be_v require_v to_o search_v the_o scripture_n john_n 5.19_o which_o be_v a_o metaphor_n take_v from_o hunter_n whether_o they_o be_v beast_n or_o man_n they_o look_v after_o the_o footstep_n of_o their_o game_n as_o by_o instinct_n the_o dog_n take_v the_o send_v here_o and_o there_o and_o follow_v the_o game_n as_o if_o it_o be_v follow_v the_o conclusion_n so_o the_o mind_n of_o a_o man_n put_v thing_n together_o and_o must_v put_v the_o thing_n together_o that_o be_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o conclude_v from_o they_o but_o beside_o this_o reason_v there_o be_v also_o reason_n which_o be_v the_o principle_n and_o notion_n of_o thing_n that_o be_v in_o we_o by_o nature_n and_o these_o be_v of_o two_o sort_n some_o be_v common_a and_o universal_o true_a true_o in_o every_o matter_n or_o science_n as_o for_o example_n that_o the_o rule_n be_v before_o and_o more_o know_v than_o that_o which_o be_v rule_v by_o it_o that_o the_o cause_n be_v more_o excellent_a than_o the_o effect_n that_o the_o mean_n so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v a_o mean_n be_v less_o excellent_a than_o the_o end_n these_o and_o divers_a other_o be_v true_a not_o only_o in_o humane_a science_n but_o in_o matter_n of_o faith_n as_o for_o example_n it_o be_v as_o true_a that_o the_o scripture_n because_o it_o be_v a_o rule_n be_v before_o man_n faith_n and_o before_o the_o church_n and_o of_o great_a authority_n and_o efficacy_n even_o as_o it_o be_v true_a that_o the_o law_n of_o man_n be_v in_o order_n of_o nature_n before_o any_o thing_n can_v be_v do_v lawful_o or_o to_o have_v a_o reward_n or_o acceptation_n and_o so_o again_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n though_o it_o be_v in_o heaven_n and_o full_a of_o glory_n yet_o notwithstanding_o be_v as_o well_o contain_v there_o and_o not_o every_o where_o as_o it_o be_v in_o one_o place_n and_o not_o in_o another_o when_o it_o be_v upon_o the_o earth_n now_o beside_o those_o general_a and_o universal_a principle_n of_o reason_n there_o be_v in_o we_o by_o nature_n particular_a principle_n or_o notion_n which_o do_v belong_v unto_o particular_a subject_n as_o unto_o the_o nature_n of_o god_n and_o unto_o righteousness_n and_o unto_o justice_n whether_o that_o righteousness_n be_v personal_a and_o moral_a or_o whether_o it_o be_v political_a or_o that_o which_o a_o man_n be_v to_o exercise_v as_o a_o judge_n towards_o other_o there_o be_v notion_n which_o be_v proper_a unto_o the_o being_n and_o kind_n of_o creature_n now_o to_o draw_v unto_o the_o thing_n that_o i_o will_v speak_v unto_o in_o divers_a case_n both_o reason_n &_o reason_n may_v argue_v a_o unwillingness_n to_o receive_v jesus_n christ_n and_o so_o a_o want_n of_o true_a faith_n the_o receive_v jesus_n christ_n may_v be_v such_o both_o into_o reason_n and_o into_o reason_v as_o argue_v a_o man_n not_o to_o believe_v upon_o christ_n unto_o the_o salvation_n of_o his_o soul_n give_v i_o but_o leave_v to_o instance_n but_o in_o some_o of_o these_o as_o brief_o as_o i_o can_v as_o i._o when_o no_o more_o be_v believe_v concern_v god_n and_o jesus_n christ_n mark_v it_o when_o we_o believe_v no_o more_o of_o god_n and_o jesus_n christ_n then_o can_v be_v deduce_v out_o of_o the_o principle_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n which_o be_v in_o we_o by_o nature_n take_v the_o principle_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n which_o
that_o man_n may_v be_v bring_v to_o believe_v we_o teach_v they_o that_o the_o nature_n of_o god_n be_v good_a and_o kind_a and_o merciful_a but_o it_o be_v only_o to_o these_o end_n and_o in_o this_o sense_n partly_o to_o show_v they_o that_o god_n be_v not_o move_v by_o any_o thing_n out_o of_o himself_o but_o not_o to_o show_v they_o that_o he_o be_v not_o god_n by_o nature_n unless_o he_o take_v their_o cause_n to_o heart_n and_o partly_o it_o be_v to_o show_v they_o how_o his_o will_n have_v set_v his_o nature_n on_o work_n for_o they_o and_o of_o his_o grace_n he_o have_v lay_v a_o law_n upon_o himself_o that_o as_o he_o be_v holy_a he_o shall_v keep_v his_o word_n and_o as_o he_o will_v be_v acknowledge_v to_o be_v powerful_a so_o he_o shall_v work_v for_o we_o and_o as_o he_o will_v have_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o justice_n so_o he_o shall_v save_v and_o therefore_o christ_n use_v these_o title_n father_n and_o holy_a father_n as_o it_o be_v in_o john_n 17.11.21_o but_o this_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n when_o man_n will_v believe_v no_o more_o than_o can_v be_v deduce_v out_o of_o those_o principle_n which_o they_o have_v of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n in_o in_o the_o extensive_a and_o large_a sense_n and_o you_o have_v this_o proof_n of_o it_o because_o when_o god_n say_v he_o will_v be_v one_o god_n and_o give_v he_o this_o promise_n he_o be_v bind_v to_o believe_v that_o god_n will_v do_v as_o much_o for_o he_o as_o he_o can_v though_o those_o word_n do_v not_o express_v it_o therefore_o say_v christ_n in_o math._n 22.29_o you_o err_v not_o know_v the_o scripture_n and_o the_o power_n of_o god_n you_o think_v the_o scripture_n contain_v no_o more_o in_o they_o than_o what_o the_o word_n do_v at_o first_o sight_n and_o in_o their_o view_n tender_a to_o you_o you_o must_v say_v he_o interpret_v the_o scripture_n according_a to_o god_n power_n and_o know_v where_o he_o have_v say_v he_o will_v be_v a_o god_n unto_o a_o man_n there_o he_o be_v use_v to_o direct_v and_o limit_v the_o sense_n of_o our_o faith_n or_o the_o hope_n of_o our_o faith_n yet_o they_o be_v not_o give_v to_o limit_v and_o bound_v the_o goodness_n of_o god_n the_o goodness_n of_o god_n and_o the_o love_n which_o he_o bear_v and_o the_o good_a that_o he_o will_v do_v be_v far_o great_a because_o it_o be_v infinite_a than_o word_n take_v from_o man_n can_v set_v forth_o there_o be_v some_o that_o go_v yet_o further_o in_o their_o entertainment_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o they_o put_v he_o into_o their_o affection_n they_o that_o hold_v that_o man_n will_n must_v have_v the_o cast_a voice_n in_o the_o matter_n of_o his_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n use_v this_o distinction_n they_o faith_o the_o will_n may_v be_v wrought_v upon_o quo_fw-la ad_fw-la affectum_fw-la but_o not_o quo_fw-la ad_fw-la effectum_fw-la god_n by_o mean_n do_v effect_v the_o will_n but_o that_o the_o will_n shall_v be_v thorough_o effect_v and_o bring_v over_o unto_o the_o thing_n that_o god_n will_v have_v it_o that_o arise_v from_o a_o man_n own_o self_n the_o distinction_n be_v good_a and_o serviceable_a to_o the_o point_n in_o hand_n though_o it_o be_v apply_v by_o they_o but_o it_o have_v this_o truth_n in_o it_o that_o a_o man_n may_v have_v his_o affection_n stir_v and_o stir_v under_o the_o mean_n with_o the_o thing_n which_o do_v belong_v unto_o eternal_a life_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o have_v his_o heart_n full_a of_o lust_n and_o his_o will_v stand_v in_o the_o same_o firmness_n stiffness_n and_o stubborness_n against_o the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o if_o he_o have_v no_o such_o kind_n of_o affection_n let_v i_o but_o instance_n in_o this_o one_o particular_a suppose_v a_o man_n to_o be_v take_v or_o delight_v with_o a_o jewel_n that_o be_v worth_a million_o but_o the_o delight_n that_o he_o have_v in_o it_o be_v but_o as_o the_o delight_n which_o belong_v unto_o a_o thing_n worth_a but_o twenty_o pound_n so_o there_o may_v be_v a_o delight_n in_o jesus_n christ_n but_o not_o suitable_a to_o the_o worth_n and_o excellency_n of_o he_o suppose_v yet_o further_o suppose_v a_o man_n shall_v make_v show_n of_o love_n
