god_n maker_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o next_o that_o jesus_n of_o nazareth_n be_v the_o messiah_n the_o promise_a king_n and_o saviour_n and_o that_o upon_o man_n believe_v these_o two_o article_n they_o be_v baptise_a and_o admit_v into_o the_o church_n i._n e._n receive_v as_o subject_n of_o christ_n kingdom_n and_o pronounce_v believer_n from_o whence_o it_o unavoidable_o follow_v that_o these_o two_o be_v the_o only_a truth_n necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian._n this_o matter_n of_o fact_n be_v so_o evident_a from_o the_o whole_a tenor_n of_o the_o four_o gospel_n and_o the_o act_n and_o press_v so_o hard_a that_o the_o unmasker_n who_o contend_v for_o a_o great_a number_n of_o other_o point_n necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian_n think_v himself_o concern_v to_o give_v some_o answer_n to_o it_o but_o in_o his_o usual_a way_n full_a of_o uncertainty_n and_o confusion_n to_o clear_v this_o matter_n he_o lay_v down_o four_o particular_n the_o first_o be_v p._n 74._o that_o the_o believe_a jesus_n to_o be_v the_o promise_a messiah_n be_v the_o first_o step_n to_o christianity_n the_o second_o p._n 76._o that_o though_o this_o one_o proposition_n viz._n of_o jesus_n the_o messiah_n be_v mention_v alone_o in_o some_o place_n yet_o there_o be_v reason_n to_o think_v and_o be_v persuade_v that_o this_o plain_o show_v that_o this_o be_v all_o that_o be_v require_v to_o be_v believe_v as_o necessary_a to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian_a may_v we_o not_o infer_v from_o the_o frequent_a and_o sole_a repetition_n of_o this_o article_n in_o several_a place_n of_o the_o evangelist_n and_o the_o act_n that_o there_o be_v no_o other_o point_n of_o faith_n of_o absolute_a necessity_n but_o all_o which_o they_o mean_v by_o the_o preach_a every_o where_o jesus_n to_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o if_o it_o be_v only_o a_o introduction_n and_o a_o make_v way_n for_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o it_o be_v plain_a it_o be_v call_v the_o gospel_n itself_o let_v the_o unmasker_n as_o a_o true_a successor_n of_o the_o apostle_n go_v and_o preach_v the_o gospel_n as_o the_o of_o the_o unbelieving_a world_n he_o make_v the_o preach_a of_o our_o saviour_n and_o his_o apostle_n to_o be_v no_o more_o but_o this_o that_o the_o great_a prophet_n promise_v to_o the_o world_n be_v come_v and_o that_o jesus_n be_v he_o but_o what_o his_o doctrine_n be_v that_o they_o be_v silent_a in_o and_o teach_v not_o one_o article_n of_o it_o but_o the_o unmasker_n misrepresents_a it_o for_o as_o to_o his_o accuse_v the_o historian_n the_o evangelist_n and_o writer_n of_o the_o act_n of_o the_o apostle_n for_o their_o shameful_a omission_n of_o the_o whole_a doctrine_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n to_o save_v his_o hypothesis_n as_o he_o do_v under_o his_o next_o head_n in_o these_o word_n that_o though_o this_o one_o proposition_n be_v mention_v alone_o in_o some_o place_n yet_o there_o be_v reason_n to_o think_v and_o be_v persuade_v that_o at_o the_o same_o time_n other_o matter_n of_o faith_n be_v propose_v i_o shall_v show_v how_o bold_a he_o make_v with_o those_o inspire_a historian_n when_o i_o come_v to_o consider_v that_o particular_a how_o ridiculous_a how_o senseless_a this_o bold_a unmasker_n and_o reformer_n of_o the_o history_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n make_v the_o preach_a of_o our_o saviour_n and_o his_o apostle_n as_o it_o stand_v record_v of_o they_o by_o infallible_a writer_n be_v visible_a but_o take_v it_o as_o in_o truth_n it_o be_v there_o we_o shall_v have_v a_o quite_o other_o view_n of_o it_o our_o saviour_n preach_v every_o where_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n and_o by_o his_o miracle_n declare_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o king_n of_o that_o kingdom_n the_o apostle_n preach_v the_o same_o and_o after_o his_o ascension_n open_o avow_v he_o to_o be_v the_o prince_n and_o saviour_n promise_v but_o preach_v not_o this_o as_o a_o bare_a speculative_a article_n of_o simple_a belief_n but_o that_o man_n may_v receive_v he_o for_o their_o king_n and_o become_v his_o subject_n when_o they_o tell_v the_o world_n that_o he_o be_v the_o christ_n it_o be_v not_o as_o the_o unmasker_n will_v have_v it_o believe_v this_o man_n to_o be_v a_o prophet_n and_o then_o he_o will_v teach_v you_o his_o new_a religion_n which_o when_o you_o have_v receive_v and_o embrace_v all_o and_o every_o article_n thereof_o which_o be_v a_o great_a number_n you_o will_v then_o be_v christian_n if_o you_o be_v not_o ignorant_a or_o incredulous_a of_o any_o of_o they_o but_o it_o be_v believe_v this_o man_n to_o be_v your_o king_n send_v from_o god_n take_v he_o for_o such_o with_o a_o resolution_n to_o observe_v the_o law_n he_o the_o gospel_n but_o when_o receive_v with_o the_o obedience_n of_o faith_n be_v the_o very_a receive_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o have_v all_o that_o be_v requisite_a to_o make_v man_n christian_n and_o without_o it_o be_v so_o understand_v no_o body_n can_v clear_v the_o preach_v of_o our_o saviour_n and_o his_o apostle_n from_o that_o incredible_a impersection_n or_o their_o historian_n from_o that_o unpardonable_a negligence_n and_o not_o do_v either_o what_o they_o ought_v or_o what_o they_o undertake_v which_o our_o unmasker_n have_v so_o impious_o charge_v upon_o they_o as_o will_v appear_v yet_o plain_o in_o what_o i_o have_v to_o say_v to_o the_o vnmasker_n next_o particular_a for_o as_o to_o the_o remainder_n of_o this_o paragraph_n it_o contain_v nothing_o but_o his_o thing_n which_o be_v not_o in_o direct_a term_n relate_v answ._n the_o vnmasker_n here_o keep_v to_o his_o usual_a custom_n of_o speak_v in_o doubtful_a term_n he_o say_v that_o where_o this_o one_o article_n that_o jesus_n be_v the_o messiah_n be_v alone_o record_v in_o the_o preach_a of_o our_o saviour_n and_o his_o apostle_n we_o have_v reason_n to_o be_v persuade_v that_o at_o the_o same_o time_n other_o matter_n of_o faith_n be_v propose_v if_o this_o be_v to_o his_o purpose_n by_o matter_n of_o faith_n must_v be_v mean_v fundamental_a article_n of_o faith_n absolute_o necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v by_o every_o man_n to_o make_v he_o a_o christian._n that_o such_o matter_n of_o faith_n be_v omit_v in_o the_o history_n of_o the_o preach_a of_o our_o saviour_n and_o his_o apostle_n by_o the_o sacred_a historian_n this_o he_o say_v we_o have_v reason_n to_o be_v persuade_v of_o answ._n they_o need_v be_v good_a reason_n to_o persuade_v a_o rational_a man_n that_o the_o evangelist_n in_o their_o history_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o his_o
not_o then_o discover_v or_o at_o least_o not_o full_o we_o must_v here_o excuse_v the_o doubtfulness_n of_o his_o talk_a concern_v the_o discovery_n of_o his_o other_o necessary_a article_n for_o how_o can_v he_o say_v they_o be_v discover_v or_o not_o discover_v clear_o or_o obscure_o full_o or_o not_o full_o when_o he_o do_v not_o yet_o know_v they_o all_o nor_o can_v tell_v we_o what_o those_o necessary_a article_n be_v if_o he_o do_v know_v they_o let_v he_o give_v we_o a_o list_n of_o they_o and_o then_o we_o shall_v see_v easy_o whether_o they_o be_v at_o all_o publish_v or_o discover_v in_o our_o saviour_n time_n if_o there_o be_v some_o of_o they_o that_o be_v not_o at_o all_o discover_v in_o our_o saviour_n time_n let_v he_o speak_v it_o out_o and_o leave_v shift_a and_o if_o some_o of_o those_o that_o be_v not_o necessary_a for_o our_o saviour_n time_n but_o for_o the_o succeed_a one_o only_o be_v yet_o discover_v in_o our_o saviour_n time_n why_o be_v they_o not_o necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v in_o that_o time_n but_o the_o truth_n be_v he_o know_v not_o what_o these_o doctrine_n necessary_a for_o succeed_v time_n be_v and_o therefore_o can_v say_v nothing_o positive_a about_o their_o discovery_n and_o for_o those_o that_o he_o have_v set_v down_o as_o soon_o as_o he_o shall_v name_v any_o one_o of_o they_o to_o be_v of_o the_o number_n of_o those_o not_o necessary_a for_o our_o saviour_n time_n but_o necessary_a for_o the_o succeed_v one_o it_o will_v present_o appear_v either_o that_o it_o be_v discover_v in_o our_o saviour_n time_n and_o than_o it_o be_v as_o necessary_a for_o his_o time_n as_o the_o succeed_v or_o else_o that_o it_o be_v not_o discover_v in_o his_o time_n nor_o to_o several_a convert_v after_o his_o time_n before_o they_o be_v make_v christian_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o more_o necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian_a in_o the_o succeed_v than_o it_o be_v in_o our_o saviour_n time_n however_o general_a position_n and_o distinction_n without_o a_o foundation_n serve_v for_o show_v and_o to_o beguile_v unwary_a and_o inattentive_a reader_n 2_o o._n have_v thus_o mind_v he_o that_o the_o question_n be_v about_o article_n of_o faith_n necessary_a to_o be_v explicit_o and_o distinct_o believe_v to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian_a i_o then_o in_o the_o next_o place_n demand_v of_o he_o to_o tell_v i_o thirty-nine_o whether_o or_o no_o all_o the_o article_n necessary_a now_o to_o be_v distinct_o and_o explicit_o believe_v to_o make_v any_o man_n a_o christian_n be_v distinct_o and_o explicit_o publish_v or_o discover_v in_o our_o saviour_n time_n and_o then_o i_o shall_v desire_v to_o know_v of_o he_o xl._o a_o reason_n why_o they_o be_v not_o those_o that_o he_o instance_n in_o of_o christ_n death_n and_o resurrection_n will_v not_o help_v he_o one_o jot_n for_o they_o be_v not_o new_a doctrine_n reveal_v new_a mystery_n discover_v but_o matter_n of_o fact_n which_o happen_v to_o our_o saviour_n in_o their_o due_a time_n to_o complete_a in_o he_o the_o character_n and_o prediction_n of_o the_o messiah_n and_o demonstrate_v he_o to_o be_v the_o deliverer_n promise_v these_o be_v record_v of_o he_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a writ_n but_o be_v no_o more_o necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian_n than_o any_o other_o part_n of_o divine_a revelation_n but_o as_o far_o as_o they_o have_v a_o immediate_a connexion_n with_o his_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o can_v be_v deny_v without_o deny_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o therefore_o this_o article_n of_o his_o resurrection_n which_o suppose_v his_o death_n and_o such_o other_o proposition_n as_o be_v convertible_a with_o his_o be_v the_o messiah_n be_v as_o they_o very_o well_o may_v be_v put_v for_o his_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o as_o i_o have_v show_v propose_v to_o be_v believe_v in_o the_o place_n of_o it_o
