and_o to_o god_n will_v reveal_v and_o his_o commandment_n give_v to_o he_o be_v true_a holiness_n and_o be_v so_o call_v in_o scripture_n second_o they_o read_v that_o adam_n be_v make_v by_o god_n upright_o and_o have_v that_o purity_n &_o uprightness_n which_o make_v he_o conformable_a to_o god_n law_n and_o reveal_v will_n and_o this_o be_v god_n image_n in_o he_o &_o hereupon_o they_o conclude_v that_o adam_n be_v create_v in_o true_a holiness_n answer_n to_o this_o i_o have_v heretofore_o upon_o another_o textful_o answer_v by_o lay_v down_o a_o plain_a distinction_n gather_v from_o god_n word_n and_o daily_a experience_n and_o by_o apply_v it_o to_o this_o purpose_n for_o i_o have_v distinguish_v purity_n and_o uprightness_n by_o which_o man_n be_v conformable_a to_o the_o reveal_v will_n and_o law_n of_o god_n into_o two_o sort_n first_o there_o be_v a_o create_v natural_a purity_n &_o uprightness_n found_v upon_o natural_a principle_n which_o god_n give_v to_o man_n in_o his_o fiâ—st_a creation_n by_o he_o which_o be_v conformable_a to_o god_n reveal_v will_n to_o the_o law_n of_o his_o nature_n in_o the_o state_n of_o innocency_n but_o this_o uprightness_n have_v no_o other_o root_n or_o foundation_n but_o man_n mutable_a nature_n and_o frame_n be_v also_o mutable_a and_o be_v quick_o deface_v and_o corrupt_v by_o the_o subtlety_n of_o the_o tempter_n and_o man_n fall_n second_o there_o be_v a_o renew_a or_o new_a create_a uprightness_n and_o purity_n of_o man_n in_o his_o heart_n and_o soul_n life_n and_o conversation_n which_o be_v find_v only_o in_o god_n elect_v &_o faithful_a regenerate_a child_n by_o which_o they_o be_v here_o in_o some_o measure_n make_v conformable_a to_o the_o law_n and_o will_n of_o god_n this_o although_o it_o be_v much_o eclipse_v and_o obscure_v by_o the_o remainder_n of_o natural_a corruption_n which_o still_o dwell_v in_o god_n saint_n in_o this_o frail_a life_n and_o mortal_a body_n and_o do_v not_o shine_v forth_o in_o the_o true_a brightness_n of_o it_o yet_o it_o proceed_v from_o a_o eternal_a fountain_n the_o pure_a water_n whereof_o spring_n up_o unto_o life_n eternal_a and_o can_v be_v defile_v but_o remain_v pure_a though_o they_o pass_v through_o the_o dead_a sea_n of_o sodom_n the_o filthy_a lake_n of_o man_n natural_a corruption_n which_o dwell_v still_o in_o this_o body_n of_o death_n this_o pure_a fountain_n be_v the_o spirit_n of_o regeneration_n which_o god_n shed_v through_o christ_n on_o the_o elect_a as_o our_o saviour_n himself_o teach_v joh._n 14.4_o &_o 8.38.39_o and_o because_o this_o spirit_n even_o the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o daily_o renew_v they_o be_v shed_v on_o they_o in_o there_o new_a birth_n tit._n 3.5.6_o do_v dwell_v in_o they_o as_o the_o mortal_a seed_n of_o god_n &_o abide_v with_o they_o for_o ever_o joh._n 14_o 16._o and_o be_v strong_a than_o the_o spirit_n of_o malice_n the_o devil_n which_o overthrow_v our_o first_o parent_n and_o ever_o continualy_a in_o their_o mind_n and_o memory_n for_o this_o will_n at_o one_o blow_n raze_v to_o the_o very_a foundation_n all_o pelagian_n popish_a armian_n hoeresy_n concern_v the_o power_n of_o man_n freâ—_n will_v the_o efficacy_n and_o merit_n of_o man_n natural_a work_n do_v before_o regeneration_n and_o the_o fall_v away_o of_o man_n regenerate_v and_o justify_v from_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o from_o justify_v faith_n and_o true_a holiness_n also_o concern_v universal_a grace_n give_v to_o all_o man_n by_o which_o they_o have_v it_o in_o their_o own_o power_n to_o be_v save_v and_o if_o it_o will_v please_v the_o lord_n to_o open_v the_o heart_n of_o our_o people_n right_o conceive_v this_o difference_n between_o the_o image_n of_o the_o first_o and_o second_o adam_n and_o between_o the_o create_a natural_a uprightness_n of_o adam_n and_o the_o spiritual_a uprightness_n and_o infuse_a holiness_n wherein_o the_o second_o adam_n be_v conceive_v and_o frame_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n this_o will_v ravish_v their_o heart_n and_o fill_v they_o with_o admiration_n of_o the_o singular_a love_n of_o god_n to_o his_o elect_a in_o christ_n and_o of_o the_o singular_a
