they_o have_v receive_v say_v the_o text_n for_o in_o some_o case_n a_o man_n may_v divide_v but_o he_o must_v have_v some_o warrantable_a cause_n but_o the_o end_n of_o this_o their_o division_n be_v not_o to_o serve_v christ_n jesus_n but_o their_o own_o belly_n for_o so_o say_v the_o text_n and_o this_o must_v be_v do_v in_o or_o by_o some_o fair_a colourable_a demeanour_n viz._n good_a word_n and_o fair_a speech_n say_v the_o text_n but_o all_o this_o be_v but_o to_o deceive_v say_v the_o apostle_n and_o because_o they_o can_v not_o delude_v the_o wise_a therefore_o they_o will_v tamper_v with_o the_o ignorant_a for_o so_o say_v the_o text_n they_o deceive_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o simple_a from_o hence_o i_o note_v also_o that_o these_o be_v false_a teacher_n that_o do_v make_v this_o division_n for_o their_o own_o private_a gain_n viz._n to_o suck_v from_o the_o poor_a silly_a people_n in_o way_n of_o pretence_n to_o teach_v they_o the_o truth_n for_o they_o do_v it_o to_o serve_v their_o belly_n you_o shall_v see_v more_o of_o they_o in_o some_o of_o the_o next_o scripture_n follow_v the_o next_o scripture_n quote_v be_v 1_o cor_n 1._o 10._o now_o i_o beseech_v you_o brethren_n by_o the_o name_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o you_o all_o speak_v the_o same_o thing_n and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o division_n among_o you_o but_o that_o you_o be_v perfect_o join_v together_o in_o the_o same_o mind_n and_o in_o the_o same_o judgement_n in_o this_o scripture_n the_o apostle_n persuade_v these_o corinthian_n from_o division_n among_o the_o common_a hearer_n there_o chief_o at_o least_o and_o show_v some_o cause_n of_o it_o in_o they_o and_o that_o be_v for_o want_v of_o a_o mind_n and_o judgement_n well_o inform_v and_o therefore_o they_o do_v much_o contend_v with_o each_o other_o as_o in_o the_o 11_o verse_n you_o may_v see_v and_o therefore_o they_o be_v partial_a in_o respect_v and_o affect_v of_o their_o teacher_n without_o just_a cause_n for_o those_o preacher_n be_v so_o know_v that_o they_o do_v not_o differ_v in_o their_o judgement_n in_o those_o thing_n they_o teach_v but_o this_o be_v their_o carnality_n in_o affect_v the_o preacher_n more_o for_o his_o wisdom_n in_o word_n and_o phrase_n etc._n etc._n rather_o than_o for_o the_o truth_n of_o matter_n as_o be_v very_o likely_a and_o clear_a in_o the_o 17_o verse_n for_o there_o he_o say_v he_o do_v not_o preach_v the_o gospel_n with_o wisdom_n of_o word_n that_o be_v chief_o lest_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n shall_v be_v make_v of_o none_o effect_n but_o by_o what_o have_v be_v observe_v here_o chief_o for_o our_o purpose_n be_v that_o there_o ought_v to_o have_v be_v no_o division_n among_o they_o see_v there_o be_v no_o cause_n and_o in_o chap._n 3._o ver._n 3._o he_o do_v also_o forbid_v division_n and_o tell_v they_o the_o reason_n of_o it_o viz._n they_o be_v carnal_a and_o look_v upon_o their_o teacher_n more_o than_o to_o god_n word_n and_o work_n by_o the_o ministry_n of_o their_o preacher_n as_o be_v to_o be_v see_v in_o the_o five_o verse_n and_o true_o i_o must_v note_v one_o thing_n more_o from_o the_o word_n of_o the_o three_o verse_n and_o that_o be_v this_o the_o reason_n why_o man_n have_v not_o their_o judgement_n better_o inform_v be_v because_o they_o do_v not_o renounce_v their_o carnal_a corruption_n for_o the_o more_o a_o man_n desiâ—eth_v to_o renounce_v his_o corruption_n the_o better_a understanding_n he_o shall_v have_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n you_o be_v carnal_a say_v he_o but_o i_o pass_v pre-admonish_v they_o to_o beware_v that_o they_o be_v not_o draw_v away_o from_o their_o public_a assembly_n in_o their_o godly_a exercise_n by_o the_o example_n or_o entice_n of_o some_o that_o have_v already_o forsake_v they_o by_o the_o apostle_n expression_n in_o this_o verse_n it_o seem_v those_o that_o do_v forsake_v do_v not_o show_v forth_o any_o notorious_a evil_a aim_n or_o end_n for_o the_o present_a wherefore_o they_o do_v forsake_v the_o assemble_n of_o themselves_o together_o with_o those_o that_o the_o apostle_n here_o forewarn_v therefore_o those_o may_v have_v some_o close_a colourable_a pretence_n which_o as_o yet_o do_v not_o break_v out_o but_o some_o evil_a aim_n they_o have_v for_o the_o apostle_n note_v they_o and_o forewarn_v the_o rest_n selah_n sure_o of_o god_n division_n be_v nought_o for_o the_o apostle_n endeavour_v the_o contrary_a what_o ever_o the_o intent_n be_v of_o those_o that_o forsake_v and_o divide_v without_o some_o apparent_a and_o weighty_a cause_n illustration_n the_o next_o place_n be_v 1_o cor._n 12._o 24_o 25_o 26._o i_o will_v name_v but_o part_n of_o the_o first_o verse_n and_o then_o all_o the_o rest_n these_o be_v the_o word_n god_n have_v temper_v the_o body_n together_o have_v give_v more_o abundant_a honour_n to_o that_o part_n which_o lack_v that_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o schism_n in_o the_o body_n but_o that_o the_o member_n shall_v have_v the_o same_o care_n one_o of_o another_o and_o whether_o one_o member_n suffer_v all_o the_o member_n suffer_v with_o it_o or_o one_o member_n be_v honour_v all_o the_o member_n rejoice_v with_o it_o the_o apostle_n in_o these_o verse_n excellent_o allude_v to_o the_o body_n of_o a_o man_n to_o show_v the_o constitution_n or_o frame_n of_o christ_n mystical_a body_n viz._n his_o church_n on_o earth_n that_o as_o the_o body_n of_o man_n consist_v of_o divers_a member_n so_o do_v the_o church_n of_o christ_n and_o have_v their_o several_a office_n of_o care_n and_o good_a performance_n one_o unto_o the_o other_o and_o if_o any_o member_n suffer_v the_o residue_n be_v sensible_a of_o its_o want_n of_o prosperity_n and_o if_o it_o be_v well_o and_o healthful_a the_o residue_n of_o the_o member_n of_o the_o body_n rejoice_v with_o it_o because_o the_o honour_n of_o one_o member_n be_v the_o honour_n of_o the_o whole_a as_o a_o gold-ring_n on_o the_o finger_n be_v esteem_v a_o ornament_n to_o the_o whole_a body_n etc._n etc._n thus_o it_o be_v with_o the_o mystical_a body_n of_o christ_n say_v the_o apostle_n in_fw-la ver._n 27_o 28._o they_o be_v to_o take_v care_n one_o of_o another_o as_o the_o corporal_a body_n of_o man_n the_o which_o it_o can_v do_v if_o it_o be_v divide_v member_n from_o member_n therefore_o say_v the_o apostle_n in_fw-la ver._n 24._o god_n have_v temper_v the_o body_n together_o etc._n etc._n and_o in_fw-la ver._n 25._o he_o tell_v we_o that_o the_o end_n of_o god_n join_v the_o member_n together_o thus_o be_v that_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o schism_n in_o the_o body_n but_o that_o the_o member_n shall_v have_v the_o same_o care_n one_o of_o another_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o the_o mystical_a body_n of_o christ_n if_o the_o member_n be_v divide_v than_o be_v the_o body_n spiritual_a weaken_v and_o in_o great_a imperfection_n and_o danger_n especial_o if_o many_o member_n be_v either_o lame_a or_o quite_o divide_v from_o it_o on_o thus_o you_o see_v by_o all_o these_o text_n of_o holy_a scripture_n that_o schism_n division_n and_o forsake_n the_o assembly_n of_o god_n people_n in_o the_o only_a way_n of_o religious_a exercise_n be_v utter_o forbid_v and_o the_o
reason_n in_o some_o particular_n also_o render_v by_o the_o apostle_n in_o the_o word_n of_o this_o 12_o chap._n of_o 1_o cor._n 24_o 25_o and_o 26_o verse_n now_o next_o i_o be_o to_o perform_v three_o thing_n which_o i_o have_v promise_v you_o before_o i_o come_v to_o the_o goliath_n and_o his_o young_a brethren_n and_o of_o these_o three_o thing_n i_o will_v be_v brief_a affection_n for_o i_o long_o until_o i_o come_v to_o the_o main_a one_o the_o first_o be_v to_o show_v by_o reason_n that_o division_n in_o godly_a exercise_n of_o our_o religion_n do_v occasion_n great_a inconvenience_n to_o the_o church_n or_o child_n of_o god_n first_o it_o estrange_v and_o weaken_v their_o affection_n one_o towards_o the_o other_o this_o we_o have_v experience_n of_o enough_o already_o on_o both_o side_n among_o we_o in_o these_o day_n i_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o use_v many_o word_n to_o cause_v you_o to_o conclude_v with_o i_o this_o truth_n for_o by_o our_o division_n in_o some_o point_n of_o doctrine_n and_o much_o more_o in_o the_o government_n of_o the_o church_n and_o the_o several_a way_n that_o several_a person_n and_o congregation_n steer_v the_o church_n be_v divide_v or_o weaken_v in_o their_o affection_n other_o second_o by_o these_o division_n there_o be_v produce_v a_o evil_a opinion_n one_o of_o another_o whereupon_o one_o be_v jealous_a of_o the_o other_o lest_o the_o one_o do_v circumvent_v the_o other_o in_o his_o way_n which_o he_o have_v resolve_v to_o walk_v and_o rest_n in_o for_o all_o man_n in_o every_o way_n in_o religion_n account_v his_o one_o way_n best_o and_o therefore_o think_v he_o not_o so_o good_a as_o himself_o that_o differ_v from_o his_o way_n whereupon_o upon_o small_a occasion_n they_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o flout_v and_o scoff_n at_o each_o other_o and_o to_o fall_v at_o length_n to_o blow_n perhaps_o too_o war_n three_o when_o our_o affection_n be_v so_o weak_a towards_o each_o other_o then_o civil_a war_n be_v apt_a to_o be_v among_o we_o for_o every_o one_o will_v be_v jealous_a lest_o the_o other_o will_v rob_v he_o of_o or_o divert_v he_o from_o that_o which_o he_o account_v so_o precious_a in_o his_o own_o way_n of_o religion_n etc._n four_o when_o we_o be_v so_o much_o divide_v than_o we_o be_v liable_a to_o be_v a_o prey_n to_o a_o common_a enemy_n five_o by_o division_n in_o these_o kind_n we_o be_v liable_a to_o have_v teacher_n of_o divers_a error_n to_o a_o far_a confusion_n in_o religion_n etc._n for_o the_o several_a preacher_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o be_v preacher_n to_o so_o many_o several_a sort_n of_o sect_n will_v be_v as_o strange_a to_o each_o other_o themselves_o so_o that_o they_o will_v not_o meet_v to_o confer_v together_o about_o religion_n or_o at_o least_o but_o few_o together_o because_o there_o be_v but_o few_o of_o many_o sect_n that_o be_v of_o good_a ability_n in_o knowledge_n as_o preacher_n and_o so_o they_o will_v be_v the_o more_o unable_a to_o know_v and_o preach_v the_o truth_n to_o the_o people_n etc._n six_o there_o will_v be_v little_a power_n in_o any_o to_o punish_v or_o restrain_v those_o that_o be_v to_o be_v restrain_v or_o punish_v because_o the_o state_n will_v be_v so_o divide_v both_o in_o opinion_n and_o several_a company_n in_o sum_n we_o shall_v be_v a_o absolute_a babel_n the_o next_o in_o order_n which_o i_o promise_v you_o be_v the_o benefit_n or_o happiness_n which_o we_o may_v attain_v unto_o by_o a_o godly_a unity_n in_o affection_n i_o hope_v much_o need_v not_o to_o be_v say_v of_o this_o for_o all_o people_n have_v experience_n of_o it_o unless_o fool_n and_o little_a infant_n etc._n etc._n but_o yet_o something_o of_o it_o i_o will_v note_v in_o particular_a unity_n first_o i_o will_v in_o sum_n conclude_v in_o this_o truth_n that_o the_o deprivation_n of_o inconvenience_n be_v a_o enjoy_n of_o happiness_n for_o if_o that_o which_o be_v evil_a be_v take_v away_o there_o remain_v that_o which_o be_v good_a and_o so_o say_v solomon_n in_o these_o word_n take_v away_o the_o dross_n from_o the_o silver_n and_o there_o remain_v a_o vessel_n for_o the_o refiner_n we_o shall_v then_o be_v join_v in_o our_o affection_n to_o love_v each_o other_o the_o which_o will_v have_v join_v to_o it_o a_o good_a opinion_n of_o each_o other_o and_o this_o be_v in_o holy_a scripture_n call_v the_o staff_n of_o beauty_n neither_o shall_v we_o be_v so_o jealous_a of_o each_o other_o with_o a_o evil_a suspicion_n nor_o fall_v to_o blow_n nor_o jar_n nor_o civil_a war_n for_o than_o we_o shall_v be_v join_v together_o in_o one_o and_o be_v a_o staff_n of_o band_n and_o be_v so_o we_o shall_v the_o less_o fear_v a_o common_a enemy_n then_o shall_v our_o preacher_n meet_v advise_v and_o confer_v together_o for_o to_o be_v the_o better_a able_a to_o teach_v we_o the_o truth_n yea_o they_o and_o we_o shall_v be_v so_o amiable_a to_o each_o other_o as_o that_o they_o will_v be_v encourage_v to_o watch_v over_o we_o with_o joy_n and_o not_o with_o grief_n the_o which_o will_v be_v not_o unprofitable_a but_o profitable_a unto_o we_o then_o we_o may_v retain_v a_o power_n to_o restrain_v error_n heresy_n and_o stubbornness_n in_o evil_a in_o sum_n i_o say_v we_o shall_v not_o be_v a_o babel_n of_o confusion_n but_o as_o a_o flock_n of_o dove_n or_o sheep_n by_o this_o bless_a unity_n in_o godliness_n here_o in_o this_o world_n and_o attain_v everlasting_a bliss_n after_o this_o life_n end_v in_o heaven_n with_o god_n and_o his_o holy_a angel_n one_o point_n more_o i_o have_v to_o wade_v in_o before_o i_o come_v to_o the_o hydra_n and_o his_o young_a one_o and_o that_o be_v this_o viz._n â—rdinances_n that_o a_o godly_a unity_n in_o affection_n or_o such_o like_a thing_n this_o scripture_n be_v heb._n 10._o 24_o 25._o these_o be_v the_o word_n let_v we_o consider_v one_o another_o to_o provoke_v unto_o love_n and_o good_a work_n not_o forsake_v the_o assemble_n of_o ourselves_o together_o as_o the_o manner_n of_o some_o be_v but_o exhort_v one_o another_o etc._n etc._n let_v we_o say_v he_o we_o who_o be_v not_o disunite_v in_o our_o way_n of_o our_o godly_a exercise_n of_o religion_n provoke_v one_o another_o to_o love_n and_o good_a work_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v we_o who_o be_v not_o divide_v from_o each_o other_o in_o our_o way_n of_o godly_a exercise_n be_v not_o divide_v in_o our_o assembly_n whereby_o we_o may_v be_v helpful_a one_o to_o each_o other_o in_o provoke_v each_o other_o to_o love_v that_o be_v unity_n in_o affection_n and_o good_a work_n and_o that_o this_o be_v the_o true_a genuall_a sense_n of_o the_o verse_n it_o will_v appear_v in_o the_o next_o verse_n where_o he_o dehort_v they_o from_o forsake_v the_o assemble_n of_o themselves_o together_o as_o the_o manner_n of_o some_o than_o be_v in_o which_o word_n you_o may_v see_v that_o some_o have_v forsake_v the_o uniformity_n in_o those_o godly_a exercise_n which_o these_o that_o be_v here_o exhort_v do_v perform_v have_v forsake_v their_o assembly_n also_o and_o therefore_o have_v lose_v this_o good_a opportunity_n which_o these_o in_o ver._n 24._o have_v that_o be_v to_o say_v to_o provoke_v unto_o love_n and_o to_o good_a work_n you_o may_v know_v by_o experience_n that_o what_o one_o man_n dislike_v in_o another_o do_v cause_n so_o much_o the_o less_o love_n or_o like_n in_o he_o towards_o that_o man_n in_o who_o he_o imagine_v something_o worthy_a of_o his_o dislike_n for_o the_o true_a proverb_n be_v like_o love_v its_o like_o and_o the_o more_o they_o fail_v in_o their_o likeness_n the_o less_o they_o love_v and_o this_o hold_v in_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v esteem_v good_a and_o the_o more_o good_a the_o matter_n or_o thing_n be_v account_v by_o one_o party_n and_o dislike_v by_o the_o other_o the_o more_o will_v their_o affection_n of_o love_n be_v abate_v especial_o in_o mankind_n and_o much_o more_o
appear_v that_o many_o in_o the_o present_a state_n of_o grace_n have_v be_v charge_v and_o reprove_v for_o many_o sin_n and_o corruption_n at_o that_o time_n when_o they_o be_v in_o the_o faith_n and_o present_a state_n of_o salvation_n yet_o the_o apostle_n do_v not_o make_v a_o separation_n nor_o division_n nor_o schism_n i_o do_v not_o note_v these_o fault_n and_o defect_n of_o sanctification_n which_o betoken_v weakness_n in_o the_o faith_n to_o strengthen_v any_o in_o sin_n far_o be_v it_o from_o i_o to_o encourage_v or_o comfort_v any_o in_o their_o persist_n in_o vice_n but_o i_o will_v not_o have_v any_o judge_n of_o man_n too_o rash_o and_o uncharitable_o contrary_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o god_n word_n lest_o we_o condemn_v some_o to_o be_v in_o the_o way_n of_o damnation_n when_o they_o be_v in_o the_o present_a state_n of_o salvation_n and_o from_o this_o mistake_n arise_v a_o spirit_n of_o uncharitable_a and_o unwarrantable_a sepaâ—ation_n and_o dangerous_a separation_n from_o all_o the_o ordinance_n and_o mean_n of_o salvation_n or_o at_o the_o least_o the_o most_o part_n of_o they_o by_o this_o their_o blind_a judge_n without_o the_o true_a rule_n how_o shall_v such_o weak_a christian_n beset_v with_o corruption_n be_v help_v and_o strengthen_v against_o their_o sin_n and_o ignorance_n if_o the_o strong_a christian_n separate_v from_o they_o we_o that_o be_v strong_a say_v the_o apostle_n ought_v to_o bear_v the_o infirmity_n of_o the_o weak_a viz._n instruct_v they_o exhort_v they_o reprove_v they_o and_o allure_v they_o by_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n by_o the_o danger_n of_o damnation_n in_o hell_n and_o salvation_n in_o heaven_n now_o consider_v these_o thing_n you_o that_o be_v so_o forward_o to_o censure_v man_n so_o much_o uncharitable_o as_o to_o separate_v yourselves_o from_o man_n that_o be_v not_o worse_o in_o their_o conversation_n then_o these_o man_n aforesaid_a be_v nay_o you_o separate_v from_o some_o that_o be_v not_o so_o scandalous_a as_o many_o of_o these_o now_o quote_v be_v and_o you_o do_v debar_v these_o and_o such_o like_a man_n from_o receive_v the_o holy_a sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n which_o be_v due_a to_o all_o christian_n and_o such_o as_o you_o be_v to_o account_v so_o â—till_o they_o be_v not_o worse_o than_o these_o aforesaid_a in_o their_o outward_a demeanour_n nay_o we_o be_v to_o hope_v better_a of_o some_o that_o be_v worse_o than_o these_o before_o quote_v see_v for_o this_o also_o in_o 2_o thess._n 3._o 14._o these_o be_v the_o word_n if_o any_o man_n obey_v not_o our_o epistle_n note_v that_o man_n and_o have_v no_o company_n with_o he_o that_o he_o may_v be_v ashamed_a yet_o count_v he_o not_o as_o a_o enemy_n but_o admonish_v he_o as_o a_o brother_n as_o in_o v._n 25_o and_o in_o the_o 6._o such_o a_o person_n be_v name_v to_o they_o also_o and_o in_o 1_o thess._n 5._o 14._o be_v these_o word_n warn_v the_o unruly_a by_o all_o these_o place_n it_o do_v appear_v that_o these_o be_v not_o to_o be_v separate_v from_o the_o church_n for_o still_o they_o be_v to_o admonish_v they_o as_o brethren_n which_o they_o be_v not_o to_o do_v if_o they_o be_v utter_o cast_v out_o or_o reject_v only_o they_o be_v to_o estrange_v themselves_o from_o they_o that_o be_v to_o say_v not_o to_o have_v so_o much_o familiarity_n as_o before_o or_o as_o with_o those_o that_o be_v not_o so_o disorderly_a or_o unruly_a but_o yet_o admonish_v he_o as_o a_o brother_n still_o and_o thus_o much_o shall_v suffice_v for_o this_o point_n now_o thus_o some_o may_v demand_v how_o if_o the_o preacher_n have_v knowledge_n in_o a_o competent_a degree_n and_o too_o little_a honesty_n he_o will_v do_v much_o hurt_v that_o way_n by_o his_o ill-example_n for_o man_n live_v more_o by_o example_n then_o by_o precept_n then_o for_o the_o more_o part_n if_o they_o be_v very_o ignorant_a especial_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v thus_o brief_o be_v it_o not_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o we_o we_o shall_v have_v neither_o knowledge_n nor_o honesty_n neither_o the_o preacher_n nor_o hearer_n therefore_o we_o be_v to_o look_v to_o god_n in_o this_o
