a_o word_n or_o two_o to_o explain_v who_o we_o mean_v by_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n second_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o by_o way_n of_o premise_v that_o the_o saint_n or_o sheep_n of_o christ_n may_v fall_v yea_o fall_v from_o grace_n and_o also_o how_o far_o they_o may_v fall_v and_o then_o proceed_v to_o demonstrate_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o proposition_n and_o prove_v that_o they_o can_v fall_v final_o so_o as_o eternal_o to_o perish_v 1._o those_o that_o i_o call_v the_o saint_n of_o god_n or_o sheep_n of_o christ_n be_v those_o who_o be_v elect_v or_o choose_v in_o jesus_n christ_n though_o it_o 20._o may_v be_v partly_o through_o ignorance_n of_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o grape_n yet_o no_o doubt_n by_o the_o pleasantness_n of_o the_o liquor_n and_o corruption_n and_o infirmity_n of_o the_o flesh_n he_o be_v overcome_v lot_z be_v a_o saint_n of_o god_n a_o righteous_a and_o just_a man_n yet_o he_o fall_v worse_o not_o only_o by_o drunkenness_n but_o also_o by_o commit_v incest_n with_o his_o two_o daughter_n what_o be_v the_o best_a of_o man_n when_o god_n leave_v they_o to_o themselves_o jacob_n also_o no_o doubt_n great_o sin_v and_o fall_v when_o he_o tell_v his_o father_n he_o be_v esau_n his_o first-born_a how_o lamentable_o do_v david_n sin_n and_o fall_v who_o be_v a_o man_n after_o god_n own_o heart_n save_v in_o the_o what_o our_o bless_a saviour_n say_v that_o which_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o flesh_n be_v flesh_n and_o that_o which_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o spirit_n be_v 6._o spirit_n that_o which_o be_v bear_v of_o corrupt_a nature_n or_o be_v the_o product_n of_o the_o flesh_n be_v flesh_n or_o of_o the_o same_o nature_n of_o that_o which_o do_v beget_v it_o as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o adam_n he_o beget_v a_o son_n in_o his_o own_o likeness_n 3._o that_o be_v a_o deprave_a sinful_a and_o mortal_a child_n the_o flesh_n bring_v forth_o effect_n proportionable_a to_o the_o cause_n it_o be_v thus_o in_o the_o first_o birth_n but_o if_o by_o flesh_n you_o will_v have_v our_o saviour_n intend_v the_o product_n of_o man_n natural_a ability_n or_o the_o effect_n of_o the_o high_a improvement_n of_o his_o natural_a light_n understanding_n will_n etc._n etc._n why_o then_o it_o follow_v still_o that_o a_o man_n pure_o natural_a can_v produce_v nothing_o but_o natural_a operation_n for_o nothing_o in_o operation_n exceed_v the_o virtue_n or_o excellency_n of_o that_o cause_n which_o influence_v it_o so_o that_o no_o man_n can_v by_o his_o ability_n however_o improve_v produce_v any_o divine_a or_o and_o say_v our_o saviour_n what_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o spirit_n be_v spirit_n or_o be_v of_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o the_o holy_a spirit_n that_o be_v spiritual_a holy_a immortal_a since_o every_o creature_n beget_v its_o own_o nature_n quality_n and_o image_n such_o as_o be_v the_o cause_n such_o be_v the_o effect_n thus_o it_o be_v in_o generation_n and_o thus_o it_o be_v in_o regeneration_n it_o must_v be_v from_o a_o divine_a from_o a_o spiritual_a cause_n and_o not_o a_o natural_a that_o the_o image_n of_o god_n be_v form_v in_o the_o soul_n the_o flesh_n can_v bring_v forth_o a_o heavenly_a babe_n can_v corruption_n produce_v or_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o regeneration_n can_v a_o worm_n or_o a_o ant_n bring_v forth_o a_o man_n soon_o than_o flesh_n or_o can_v any_o new_a creature_n be_v beget_v by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n it_o must_v partake_v of_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o spirit_n christ_n say_v it_o be_v spirit_n it_o be_v spiritual_a immortal_a or_o incorruptible_a hence_o the_o apostle_n peter_n say_v believer_n partake_v of_o the_o divine_a nature_n whereby_o be_v give_v unto_o we_o exceed_v great_a 4._o and_o precious_a promise_n that_o by_o god_n i_o speak_v of_o the_o new_a creature_n or_o the_o regenerate_v part_n in_o man._n from_o hence_o let_v i_o draw_v this_o argument_n viz._n arg._n 1._o that_o which_o be_v beget_v and_o bear_v of_o and_o be_v bring_v forth_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n or_o of_o immortal_a and_o incorruptible_a seed_n be_v a_o immortal_a or_o incorruptible_a babe_n but_o the_o new_a creature_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o regenerate_v be_v beget_v and_o bear_v of_o or_o bring_v forth_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n therefore_o the_o new_a creature_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o regenerate_v be_v a_o argument_n that_o god_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o through_o the_o suretyship_n of_o jesus_n christ_n have_v provide_v that_o his_o child_n shall_v never_o so_o rebel_v against_o he_o as_o final_o to_o depart_v i_o will_v put_v my_o fear_n 14._o into_o their_o heart_n and_o they_o shall_v not_o depart_v from_o i_o though_o they_o may_v be_v backslide_a child_n yet_o god_n say_v child_n be_v heir_n of_o god_n and_o joint_a heir_n with_o christ_n this_o i_o grant_v be_v not_o always_o true_a of_o the_o child_n of_o earthly_a parent_n or_o earthly_a prince_n for_o they_o be_v ofttimes_o disinherit_v but_o it_o be_v otherwise_o here_o they_o be_v all_o bear_a heir_n their_o be_v regenerate_v and_o unite_v to_o christ_n give_v they_o a_o sure_a and_o undoubted_a right_n be_v not_o quicken_v regenerate_v or_o make_v new_a creature_n nor_o unite_v to_o jesus_n christ_n that_o in_o the_o person_n thus_o wrought_v upon_o there_o be_v or_o may_v be_v such_o a_o assent_n which_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n i_o purpose_v to_o open_a before_o i_o close_o with_o this_o text._n four_o i_o shall_v proceed_v to_o show_v you_o what_o a_o taste_n of_o god_n and_o degree_n of_o inward_a as_o well_o as_o outward_a sanctification_n 2._o these_o therefore_o taste_v and_o eat_v also_o and_o that_o too_o out_o of_o pure_a necessity_n if_o i_o say_v the_o soul_n feed_v not_o upon_o christ_n eat_v not_o his_o flesh_n and_o drink_v not_o his_o blood_n i_o shall_v perish_v give_v i_o christ_n or_o i_o shall_v die_v be_v the_o voice_n of_o this_o sort_n other_o take_v a_o taste_n as_o if_o they_o care_v not_o whether_o they_o eat_v or_o eat_v not_o 3._o a_o true_a believer_n do_v taste_v eat_v and_o also_o digest_v the_o word_n it_o be_v that_o which_o they_o live_v upon_o and_o hereby_o they_o come_v to_o have_v union_n with_o christ_n by_o faith_n the_o soul_n partake_v of_o the_o divine_a nature_n but_o a_o common_a taste_v or_o a_o common_a without_o christ_n be_v but_o like_o dry_a bread_n and_o lean_a meat_n that_o have_v but_o little_a juice_n or_o nourishment_n in_o they_o they_o must_v be_v delight_v with_o fatness_n know_v it_o incorporate_v with_o the_o digestive_a humour_n power_n and_o faculty_n of_o the_o stomach_n whereinsoever_o it_o consist_v or_o it_o will_v not_o nourish_v give_v a_o man_n never_o so_o much_o food_n if_o there_o be_v any_o noxious_a humour_n in_o the_o stomach_n hinder_v it_o from_o mix_v with_o the_o power_n of_o digestion_n say_v a_o worthy_a writer_n it_o will_v no_o way_n profit_v the_o person_n but_o the_o 2._o word_n preach_v do_v not_o profit_v they_o not_o be_v mix_v with_o faith_n in_o they_o that_o hear_v it_o meat_n nourish_v not_o without_o concoction_n so_o unless_o the_o soul_n receive_v and_o digest_v the_o word_n through_o faith_n so_o that_o the_o word_n and_o the_o heart_n be_v unite_v together_o all_o be_v nothing_o but_o a_o bare_a taste_n will_v never_o do_v this_o and_o 3._o like_a as_o food_n when_o it_o be_v well_o digest_v be_v turn_v into_o flesh_n and_o blood_n and_o spirit_n so_o where_o a_o person_n feed_v on_o the_o word_n by_o faith_n or_o eat_v and_o digest_v it_o it_o be_v turn_v into_o a_o principle_n of_o life_n and_o spiritual_a strength_n as_o some_o man_n who_o have_v for_o want_v of_o food_n be_v bring_v so_o low_a and_o faint_a that_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o die_v away_o but_o by_o feed_v on_o good_a food_n and_o digest_v it_o soon_o perceive_v a_o renew_n of_o their_o strength_n life_n and_o vigour_n seem_v to_o return_v
