as_o touch_v his_o conversion_n it_o be_v long_o after_o the_o glorification_n of_o christ_n wherefore_o they_o shall_v now_o consider_v which_o of_o these_o they_o aught_o more_o to_o believe_v reproachful_a death_n of_o the_o cross_n that_o he_o be_v raise_v up_o again_o that_o he_o now_o sit_v at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n the_o father_n and_o that_o he_o have_v power_n both_o in_o heaven_n and_o in_o earth_n 18.2â—_n for_o this_o cause_n paul_n call_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n crucify_v the_o word_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o foolish_a preach_n which_o to_o the_o jew_n be_v own_o devotion_n please_v god_n therefore_o when_o god_n speak_v reason_n judge_v his_o word_n to_o be_v heresy_n and_o the_o word_n of_o the_o devil_n for_o it_o seem_v absurd_a and_o foolish_a but_o faith_n kill_v reason_n reason_n and_o slai_v that_o beast_n which_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o all_o creature_n can_v kill_v so_o abraham_n kill_v it_o by_o faith_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n by_o which_o word_n seed_n be_v promise_v he_o of_o sara_n who_o be_v barren_a and_o now_o past_a child_n bear_v unto_o this_o word_n reason_n yield_v not_o straight_a way_n in_o abraham_n but_o doubtless_o it_o fight_v against_o faith_n in_o he_o judge_v it_o to_o be_v a_o absurd_a a_o foolish_a and_o unpossible_a thing_n that_o that_o sara_n who_o be_v now_o not_o only_o 90._o year_n of_o age_n but_o also_o be_v barren_a by_o nature_n shall_v bring_v forth_o a_o son_n abraham_n thus_o faith_n no_o doubt_n wrestle_v with_o reason_n in_o abraham_n but_o herein_o faith_n get_v the_o the_o work_n of_o all_o monk_n and_o meritemonger_n be_v nothing_o at_o all_o for_o by_o this_o sacrifice_n first_o as_o i_o say_v they_o kill_v reason_n a_o great_a and_o mighty_a enemy_n of_o god._n enemy_n for_o reason_n despise_v god_n deny_v his_o wisdom_n righteousness_n power_n truth_n mercy_n majesty_n and_o divinity_n moreover_o by_o the_o same_o sacrifice_n they_o yield_v glory_n unto_o god_n that_o be_v they_o believe_v he_o to_o be_v righteous_a good_a faithful_a true_a etc_o etc_o they_o believe_v that_o he_o can_v do_v all_o thing_n that_o all_o his_o word_n be_v holy_a faith_n true_a lively_a and_o effectual_a etc_n etc_n which_o be_v a_o most_o acceptable_a obedience_n unto_o god_n therefore_o there_o can_v be_v no_o great_a or_o more_o holy_a religion_n in_o the_o world_n nor_o more_o acceptable_a service_n unto_o god_n than_o faith_n be_v contrariwise_o the_o justiciary_n and_o such_o as_o seek_v righteousness_n by_o their_o own_o work_v lack_v faith_n in_o deed_n do_v many_o thing_n they_o fast_o they_o pray_v they_o watch_v they_o lay_v cross_n upon_o themselves_o god._n but_o because_o they_o think_v to_o appease_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o deserve_v his_o benefit_n to_o conclude_v they_o thrust_v god_n out_o of_o his_o seat_n and_o set_v themselves_o in_o his_o place_n for_o they_o reject_v and_o despise_v the_o word_n of_o god_n do_v choose_v unto_o themselves_o such_o worship_n and_o work_v as_o god_n have_v not_o command_v they_o imagine_v that_o god_n have_v a_o pleasure_n therein_o and_o they_o hope_v to_o receive_v a_o reward_n of_o he_o for_o the_o same_o therefore_o they_o kill_v not_o reason_n that_o mighty_a enemy_n of_o god_n but_o quicken_v it_o and_o they_o take_v from_o god_n his_o majesty_n and_o his_o divinity_n and_o from_o this_o knowledge_n must_v needs_o conceive_v this_o fantasy_n in_o his_o heart_n i_o will_v set_v up_o such_o a_o service_n of_o god_n i_o will_v enter_v into_o such_o a_o order_n i_o will_v choose_v this_o or_o that_o work_n and_o so_o will_v i_o serve_v god_n and_o i_o doubt_n not_o but_o god_n will_v accept_v this_o and_o reward_v i_o with_o everlasting_a life_n for_o the_o same_o for_o he_o be_v merciful_a and_o liberal_a give_v all_o good_a thing_n even_o to_o the_o unworthy_a and_o unthankful_a much_o more_o will_v he_o geve_v unto_o i_o grace_n and_o everlasting_a life_n for_o my_o great_a and_o manifold_a good_a deed_n and_o merit_n this_o be_v the_o high_a wisdom_n reason_n righteousness_n and_o religion_n that_o reason_n can_v judge_v of_o which_o be_v common_a jew_n a_o turk_n and_o a_o heretic_n in_o deed_n there_o be_v a_o difference_n of_o the_o person_n the_o place_n rite_n religion_n work_n and_o worship_n notwithstanding_o there_o be_v all_o one_o and_o the_o same_o reason_n the_o same_o heart_n opinion_n and_o cogitation_n in_o they_o all_o for_o the_o turk_n think_v the_o self_n same_o thing_n that_o the_o charterhouse_n monk_n do_v namely_o if_o i_o do_v this_o or_o that_o work_n god_n will_v be_v merciful_a unto_o i_o if_o i_o do_v it_o not_o he_o will_v be_v angry_a there_o be_v no_o mean_a between_o man_n work_v and_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n if_o this_o knowledge_n be_v darken_v or_o deface_v it_o be_v all_o one_o whether_o thou_o be_v a_o monk_n a_o turk_n a_o jew._n etc_n etc_n wherefore_o it_o be_v a_o extreme_a madness_n that_o the_o papist_n and_o turk_n do_v so_o strive_v among_o themselves_o about_o the_o religion_n and_o service_n of_o god_n contend_v that_o both_o of_o they_o have_v the_o true_a religion_n and_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n and_o the_o monk_n themselves_o agree_v not_o together_o for_o one_o of_o they_o will_v be_v account_v more_o holy_a than_o a_o other_o for_o certain_a foolish_a outward_a ceremony_n and_o yet_o in_o their_o heart_n the_o opinion_n of_o they_o all_o be_v so_o like_a thaâ—_z one_o egg_n be_v not_o more_o like_a to_o a_o other_o for_o this_o be_v the_o imagination_n of_o they_o all_o alike_o if_o i_o do_v this_o work_n god_n will_v have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o if_o i_o do_v it_o not_o he_o will_v be_v angry_a and_o therefore_o every_o man_n that_o revolt_v from_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n must_v needs_o fall_v into_o idolatry_n and_o conceive_v such_o a_o imagination_n of_o god_n as_o be_v not_o agreeable_a to_o his_o nature_n as_o the_o charterhouse_n monk_n for_o the_o observe_n of_o his_o rule_n the_o turk_n for_o the_o keep_v of_o his_o alcoran_n have_v this_o affiance_n that_o he_o please_v god_n and_o shall_v receive_v a_o reward_n of_o he_o for_o his_o labour_n such_o a_o god_n as_o after_o this_o sort_n forgive_v sin_n and_o justify_v sinner_n god._n can_v no_o where_o be_v find_v and_o therefore_o this_o be_v but_o a_o vain_a imagination_n a_o dream_n and_o a_o idol_n of_o the_o heart_n for_o god_n have_v not_o promise_v that_o he_o will_v save_v and_o justify_v man_n for_o the_o religion_n observation_n ceremony_n and_o ordinance_n devise_v by_o man_n yea_o god_n abhor_v nothing_o more_o as_o the_o whole_a scripture_n witness_v than_o such_o willwork_n such_o service_n rite_n and_o ceremony_n man._n for_o the_o which_o also_o he_o
monk_n if_o he_o keep_v his_o order_n and_o perform_v his_o vow_n but_o all_o these_o be_v deceive_v and_o become_v vain_a in_o their_o own_o cogitation_n as_o paul_n say_v rom._n 1_n not_o know_v what_o please_v or_o displease_v god_n therefore_o in_o steed_n of_o the_o true_a and_o natural_a god_n they_o worship_v the_o dream_n and_o imagination_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n this_o be_v it_o that_o paul_n mean_v when_o he_o say_v when_o you_o know_v not_o god_n that_o be_v when_o you_o know_v not_o the_o will_n of_o god_n you_o serve_v those_o which_o by_o nature_n be_v no_o god_n that_o be_v to_o say_v you_o serve_v the_o dream_n &_o imagination_n of_o your_o own_o heart_n whereby_o you_o imagine_v without_o the_o word_n the_o god_n be_v to_o be_v worship_v with_o this_o or_o that_o work_n with_o this_o or_o that_o rite_n or_o ceremony_n for_o upon_o this_o proposition_n which_o all_o man_n do_v natural_o hold_v come_v namely_o that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n have_v spring_v all_o idolatry_n which_o without_o that_o knowledge_n of_o the_o divinity_n can_v never_o have_v come_v into_o the_o world_n but_o because_o man_n have_v this_o natural_a knowledge_n of_o god_n they_o conceive_v vain_a and_o wicked_a imagination_n of_o god_n without_o &_o against_o the_o word_n which_o they_o esteem_v and_o maintain_v as_o the_o very_a truth_n itself_o and_o so_o dream_v that_o god_n be_v such_o a_o one_o as_o by_o nature_n he_o be_v not_o will_v so_o the_o monk_n imagine_v he_o to_o be_v such_o a_o god_n as_o forgive_v sin_n give_v grace_n and_o everlasting_a life_n for_o the_o keep_v of_o his_o rule_n this_o god_n be_v not_o where_o to_o be_v find_v therefore_o he_o serve_v not_o the_o true_a god_n but_o that_o which_o by_o nature_n be_v no_o god_n to_o wit_n the_o imagination_n and_o idol_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n that_o be_v to_o say_v his_o own_o false_a and_o vain_a opinion_n of_o god_n which_o he_o dream_v to_o be_v a_o undoubted_a truth_n now_o reason_n itself_o will_v enforce_v we_o to_o confess_v that_o man_n opinion_n be_v no_o god._n word_n therefore_o who_o so_o ever_o will_v worship_v god_n without_o this_o word_n serve_v not_o the_o true_a god_n as_o paul_n say_v but_o that_o which_o by_o nature_n be_v no_o god._n therefore_o whether_o you_o call_v rudiment_n here_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n or_o else_o the_o tradition_n of_o the_o gentile_n albeit_o he_o speak_v here_o proper_o and_o principal_o of_o the_o rudiment_n of_o moses_n there_o be_v no_o great_a difference_n for_o he_o that_o fall_v from_o grace_n to_o the_o law_n fall_v with_o no_o less_o danger_n than_o he_o that_o fall_v from_o grace_n to_o idolatry_n for_o without_o christ_n there_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o mere_a idolatry_n idolatry_n a_o idol_n and_o false_a imagination_n of_o god_n whether_o it_o be_v call_v moses_n law_n or_o the_o pope_n ordinance_n or_o the_o turk_n alcoran_n etc_n etc_n therefore_o he_o say_v with_o a_o certain_a admiration_n verse_n 9_o but_o now_o see_v you_o know_v god._n as_o though_o he_o will_v say_v this_o be_v a_o marvellous_a thing_n that_o you_o know_v god_n by_o the_o preach_n of_o faith_n do_v so_o sudden_o revolt_v from_o the_o true_a knowledge_n of_o his_o will_n wherein_o i_o think_v you_o be_v so_o sure_o establish_v that_o i_o fear_v nothing_o less_o than_o that_o you_o shall_v so_o easy_o be_v overthrow_v do_v now_o again_o by_o the_o instigation_n of_o the_o false_a apostle_n return_v to_o the_o weak_a and_o beggarly_a ceremony_n which_o you_o will_v serve_v again_o afresh_o you_o hear_v before_o by_o my_o preach_n that_o this_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n god._n to_o bless_v all_o nation_n not_o by_o circumcision_n or_o by_o the_o observation_n of_o the_o law_n but_o by_o christ_n promise_v to_o abraham_n they_o that_o believe_v in_o he_o shall_v be_v bless_v with_o faithful_a abraham_n they_o be_v the_o son_n and_o heir_n of_o god._n 4.7_o thus_o i_o say_v have_v you_o know_v else_o but_o drive_v man_n to_o desperation_n &_o therefore_o must_v be_v reject_v wherefore_o when_o he_o call_v the_o law_n weak_a and_o beggarly_a rudiment_n he_o speak_v of_o the_o law_n in_o his_o terrible_a power_n his_o dignity_n and_o his_o riches_n but_o his_o whole_a kingdom_n will_v quick_o fall_v this_o place_n which_o paul_n here_o handle_v be_v weighty_a and_o of_o great_a importance_n god._n and_o therefore_o the_o more_o diligent_o to_o be_v mark_v to_o wit_n that_o they_o which_o fall_v from_o grace_n to_o the_o law_n do_v utter_o lose_v the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o
