or_o feile_v a_o little_a tenderness_n of_o heart_n devotion_n we_o must_v seek_v in_o prayer_n for_o abundance_n of_o devotion_n persuade_v themselves_o forthwith_o that_o they_o have_v then_o accomplish_v and_o perform_v their_o exercise_n but_o sure_o this_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o the_o obteininge_n of_o that_o thing_n which_o we_o here_o seek_v to_o have_v for_o like_a as_o a_o little_a dew_n or_o sprinkelinge_v of_o water_n be_v not_o sufficient_a to_o cause_v the_o earth_n to_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n which_o do_v no_o more_o but_o only_o allay_v the_o dust_n and_o wet_v the_o uppermost_a part_n of_o the_o ground_n but_o it_o be_v neidfull_a also_o to_o have_v so_o great_a abundance_n of_o water_n that_o it_o may_v enter_v into_o the_o innermost_a part_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o there_o soak_v and_o water_n throwghe_o the_o same_o even_o so_o if_o we_o will_v have_v our_o soul_n to_o bring_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o virtue_n and_o good_a work_n it_o be_v not_o sufficient_a to_o have_v that_o little_a dew_n and_o sprinkelinge_v of_o devotion_n which_o at_o the_o turn_v of_o the_o head_n be_v dry_v up_o with_o the_o least_o blast_n of_o wound_n or_o heat_n of_o son_n that_o come_v with_o the_o which_o the_o soul_n make_v some_o outward_a appearance_n that_o it_o be_v devout_a but_o in_o very_o deide_v it_o be_v not_o so_o within_o but_o it_o be_v also_o requisite_a to_o have_v a_o long_o profound_a prayer_n and_o great_a devotion_n which_o after_o the_o manner_n of_o a_o great_a shower_n of_o rain_n may_v descend_v and_o sink_v down_o into_o the_o bothom_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o there_o cause_v it_o to_o be_v so_o well_o water_v and_o wassh_v therewith_o that_o neither_o son_n nor_o wind_n i_o mean_v hereby_o that_o neither_o any_o business_n nor_o care_n of_o the_o world_n may_v be_v able_a to_o dry_v it_o up_o nor_o make_v any_o alteration_n therein_o accord_v hereunto_o we_o read_v of_o the_o bless_a holy_a religious_a woman_n s._n clare_n clare_n s._n clare_n that_o she_o rise_v sometime_o from_o prayer_n and_o meditation_n so_o whole_o absorpt_v in_o contemplation_n upon_o almighty_a god_n that_o she_o can_v not_o but_z with_o very_o great_a difficulty_n frame_v her_o heart_n to_o deal_v in_o such_o business_n as_o she_o be_v enforce_v to_o attend_v unto_o by_o reason_n of_o her_o office_n this_o kind_n of_o devotion_n be_v not_o like_a unto_o that_o which_o be_v carry_v away_o with_o the_o wind_n and_o dry_v up_o with_o every_o air_n but_o it_o be_v like_a unto_o that_o devotion_n whereof_o it_o be_v write_v in_o the_o canticle_n 8.7_o cant._n 8.7_o that_o many_o water_n shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o quench_v the_o fire_n of_o charity_n neither_o shall_v the_o great_a river_n overflowe_v it_o time_n in_o prayer_n it_o be_v better_a to_o have_v one_o long_a time_n then_o two_o short_a time_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v counsel_v and_o that_o for_o very_o good_a cause_n to_o take_v as_o long_o a_o time_n for_o this_o holy_a exercise_n of_o prayer_n and_o meditation_n as_o we_o may_v and_o surly_a it_o be_v better_a to_o have_v one_o long_a time_n for_o the_o same_o than_o two_o short_a time_n for_o if_o the_o time_n of_o prayer_n be_v short_a all_o be_v spend_v in_o setlinge_n the_o imagination_n and_o in_o quietinge_v the_o heart_n and_o then_o so_o soon_o as_o we_o have_v quiet_v the_o same_o we_o rise_v up_o forthwith_o from_o our_o exercise_n at_o the_o very_a time_n when_o we_o shall_v begin_v it_o so_o that_o we_o be_v like_a unto_o the_o miner_n which_o in_o searchinge_v for_o gold_n geve_v over_o digginge_v at_o the_o very_a time_n when_o he_o find_v the_o vain_a thereof_o and_o so_o lose_v his_o former_a traveyll_n when_o he_o shall_v present_o enjoy_v the_o fruit_n of_o his_o labour_n for_o undoubted_o the_o fruit_n and_o profit_n of_o a_o long_a and_o profound_a prayer_n be_v wont_v sometime_o to_o be_v so_o great_a that_o a_o man_n have_v thereby_o store_n enough_o to_o spend_v many_o day_n together_o 17._o 3._o reg._n 17._o and_o to_o go_v with_o elias_n to_o the_o mount_n of_o almighty_a god_n with_o the_o virtue_n and_o force_n of_o the_o food_n and_o sustenance_n which_o he_o have_v there_o receyve_v prayer_n one_o hour_n and_o a_o half_a or_o two_o hour_n be_v a_o conveniente_a time_n for_o the_o exercise_n of_o prayer_n but_o to_o descend_v more_o particulerlie_o in_o limitinge_v this_o time_n i_o be_o of_o opinion_n that_o what_o so_o ever_o be_v less_o than_o one_o hour_n and_o a_o half_a or_o two_o hour_n be_v to_o short_a a_o time_n for_o prayer_n and_o meditation_n for_o often_o time_n there_o be_v spend_v more_o than_o half_a a_o hour_n in_o temperinge_v and_o tuninge_v our_o instrument_n to_o wit_n our_o heart_n and_o in_o quietinge_v our_o imagination_n and_o so_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o this_o time_n be_v little_a enough_o for_o the_o enjoyinge_v of_o the_o fruit_n of_o prayer_n true_a it_o be_v i_o grant_v that_o when_o we_o go_v to_o this_o exercise_n after_o some_o other_o holy_a exercise_n as_o for_o example_n after_o matin_n or_o after_o that_o we_o have_v hard_a or_o say_v mass_n or_o after_o some_o devoute_a read_n meditation_n early_a in_o the_o morning_n before_o day_n be_v a_o very_a fit_n time_n for_o the_o exercise_n of_o prayer_n and_o meditation_n or_o vocal_a prayer_n our_o heart_n be_v then_o better_o dispose_v unto_o this_o exercise_n for_o then_o this_o heavenly_a fire_n of_o devotion_n be_v enkendele_v with_o less_o difficulty_n in_o our_o heart_n which_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o former_a holy_a exercise_n be_v very_o apt_a like_o dry_a wood_n to_o take_v fire_n much_o more_o quick_o therein_o likewise_o early_o in_o the_o morning_n before_o day_n the_o time_n of_o our_o prayer_n and_o meditation_n may_v be_v the_o short_a because_o than_o our_o heart_n be_v much_o better_o dispose_v for_o this_o exercise_n as_o hereafter_o shall_v be_v declare_v howbeit_o in_o case_n
