five_o notwithstanding_o so_o hard_o yet_o it_o must_v be_v do_v else_o we_o can_v escape_v hell_n torment_n so_o much_o we_o have_v in_o this_o mark_n 9.43_o to_o 49._o it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o great_a concernment_n to_o know_v how_o the_o case_n stand_v with_o we_o in_o this_o matter_n now_o if_o upon_o examination_n we_o find_v upon_o true_a and_o solid_a ground_n that_o we_o have_v some_o good_a hope_n through_o grace_n to_o avoid_v this_o place_n and_o state_n of_o torment_n oh_o what_o ground_n of_o unspeakable_a joy_n be_v here_o to_o a_o poor_a soul_n there_o be_v more_o cause_n of_o joy_n in_o this_o than_o can_v be_v from_o cast_v out_o of_o devil_n and_o do_v mighty_a work_n that_o be_v not_o a_o sufficient_a ground_n of_o joy_n this_o be_v see_v luk._n 10.20_o but_o if_o punishment_n of_o hypocrite_n and_o unbeliever_n be_v endless_a and_o eternal_a as_o they_o be_v not_o tolerable_a so_o not_o terminable_a the_o truth_n of_o this_o doctrine_n be_v plain_a from_o the_o constant_a language_n of_o old_a and_o new_a testament_n the_o fire_n be_v everlasting_a eternal_a unquenchable_a this_o be_v the_o scripture_n language_n i_o need_v have_v say_v nothing_o to_o it_o be_v to_o show_v the_o certainty_n second_o this_o truth_n so_o reiterated_a be_v not_o only_o a_o truth_n but_o a_o truth_n that_o lie_v much_o upon_o christ_n heart_n this_o eternity_n of_o torment_n lie_v much_o upon_o christ_n heart_n he_o be_v much_o affect_v with_o it_o and_o three_o christ_n will_v fain_o affect_v his_o disciple_n also_o with_o it_o four_o whereas_o our_o lord_n add_v this_o three_o time_n the_o worm_n that_o never_o die_v we_o be_v instruct_v in_o these_o two_o thing_n first_o that_o the_o severity_n of_o the_o punishment_n itself_o be_v endless_a second_o that_o the_o creature_n in_o this_o fire_n be_v eternal_a and_o endless_a that_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v annihilate_v in_o it_o or_o consume_v to_o nothing_o and_o so_o a_o end_n of_o his_o torment_n as_o to_o himself_o by_o the_o fire_n be_v understand_v the_o punishment_n itself_o by_o the_o worm_n must_v be_v understand_v the_o person_n himself_o the_o truth_n of_o this_o doctrine_n be_v yet_o further_o confirm_v from_o what_o the_o apostle_n speak_v to_o the_o thessalonian_o 1_o thes_n 8.9_o who_o shall_v be_v punish_v with_o everlasting_a perdition_n from_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o power_n the_o same_o be_v far_o confirm_v rev._n 14.19_o 20._o the_o smoke_n of_o their_o torment_n ascend_v up_o for_o ever_o and_o ever_o now_o our_o lord_n be_v great_o desirous_a that_o person_n may_v take_v warning_n and_o be_v awaken_v before_o they_o come_v into_o this_o gulf_n with_o dives_n it_o be_v say_v he_o lift_v up_o his_o eye_n be_v in_o relate_v to_o the_o eternity_n of_o god_n when_o god_n be_v call_v the_o eternal_a and_o everlasting_a god_n and_o where_o it_o be_v say_v he_o reign_v for_o ever_o and_o ever_o i_o hope_v the_o objector_n will_v not_o say_v that_o god_n and_o his_o government_n be_v to_o terminate_v so_o that_o ever_o and_o ever_o in_o that_o case_n can_v have_v a_o end_n neither_o will_v it_o i_o hope_v be_v think_v that_o the_o joy_n and_o happiness_n of_o the_o righteous_a shall_v have_v a_o end_n which_o yet_o if_o ever_o and_o everlasting_a have_v a_o end_n lie_v in_o danger_n to_o have_v a_o end_n also_o so_o that_o in_o our_o understanding_n of_o these_o speaking_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n we_o must_v diligent_o observe_v the_o scope_n of_o the_o place_n and_o thing_n speak_v of_o that_o must_v guide_v we_o in_o our_o understanding_n and_o then_o it_o will_v not_o appear_v that_o what_o be_v speak_v as_o to_o the_o punishment_n of_o the_o reprobate_n be_v temporal_a but_o eternal_a some_o will_v urge_v what_o the_o apostle_n judas_n speak_v of_o the_o punishment_n of_o sodom_n to_o weaken_v our_o position_n who_o it_o be_v say_v suffer_v the_o vengeance_n of_o eternal_a fire_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v that_o punishment_n may_v be_v call_v eternal_a from_o these_o consideration_n first_o from_o the_o perfection_n of_o it_o second_o from_o the_o continuance_n of_o the_o burn_a as_o it_o be_v report_v throughout_o all_o age_n unto_o this_o day_n three_o from_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o or_o rather_o the_o matter_n of_o it_o it_o be_v fire_n in_o thy_o person_n so_o want_v we_o never_o see_v thou_o in_o thy_o person_n hungry_a or_o thirsty_a or_o naked_a and_o we_o do_v not_o dream_v in_o the_o least_o that_o thou_o be_v so_o immmediate_o concern_v in_o these_o pitiful_a poor_a inconsiderate_a indigent_a soul_n have_v we_o but_o imagine_v that_o they_o have_v belong_v to_o thou_o they_o shall_v have_v be_v feed_v and_o clothe_v and_o this_o opinion_n seem_v to_o be_v favour_v in_o christ_n reply_n by_o way_n of_o explanation_n show_v they_o for_o certain_a that_o these_o do_v belong_v to_o he_o whatever_o they_o think_v though_o so_o poor_a but_o second_o it_o may_v be_v take_v in_o the_o worst_a sense_n that_o they_o have_v no_o love_n to_o christ_n nor_o any_o that_o do_v bear_v his_o image_n and_o so_o be_v whole_o negligent_a herein_o and_o this_o latter_a sense_n seem_v most_o clear_o to_o agree_v to_o christ_n severe_a proceed_n in_o this_o context_n take_v of_o it_o as_o a_o bold_a pertinacious_a plea_n and_o defence_n we_o may_v note_v this_o doctrine_n it_o be_v the_o property_n of_o a_o corrupt_a heart_n to_o plead_v his_o justification_n even_o to_o god_n himself_o and_o christ_n himself_o this_o
