word_n must_v be_v yet_o he_o add_v and_o explain_v that_o the_o word_n be_v with_o god_n and_o be_v god_n lest_o any_o shall_v doubt_v of_o the_o divinity_n of_o the_o word_n or_o have_v low_a thought_n of_o he_o than_o he_o deserve_v the_o word_n then_o be_v divine_a and_o a_o apt_a term_n it_o be_v that_o the_o evangelist_n style_v he_o by_o since_o it_o be_v so_o great_a a_o expression_n life_n and_o the_o life_n be_v the_o light_n of_o men._n this_o be_v ou●_n point_n the_o evangelist_n first_o begin_v with_o the_o nature_n and_o be_v of_o the_o word_n from_o thence_o he_o descend_v to_o the_o work_n of_o the_o word_n and_o last_o than_o he_o tell_v we_o what_o the_o word_n be_v with_o respect_n to_o man_n above_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o creation_n viz._n the_o word_n be_v life_n and_o the_o life_n be_v the_o light_n of_o men._n the_o relation_n must_v be_v very_o near_a and_o intimate_v when_o the_o very_a life_n of_o the_o word_n that_o be_v with_o god_n and_o be_v god_n be_v the_o light_n of_o man_n as_o if_o man_n be_v next_o to_o the_o word_n and_o above_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o his_o work_n for_o it_o be_v not_o say_v so_o of_o any_o other_o creature_n man_n can_v want_v light_a then_o no_o not_o a_o divine_a light_n for_o if_o this_o be_v not_o divine_a that_o be_v the_o life_n of_o the_o divine_a word_n there_o can_v be_v no_o such_o thing_n at_o all_o as_o divine_a or_o supernatural_a light_n and_o life_n and_o the_o text_n do_v not_o only_o prove_v the_o divinity_n of_o the_o light_n but_o the_o universality_n of_o it_o also_o because_o the_o man_n mention_v in_o it_o be_v mankind_n which_o be_v yet_o more_o distinct_o express_v in_o the_o 9th_o verse_n that_o be_v the_o true_a light_n which_o light_v every_o man_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n imply_v that_o he_o that_o light_v not_o mankind_n be_v not_o that_o true_a light_n and_o therefore_o john_n be_v not_o that_o light_n but_o bear_v witness_n of_o he_o that_o be_v who_o light_v every_o man_n to_o wit_n the_o word_n that_o take_v flesh_n so_o that_o both_o
