justify_v faith_n faith_n therefore_o they_o make_v to_o be_v a_o full_a persuasion_n of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n through_o the_o mediation_n of_o christ_n or_o that_o what_o christ_n before_o he_o as_o that_o i_o shall_v not_o insist_v on_o the_o refutation_n of_o it_o 2._o it_o be_v plead_v that_o although_o this_o righteousness_n be_v not_o a_o exact_a fulfil_n of_o the_o moral_a law_n yet_o be_v it_o the_o accomplishment_n of_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n or_o entire_o answer_v the_o law_n of_o grace_n and_o all_o that_o be_v require_v of_o we_o therein_o ans._n 1._o this_o whole_o take_v away_o sin_n and_o the_o pardon_n of_o it_o no_o less_o than_o do_v the_o conceit_n of_o sinless_a perfection_n which_o we_o now_o reject_v for_o if_o our_o obedience_n do_v answer_v the_o only_a law_n and_o rule_n of_o it_o whereby_o it_o be_v to_o be_v try_v measure_a and_o judge_v then_o be_v there_o no_o sin_n in_o we_o nor_o need_v of_o pardon_n no_o do_v no_o way_n answer_v and_o therefore_o none_o by_o it_o can_v be_v justify_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n 2._o although_o this_o righteousness_n be_v accept_v in_o justify_v person_n by_o the_o grace_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n yet_o consider_v the_o principle_n of_o it_o with_o all_o the_o act_n and_o duty_n wherein_o it_o do_v consist_v as_o they_o be_v require_v and_o prescribe_v in_o the_o gospel_n unto_o we_o and_o they_o do_v neither_o joint_o nor_o several_o fulfil_v and_o and_o answer_v the_o command_n of_o the_o gospel_n no_o more_o than_o they_o do_v the_o command_n of_o the_o law_n wherefore_o they_o can_v all_o of_o they_o constitute_v a_o righteousness_n consist_v in_o a_o exact_a conformity_n unto_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o gospel_n or_o the_o law_n of_o it_o for_o it_o be_v impious_a to_o imagine_v that_o the_o gospel_n require_v any_o duty_n of_o we_o suppose_v the_o love_n of_o god_n do_v make_v any_o abatement_n as_o unto_o the_o matter_n manner_n or_o degree_n of_o perfection_n in_o it_o from_o what_o be_v require_v by_o the_o law_n do_v the_o gospel_n require_v a_o low_a degree_n of_o love_n to_o god_n a_o less_o perfect_a love_n than_o the_o law_n do_v god_n forbid_v the_o same_o may_v be_v say_v concern_v the_o inward_a frame_n of_o our_o nature_n and_o all_o other_o duty_n whatever_o wherefore_o although_o this_o righteousness_n be_v accept_v in_o justify_v person_n as_o god_n have_v respect_n unto_o abel_n and_o then_o unto_o his_o offer_n in_o the_o way_n and_o unto_o the_o end_n that_o shall_v be_v afterward_o declare_v yet_o according_a unto_o its_o original_a sense_n and_o obligation_n for_o so_o it_o must_v be_v if_o this_o imperfect_a righteousness_n be_v on_o any_o account_n esteem_v a_o fulfil_n of_o the_o rule_n the_o consideration_n of_o a_o righteousness_n that_o be_v imperfect_a and_o in_o the_o law_n he_o pronounce_v every_o one_o accurse_a who_o continue_v not_o in_o all_o thing_n require_v by_o it_o and_o as_o they_o be_v therein_o require_v but_o it_o be_v say_v that_o this_o righteousness_n be_v no_o otherwise_o to_o be_v consider_v but_o as_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n contrary_a to_o the_o signification_n of_o the_o word_n the_o constant_a use_n of_o it_o in_o the_o scripture_n the_o common_a notion_n of_o it_o among_o mankind_n the_o sense_n of_o man_n in_o their_o own_o conscience_n who_o find_v themselves_o under_o a_o obligation_n unto_o duty_n and_o express_v testimony_n of_o the_o scripture_n as_o that_o i_o somewhat_o wonder_n how_o it_o can_v be_v pretend_v but_o it_o shall_v be_v speak_v unto_o elsewhere_o 3_o if_o this_o righteousness_n be_v the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n whereon_o we_o be_v justify_v it_o must_v be_v in_o itself_o such_o as_o exact_o answer_v some_o rule_n or_o law_n of_o righteousness_n and_o so_o be_v perfect_a which_o it_o do_v not_o and_o therefore_o can_v bear_v the_o place_n of_o a_o righteousness_n in_o our_o justification_n 4_o that_o this_o righteousness_n be_v the_o condition_n of_o our_o justification_n before_o god_n or_o of_o that_o interest_n in_o the_o righteousness_n no_o true_a believer_n but_o have_v these_o two_o thing_n fix_v in_o his_o mind_n and_o conscience_n 1._o that_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o principle_n habit_n quality_n oraction_n wherein_o he_o come_v short_a of_o a_o perfect_a compliance_n with_o the_o holy_a law_n of_o god_n even_o as_o it_o require_v perfect_a obedience_n but_o that_o it_o have_v in_o it_o the_o nature_n of_o sin_n and_o that_o in_o itself_o deserve_v the_o curse_n annex_v original_o unto_o the_o breach_n of_o that_o law_n they_o do_v no_o therefore_o apprehend_v that_o its_o obligation_n be_v take_v off_o weaken_a or_o derogate_a from_o in_o any_o thing_n 2_o that_o there_o be_v no_o relief_n for_o he_o with_o respect_n unto_o what_o the_o law_n require_v or_o unto_o what_o it_o threaten_v but_o by_o the_o with_o god_n himself_o there_o be_v no_o variableness_n nor_o shadow_n of_o change_v 2_o it_o will_v leave_v no_o standard_n of_o righteousness_n but_o only_o a_o lesbian_a rule_n which_o turn_v and_o apply'_v itself_o unto_o the_o light_n and_o ability_n of_o man_n and_o leaf_n at_o least_o as_o many_o various_a measure_n of_o righteousness_n as_o there_o be_v believer_n in_o the_o world_n 3_o it_o include_v a_o variation_n in_o the_o centre_n of_o all_o religion_n which_o be_v the_o natural_a and_o moral_a relation_n of_o man_n unto_o god_n for_o so_o there_o must_v be_v if_o all_o that_o be_v once_o necessary_a thereunto_o do_v not_o still_o continue_v so_o to_o be_v 4_o it_o be_v dishonourable_a unto_o the_o mediation_n of_o christ._n for_o it_o make_v the_o principal_a end_n of_o it_o to_o be_v that_o god_n shall_v accept_v of_o a_o righteousness_n unto_o our_o justification_n inexpressible_o beneath_o that_o which_o he_o require_v in_o the_o law_n of_o our_o creation_n and_o this_o in_o a_o sense_n make_v he_o the_o minister_n of_o sin_n or_o that_o he_o have_v procure_v a_o indulgence_n unto_o it_o not_o by_o the_o way_n of_o satisfaction_n and_o pardon_n whereby_o he_o take_v away_o the_o guilt_n of_o it_o from_o the_o church_n but_o by_o take_v from_o it_o its_o nature_n and_o demerit_n so_o as_o that_o what_o be_v so_o original_o shall_v not_o continue_v so_o to_o be_v or_o at_o least_o not_o to_o deserve_v the_o punishment_n it_o be_v first_o threaten_v withal_o 5_o it_o reflect_v on_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n himself_o for_o on_o this_o supposition_n that_o he_o have_v reduce_v his_o law_n into_o that_o state_n and_o order_n as_o to_o be_v satisfy_v by_o a_o observation_n of_o it_o so_o weak_a so_o imperfect_a accompany_v with_o so_o many_o
