he_o prove_v it_o for_o his_o day_n be_v as_o a_o shadow_n that_o pass_v away_o and_o in_o psalm_n 62.9_o take_v in_o man_n of_o high_a and_o low_a degree_n in_o the_o proof_n of_o this_o general_a truth_n sure_o man_n of_o low_a degree_n be_v vanity_n and_o man_n of_o high_a degree_n be_v a_o lie_n to_o be_v lay_v in_o the_o balance_n they_o be_v altogether_o light_a than_o vanity_n the_o vanity_n of_o the_o creature_n be_v a_o subject_n well_o worthy_a the_o study_n of_o a_o wise_a christian_n and_o true_o none_o but_o christ_n our_o wisdom_n can_v give_v we_o light_v into_o this_o vanity_n for_o method_n sake_n we_o will_v draw_v out_o one_o general_a truth_n which_o i_o think_v be_v visible_a in_o this_o scripture_n that_o upon_o true_a discovery_n and_o knowledge_n of_o all_o thing_n under_o the_o sun_n we_o shall_v find_v they_o vanity_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n for_o the_o proof_n of_o this_o truth_n let_v we_o search_v the_o scripture_n and_o our_o own_o experience_n the_o wise_a man_n to_o prove_v this_o truth_n begin_v with_o man_n in_o his_o labour_n in_o his_o first_o chap._n vers_fw-la 3_o 4._o what_o profit_n have_v a_o man_n of_o all_o his_o labour_n under_o the_o sun_n for_o he_o stay_v not_o to_o keep_v any_o fruit_n of_o his_o labour_n but_o pass_v away_o one_o generation_n go_v and_o another_o come_v so_o in_o chap._n 2._o vers_fw-la 22_o 23._o man_n reap_v no_o content_n from_o all_o his_o labour_n under_o the_o sun_n they_o fill_v he_o full_a of_o sorrow_n travel_n and_o grief_n and_o at_o last_o he_o can_v lie_v down_o and_o with_o see_v and_o though_o the_o ear_n do_v he_o be_v yet_o it_o be_v not_o fill_v with_o hear_v the_o creature_n can_v never_o give_v so_o long_o and_o so_o much_o till_o that_o which_o receive_v from_o it_o say_v it_o have_v enough_o though_o it_o give_v object_n to_o the_o eye_n yet_o the_o eye_n want_v more_o object_n than_o it_o can_v give_v and_o though_o it_o offer_v to_o fill_v the_o ear_n yet_o the_o ear_n be_v not_o fill_v with_o all_o that_o it_o can_v give_v there_o be_v no_o new_a thing_n under_o the_o sun_n but_o that_o which_o have_v be_v shall_v be_v and_o that_o which_o lay_v it_o there_o it_o be_v in_o spirit_n at_o rest_n upon_o a_o sick_a bed_n because_o of_o the_o will_n of_o god_n there_o disappointment_n in_o the_o outward_a man_n do_v not_o cease_v upon_o their_o abide_n or_o consume_v true_o form_n or_o no_o form_n can_v give_v no_o good_a testimony_n to_o this_o new_a creature_n i_o judge_v of_o form_n &_o no_o form_n as_o the_o apostle_n of_o circumcision_n and_o uncircumcision_n that_o they_o avail_v nothing_o but_o the_o new_a creature_n and_o i_o believe_v as_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n shall_v increase_v the_o contending_n in_o the_o world_n about_o form_n will_v decrease_v that_o i_o be_o trouble_v at_o be_v this_o when_o man_n be_v rigid_o zealous_a for_o form_n yet_o then_o negligent_a of_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o themselves_o and_o opposite_a to_o it_o in_o other_o especial_o if_o they_o differ_v in_o form_n which_o make_v it_o evident_o to_o appear_v that_o their_o form_n be_v their_o god_n and_o they_o have_v no_o god_n but_o form_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n it_o be_v as_o sad_a if_o not_o more_o sad_a to_o behold_v such_o as_o pretend_v to_o high_a communion_n with_o god_n than_o other_o have_v which_o walk_n in_o the_o use_n of_o form_n and_o yet_o in_o their_o life_n as_o loose_v as_o vain_a and_o as_o empty_a of_o god_n as_o those_o which_o have_v nothing_o but_o form_n that_o i_o contend_v for_o be_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n and_o i_o will_v all_o the_o contention_n in_o the_o world_n be_v swallow_v up_o in_o this_o namely_o who_o shall_v live_v up_o most_o of_o christ_n to_o exceed_v each_o other_o in_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n this_o contention_n will_v kill_v none_o but_o our_o lust_n love_v to_o christ_n saint_n and_o truth_n will_v live_v indeed_o and_o it_o will_v be_v our_o life_n to_o live_v in_o this_o love_n but_o there_o be_v another_o sort_n of_o people_n in_o the_o world_n which_o this_o truth_n inform_v we_o of_o that_o be_v such_o as_o talk_v much_o of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o turn_v that_o grace_n into_o wantonness_n such_o wretch_n do_v never_o spiritual_o understand_v this_o text_n that_o who_o ever_o be_v in_o christ_n be_v a_o new_a creature_n nor_o do_v they_o consider_v how_o they_o engage_v the_o purity_n of_o christ_n to_o discover_v their_o impurity_n the_o apostle_n paul_n in_o rom._n 6._o make_v it_o matter_n of_o abhorrency_n to_o continue_v in_o sin_n upon_o this_o consideration_n because_o grace_n do_v abound_v in_o god_n and_o true_o god_n do_v more_o abhor_v to_o own_v they_o under_o a_o notion_n of_o grace_n be_v not_o deceive_v god_n be_v not_o mock_v he_o will_v make_v his_o word_n appear_v truth_n against_o all_o the_o wretch_n in_o the_o world_n they_o shall_v know_v that_o such_o as_o be_v in_o christ_n they_o be_v new_a creature_n i_o have_v hear_v it_o report_v that_o there_o be_v some_o which_o deny_v the_o scripture_n that_o which_o be_v understand_v by_o the_o title_n of_o the_o old_a and_o new_a testament_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n i_o can_v say_v no_o such_o thing_n know_o but_o sure_o i_o be_o that_o many_o thousand_o which_o acknowledge_v it_o with_o their_o lip_n deny_v it_o with_o their_o life_n and_o that_o in_o this_o one_o text_n that_o if_o any_o man_n be_v in_o christ_n he_o be_v a_o new_a creature_n for_o they_o will_v lay_v claim_n to_o the_o one_o and_o deny_v the_o other_o talk_v of_o their_o interest_n in_o save_v grace_n but_o deny_v his_o sanctify_a grace_n such_o wretch_n as_o these_o bring_v a_o evil_a report_n upon_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o christ_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n it_o be_v glad_a tiding_n be_v the_o proclaim_n of_o christ_n crucify_v as_o the_o gift_n of_o freegrace_n for_o poor_a sinner_n now_o when_o such_o as_o hate_v to_o be_v reform_v talk_n of_o the_o freegrace_n of_o god_n they_o put_v dishonour_n upon_o it_o and_o a_o stumbling-blocke_n before_o weak_a christian_n it_o make_v they_o stagger_v at_o grace_n to_o see_v graceless_a man_n profess_v it_o and_o grace_n in_o truth_n have_v hard_a thought_n of_o many_o and_o be_v less_o esteem_v of_o because_o of_o this_o false_a profession_n of_o grace_n and_o i_o fear_v i_o it_o make_v poor_a legal_a soul_n to_o make_v a_o god_n of_o their_o duty_n when_o they_o see_v these_o vild_a creature_n to_o abuse_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n i_o know_v not_o what_o be_v more_o vild_a than_o this_o to_o live_v in_o sin_n under_o a_o profession_n of_o grace_n these_o be_v sear_v conscience_n indeed_o that_o can_v sin_n and_o name_v it_o grace_n and_o then_o call_v the_o god_n of_o truth_n to_o witness_v to_o that_o lie_n nay_o to_o make_v god_n himself_o a_o liar_n for_o he_o say_v who_o ever_o be_v in_o christ_n be_v a_o new_a creature_n but_o they_o say_v they_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o yet_o be_v old_a creature_n god_n will_v unmask_v this_o hypocrisy_n and_o prove_v himself_o the_o god_n of_o truth_n christ_n have_v no_o fellowship_n with_o the_o unfruitful_a work_n of_o darkness_n such_o as_o be_v in_o christ_n their_o fellowship_n be_v with_o the_o father_n &_o with_o the_o son_n such_o as_o have_v fellowship_n with_o christ_n be_v those_o that_o live_v in_o christ_n and_o christ_n in_o they_o that_o live_v by_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o in_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o holy_a god_n so_o that_o they_o be_v change_v into_o the_o image_n of_o god_n this_o be_v the_o new_a creature_n this_o be_v the_o gracious_a soul_n indeed_o such_o as_o have_v the_o power_n of_o their_o life_n it_o be_v not_o every_o one_o that_o say_v lord_n lord_n shall_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n but_o he_o that_o know_v my_o father_n will_n and_o do_v it_o say_v christ_n it_o be_v grace_n in_o truth_n and_o act_n that_o consist_v with_o union_n and_o communion_n with_o christ_n if_o in_o christ_n then_o a_o new_a creature_n and_o all_o profession_n of_o grace_n without_o the_o new_a creature_n will_v appear_v our_o own_o fancy_n of_o grace_n and_o not_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o truth_n for_o that_o always_o produce_v the_o new_a man_n if_o any_o man_n be_v in_o christ_n he_o be_v a_o new_a creature_n last_o this_o inform_v saint_n indeed_o of_o their_o duty_n and_o privilege_n for_o true_o it_o be_v both_o and_o it_o be_v this_o that_o we_o live_v to_o no_o other_o end_n but_o to_o live_v up_o christ_n who_o be_v our_o life_n and_o if_o christ_n be_v our_o life_n than_o we_o be_v new_a creature_n and_o the_o life_n of_o the_o new_a creature_n be_v to_o live_v up_o christ_n which_o be_v its_o life_n child_n of_o the_o day_n shall_v walk_v as_o such_o in_o the_o light_n of_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o power_n and_o might_n of_o his_o spirit_n it_o be_v the_o apostle_n exhortation_n in_o gal._n 5.25_o if_o we_o live_v in_o the_o spirit_n let_v we_o also_o walk_v in_o the_o spirit_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v it_o be_v not_o only_o
