after_o whaever_n be_v comely_a of_o good_a report_n you_o know_v what_o the_o wise_a man_n say_v a_o man_n that_o be_v in_o reputation_n for_o wisdom_n that_o pass_v for_o a_o wise_a man_n and_o a_o close-walking_a 1._o saint_n a_o little_a folly_n be_v like_o a_o dead_a fly_n in_o the_o box_n of_o ointment_n that_o make_v it_o stink_n by_o how_o much_o the_o more_o the_o lord_n have_v do_v for_o you_o this_o way_n be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o careful_a o_o it_o be_v this_o wisdom_n that_o will_v make_v your_o face_n shine_v brethren_n so_o it_o do_v the_o face_n of_o moses_n and_o 1._o david_n but_o a_o little_a folly_n in_o a_o david_n what_o a_o blemish_n it_o cast_v upon_o it_o and_o what_o a_o reproach_n and_o blemish_n upon_o the_o beautiful_a way_n of_o holiness_n o_o then_o i_o beseech_v you_o brethren_n labour_v to_o cease_v from_o your_o own_o wisdom_n for_o indeed_o this_o be_v folly_n and_o contrary_a to_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n he_o that_o hearken_v to_o counsel_n be_v wise_a it_o be_v a_o sad_a thing_n when_o the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v not_o 15._o advisable_v be_v so_o full_a of_o self-will_n and_o selfwisdom_n that_o they_o can_v cease_v from_o it_o so_o david_n in_o number_v the_o people_n he_o have_v good_a counsel_n give_v he_o though_o by_o a_o man_n far_o enough_o inferior_a to_o himself_o in_o spiritual_n but_o be_v not_o advisable_v and_o what_o a_o blot_n do_v he_o bring_v upon_o himself_o 18._o we_o profess_v to_o give_v up_o our_o will_n and_o wisdom_n to_o he_o and_o yet_o when_o it_o come_v to_o the_o pinch_n many_o time_n we_o must_v have_v our_o will_n and_o we_o must_v have_v our_o own_o contrivance_n go_v forward_o or_o else_o we_o can_v aquiesce_v i_o say_v in_o quietness_n and_o confidence_n shall_v be_v your_o rest_n 5._o but_o you_o will_v not_o again_o then_o beg_v this_o spirit_n of_o wisdom_n more_o earnest_o great_a measure_n of_o it_o for_o it_o be_v he_o that_o give_v wisdom_n to_o walk_v exact_o this_o wisdom_n from_o above_o which_o be_v pure_a and_o peaceable_a and_o gentle_a and_o easy_a to_o he_o entreat_v so_o that_o a_o child_n may_v lead_v such_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n if_o 16._o he_o present_v any_o thing_n of_o light_n and_o god_n to_o they_o and_o then_o brethren_n when_o you_o have_v the_o spirit_n walk_v in_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o power_n of_o this_o spirit_n of_o wisdom_n let_v it_o prevail_v over_o your_o own_o will_n and_o your_o own_o opinion_n of_o your_o own_o way_n subject_a all_o to_o he_o and_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o he_o will_v guide_v you_o by_o his_o counsel_n and_o afterward_o receive_v you_o to_o glory_n thus_o much_o for_o this_o observation_n these_o be_v his_o last_o lecture-sermon_n the_o last_o word_n viz._n redeem_v the_o time_n because_o understand_v they_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o a_o similitude_n as_o the_o parable_n chap._n 24._o 32_o 33._o learn_v a_o parable_n of_o the_o fig-tree_n when_o it_o put_v forth_o leaf_n and_o the_o branch_n be_v yet_o tender_a the_o summer_n be_v nigh_o you_o know_v it_o be_v a_o thing_n familiar_a to_o they_o in_o experience_n so_o likewise_o you_o when_o you_o see_v these_o thing_n come_v to_o pass_v know_v it_o be_v near_o even_o at_o hand_n a_o metaphor_n be_v a_o simile_n contract_v into_o one_o
neither_o of_o they_o that_o be_v strong_a man_n and_o woman_n in_o christ_n nor_o yet_o of_o such_o as_o haply_o natural_a incapacity_n be_v a_o great_a hindrance_n to_o but_o be_v we_o not_o many_o of_o we_o much_o want_v to_o ourselves_o in_o read_v meditate_v on_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n we_o may_v be_v much_o more_o apprehensive_a than_o we_o be_v we_o be_v in_o a_o strait_a indeed_o for_o some_o be_v so_o acute_a that_o we_o can_v scarce_o touch_v light_o enough_o upon_o thing_n lest_o they_o nauseate_n other_o be_v so_o dull_a we_o can_v dwell_v long_o enough_o upon_o they_o almost_o 2._o to_o make_v they_o understand_v something_o well_o this_o be_v the_o first_o argument_n second_o because_o man_n be_v exceed_o slow_a to_o believe_v thing_n o_o fool_n say_v our_o saviour_n and_o slow_a of_o heart_n to_o believe_v the_o thing_n which_o 25._o the_o scripture_n etc._n etc._n concern_v the_o messiah_n how_o he_o must_v be_v reject_v and_o cut_v off_o and_o rise_v again_o the_o three_o day_n may_v he_o not_o upbraid_v our_o congregation_n brethren_n in_o the_o like_a manner_n how_o often_o have_v we_o hear_v the_o same_o thing_n and_o it_o may_v be_v give_v assent_n to_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o same_o but_o yet_o be_v slow_a to_o believe_v and_o this_o argument_n will_v stand_v good_a against_o the_o acute_a hearer_n though_o they_o may_v outrun_v the_o speaker_n haply_o in_o apprehension_n they_o may_v be_v slow-paced_a enough_o in_o believe_v now_o it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v not_o all_o our_o inculcate_a and_o press_v the_o same_o truth_n upon_o man_n that_o can_v work_v their_o heart_n to_o believe_v until_o the_o arm_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v reveal_v to_o they_o 5â—_n yet_o we_o know_v not_o when_o and_o how_o far_o he_o may_v reveal_v his_o arm_n it_o may_v be_v a_o little_a at_o one_o time_n and_o a_o little_a at_o another_o agrippa_n hear_v 28._o paul_n once_o discourse_v of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v almost_o persuade_v haply_o if_o he_o have_v of_o these_o door_n or_o the_o most_o part_n of_o it_o so_o the_o fowl_n of_o the_o air_n the_o evil_a spirit_n they_o steal_v away_o the_o word_n from_o we_o so_o that_o we_o have_v as_o much_o need_n to_o hear_v it_o again_o as_o when_o we_o come_v o_o say_v peter_n as_o long_o as_o i_o live_v i_o will_v put_v you_o in_o remembrance_n to_o 13._o do_v good_a and_o to_o communicate_v forget_v not_o say_v the_o apostle_n no_o question_n they_o have_v be_v teach_v that_o lesson_n again_o and_o again_o and_o yet_o they_o be_v apt_a to_o forget_v and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n go_v over_o it_o again_o to_o they_o to_o put_v they_o in_o remembrance_n four_o it_o be_v requisite_a because_o our_o affection_n be_v so_o dull_a they_o have_v need_v to_o be_v often_o quicken_v therefore_o whet_v the_o word_n upon_o your_o child_n it_o be_v not_o one_o whet_v that_o will_v edge_n a_o dull_a knife_n but_o over_o and_o over_o with_o it_o again_o and_o again_o as_o many_o time_n in_o scripture_n a_o repetition_n of_o a_o thing_n in_o prayer_n in_o preach_v speak_v the_o affection_n of_o he_o that_o deliver_v it_o so_o it_o stir_v the_o affection_n of_o the_o hearer_n phil._n 4._o 4._o say_v the_o apostle_n rejoice_v in_o the_o lord_n always_o and_o before_o again_o i_o say_v rejoice_v be_v that_o a_o tautology_n or_o a_o vain_a repetition_n no_o sure_a the_o apostle_n be_v not_o guilty_a in_o that_o kind_n but_o it_o be_v needful_a to_o stir_v the_o affection_n to_o the_o duty_n our_o heart_n indeed_o be_v like_o so_o many_o dead_a sea_n and_o it_o be_v not_o a_o little_a breath_n once_o upon_o we_o that_o will_v move_v but_o when_o the_o wind_n pass_v often_o and_o strong_o over_o we_o than_o it_o may_v affect_v we_o haply_o the_o word_n be_v therefore_o compare_v to_o the_o word_n of_o the_o wise_a which_o be_v like_o goad_n not_o the_o word_n of_o fool_n who_o be_v no_o orator_n senseless_a and_o know_v not_o what_o belong_v to_o the_o art_n of_o speak_v right_o but_o the_o word_n of_o the_o wise_a be_v like_o goad_n sharp_a and_o they_o be_v to_o be_v often_o use_v we_o be_v like_o ox_n in_o duty_n creature_n that_o will_v often_o need_v to_o be_v prick_v up_o therefore_o the_o metaphor_n be_v use_v therefore_o 11._o say_v the_o apostle_n i_o put_v you_o in_o remembrance_n of_o the_o thing_n you_o know_v before_o and_o be_v establish_v time_n how_o long_o do_v such_o a_o frame_n continue_v upon_o we_o david_n be_v sensible_a how_o fleet_a the_o frame_n of_o our_o heart_n be_v and_o therefore_o though_o himself_o and_o his_o people_n be_v in_o as_o sweet_a a_o frame_n as_o any_o we_o read_v of_o almost_o when_o they_o offer_v with_o a_o perfect_a heart_n willing_o and_o so_o willing_o as_o that_o david_n rejoice_v in_o it_o and_o bless_v the_o lord_n for_o it_o that_o they_o have_v heart_n so_o to_o do_v 17._o this_o be_v a_o precious_a frame_n indeed_o yea_o david_n rejoice_v at_o the_o willingness_n of_o other_o not_o envy_v which_o you_o be_v necessary_o to_o know_v they_o be_v not_o for_o number_v infinite_a and_o you_o will_v easy_o find_v if_o you_o consider_v the_o scripture_n how_o the_o same_o truth_n be_v the_o weakness_n and_o frame_n of_o man_n and_o if_o one_o therefore_o diverse_o dress_v the_o same_o truth_n omne_fw-la tulit_fw-la punctum_fw-la will_v the_o lord_n diverse_o seal_v this_o little_a abide_v with_o we_o what_o pain_n be_v the_o lord_n fain_o to_o take_v with_o we_o line_n upon_o line_n and_o precept_n upon_o precept_n 10._o here_o a_o little_a and_o there_o a_o little_a in_o season_n out_o of_o season_n and_o yet_o brethren_n how_o little_a the_o better_a be_v we_o for_o it_o may_v we_o not_o all_o of_o we_o lay_v our_o hand_n upon_o our_o heart_n be_v it_o not_o they_o loathe_v it_o this_o be_v a_o lust_n which_o put_v their_o mouth_n out_o of_o taste_n and_o so_o far_o as_o that_o they_o prefer_v garlic_n and_o onion_n before_o it_o it_o be_v nothing_o to_o be_v take_v with_o the_o word_n when_o a_o teacher_n be_v as_o one_o that_o play_v skilful_o upon_o a_o instrument_n touch_v every_o string_n and_o in_o such_o a_o manner_n as_o the_o variety_n make_v sweet_a melody_n but_o this_o harp_v upon_o one_o string_n be_v not_o so_o pleasant_a here_o be_v a_o trial_n of_o your_o love_n to_o the_o word_n as_o it_o be_v the_o word_n whether_o in_o its_o nakedness_n and_o simplicity_n you_o can_v love_v it_o and_o though_o you_o have_v nothing_o but_o the_o word_n and_o the_o word_n the_o sincere_a milk_n another_o caution_n shall_v be_v this_o to_o the_o darken_n and_o disquiet_v of_o their_o soul_n sometime_o they_o be_v in_o darkness_n and_o see_v no_o light_n and_o yet_o fear_v the_o name_n of_o the_o 10._o lord_n now_o to_o such_o as_o these_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n will_v arise_v with_o heal_v in_o his_o wing_n but_o second_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n that_o christ_n the_o covenant_n be_v mean_v i_o tell_v you_o before_o but_o for_o a_o reason_n of_o this_o title_n why_o a_o sun_n you_o have_v hear_v at_o large_a but_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n why_o so_o call_v be_v a_o further_a question_n and_o for_o answer_v to_o this_o let_v i_o speak_v a_o few_o word_n first_o one_o reason_n may_v be_v because_o of_o his_o perfection_n there_o shall_v nothing_o be_v want_v in_o because_o in_o he_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n be_v eminent_o conspicuous_a therefore_o he_o may_v be_v call_v the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n some_o imperfect_a footstep_n of_o righteousness_n there_o be_v in_o the_o creature_n of_o holiness_n and_o conformity_n to_o god_n some_o lineament_n of_o his_o image_n but_o very_o naked_a they_o want_v their_o fill_n up_o and_o garnish_v with_o colour_n and_o will_v do_v while_o we_o be_v in_o the_o body_n and_o there_o be_v so_o many_o blot_n and_o blur_n and_o stain_n that_o it_o scarce_o appear_v many_o time_n witness_v the_o choice_a example_n of_o the_o saint_n as_o 〈◊〉_d moses_n if_o you_o look_v on_o he_o at_o the_o water_n of_o meriâ—ah_n you_o will_v scarce_o have_v think_v he_o so_o meek_a a_o man_n and_o so_o david_n in_o come_v to_o be_v a_o servant_n do_v he_o not_o rather_o sanctify_v such_o a_o condition_n and_o relation_n then_o abolish_v it_o second_o then_o take_v it_o for_o spiritual_a liberty_n that_o be_v to_o say_v a_o freedom_n from_o spiritual_a evil_n the_o subjection_n whereunto_o be_v a_o bondage_n to_o the_o poor_a creature_n we_o must_v know_v yet_o further_o that_o we_o may_v take_v it_o either_o in_o a_o large_a or_o in_o a_o more_o restrain_a sense_n in_o a_o more_o restrain_v only_o for_o that_o liberty_n and_o freedom_n which_o the_o saint_n have_v ever_o have_v through_o the_o lord_n jesus_n since_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n be_v preach_v to_o they_o and_o they_o close_v with_o it_o for_o we_o must_v know_v that_o ever_o before_o christ_n come_v in_o the_o flesh_n believer_n believe_v in_o he_o to_o come_v they_o have_v a_o liberty_n through_o he_o as_o to_o the_o main_a part_n of_o it_o and_o necessary_o to_o salvation_n though_o haply_o not_o in_o that_o degree_n that_o now_o ordinary_o believer_n indeed_o have_v that_o freedom_n but_o there_o be_v some_o yoke_n upon_o they_o then_o which_o now_o we_o be_v deliver_v from_o they_o be_v break_v from_o off_o the_o neck_n of_o the_o saint_n yea_o and_o such_o as_o be_v pinch_a yoke_n indeed_o but_o yet_o less_o considerable_a by_o far_o than_o those_o from_o which_o they_o be_v deliver_v and_o set_v free_a so_o that_o now_o we_o see_v there_o be_v a_o large_a liberty_n and_o more_o glorious_a which_o the_o son_n of_o god_n have_v which_o will_v better_a appear_v when_o we_o come_v to_o speak_v to_o the_o part_n of_o it_o only_o this_o i_o think_v good_a to_o premise_v lose_v any_o shall_v think_v that_o liberty_n begin_v only_o when_o christ_n be_v reveal_v in_o the_o flesh_n for_o it_o be_v the_o small_a part_n that_o then_o be_v add_v though_o i_o say_v the_o other_o liberty_n from_o the_o sore_o condemn_v destroy_a bondage_n of_o the_o soul_n they_o have_v before_o haply_o be_v now_o heighten_v to_o believer_n and_o so_o much_o by_o way_n of_o premise_v for_o the_o open_n of_o this_o spiritual_a liberty_n we_o shall_v consider_v 1._o it_o be_v subject_a 2._o its_o cause_n 3._o its_o part_n extensive_a and_o intensive_a if_o we_o may_v so_o speak_v that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o degree_n of_o it_o first_o then_o for_o the_o subject_n of_o this_o liberty_n they_o be_v all_o christian_n that_o be_v so_o indeed_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v christian_a liberty_n not_o only_o from_o christ_n the_o author_n but_o from_o the_o subject_n they_o be_v christian_n believer_n both_o jew_n and_o gentile_n bond_n or_o free_n male_a or_o female_a jerusalem_n say_v the_o apostle_n which_o be_v above_o be_v 24._o free_a which_o be_v the_o mother_n of_o we_o all_o all_o such_o then_o as_o receive_v the_o gospel_n as_o the_o poor_a be_v say_v to_o do_v all_o those_o upon_o who_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n do_v arise_v they_o be_v set_v free_a they_o do_v go_v forth_o for_o the_o partial_a subject_n of_o this_o liberty_n that_o will_v better_o appear_v when_o we_o come_v to_o speak_v of_o the_o part_n of_o this_o liberty_n some_o be_v for_o the_o free_v the_o mind_n some_o the_o will_n some_o the_o conscience_n some_o the_o whole_a man_n but_o of_o this_o afterward_o second_o then_o for_o the_o cause_n of_o this_o liberty_n which_o be_v here_o promise_v we_o shall_v speak_v to_o some_o of_o they_o first_o then_o the_o principal_a efficient_a cause_n be_v the_o father_n son_n and_o spirit_n the_o work_n of_o the_o trinity_n ad_fw-la free_a indeed_o and_o stand_v fast_o in_o the_o liberty_n wherewith_o christ_n have_v make_v you_o 36._o free_a false_a brethren_n come_v to_o spy_v out_o our_o liberty_n which_o we_o have_v in_o to_o be_v ascribe_v to_o the_o lord_n so_o far_o forth_o as_o it_o be_v mere_o vindictive_a or_o a_o inflict_a of_o a_o just_a penalty_n upon_o sinner_n for_o sin_n so_o far_o we_o may_v ascribe_v it_o to_o god_n as_o will_n more_o plain_o appear_v in_o the_o follow_a consideration_n the_o law_n 24._o which_o gender_n to_o bondage_n it_o be_v his_o law_n and_o holy_a and_o just_a and_o good_a forward_o our_o freedom_n this_o part_n of_o the_o truth_n well_o know_v so_o know_v as_o to_o be_v close_v with_o will_v make_v every_o poor_a creature_n free_a you_o shall_v know_v the_o truth_n and_o the_o truth_n shall_v make_v you_o free_a and_o so_o this_o in_o the_o text_n the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n shall_v arise_v 14._o upon_o you_o with_o heal_v in_o his_o wing_n and_o you_o grow_v for_o jesus_n christ_n and_o hezekiah_n his_o pride_n in_o the_o business_n of_o the_o king_n of_o babylon_n how_o it_o tend_v to_o humble_v he_o so_o much_o the_o more_o do_v we_o find_v it_o ignorance_n be_v the_o mother_n of_o devotion_n and_o that_o faith_n be_v better_a define_v by_o ignorance_n then_o by_o knowledge_n but_o the_o holy-ghost_n call_v faith_n knowledge_n by_o his_o knowldege_n shall_v my_o righteous_a servant_n justify_v many_o that_o be_v faith_n sure_a and_o this_o be_v life_n eternal_a to_o know_v thou_o the_o only_a true_a god_n now_o do_v but_o observe_v even_o moses_n in_o 45._o who_o you_o trust_v for_o if_o you_o have_v believe_v moses_n you_o have_v believe_v i_o for_o he_o write_v of_o i_o so_o there_o will_v be_v one_o that_o will_v accuse_v they_o in_o this_o point_n of_o knowledge_n even_o peter_n in_o who_o they_o trust_v so_o the_o apostle_n that_o you_o may_v grow_v up_o in_o he_o speak_v the_o truth_n in_o love_n the_o 15._o speak_v long-suffering_a with_o joy_n so_o the_o wise_a man_n himself_o tell_v we_o a_o wise_a man_n be_v strong_a yea_o a_o man_n of_o understanding_n increase_v 5._o strength_n why_o but_o you_o will_v say_v may_v there_o not_o be_v much_o knowledge_n and_o yet_o little_a grace_n and_o therefore_o be_v this_o too_o necessary_a to_o grow_v in_o knowledge_n i_o answer_v it_o be_v true_a there_o may_v
