that_o they_o will_v lead_v a_o holy_a and_o and_o godly_a life_n answerable_a to_o this_o profession_n and_o gospel_n both_o in_o their_o general_n and_o particular_a calling_n yea_o now_o in_o their_o present_a trouble_n and_o notwithstanding_o any_o other_o they_o may_v mere_a with_o hereafter_o now_o this_o be_v a_o very_a weighty_a building_n therefore_o he_o have_v need_n lay_v a_o to_o god_n but_o in_o vain_a he_o will_v not_o answer_v you_o then_o when_o god_n shall_v cast_v such_o into_o their_o deserve_a place_n how_o shall_v they_o then_o fret_v and_o vex_v themselves_o what_o beast_n be_v we_o that_o we_o do_v not_o yield_v to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o so_o often_o call_v upon_o we_o other_o obey_v and_o they_o be_v well_o o_o that_o we_o have_v profit_v they_o may_v fret_v and_o gnaw_v their_o tongue_n for_o vexation_n but_o to_o no_o purpose_n endeavour_v we_o therefore_o in_o time_n to_o prevent_v this_o thus_o of_o the_o exhortation_n now_o follow_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o exhortation_n lay_v down_o in_o the_o 16_o verse_n because_o it_o be_v write_v be_v you_o holy_a for_o i_o be_o holy_a where_o be_v to_o be_v consider_v 1._o that_o have_v to_o bring_v any_o to_o turn_v from_o their_o sin_n and_o to_o take_v a_o holy_a course_n how_o few_o such_o and_o with_o what_o a_o deal_n of_o pain_n and_o when_o convert_v and_o bring_v to_o a_o love_n of_o holiness_n and_o desire_v to_o please_v god_n yet_o who_o find_v not_o what_o a_o stir_n he_o have_v to_o bring_v himself_o to_o any_o good_a duty_n prayer_n meditation_n examination_n of_o his_o heart_n etc._n etc._n or_o when_o we_o be_v bring_v to_o do_v good_a thing_n yet_o to_o do_v they_o in_o a_o right_a manner_n but_o the_o heart_n will_v be_v go_v especial_o in_o all_o thing_n and_o in_o our_o whole_a conversation_n therefore_o no_o marvel_n though_o the_o holy_a ghost_n dwell_v long_o upon_o it_o 1._o this_o teach_v we_o minister_n in_o weighty_a point_n 1_o to_o dwell_v as_o it_o be_v upon_o they_o and_o not_o slide_v from_o they_o too_o quick_o to_o urge_v they_o again_o and_o again_o question_v their_o heart_n whether_o indeed_o they_o will_v do_v so_o and_o so_o or_o not_o etc._n etc._n 2._o people_n 2._o when_o they_o perceive_v their_o minister_n so_o to_o urge_v such_o and_o such_o a_o point_n 40._o they_o must_v consider_v it_o the_o more_o serious_o so_o when_o we_o read_v any_o thing_n 5._o wherein_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v more_o earnest_a or_o repeat_v it_o often_o as_o to_o search_v and_o examine_v ourselves_o we_o must_v take_v knowledge_n of_o the_o weight_n of_o the_o matter_n and_o of_o our_o own_o dulness_n dwell_v the_o more_o thereon_o in_o our_o observation_n and_o attention_n where_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v earnest_a we_o must_v not_o pass_v it_o slight_o over_o 2._o he_o prove_v it_o by_o scripture_n word_n and_o so_o must_v we_o when_o we_o will_v prove_v any_o thing_n to_o the_o conscience_n for_o god_n word_n be_v the_o judge_n of_o all_o truth_n and_o falshhood_n good_a and_o evil_a it_o be_v the_o golden_a rule_n the_o balance_n of_o the_o sanctuary_n 26._o philosopher_n prove_v thing_n by_o reason_n in_o god_n school_n proof_n must_v be_v from_o the_o scripture_n we_o must_v not_o look_v what_o this_o man_n or_o that_o man_n or_o twenty_o man_n say_v this_o stablish_v not_o the_o 1_o if_o preacher_n allege_v father_n counsel_n schoolman_n etc._n etc._n o_o how_o they_o applaud_v they_o but_o if_o any_o shall_v allege_v scripture_n proper_o and_o plain_o oh_o he_o be_v a_o plain_a homespun_a preacher_n he_o may_v do_v well_o in_o a_o country_n town_n but_o christ_n sheep_n do_v otherwise_o they_o reverence_v and_o adore_v above_o all_o the_o word_n of_o god_n this_o condemn_v the_o papist_n 2._o that_o deal_v most_o treacherous_o and_o will_v not_o have_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v judge_n but_o father_n counsel_n the_o church_n and_o who_o be_v the_o church_n but_o themselves_o and_o the_o head_n of_o counsel_n but_o the_o pope_n and_o so_o upon_o the_o point_n the_o pope_n be_v the_o church_n and_o so_o its_o like_a enough_o to_o go_v well_o on_o their_o side_n and_o in_o their_o counsel_n who_o be_v any_o thing_n but_o the_o pope_n and_o his_o consistory_n as_o he_o will_v have_v every_o thing_n so_o it_o shall_v be_v as_o in_o their_o last_o council_n of_o trent_n which_o they_o so_o magnify_v as_o the_o most_o sacred_a assembly_n that_o ever_o be_v which_o indeed_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o conspiracy_n of_o traitor_n against_o the_o crown_n and_o dignity_n of_o christ_n jesus_n and_o his_o truth_n there_o such_o be_v pick_v as_o be_v fast_o to_o the_o pope_n and_o the_o religion_n of_o rome_n and_o such_o as_o be_v swear_v to_o be_v true_a thereto_o and_o when_o some_o few_o speak_v somewhat_o more_o bold_o in_o some_o thing_n than_o be_v well_o like_v of_o they_o be_v quick_o pack_v out_o and_o this_o charge_n they_o the_o worse_a of_o any_o 1_o because_o of_o their_o affliction_n or_o conclude_v they_o to_o be_v bad_a man_n and_o hypocrite_n which_o be_v the_o fault_n of_o job_n friend_n and_o of_o the_o hate_a esau_n come_v twelve_o duke_n the_o fatness_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o the_o dew_n of_o heaven_n be_v but_o a_o reprobate_n portion_n the_o legacy_n of_o ishmael_n nay_o no_o worse_a sign_n then_o to_o prosper_v in_o a_o ill_a course_n 3._o we_o must_v not_o dislike_v ourselves_o for_o our_o affliction_n 3_o it_o be_v a_o argument_n of_o god_n love_n 6._o and_o not_o of_o his_o hatred_n who_o he_o love_v he_o chasten_v and_o they_o be_v bastard_n that_o be_v without_o affliction_n to_o have_v affliction_n and_o to_o profit_v thereby_o be_v the_o sign_n of_o a_o happy_a man_n 4._o we_o must_v prepare_v for_o affliction_n 4._o not_o dream_v for_o ease_n or_o continuance_n of_o peace_n but_o look_v for_o trouble_n in_o this_o valley_n of_o tear_n they_o be_v the_o better_o bear_v when_o they_o be_v look_v for_o and_o be_v the_o more_o grievous_a when_o they_o come_v unexpected_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o prosperity_n its_o good_a to_o think_v of_o affliction_n as_o in_o health_n how_o we_o shall_v do_v if_o sore_o or_o long_a sickness_n or_o pain_n come_v upon_o we_o so_o in_o wealth_n of_o poverty_n while_o we_o enjoy_v our_o liberty_n of_o imprisonment_n and_o banishment_n yea_o after_o our_o affliction_n we_o be_v to_o look_v for_o another_o if_o we_o be_v spare_v for_o a_o while_n we_o must_v take_v it_o for_o a_o advantage_n and_o labour_n to_o be_v better_o prepare_v against_o it_o come_v 5._o we_o must_v bear_v they_o patient_o 5._o as_o be_v of_o god_n they_o come_v not_o only_o from_o he_o that_o have_v sovereignty_n over_o we_o but_o from_o the_o hand_n of_o a_o merciful_a father_n for_o our_o good_a they_o be_v far_o less_o than_o our_o desert_n or_o than_o other_o have_v have_v and_o we_o have_v many_o comfort_n mingle_v therewith_o 6._o we_o must_v bear_v they_o thankful_o 6._o as_o whereby_o we_o be_v further_v in_o holiness_n hereby_o we_o be_v wasâ—ed_v and_o purge_v the_o cross_n be_v physic_n though_o not_o toothsome_a 9_o yet_o wholesome_a we_o thank_v and_o reward_v the_o physician_n for_o loathsome_a pill_n and_o potion_n that_o have_v even_o for_o the_o time_n make_v we_o sick_a at_o the_o heart_n as_o be_v the_o mean_n of_o our_o recovery_n our_o fault_n be_v that_o we_o look_v upon_o our_o trouble_n not_o to_o the_o benefit_n that_o come_v thereby_o our_o great_a loss_n be_v oftentimes_o our_o great_a gain_n 7._o we_o must_v bear_v they_o joyful_o 7._o in_o respect_n of_o the_o eternal_a happiness_n and_o immortal_a glory_n we_o shall_v be_v short_o bring_v to_o because_o we_o look_v not_o at_o this_o end_n we_o be_v so_o unwilling_a to_o undergo_v trouble_n as_o one_o that_o will_v go_v over_o a_o water_n without_o fear_n must_v fasten_v his_o eye_n on_o the_o shore_n over_o against_o he_o so_o must_v we_o in_o affliction_n fix_v our_o eye_n on_o heaven_n 8._o if_o the_o child_n of_o god_n get_v not_o to_o heaven_n but_o through_o many_o sorrow_n 8._o and_o be_v often_o so_o grievous_o afflict_v in_o this_o life_n 18._o what_o shall_v then_o become_v of_o the_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a 12._o have_v those_o be_v chastened_a with_o rod_n and_o shall_v not_o these_o be_v torment_v with_o scourge_n those_o have_v be_v afflict_v for_o a_o time_n that_o they_o may_v live_v for_o ever_o and_o not_o die_v eternal_o these_o shall_v perish_v eternal_o in_o hell_n torment_n if_o they_o that_o in_o hell_n by_o his_o suffering_n for_o we_o and_o from_o reproachful_a suffering_n that_o we_o may_v have_v have_v for_o some_o foul_a offence_n in_o this_o world_n and_o have_v turn_v they_o into_o a_o few_o glorious_a suffering_n for_o his_o name_n 4._o consider_v he_o that_o endure_v such_o contradiction_n of_o sinner_n against_o himself_o 4._o lest_o you_o be_v weary_v and_o faint_a in_o your_o mind_n 3._o consider_v who_o he_o be_v and_o what_o thou_o be_v and_o it_o will_v much_o take_v away_o the_o bitterness_n of_o affliction_n for_o you_o so_o some_o read_v even_o for_o servant_n for_o the_o mean_a with_o he_o be_v no_o respect_n of_o person_n mean_a no_o rich_a nor_o poor_a bond_n nor_o free_a in_o christ_n the_o one_o have_v as_o good_a right_n as_o the_o other_o nay_o though_o god_n have_v some_o of_o all_o yet_o most_v of_o the_o mean_a be_v christ_n 5._o they_o receive_v the_o gospel_n this_o may_v make_v the_o mean_a of_o the_o world_n to_o bear_v their_o condition_n the_o more_o patient_o use._n and_o comfortable_o they_o have_v part_n in_o christ_n if_o fault_n be_v not_o in_o themselves_o and_o may_v be_v heir_n of_o grace_n but_o for_o the_o most_o part_n the_o poor_a of_o all_o exclude_v themselves_o and_o i_o know_v not_o how_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n go_v out_o heavy_o against_o they_o leave_v we_o a_o example_n etc._n etc._n we_o must_v not_o set_v christ_n before_o we_o and_o consider_v he_o as_o a_o mediator_n and_o saviour_n only_o imitation_n but_o as_o a_o pattern_n and_o example_n to_o follow_v and_o that_o a_o most_o perfect_a may_v move_v we_o to_o distrust_v and_o put_v we_o out_o of_o comfort_n be_v accomplish_v temptation_n that_o be_v both_o suffer_v and_o overcome_v by_o they_o hence_o note_n that_o god_n lay_v no_o temptation_n on_o he_o but_o he_o enable_v they_o to_o overcome_v it_o they_o have_v no_o power_n of_o their_o own_o but_o by_o his_o they_o be_v able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n yea_o even_o such_o
