doctor_n definition_n of_o a_o synod_n do_v by_o ecclesiastical_a person_n mean_v the_o clergy_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o certain_a that_o the_o doctor_n intend_v so_o except_o only_o of_o synod_n call_v by_o christian_a prince_n but_o rather_o these_o member_n of_o the_o church_n under_o heathen_a power_n must_v be_v the_o ecclesiastical_a person_n convene_v in_o synod_n under_o they_o without_o any_o distinction_n of_o order_n or_o authority_n among_o they_o and_o if_o we_o will_v but_o add_v one_o pastor_n among_o they_o here_o we_o have_v the_o true_a form_n of_o a_o independent_a church_n or_o congregation_n which_o be_v its_o own_o constant_a synod_n at_o all_o meeting_n only_o the_o independent_a principle_n claim_v a_o divine_a right_n and_o rely_v not_o alone_o upon_o mere_a humane_a inauthoritative_a prudence_n and_o so_o be_v near_a to_o truth_n and_o reason_n than_o the_o doctor_n be_v but_o if_o the_o doctor_n be_v principle_n be_v true_a that_o such_o synod_n be_v convention_n of_o church-member_n upon_o prudence_n only_o without_o any_o inherent_a right_n or_o authority_n wherein_o they_o be_v to_o give_v the_o insidel_n power_n the_o least_o offence_n that_o may_v be_v i_o doubt_v that_o prudence_n will_v oblige_v they_o not_o to_o convene_v at_o all_o for_o certain_o we_o be_v not_o in_o prudence_n to_o give_v insidel_n power_n or_o any_o person_n whatsoever_o any_o needless_a offence_n at_o all_o but_o certain_o subject_n have_v no_o authority_n to_o convene_v yet_o convening_n against_o the_o law_n of_o civil_a power_n do_v incur_v their_o great_a offence_n which_o natural_a reason_n can_v prompt_v man_n to_o for_o if_o christian_n shall_v be_v call_v by_o such_o infidel_n power_n to_o account_v for_o such_o prohibit_v convention_n by_o what_o authority_n they_o do_v such_o thing_n if_o they_o shall_v set_v forth_o a_o good_a divine_a authority_n this_o will_v be_v a_o good_a though_o not_o perhaps_o a_o successul_n plea_n but_o if_o they_o shall_v say_v we_o have_v no_o authority_n for_o it_o but_o only_o natural_a reason_n and_o prudence_n how_o can_v that_o direct_v a_o man_n to_o disobey_v law_n which_o destroy_v no_o man_n then_o they_o have_v natural_a reason_n they_o have_v natural_a right_n and_o if_o natural_a right_n natural_a authority_n to_o convene_v for_o their_o public_a conduct_n and_o that_o be_v a_o good_a plea_n against_o the_o law_n of_o infidel_n power_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a if_o they_o have_v no_o authority_n so_o to_o do_v they_o have_v no_o right_n and_o if_o no_o right_n no_o reason_n and_o if_o no_o reason_n how_o can_v this_o be_v do_v without_o offence_n against_o the_o civil_a power_n that_o forbid_v it_o and_o have_v just_o right_o indeed_o to_o forbid_v all_o assembly_n original_n civil_a society_n not_o to_o devour_v its_o original_n civil_a power_n be_v therefore_o superinduce_v at_o last_o upon_o all_o the_o other_o substrate_a form_n of_o society_n not_o to_o destroy_v and_o devour_v but_o to_o defend_v they_o to_o the_o common_a felicity_n except_o we_o shall_v think_v it_o the_o most_o unnatural_a monster_n make_v to_o devour_v its_o own_o parent_n and_o original_n and_o as_o to_o the_o law_n and_o right_n mankind_n universal_o have_v in_o matrinonial_a oeconomical_a fraternal_a amicable_a and_o factoral_a communication_n and_o society_n no_o man_n do_v or_o will_v doubt_v but_o that_o they_o be_v exempt_a from_o all_o right_n of_o extinction_n by_o civil_a society_n which_o can_v stand_v or_o exist_v but_o upon_o those_o fundamental_o and_o can_v it_o be_v then_o imaginable_a that_o it_o have_v a_o great_a right_n of_o dominion_n over_o the_o ecclesiastical_a society_n with_o god_n which_o be_v the_o immediate_a unitive_n in_o this_o life_n between_o god_n and_o we_o and_o so_o a_o medium_n to_o a_o everlasting_a happiness_n in_o another_o be_v the_o great_a end_n on_o this_o side_n heaven_n for_o which_o we_o be_v first_o create_v and_o for_o which_o the_o other_o society_n next_o consequent_a upon_o it_o be_v design_v matrimonial_a society_n be_v for_o the_o propagation_n of_o issue_n oeconomical_a for_o the_o government_n of_o there_o and_o other_o minor_n and_o servant_n in_o it_o the_o coordinate_a for_o common_a beneficence_n and_o mutual_a support_n here_o but_o all_o that_o those_o son_n of_o man_n may_v hereby_o subsist_v to_o the_o communion_n with_o god_n here_o as_o a_o pledge_n of_o a_o near_a fruition_n of_o he_o in_o a_o state_n of_o eternity_n and_o this_o general_a consideration_n that_o all_o these_o form_n of_o society_n be_v god_n ordinance_n and_o of_o these_o the_o religious_a society_n with_o god_n the_o first_o in_o nature_n diguity_n and_o time_n it_o can_v be_v imagine_v that_o god_n shall_v be_v divide_v against_o himself_o in_o set_v up_o ordinance_n against_o ordinance_n and_o the_o mean_a and_o the_o latter_a against_o the_o first_o and_o high_a other_o of_o perpetnity_n in_o they_o all_o and_o hereupon_o it_o be_v that_o religion_n in_o general_n though_o corrupt_v and_o disguise_v have_v yet_o continue_v among_o all_o nation_n as_o perpetual_a and_o universal_a as_o the_o other_o society_n and_o carry_v the_o most_o public_a preeminence_n as_o be_v the_o presume_a mean_n of_o a_o divine_a society_n and_o this_o not_o by_o the_o bare_a policy_n of_o secular_a power_n since_o perhaps_o in_o prince_n court_n it_o have_v ever_o have_v the_o least_o estimation_n and_o true_a religion_n be_v what_o the_o lust_n of_o man_n especial_o
