or_o how_o just_a a_o claim_n he_o may_v make_v to_o be_v supreme_a head_n of_o the_o church_n the_o second_o part_n of_o the_o survey_v of_o the_o pope_n supremacy_n which_o be_v a_o proof_n of_o his_o practice_n now_o that_o it_o plain_o appear_v in_o the_o first_o part_n of_o this_o treatise_n to_o they_o that_o do_v not_o wink_n with_o their_o eye_n against_o the_o truth_n that_o this_o supremacy_n that_o the_o bishop_n of_o rome_n most_o prowde_o abuse_v have_v not_o any_o ground_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o be_v see_v partly_o by_o the_o weakness_n of_o their_o own_o argument_n and_o partly_o because_o the_o father_n be_v assemble_v together_o in_o their_o general_a council_n some_o of_o they_o more_o than_o four_o hundred_o and_o fifty_o year_n after_o christ_n have_v teach_v we_o the_o contrary_a it_o be_v necessary_a for_o the_o better_a understanding_n of_o this_o matter_n yea_o for_o the_o more_o detestation_n of_o their_o unjust_a authority_n that_o something_o be_v say_v of_o the_o second_o part_n of_o this_o treatise_n which_o be_v a_o proof_n or_o examination_n of_o the_o pope_n practice_n but_o herein_o i_o must_v consider_v of_o two_o point_n first_o how_o and_o by_o what_o mean_n they_o get_v unto_o that_o high_a estate_n wherein_o now_o they_o be_v second_o after_o what_o manner_n they_o have_v use_v themselves_o in_o the_o same_o in_o few_o word_n how_o they_o have_v rule_v and_o because_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v not_o sudden_o or_o in_o one_o instant_a advance_v to_o this_o place_n of_o excessive_a pride_n and_o insatiable_a ambition_n wherein_o she_o now_o challenge_v rule_n and_o dominion_n over_o all_o that_o profess_v christianity_n it_o will_v not_o be_v amiss_o but_o a_o thing_n very_o pertinent_a to_o this_o my_o purpose_n to_o see_v by_o what_o step_v the_o pope_n have_v come_v to_o such_o height_n &_o by_o what_o practice_n he_o have_v attain_v to_o such_o honour_n whereas_o therefore_o the_o godly_a father_n of_o the_o primitive_a church_n do_v many_o time_n stand_v in_o need_n of_o the_o help_n or_o counsel_n need_n or_o comfort_n of_o the_o good_a bishop_n of_o rome_n that_o be_v in_o their_o time_n and_o as_o occasion_n fall_v out_o be_v force_v sometime_o to_o flee_v to_o they_o for_o succour_n who_o also_o find_v relief_n at_o their_o hand_n very_o often_o the_o age_n succeed_v do_v interpret_v this_o charitable_a affection_n and_o performance_n of_o christian_n duty_n in_o these_o godly_a bishop_n of_o rome_n to_o be_v not_o so_o much_o token_n of_o the_o love_n towards_o all_o as_o of_o their_o power_n over_o all_o and_o yet_o a_o man_n may_v be_v as_o good_a as_o he_o will_v to_o they_o over_o who_o he_o have_v no_o power_n at_o al._n although_o therefore_o we_o neither_o can_v nor_o will_v deny_v that_o which_o the_o author_n of_o the_o apology_n for_o the_o english_a seminary_n do_v so_o confident_o pronounce_v that_o the_o famous_a father_n call_v for_o aid_n comfort_n and_o counsel_n in_o their_o distress_n of_o the_o bishop_n of_o rome_n yet_o just_o we_o may_v and_o for_o the_o truths_n sake_n we_o must_v affirm_v that_o this_o seek_v for_o these_o cause_n to_o the_o bishop_n of_o rome_n do_v not_o prove_v he_o to_o have_v authority_n over_o all_o but_o only_o that_o at_o such_o time_n he_o have_v better_a mean_n to_o help_v the_o distress_a than_o they_o that_o seek_v unto_o he_o have_v to_o relieve_v themselves_o but_o many_o time_n the_o godly_a be_v force_v to_o fly_v for_o aid_n as_o these_o man_n do_v who_o the_o apology_n name_v as_o cypr._n atha_n chrys_n aug._n basil_n jerom_n miletius_n &_o theod._n to_o man_n worse_o they_o themselves_o as_o jacob_n to_o laban_n from_o the_o wrath_n of_o esau_n and_o david_n to_o the_o philistine_n to_o avoid_v saâ—â—s_n rage_n and_o joseph_n with_o christ_n to_o escape_v the_o bloody_a hand_n of_o herod_n go_v into_o egypt_n 14._o but_o if_o any_o man_n desire_v more_o particular_o to_o be_v inform_v in_o y_z e_z special_a cause_n that_o move_v these_o godly_a man_n to_o make_v suit_n to_o the_o b._n of_o rome_n let_v he_o read_v that_o learned_a answer_n that_o bilson_n have_v make_v unto_o the_o say_a apology_n &_o he_o be_v too_o wilful_a if_o he_o be_v not_o satisfy_v for_o this_o point_n now_o some_o b._n of_o rome_n though_o otherwise_o good_a man_n be_v pufe_v up_o with_o some_o proud_a conceit_n of_o their_o authority_n when_o they_o see_v such_o famous_a and_o godly_a man_n be_v drive_v to_o seek_v for_o their_o help_n as_o it_o may_v appear_v by_o their_o own_o word_n if_o they_o be_v their_o word_n which_o go_v abroad_o in_o their_o name_n for_o their_o epistle_n and_o decree_n as_o damasus_n in_o his_o four_o epistle_n write_v unto_o prosper_v the_o b._n of_o the_o first_o seat_n in_o numidia_n 1._o and_o other_o bishop_n commend_v they_o that_o in_o all_o matter_n that_o may_v be_v doubtful_a they_o refer_v themselves_o to_o he_o 1._o as_o to_o the_o head_n to_o give_v they_o answer_v and_o it_o be_v no_o great_a marvel_n though_o damasus_n will_v write_v or_o speak_v much_o for_o the_o dignity_n of_o his_o place_n for_o come_v to_o the_o which_o he_o do_v strive_v even_o to_o the_o death_n of_o a_o great_a number_n of_o christian_n council_n siricius_n then_o come_v next_o after_o he_o who_o take_v upon_o he_o
