see_v or_o know_v and_o this_o vain_a imagination_n prove_v a_o fatal_a and_o mischievous_a snare_n to_o a_o great_a many_o for_o because_o they_o may_v live_v long_o as_o they_o think_v they_o will_v not_o trouble_v themselves_o betimes_o to_o prepare_v to_o die_v though_o it_o be_v as_o true_a that_o they_o may_v not_o live_v long_o they_o set_v the_o practice_n of_o religion_n and_o the_o concern_v of_o their_o soul_n aside_o for_o the_o present_a because_o they_o shall_v have_v as_o they_o suppose_v time_n enough_o to_o mind_v they_o hereafter_o they_o apply_v themselves_o whole_o to_o spend_v they_o squander_v away_o and_o lose_v much_o from_o their_o main_n concern_v and_o with_o their_o time_n they_o lose_v eternity_n and_o their_o soul_n too_o their_o time_n be_v spend_v and_o their_o day_n of_o salvation_n be_v over_o before_o they_o have_v secure_v and_o wrought_v out_o their_o salvation_n and_o death_n snatch_v many_o of_o they_o away_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o their_o worldly_a care_n and_o pleasure_n and_o so_o they_o be_v undo_v for_o ever_o to_o meet_v with_o and_o cure_v if_o it_o may_v be_v this_o error_n i_o shall_v insist_v a_o little_a upon_o these_o word_n of_o solomon_n wherein_o he_o intimate_v the_o unreasonableness_n and_o folly_n of_o delay_v to_o repent_v and_o be_v religious_a till_o old_a age_n though_o it_o be_v suppose_v that_o we_o may_v or_o though_o it_o can_v be_v certain_a that_o we_o shall_v live_v to_o old_a age._n we_o may_v reckon_v that_o the_o latter_a part_n of_o this_o verse_n be_v a_o reason_n and_o argument_n to_o enforce_v his_o advice_n in_o the_o former_a part_n of_o it_o and_o that_o his_o meaning_n be_v this_o remember_v now_o thy_o creator_n in_o the_o day_n of_o thy_o youth_n because_o the_o latter_a end_n of_o a_o long_a life_n will_v be_v evil_a day_n and_o such_o as_o you_o shall_v say_v i_o have_v no_o pleasure_n in_o they_o to_o be_v religious_a in_o youth_n will_v be_v the_o best_a preparation_n against_o the_o evil_a day_n to_o come_v and_o in_o those_o day_n you_o will_v need_v those_o consolation_n and_o advantage_n which_o a_o religious_a and_o virtuous_a course_n that_o have_v be_v before_o they_o will_v then_o afford_v many_o other_o argument_n be_v common_o insist_v upon_o by_o those_o that_o handle_v this_o text_n to_o persuade_v young_a person_n to_o mind_n may_v run_v to_o it_o and_o this_o bring_v they_o into_o poverty_n and_o that_o into_o the_o sin_n which_o it_o usual_o tempt_v man_n to_o and_o so_o they_o fall_v into_o ruin_n and_o misery_n pleasure_n be_v too_o luscious_a a_o thing_n common_o for_o they_o who_o be_v so_o little_o teach_v to_o govern_v themselves_o in_o it_o as_o they_o be_v who_o spend_v their_o time_n in_o labour_n and_o the_o less_o they_o have_v of_o it_o beyond_o necessary_a refreshment_n usual_o the_o wise_a and_o the_o happy_a they_o be_v and_o if_o such_o person_n make_v the_o lord_n day_n a_o religious_a rest_n only_o this_o will_v sufficient_o relieve_v they_o after_o their_o labour_n will_v keep_v they_o out_o of_o the_o snare_n of_o the_o devil_n it_o will_v maintain_v and_o keep_v up_o a_o spirit_n of_o industry_n and_o diligence_n in_o they_o and_o will_v render_v they_o much_o more_o ready_a and_o willing_a to_o return_v to_o the_o duty_n of_o their_o worldly_a calling_n than_o they_o be_v common_o apt_a to_o be_v after_o a_o long_a and_o licentious_a enjoyment_n of_o worldly_a pleasure_n if_o this_o practice_n be_v set_v up_o in_o the_o family_n of_o our_o nobility_n and_o gentry_n it_o will_v in_o all_o likelihood_n mighty_o increase_v in_o they_o all_o virtue_n and_o piety_n and_o by_o consequence_n true_a greatness_n happiness_n and_o honour_n i_o earnest_o recommend_v this_o book_n to_o the_o gentry_n also_o to_o be_v distribute_v by_o they_o among_o their_o poor_a tenant_n in_o the_o country_n village_n where_o i_o know_v such_o book_n to_o be_v exceed_o want_v let_v they_o that_o labour_n to_o improve_v your_o estate_n and_o to_o maintain_v you_o in_o ease_n and_o plenty_n receive_v some_o kindness_n from_o you_o and_o if_o they_o be_v worthy_a to_o do_v so_o i_o suppose_v you_o can_v think_v upon_o the_o matter_n but_o you_o must_v soon_o determine_v that_o what_o may_v be_v a_o kindness_n to_o their_o soul_n be_v of_o great_a importance_n with_o the_o general_a recovery_n and_o increase_n of_o sensible_a powerful_a religion_n upon_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n how_o much_o good_a how_o much_o happiness_n will_v follow_v to_o the_o whole_a nation_n this_o will_v do_v more_o than_o all_o dispute_v to_o bring_v we_o to_o one_o mind_n in_o religion_n to_o cure_v schism_n and_o heresy_n and_o difference_n of_o opinion_n and_o to_o allay_v those_o animosity_n contention_n and_o emulation_n among_o we_o which_o be_v the_o consequence_n of_o they_o if_o we_o be_v all_o better_a christian_n there_o will_v be_v more_o obedience_n to_o the_o law_n and_o order_n of_o the_o church_n and_o the_o state_n and_o less_o dispute_v of_o they_o and_o we_o shall_v be_v better_a subject_n and_o better_a neighbour_n and_o the_o common_a cause_n of_o our_o divide_v into_o so_o many_o separate_a and_o distinct_a interest_n will_v be_v remove_v the_o world_n ever_o have_v find_v and_o ever_o will_v find_v it_o true_a that_o make_v up_o a_o course_n for_o the_o whole_a year_n for_o which_o i_o shall_v choose_v such_o subject_n as_o the_o necessity_n of_o these_o time_n do_v chief_o require_v only_o these_o thing_n i_o think_v fit_a to_o say_v of_o they_o that_o as_o this_o volume_n be_v design_v and_o direct_v mere_o to_o serve_v and_o promote_v true_a and_o pure_a religion_n without_o any_o concern_n for_o a_o worldly_a business_n in_o a_o word_n those_o thought_n which_o be_v loose_a and_o undirect_v which_o do_v no_o way_n concern_v our_o duty_n or_o which_o do_v impertinent_o divert_v we_o from_o present_a duty_n they_o come_v under_o the_o name_n of_o vain_a thought_n and_o these_o be_v they_o which_o david_n hate_v together_o with_o by_o consequence_n that_o vain_a rove_a inconsiderate_a disposition_n of_o mind_n which_o produce_v they_o thus_o much_o may_v suffice_v to_o show_v distinct_o what_o it_o be_v the_o psalmist_n speak_v of_o the_o next_o part_n of_o our_o business_n be_v to_o justify_v this_o good_a man_n hatred_n of_o this_o unhappy_a disposition_n of_o mind_n and_o these_o exercise_n of_o it_o the_o reason_n of_o which_o his_o hatred_n of_o they_o he_o intimate_v and_o indulge_v a_o rove_a unfixed_a thought_n they_o allow_v and_o follow_v all_o the_o wild_a freak_n of_o the_o imagination_n and_o this_o be_v the_o admire_a wit_n of_o our_o time_n but_o the_o imagination_n be_v the_o wild_a and_o most_o ungovernable_a and_o dangerous_a faculty_n in_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n and_o it_o can_v choose_v but_o be_v very_o unhappy_a for_o any_o man_n to_o indulge_v it_o and_o give_v himself_o up_o to_o follow_v it_o such_o as_o do_v so_o be_v common_o lawless_a in_o their_o opinion_n and_o manner_n they_o be_v not_o capable_a of_o any_o fix_a principle_n or_o of_o a_o steady_a course_n of_o action_n and_o by_o consequence_n they_o can_v set_v themselves_o to_o any_o useful_a or_o creditable_a way_n of_o live_v hence_o we_o often_o see_v the_o great_a wit_n of_o the_o time_n good_a for_o nothing_o they_o can_v squander_v away_o their_o time_n their_o health_n or_o a_o estate_n but_o can_v get_v any_o good_a or_o do_v any_o and_o doubtless_o to_o be_v thus_o a_o wit_n be_v to_o be_v a_o fool._n the_o inconsiderate_a and_o wander_a disposition_n of_o mind_n be_v a_o great_a hindrance_n of_o all_o the_o improvement_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o of_o furnish_v it_o for_o honourable_a and_o good_a action_n a_o man_n under_o the_o power_n of_o this_o can_v never_o study_v his_o duty_n careful_o can_v learn_v or_o understand_v the_o law_n and_o rule_n of_o the_o several_a virtue_n therefore_o he_o know_v not_o how_o or_o what_o it_o be_v to_o do_v well_o he_o can_v never_o serious_o ponder_v and_o deliberate_o consider_v the_o motive_n and_o inducement_n to_o do_v well_o and_o therefore_o these_o have_v no_o force_n upon_o he_o and_o then_o he_o must_v needs_o live_v a_o wild_a and_o ungoverned_a life_n he_o can_v be_v religious_a and_o another_o receive_v no_o benefit_n at_o all_o by_o they_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o the_o one_o use_v they_o with_o design_n to_o improve_v by_o they_o and_o with_o careful_a application_n of_o his_o mind_n to_o the_o obtain_v this_o end_n the_o other_o have_v no_o care_n or_o endeavour_n about_o this_o matter_n his_o rove_a and_o vain_a imagination_n leave_v no_o room_n for_o better_a thought_n they_o do_v not_o give_v he_o leave_v to_o attend_v to_o and_o consider_v

of_o truth_n and_o faithfulness_n towards_o our_o neighbour_n this_o be_v a_o design_n unworthy_a of_o the_o holy_a jesus_n this_o have_v not_o be_v to_o glorify_v the_o father_n and_o how_o can_v it_o be_v but_o high_o displease_v to_o impute_v to_o he_o such_o a_o design_n as_o this_o opinion_n and_o practice_n must_v be_v reckon_v to_o do_v and_o yet_o further_o this_o be_v contrary_a to_o
