some_o way_n or_o other_o it_o be_v fit_a for_o we_o to_o show_v our_o dislike_n and_o indignation_n against_o the_o sin_n of_o other_o especial_o against_o gross_a and_o notorious_a or_o open_a sin_n by_o which_o god_n be_v much_o dishonour_v it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o be_v offend_v at_o such_o sin_n in_o other_o but_o to_o show_v ourselves_o displease_v and_o this_o we_o be_v to_o do_v for_o a_o twofold_a end_n or_o reason_n 1._o to_o testify_v hereby_o our_o zeal_n for_o god_n glory_n 2._o that_o by_o this_o mean_v we_o may_v bring_v the_o party_n offend_v to_o the_o sight_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o consequent_o to_o shame_n and_o repentance_n for_o the_o same_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a observe_v 2_o observe_v 2._o public_a fault_n and_o offence_n may_v and_o aught_o to_o be_v athanasius_n and_o other_o who_o withstand_v the_o arian_n heresy_n and_o labour_v the_o reformation_n of_o the_o church_n in_o their_o time_n etc._n etc._n so_o luther_n melanthon_n calvin_n etc._n assume_v to_o himself_o as_o he_o have_v do_v once_o before_o thereby_o to_o declare_v and_o show_v himself_o to_o be_v indeed_o the_o true_a messiah_n and_o absolute_a king_n and_o high_a priest_n of_o the_o church_n who_o office_n be_v to_o reform_v the_o corrupt_a state_n of_o the_o church_n vide_fw-la danaei_n quaest_n where_o note_n that_o this_o special_a and_o extraordinary_a fact_n of_o our_o saviour_n be_v no_o warrant_n at_o all_o for_o ordinary_a man_n or_o private_a person_n without_o a_o call_v to_o undertake_v the_o public_a reformation_n of_o abuse_n in_o the_o church_n much_o less_o do_v this_o warrant_n the_o pope_n or_o his_o clergy_n to_o usurp_v temporal_a power_n to_o punish_v offender_n in_o body_n good_n etc._n etc._n as_o the_o rhemist_n teach_v upon_o joh._n 2._o so_o much_o in_o way_n of_o clear_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o word_n now_o follow_v the_o instruction_n from_o they_o where_o i_o will_v speak_v of_o three_o thing_n 1._o of_o the_o abuse_n or_o disorder_v themselves_o which_o our_o saviour_n here_o find_v in_o the_o temple_n viz._n buy_v and_o sell_v and_o money-changing_a etc._n etc._n 2._o of_o our_o saviour_n special_a and_o extraordinary_a fact_n in_o purge_v the_o temple_n from_o these_o abuse_n by_o cast_v out_o the_o buyer_n and_o seller_n etc._n etc._n 3._o of_o the_o manner_n of_o his_o do_v this_o 1._o with_o extraordinary_a power_n and_o authority_n so_o as_o none_o dare_v to_o resist_v he_o but_o all_o give_v place_n 2._o with_o great_a zeal_n and_o indignation_n against_o these_o abuse_n which_o he_o show_v both_o by_o his_o violent_a and_o forcible_a drive_v out_o of_o the_o buyer_n and_o seller_n and_o overthrow_v the_o table_n etc._n etc._n as_o also_o by_o his_o strictness_n and_o unpartial_a deal_n in_o this_o work_n of_o reformation_n spare_v no_o abuse_n but_o reform_v all_o not_o suffer_v so_o much_o as_o a_o common_a vessel_n to_o be_v carry_v through_o the_o temple_n observe_v 1_o of_o the_o first_o observe_v 1._o in_o that_o there_o be_v so_o great_a abuse_n and_o disorder_n at_o this_o time_n reign_v and_o tolerate_v not_o only_o among_o the_o jew_n but_o even_o in_o jerusalem_n their_o chief_a city_n yea_o in_o the_o temple_n the_o principal_a place_n of_o the_o city_n and_o yet_o even_o at_o the_o same_o time_n the_o true_a church_n of_o god_n be_v at_o jerusalem_n and_o among_o the_o jew_n for_o there_o be_v some_o of_o they_o which_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o embrace_v the_o gospel_n as_o the_o apostle_n of_o christ_n and_o other_o disciple_n though_o they_o be_v but_o a_o small_a number_n in_o comparison_n hence_o gather_v that_o the_o true_a church_n of_o god_n may_v be_v in_o such_o place_n and_o among_o such_o person_n where_o there_o be_v great_a corruption_n and_o abuse_n reign_v mark_v 11._o 15_o 16._o and_o they_o come_v to_o jerusalem_n and_o jesus_n go_v into_o the_o temple_n and_o begin_v to_o cast_v 1629._o decem._n 20_o 1629._o out_o they_o that_o sell_v and_o buy_v in_o the_o temple_n etc._n etc._n observe_v 2_o observe_v 2._o in_o that_o one_o cause_n of_o these_o abuse_n practise_v in_o the_o temple_n be_v the_o negligence_n of_o the_o priest_n and_o of_o the_o scribe_n pharisee_n and_o other_o ruler_n of_o the_o jew_n who_o shall_v at_o first_o have_v withstand_v and_o hinder_v this_o profanation_n of_o the_o temple_n see_v by_o this_o how_o dangerous_a it_o be_v unto_o the_o church_n when_o the_o ruler_n and_o governor_n of_o it_o be_v careless_a and_o negligent_a of_o their_o duty_n in_o set_v themselves_o against_o abuse_n and_o corruption_n beginning_n to_o grow_v and_o spring_v up_o in_o the_o church_n this_o be_v a_o mean_n to_o let_v in_o all_o abuse_n into_o the_o church_n when_o such_o as_o shall_v keep_v they_o out_o be_v careless_a of_o do_v their_o duty_n when_o magistrate_n do_v not_o use_v their_o authority_n in_o resist_a abuse_n and_o disorder_n grow_v into_o the_o church_n when_o the_o pastor_n and_o minister_n of_o the_o church_n do_v not_o by_o their_o ministry_n oppose_v such_o abuse_n and_o labour_n to_o keep_v they_o out_o no_o marvel_n if_o such_o corruption_n get_v into_o the_o church_n and_o prevail_v in_o it_o see_v jer._n 2._o 8._o this_o be_v one_o main_a cause_n not_o only_o of_o these_o abuse_n in_o the_o temple_n here_o mention_v but_o also_o of_o sundry_a other_o gross_a corruption_n reign_v among_o the_o jew_n in_o our_o saviour_n time_n because_o the_o priest_n scribes_z and_o other_o ruler_n be_v negligent_a in_o their_o duty_n they_o be_v blind_a guide_n matth._n 23._o and_o take_v away_o the_o key_n of_o knowledge_n from_o the_o people_n luke_n 11._o 52._o use_v use_v see_v how_o needful_a for_o we_o to_o pray_v for_o the_o ruler_n and_o governor_n of_o the_o church_n that_o they_o may_v be_v zealous_a and_o conscionable_a in_o their_o duty_n to_o set_v themselves_o by_o all_o mean_n against_o abuse_n and_o corruption_n grow_v into_o the_o church_n etc._n etc._n observe_v 3_o observe_v 3._o in_o that_o another_o main_a cause_n of_o these_o abuse_n practise_v in_o the_o temple_n be_v the_o covetousness_n of_o the_o priest_n and_o people_n who_o make_v a_o gain_n to_o themselves_o by_o this_o buy_n and_o sell_v of_o ox_n sheep_n dove_n etc._n etc._n in_o the_o temple_n for_o sacrifice_n hence_o gather_v how_o hurtful_a and_o dangerous_a the_o sin_n of_o covetousness_n be_v in_o the_o church_n of_o god_n be_v one_o main_a cause_n of_o the_o great_a corruption_n and_o abuse_n which_o do_v grow_v and_o spring_v up_o in_o the_o church_n and_o do_v reign_v in_o it_o as_o it_o be_v call_v by_o the_o apostle_n the_o root_n of_o all_o evil_a 1_o tim._n 6._o 10._o so_o especial_o it_o be_v the_o root_n and_o fountain_n of_o those_o evil_n which_o do_v most_o hurt_v and_o annoy_v the_o church_n of_o god_n how_o many_o gross_a sin_n and_o corruption_n have_v this_o one_o sin_n cause_v and_o bring_v forth_o in_o the_o church_n from_o time_n to_o time_n and_o in_o all_o age_n as_o nonresidency_a bribery_n extortion_n usury_n etc._n etc._n what_o be_v one_o cause_n of_o so_o much_o lie_v swear_v forswear_v &_o c_o what_o be_v one_o cause_n of_o such_o contempt_n and_o neglect_n of_o god_n worship_n and_o holy_a ordinance_n but_o covetousness_n as_o in_o the_o parable_n luke_n 7._o those_o that_o be_v invite_v to_o the_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a supper_n make_v excuse_n from_o their_o farm_n ox_n etc._n etc._n what_o be_v one_o cause_n of_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o sabbath_n by_o buy_v and_o sell_v of_o ware_n by_o do_v worldly_a business_n go_v journey_n etc._n etc._n but_o covetousness_n jer._n 6._o 13._o from_o the_o least_o to_o the_o great_a they_o be_v give_v to_o covetousness_n from_o the_o prophet_n to_o the_o priest_n every_o one_o deal_v false_o this_o sin_n be_v name_v for_o all_o other_o use_v use_v this_o shall_v teach_v and_o move_v we_o to_o hate_v and_o abhor_v this_o sin_n of_o covetousness_n in_o ourselves_o and_o other_o see_v it_o do_v so_o much_o hurt_v in_o the_o church_n of_o god_n and_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o so_o many_o abomination_n in_o it_o therefore_o let_v all_o take_v heed_n of_o this_o sin_n and_o of_o be_v give_v to_o it_o as_o our_o saviour_n warn_v the_o people_n in_o his_o time_n luke_n 12._o 15._o pray_v unto_o god_n to_o keep_v we_o from_o this_o sin_n get_v faith_n in_o god_n providence_n
