as_o some_o slight_a praise_n i_o doubt_v not_o may_v come_v from_o the_o mouth_n of_o one_o not_o yet_o ingraft_v into_o christ_n by_o a_o lively_a faith_n from_o the_o sense_n of_o common_a mercy_n and_o general_a grace_n so_o on_o the_o other_o side_n even_o a_o believer_n through_o the_o weakness_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o the_o distemper_n of_o his_o body_n and_o the_o want_n of_o exercise_n in_o this_o duty_n may_v make_v but_o little_a music_n and_o be_v a_o very_a bungler_n in_o this_o work_n and_o so_o lose_v the_o comfort_n and_o strength_n that_o a_o heart_n fervent_a and_o frequent_a in_o this_o duty_n will_v daily_o get_v but_o before_o i_o say_v any_o thing_n to_o stir_v up_o to_o this_o exercise_n i_o will_v first_o show_n what_o be_v requisite_a to_o or_o imply_v in_o this_o joy_n and_o delight_n in_o god_n and_o true_a gratitude_n and_o praise_n i_o put_v they_o all_o together_o because_o there_o be_v much_o affinity_n and_o correspondence_n between_o they_o and_o therefore_o as_o to_o the_o subject_a of_o these_o act_n or_o the_o person_n that_o must_v exert_v they_o he_o must_v be_v thus_o qualify_v and_o prepare_v 1._o he_o must_v be_v of_o a_o open_a cheerful_a temper_n there_o be_v none_o more_o unfit_a for_o this_o duty_n than_o the_o lumpish_a sad_a and_o heavy_a heart_n though_o i_o deny_v not_o but_o sadness_n and_o heaviness_n of_o spirit_n be_v sometime_o a_o duty_n after_o the_o commission_n of_o sin_n especial_o great_a and_o wilful_a sin_n till_o by_o renew_a sorrow_n confession_n and_o a_o more_o cautelous_a heed_n to_o prevent_v it_o for_o the_o future_a and_o the_o application_n of_o christ_n blood_n by_o faith_n the_o cause_n of_o such_o sadness_n be_v remove_v but_o a_o constant_a habitual_a sadness_n and_o despondency_n every_o thought_n will_v cut_v his_o heart_n he_o will_v follow_v the_o work_n close_o and_o do_v nothing_o else_o but_o reflect_v upon_o and_o bewail_v his_o misery_n as_o consideration_n if_o it_o be_v timely_o follow_v and_o wise_o manage_v be_v the_o best_a and_o usual_a instrument_n on_o man_n part_n to_o bring_v a_o foolish_a careless_a senseless_a sinner_n to_o his_o wit_n again_o so_o consideration_n when_o it_o be_v too_o late_o be_v the_o great_a instrument_n to_o put_v he_o quite_o out_o of_o his_o wit_n and_o to_o fill_v his_o heart_n with_o rage_a downright_a madness_n for_o ever_o you_o will_v not_o be_v persuade_v to_o consider_v now_o what_o you_o be_v do_v and_o whither_o you_o be_v go_v and_o why_o god_n have_v make_v you_o and_o give_v you_o life_n and_o time_n that_o sin_n have_v do_v you_o and_o the_o love_n and_o compassion_n that_o christ_n have_v show_v to_o you_o if_o you_o understand_v not_o what_o god_n make_v you_o at_o the_o first_o and_o for_o what_o a_o honourable_a high_a and_o noble_a end_n and_o how_o much_o your_o nature_n be_v distort_v and_o though_o you_o can_v not_o help_v it_o that_o you_o take_v such_o a_o perverse_a nature_n from_o your_o parent_n yet_o you_o have_v too_o much_o give_v your_o actual_a consent_n in_o that_o you_o have_v not_o bewail_v and_o lament_v your_o case_n in_o any_o considerable_a measure_n to_o this_o day_n if_o you_o know_v not_o what_o ever_o sin_n deserve_v nor_o see_v so_o much_o evil_n in_o it_o as_o that_o it_o shall_v deserve_v the_o penalty_n that_o god_n have_v threaten_v nor_o forgetful_a to_o this_o duty_n whilst_o you_o be_v put_v other_o in_o mind_n you_o will_v revive_v and_o strengthen_v the_o like_a disposition_n in_o yourself_o and_o perform_v a_o acceptable_a service_n to_o god_n whereby_o you_o will_v increase_v his_o love_n to_o you_o and_o consequent_o the_o remembrance_n of_o he_o will_v be_v more_o sweet_a to_o you_o restore_v to_o i_o say_v david_n overlook_v their_o other_o misery_n and_o not_o to_o take_v they_o into_o our_o consideration_n 1._o to_o get_v our_o heart_n affect_v that_o we_o may_v true_o pity_v they_o 2._o and_o earnest_o pray_v for_o they_o and_o 3._o contribute_v what_o other_o help_n we_o be_v able_a to_o make_v they_o as_o happy_a as_o ourselves_o there_o be_v a_o selfishness_n too_o natural_a to_o every_o one_o of_o we_o that_o will_v not_o let_v we_o hear_v on_o this_o ear_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v so_o careless_a in_o this_o public_a calamity_n what_o other_o suffer_v so_o we_o be_v free_a how_o senseless_a be_v we_o under_o such_o a_o hand_n as_o be_v fall_v upon_o many_o part_n of_o this_o nation_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v so_o unthankful_a for_o our_o health_n and_o preservation_n when_o god_n have_v require_v the_o life_n of_o so_o many_o of_o our_o brethren_n from_o they_o what_o a_o fearful_a woeful_a scourge_n do_v the_o city_n feel_v and_o heavy_o groan_v under_o how_o do_v the_o inhabitant_n of_o that_o one_o proud_a and_o glorious_a city_n reply_n to_o one_o another_o in_o sigh_n and_o groan_n and_o bitter_a out_o cry_v and_o lamentation_n where_o whole_a family_n be_v smite_v and_o blast_v and_o child_n and_o parent_n pledge_v one_o another_o in_o tear_n and_o drink_v the_o wine_n of_o astonishment_n where_o dear_a friend_n be_v make_v the_o executor_n of_o the_o calamity_n of_o their_o depart_a friend_n and_o it_o be_v take_v and_o account_v for_o a_o mercy_n to_o die_v first_o lest_o the_o miserable_a calamity_n of_o wife_n and_o child_n and_o their_o successive_a departure_n shall_v be_v more_o than_o one_o single_a death_n their_o eye_n affect_v their_o heart_n lam._n 3.51_o but_o we_o as_o we_o see_v not_o their_o misery_n so_o neither_o do_v we_o feel_v they_o as_o we_o ought_v as_o through_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n we_o be_v more_o safe_a than_o they_o so_o we_o be_v more_o secure_a and_o too_o void_a of_o any_o christian_a sense_n of_o this_o common_a calamity_n alas_o alas_o they_o have_v the_o dreadful_a sound_n and_o noise_n of_o this_o judgement_n in_o their_o ear_n and_o see_v death_n continual_o before_o their_o eye_n but_o we_o hear_v but_o at_o a_o distance_n and_o therefore_o be_v not_o strike_v with_o the_o terror_n thereof_o the_o report_n of_o this_o murdering-piece_n that_o god_n have_v shoot_v off_o in_o many_o place_n of_o this_o nation_n be_v faint_a and_o dead_a before_o it_o come_v to_o our_o sense_n but_o the_o less_o we_o see_v this_o misery_n and_o hear_v these_o cry_v the_o more_o we_o shall_v supply_v this_o merciful_a defect_n by_o consideration_n if_o we_o see_v or_o hear_v it_o may_v be_v we_o shall_v not_o need_v many_o thought_n to_o fetch_v tear_n from_o our_o eye_n and_o sigh_n from_o our_o heart_n desolenciâ—â—_n and_o want_n of_o this_o compassion_n show_v a_o fat_a and_o brawny_a heart_n though_o we_o be_v not_o to_o indulge_v this_o affection_n so_o far_o as_o to_o make_v it_o guilty_a of_o side_v against_o god_n as_o it_o will_v be_v apt_a to_o do_v if_o it_o proceed_v no_o far_o and_o do_v not_o serve_v a_o high_a end_n the_o end_n of_o this_o affection_n be_v to_o make_v way_n for_o compassion_n towards_o their_o soul_n and_o to_o bewail_v and_o beg_v pardon_n for_o their_o sin_n that_o have_v bring_v this_o misery_n on_o they_o 1._o objection_n i_o have_v do_v with_o the_o first_o observable_a which_o the_o text_n sugge_v to_o we_o viz._n that_o forgetfulness_n of_o god_n be_v a_o fearful_a and_o dangerous_a sin_n and_o expose_v such_o as_o be_v guilty_a of_o it_o to_o the_o unavoidable_a wrath_n of_o god_n 2._o objection_n i_o come_v now_o to_o the_o second_o observation_n viz._n that_o consideration_n be_v one_o of_o the_o principal_a instrument_n on_o our_o part_n to_o bring_v we_o to_o the_o remembrance_n of_o god_n at_o first_o and_o to_o prevent_v forgetfulness_n afterward_o or_o to_o recover_v we_o out_o of_o that_o degree_n
