and_o way_n to_o another_o course_n and_o give_v thou_o to_o live_v in_o his_o sight_n it_o be_v true_a it_o may_v be_v many_o a_o good_a soul_n can_v ready_o tell_v you_o this_o note_v this_o what_o promise_n do_v first_o bring_v they_o on_o to_o god_n but_o though_o thou_o can_v not_o always_o tell_v yet_o a_o word_n of_o promise_n it_o be_v and_o ordinary_o a_o word_n of_o promise_n which_o the_o word_n preach_v do_v apply_v to_o thy_o soul_n and_o cause_v thy_o heart_n to_o reach_v forth_o and_o to_o lay_v hold_n upon_o it_o but_o though_o thou_o be_v not_o always_o able_a to_o reckon_v up_o the_o first_o promise_n yet_o this_o i_o say_v and_o mark_v it_o there_o be_v no_o christian_a soul_n but_o have_v some_o promise_n of_o god_n on_o which_o his_o heart_n be_v stay_v upon_o and_o by_o which_o his_o life_n be_v nourish_v which_o argue_v it_o be_v breed_v of_o those_o promise_n of_o which_o it_o be_v now_o feed_v though_o a_o man_n be_v not_o always_o able_a to_o tell_v what_o promise_v it_o be_v sometime_o a_o word_n of_o reproof_n or_o of_o counsel_n may_v sink_v deep_a into_o a_o man_n when_o god_n set_v it_o well_o on_o and_o may_v make_v a_o deep_a impression_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n and_o may_v so_o turn_v about_o the_o course_n of_o their_o life_n as_o that_o thereby_o they_o may_v reform_v all_o common_a and_o outward_a and_o know_v soul_n sin_n which_o before_o be_v ever_o cause_n and_o matter_n of_o reproof_n but_o that_o be_v not_o so_o safe_a a_o work_n of_o christ_n not_o such_o a_o strong_a evidence_n of_o our_o spiritual_a life_n when_o such_o a_o word_n of_o reproof_n or_o counsel_n have_v set_v we_o in_o such_o a_o course_n and_o we_o have_v thereupon_o refrain_v game_a and_o break_v of_o the_o sabbath_n and_o vain_a fashion_n this_o be_v well_o but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o safe_a a_o sign_n of_o our_o new_a birth_n for_o this_o may_v befall_v even_o a_o hypocrite_n he_o may_v be_v so_o convince_v by_o a_o word_n of_o grace_n and_o wise_a counsel_n as_o may_v strong_o turn_v the_o stream_n of_o his_o course_n another_o way_n and_o yet_o be_v without_o any_o life_n and_o power_n of_o godliness_n only_o the_o word_n of_o promise_n be_v able_a to_o work_v grace_n and_o life_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n for_o the_o ground_n of_o the_o point_n be_v this_o point_n ground_n of_o the_o point_n we_o can_v have_v a_o spirit_n of_o life_n wrought_v in_o we_o by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n nor_o by_o the_o word_n of_o the_o law_n gal._n 3.5_o he_o that_o minister_v to_o you_o in_o the_o spirit_n and_o work_v miracle_n do_v he_o it_o by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v do_v you_o ever_o receive_v the_o grace_n of_o christ_n by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n or_o by_o partly_o in_o the_o heart_n and_o partly_o in_o the_o life_n let_v i_o now_o show_v you_o some_o such_o effect_n of_o spiritual_a life_n as_o be_v find_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a and_o breathe_v forth_o themselves_o in_o his_o life_n by_o those_o habit_n and_o gift_n which_o be_v principal_o within_o and_o the_o sum_n of_o what_o i_o shall_v now_o say_v be_v thus_o much_o there_o be_v certain_a variety_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o themselves_o so_o different_a and_o opposite_a as_o that_o in_o nature_n they_o be_v seldom_o compatible_a to_o one_o person_n at_o one_o and_o the_o same_o time_n or_o least_o of_o all_o to_o be_v find_v in_o one_o and_o the_o same_o business_n and_o yet_o be_v find_v where_o ever_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n be_v sanctify_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n where_o you_o have_v the_o life_n of_o sanctification_n in_o a_o christian_a you_o shall_v find_v variety_n of_o grace_n in_o they_o some_o of_o they_o of_o such_o diversity_n and_o opposition_n one_o to_o another_o that_o in_o nature_n the_o like_a temper_n be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v in_o one_o person_n at_o the_o same_o time_n and_o in_o the_o same_o business_n they_o be_v certain_a kind_n of_o conjugation_n or_o companion_n of_o grace_n so_o fit_v and_o join_v together_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n as_o that_o nature_n be_v not_o able_a to_o compact_v such_o sanctify_a affection_n unto_o such_o use_n upon_o any_o occasion_n much_o less_o able_a to_o bring_v they_o forth_o upon_o any_o occasion_n they_o be_v so_o different_a in_o themselves_o to_o name_v some_o of_o they_o in_o particular_a first_o if_o you_o look_v at_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n as_o it_o work_v in_o the_o heart_n once_o joy_n and_o grief_n in_o the_o soul_n sanctify_v at_o once_o and_o exercise_n itself_o in_o the_o conversion_n of_o a_o sinner_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o when_o the_o soul_n discern_v any_o life_n of_o grace_n in_o its_o heart_n that_o sin_n be_v now_o pardon_v and_o god_n be_v please_v to_o frame_v it_o anew_o and_o to_o give_v it_o a_o new_a life_n at_o that_o time_n the_o heart_n be_v take_v up_o with_o these_o two_o contrary_a effect_n it_o be_v both_o enlarge_v with_o no_o small_a measure_n of_o joy_n that_o ever_o god_n shall_v redeem_v he_o from_o such_o a_o desperate_a condition_n as_o his_o soul_n lie_v in_o and_o yet_o withal_o full_a of_o grief_n of_o heart_n that_o ever_o he_o shall_v have_v so_o much_o displease_v that_o god_n that_o have_v do_v so_o much_o for_o he_o and_o so_o plain_a as_o that_o you_o shall_v evident_o discern_v the_o voice_n of_o your_o own_o joy_n from_o the_o voice_n of_o your_o own_o grief_n i_o know_v not_o better_a how_o to_o instance_n in_o it_o then_o to_o fetch_v a_o resemblance_n from_o the_o return_n of_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n from_o captivity_n to_o jerusalem_n read_v psal_n 126.2_o 3_o 4._o when_o god_n turn_v the_o captivity_n of_o his_o people_n this_o be_v their_o affection_n then_o be_v their_o mouth_n fill_v with_o laughter_n and_o their_o tongue_n with_o sing_v etc._n etc._n now_o the_o same_o people_n that_o so_o rejoice_v to_o see_v themselves_o redeem_v by_o the_o arm_n of_o the_o lord_n when_o they_o do_v rejoice_v to_o see_v themselves_o set_v at_o liberty_n from_o the_o captivity_n they_o do_v at_o the_o same_o time_n as_o sad_o grieve_v and_o weep_v to_o consider_v the_o unkindness_n they_o have_v put_v upon_o god_n and_o their_o unworthiness_n of_o such_o a_o mercy_n from_o he_o as_o you_o may_v read_v jer._n 50._o 4_o 5._o speak_v of_o the_o same_o people_n and_o of_o the_o same_o time_n their_o return_n from_o the_o captivity_n and_o he_o tell_v you_o they_o shall_v come_v go_v and_o weep_v shall_v they_o go_v and_o seek_v the_o lord_n god_n and_o ask_v the_o way_n to_o zion_n with_o their_o face_n thitherward_o if_o the_o psalmist_n speak_v of_o it_o he_o say_v they_o be_v out_o of_o and_o beyond_o themselves_o for_o joy_n as_o in_o a_o comfortable_a dream_n the_o news_n seem_v to_o be_v too_o good_a to_o be_v true_a and_o they_o rejoice_v with_o exceed_v great_a joy_n and_o if_o the_o prophet_n jeremy_n speak_v of_o the_o very_a same_o people_n and_o the_o same_o time_n and_o the_o very_a same_o action_n he_o tell_v you_o they_o go_v to_o jerusalem_n weep_v they_o go_v to_o seek_v the_o god_n with_o nor_o be_v there_o any_o mourning_n so_o deep_o wound_v the_o soul_n as_o that_o which_o arise_v from_o the_o sight_n of_o christ_n crucify_v than_o the_o soul_n mourn_v full_a bitter_o zach._n 12.10_o he_o will_v mourn_v exceed_o to_o think_v that_o he_o shall_v deal_v so_o unworthy_o against_o that_o god_n that_o have_v all_o this_o while_n have_v such_o wonderful_a thought_n of_o we_o speak_v before_o of_o prize_v christ_n in_o our_o judgement_n by_o certain_a preparative_n grace_n but_o now_o we_o speak_v of_o that_o kind_n of_o life_n of_o sanctification_n which_o put_v forth_o itself_o after_o some_o sense_n of_o our_o justification_n this_o life_n of_o the_o mixture_n of_o joy_n and_o mourning_n bear_v witness_n to_o our_o life_n of_o sanctification_n second_o in_o the_o worship_v of_o god_n in_o those_o duty_n of_o the_o life_n of_o sanctification_n fear_n 2._o joy_n and_o fear_n you_o shall_v find_v another_o combination_n of_o mix_a affection_n the_o like_a of_o which_o be_v not_o and_o can_v be_v find_v in_o nature_n and_o that_o be_v joy_n and_o fear_n according_a to_o psal_n 2.11_o serve_v the_o lord_n with_o fear_n and_o rejoice_v with_o tremble_a strange_o mix_v in_o every_o lively_a holy_a christian_n and_o that_o be_v diligence_n in_o worldly_a business_n and_o yet_o deadness_n to_o the_o world_n such_o a_o mystery_n as_o none_o can_v read_v but_o they_o that_o know_v it_o for_o a_o man_n to_o rise_v early_o and_o go_v to_o bed_v late_o and_o eat_v the_o bread_n of_o carefullnesse_n not_o a_o sinful_a but_o a_o provident_a care_n world_n
