as_o there_o do_v even_o in_o st._n augustine_n day_n who_o complain_v of_o it_o not_o a_o little_a in_o his_o epistle_n to_o januarius_n neither_o can_v it_o be_v doubt_v but_o such_o excess_n will_v against_o the_o idolatry_n of_o other_o because_o it_o be_v no_o less_o than_o give_v some_o of_o god_n glory_n to_o his_o creature_n by_o so_o much_o the_o more_o we_o oblige_v ourselves_o to_o be_v constant_a and_o devout_a and_o in_o very_o good_a earnest_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o the_o only_a true_a god_n least_o by_o degree_n we_o fall_v into_o a_o spirit_n of_o irreligion_n and_o atheism_n fall_v by_o temptation_n not_o as_o the_o word_n at_o first_o hear_v seem_v to_o import_v that_o no_o temptation_n may_v befall_v we_o for_o as_o to_o that_o temptation_n which_o require_v the_o vigilance_n and_o devotion_n of_o our_o lord_n disciple_n at_o this_o time_n he_o plain_o tell_v they_o it_o will_v happen_v and_o therefore_o by_o enter_v into_o temptation_n must_v be_v mean_v fall_v into_o that_o sin_n to_o which_o the_o temptation_n be_v a_o inducement_n and_o so_o the_o exhortation_n run_v as_o if_o our_o saviour_n have_v say_v you_o be_v very_o confident_a that_o you_o shall_v do_v as_o you_o ought_v as_o if_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o easy_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n but_o i_o tell_v you_o beforehand_o that_o this_o confidence_n of_o you_o be_v a_o dangerous_a that_o you_o enter_v not_o into_o temptation_n i_o proceed_v next_o to_o explain_v the_o reason_n which_o our_o saviour_n add_v to_o enforce_v the_o exhortation_n the_o spirit_n indeed_o be_v willing_a but_o the_o flesh_n be_v weak_a and_o now_o i_o doubt_v when_o we_o hear_v or_o read_v these_o word_n we_o be_v too_o apt_a to_o interpret_v they_o as_o if_o jesus_n have_v mean_v to_o excuse_v the_o sluggishness_n of_o his_o disciple_n and_o have_v indeed_o speak_v to_o they_o in_o this_o manner_n it_o be_v well_o if_o you_o will_v watch_v and_o pray_v that_o you_o may_v not_o fall_v by_o temptation_n but_o the_o truth_n be_v though_o you_o be_v willing_a so_o to_o do_v yet_o you_o be_v not_o very_o much_o to_o be_v blame_v but_o in_o some_o part_n to_o be_v excuse_v if_o you_o do_v not_o and_o that_o because_o of_o the_o frailty_n and_o weakness_n of_o humane_a nature_n but_o i_o beseech_v you_o not_o to_o be_v fond_a of_o this_o way_n of_o expound_v these_o word_n for_o it_o be_v by_o no_o mean_n true_a nor_o in_o the_o least_o worthy_a of_o our_o saviour_n wisdom_n nor_o agreeable_a to_o the_o scope_n of_o his_o doctrine_n let_v we_o not_o think_v so_o mean_o of_o our_o lord_n as_o if_o he_o give_v his_o disciple_n necessary_a direction_n and_o in_o the_o same_o breath_n excuse_v they_o whether_o they_o fulfil_v his_o direction_n or_o not_o these_o word_n i_o say_v do_v not_o contain_v a_o excuse_n of_o their_o neglect_n to_o watch_v and_o pray_v but_o a_o reason_n why_o they_o shall_v do_v both_o and_o such_o a_o reason_n too_o as_o leave_v they_o without_o all_o excuse_n if_o they_o fail_v in_o either_o for_o thus_o they_o may_v be_v suppose_v to_o run_v watch_z and_o pray_v that_o you_o enter_v not_o into_o temptation_n for_o though_o the_o spirit_n be_v willing_a yet_o the_o flesh_n be_v weak_a and_o so_o it_o be_v absolute_o necessary_a that_o you_o watch_v and_o pray_v which_o interpretation_n as_o it_o hold_v forth_o a_o worthy_a and_o excellent_a meaning_n of_o itself_o so_o it_o be_v clear_o warrant_v by_o the_o circumstance_n and_o scope_n of_o the_o place_n and_o by_o the_o condition_n of_o those_o person_n at_o present_a to_o who_o these_o word_n be_v use_v and_o by_o what_o befall_v they_o afterward_o and_o this_o will_v be_v very_o evident_a if_o we_o examine_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o word_n by_o these_o rule_n for_o than_o you_o will_v see_v 1._o that_o by_o a_o willing_a spirit_n we_o be_v not_o to_o understand_v a_o forwardness_n to_o watch_n and_o pray_v but_o a_o present_a resolution_n to_o overcome_v temptation_n and_o that_o a_o sincere_a resolution_n too_o such_o a_o resolution_n as_o be_v accompany_v with_o a_o strong_a persuasion_n that_o we_o shall_v do_v so_o and_o that_o be_v the_o case_n of_o the_o disciple_n for_o if_o we_o look_v back_o in_o this_o chapter_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o upon_o their_o master_n forewarn_v they_o what_o occasion_n of_o offence_n they_o will_v meet_v
