write_v of_o one_o democritus_n he_o put_v out_o his_o eye_n because_o he_o can_v not_o look_v without_o lust_a but_o do_v that_o mortify_v his_o sin_n no_o though_o his_o eye_n be_v out_o his_o corruption_n continue_v still_o within_o there_o be_v two_o great_a thing_n only_o to_o be_v know_v by_o the_o gospel_n the_o one_o be_v how_o we_o may_v have_v peace_n with_o god_n be_v accept_v of_o 6._o let_v the_o six_o use_n be_v to_o convince_v all_o such_o of_o great_a error_n who_o think_v they_o can_v mortify_v their_o sin_n of_o themselves_o or_o that_o any_o thing_n they_o can_v do_v can_v be_v effectual_a to_o the_o mortification_n thereof_o without_o the_o spirit_n it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o grand_a error_n of_o the_o antichristian_a party_n to_o think_v that_o their_o vow_n fasting_n penance_n etc._n etc._n can_v mortify_v sin_n and_o they_o give_v themselves_o divers_a of_o they_o to_o severe_a course_n and_o put_v other_o on_o to_o such_o and_o such_o thing_n as_o effectual_a mean_n to_o slay_v their_o lust_n without_o look_v after_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n for_o its_o assistance_n wherein_o too_o too_o many_o who_o oppose_v popery_n be_v too_o like_a to_o papist_n as_o in_o other_o thing_n for_o be_v there_o not_o many_o who_o hear_v the_o absolute_a necessity_n of_o have_v their_o sin_n
slay_v do_v thereupon_o resolve_v and_o strive_v with_o their_o eye_n off_o from_o the_o spirit_n and_o how_o frequent_a be_v it_o for_o sin_n to_o be_v cry_v down_o and_o people_n to_o be_v stir_v enemy_n without_o the_o spirit_n be_v not_o like_a to_o have_v its_o help_n nor_o will_v they_o look_v for_o nor_o do_v they_o care_v for_o its_o assistance_n when_o we_o suppose_v we_o can_v do_v a_o work_n that_o concern_v we_o of_o ourselves_o we_o look_v not_o forth_o for_o a_o helper_n be_v it_o not_o say_v sometime_o i_o care_v not_o whether_o you_o or_o he_o or_o any_o one_o will_v afford_v i_o help_v i_o will_v do_v such_o a_o thing_n my_o self_n i_o can_v do_v it_o without_o you_o etc._n etc._n o_o look_v to_o your_o own_o heart_n for_o ordinary_a be_v it_o that_o man_n have_v truth_n in_o their_o head_n and_o tongue_n yet_o the_o contrary_a error_n deep_o strong_o root_v in_o their_o heart_n and_o thrive_a there_o as_o in_o other_o thing_n so_o in_o this_o a_o usual_a evil_n be_v it_o for_o man_n to_o hold_v the_o truth_n in_o unrighteousness_n they_o say_v they_o can_v mortify_v any_o sin_n without_o the_o spirit_n yet_o let_v they_o but_o faithful_o examine_v themselves_o and_o they_o shall_v find_v that_o they_o do_v attempt_v to_o get_v the_o conquest_n of_o this_o and_o that_o sin_n and_o imagine_v that_o they_o shall_v without_o the_o spirit_n wherefore_o let_v go_v to_o christ_n and_o drink_v receive_v from_o he_o this_o water_n of_o life_n the_o spirit_n which_o be_v as_o a_o water_n of_o death_n to_o the_o sin_n of_o those_o in_o who_o it_o dwell_v and_o so_o as_o water_v of_o life_n to_o their_o soul_n second_o if_o you_o mortify_v your_o sin_n through_o the_o spirit_n than_o you_o seek_v the_o mortification_n of_o they_o universal_o and_o thorough_o even_o of_o all_o your_o sin_n in_o all_o the_o working_n thereof_o so_o that_o if_o it_o may_v be_v you_o can_v

upon_o they_o as_o strong_a than_o they_o be_v it_o be_v a_o disgraceful_a injury_n to_o a_o physician_n when_o his_o patient_n get_v good_a by_o his_o prescription_n and_o be_v real_o better_a for_o they_o to_o say_v they_o be_v as_o bad_a as_o sick_a as_o ever_o they_o have_v get_v no_o good_a thereby_o so_o be_v it_o a_o dishonour_n and_o wrong_v to_o the_o bless_v most_o precious_a spirit_n of_o grace_n for_o those_o who_o have_v it_o and_o be_v act_v by_o it_o or_o make_v use_n of_o it_o to_o say_v they_o be_v never_o the_o better_a that_o their_o sin_n retain_v their_o former_a strength_n notwithstanding_o as_o if_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v either_o weak_a unskilful_a or_o unfaithful_a it_o be_v good_a for_o we_o to_o think_v and_o confess_v the_o worst_a of_o ourselves_o and_o we_o shall_v be_v humble_v and_o ashamed_a that_o our_o sin_n be_v no_o more_o subdue_v but_o we_o must_v beware_v that_o we_o dishonour_v not_o the_o spirit_n nor_o speak_v more_o against_o ourselves_o than_o be_v true_a as_o we_o must_v not_o speak_v false_o for_o god_n so_o not_o against_o ourselves_o all_o false_a witness_n be_v a_o transgression_n of_o the_o law_n yet_o let_v i_o say_v our_o heart_n be_v very_o deceitful_a in_o this_o thing_n we_o do_v not_o always_o act_v through_o the_o spirit_n nor_o be_v we_o sensible_a of_o our_o need_n of_o it_o nor_o do_v we_o so_o hearty_o seek_v it_o or_o rely_v on_o it_o as_o we_o sometime_o suppose_v i_o doubt_v not_o there_o be_v many_o who_o can_v testify_v that_o they_o have_v experience_v the_o deceitfulness_n of_o to_o take_v such_o a_o course_n for_o the_o destroy_v their_o sin_n as_o rather_o strengthen_v than_o weaken_v it_o enemy_n be_v overcome_v as_o oft_o if_o not_o often_o by_o policy_n than_o by_o main_a force_n so_o our_o sin_n be_v to_o be_v conquer_v by_o wisdom_n as_o well_o as_o if_o not_o more_o than_o by_o strength_n therefore_o look_v for_o the_o spirit_n to_o help_v you_o both_o as_o a_o spirit_n of_o power_n and_o also_o as_o a_o spirit_n of_o wisdom_n three_o beg_v that_o the_o spirit_n will_v not_o only_o help_v you_o against_o your_o sin_n but_o that_o it_o will_v cause_v so_o small_a that_o it_o need_v not_o or_o so_o weak_a that_o without_o the_o spirit_n it_o may_v be_v mortify_v five_o make_v sure_a of_o this_o that_o you_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o have_v receive_v the_o spirit_n from_o he_o and_o then_o steadfast_o expect_v its_o conduct_n powerful_a assistance_n and_o counsel_n for_o the_o destruction_n of_o your_o sin_n look_v upon_o it_o as_o your_o helper_n and_o have_v a_o raise_v firm_a expectation_n without_o waver_v of_o its_o help_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v 2_o tim._n 4.18_o the_o lord_n shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o every_o evil_a work_n and_o
