suffering_n by_o way_n of_o imprisonment_n and_o other_o danger_n and_o jeopardies_n that_o he_o be_v often_o in_o in_o his_o master_n work_n and_o service_n which_o i_o shall_v here_o omit_v and_o that_o because_o i_o will_v rather_o straiten_v myself_o than_o be_v tedious_a to_o the_o reader_n when_o that_o be_v say_v i_o have_v this_o further_a to_o add_v which_o i_o can_v be_v clear_a to_o omit_v or_o pass_v by_o viz._n that_o he_o be_v always_o a_o very_a plain_a heart_a man_n in_o plainness_n speak_v the_o truth_n to_o the_o face_n and_o never_o can_v endure_v either_o in_o himself_o or_o other_o whisper_a or_o backbiting_a but_o will_v sharp_o reprove_v it_o wherever_o he_o find_v it_o and_o furthermore_o all_o outward_a show_n formality_n jesture_n or_o deportment_n whatsoever_o that_o be_v by_o the_o creature_n bring_v forth_o in_o the_o likeness_n or_o imitation_n of_o the_o true_a power_n without_o the_o power_n bring_v forth_o thereof_o his_o righteous_a soul_n always_o abhor_v and_o for_o the_o confirmation_n thereof_o one_o thing_n among_o many_o i_o well_o remember_v that_o whereas_o there_o be_v a_o day_n of_o shake_v the_o outward_a body_n by_o the_o stir_n of_o the_o true_a power_n some_o in_o imitation_n thereof_o as_o i_o have_v observe_v in_o his_o presence_n in_o their_o own_o strength_n have_v imitate_v the_o like_a which_o he_o will_v in_o the_o integrity_n of_o his_o soul_n judge_n say_v away_o with_o deceit_n and_o such_o like_a word_n exhort_v and_o advise_v all_o to_o be_v plain_a heart_a and_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v what_o they_o appear_v to_o be_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o not_o otherwise_o and_o so_o remain_v from_o time_n to_o time_n as_o a_o man_n not_o subject_a to_o change_v his_o way_n hold_v forth_o his_o testimony_n in_o faithfulness_n to_o god_n not_o only_o against_o profane_a and_o sinful_a action_n but_o also_o against_o all_o formality_n set_v up_o by_o man_n though_o under_o pretence_n of_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o true_a power_n advise_v the_o creature_n to_o be_v inward_a to_o god_n and_o there_o to_o wait_v to_o know_v the_o true_a power_n itself_o to_o bring_v forth_o a_o form_n through_o every_o man_n whereby_o they_o may_v have_v the_o certain_a sense_n and_o knowledge_n how_o to_o do_v and_o perform_v the_o thing_n well_o please_v to_o their_o heavenly_a father_n that_o thereby_o they_o may_v in_o the_o end_n be_v accept_v of_o he_o he_o be_v not_o a_o man_n of_o shadow_n but_o for_o the_o substantial_a part_n of_o religion_n and_o to_o his_o last_o i_o very_o well_o remember_v his_o discourse_n run_v much_o after_o this_o manner_n that_o they_o be_v the_o only_o bless_a people_n and_o for_o evermore_o happy_a who_o have_v receive_v the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o prejudice_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o people_n against_o he_o without_o any_o just_a cause_n on_o his_o part_n give_v that_o i_o know_v of_o consider_v o_o friend_n what_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o you_o have_v so_o do_v have_v you_o know_v he_o to_o be_v a_o man_n of_o a_o ill_a life_n or_o a_o bad_a conversation_n or_o have_v he_o commit_v any_o evil_a or_o sin_v or_o transgress_v against_o god_n his_o truth_n or_o people_n that_o you_o have_v so_o hate_v he_o or_o have_v he_o be_v one_o that_o have_v preach_v any_o false_a doctrine_n or_o hold_v any_o principle_n contrary_a to_o truth_n or_o do_v he_o bring_v in_o any_o innovation_n among_o the_o people_n of_o god_n or_o build_v again_o any_o of_o those_o thing_n that_o he_o have_v by_o his_o ministry_n destroy_v in_o other_o if_o he_o have_v do_v none_o of_o those_o thing_n nor_o commit_v any_o personal_a trespass_n against_o you_o as_o some_o of_o you_o have_v confess_v what_o then_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o your_o envy_n and_o hate_v of_o he_o be_v it_o because_o he_o will_v not_o bow_v down_o nor_o worship_n any_o other_o god_n than_o the_o god_n of_o israel_n or_o be_v it_o because_o he_o will_v not_o submit_v to_o some_o outward_a order_n prescription_n or_o rule_v prescribe_v by_o fall_v man_n if_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n then_o do_v not_o you_o condemn_v yourselves_o in_o judge_v of_o he_o for_o what_o people_n in_o this_o latter_a age_n have_v labour_v and_o travel_v more_o than_o some_o of_o you_o have_v do_v to_o bring_v people_n out_o of_o the_o practice_n and_o observation_n of_o outward_a thing_n which_o they_o call_v the_o ordinance_n of_o christ_n some_o of_o which_o the_o saint_n in_o time_n past_a do_v practice_n and_o perform_v for_o a_o time_n as_o the_o scripture_n make_v mention_v and_o also_o from_o the_o many_o form_n decree_n and_o order_n that_o the_o professor_n have_v be_v jangle_v about_o and_o persecute_v one_o another_o count_v it_o all_o but_o dung_n and_o dross_n in_o comparison_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n or_o light_n of_o christ_n which_o be_v hold_v forth_o to_o be_v sufficient_a to_o lead_v unto_o salvation_n and_o in_o the_o light_n we_o be_v direct_v to_o wait_v upon_o god_n to_o know_v his_o mind_n and_o will_n to_o act_v and_o do_v in_o outward_a thing_n as_o god_n shall_v direct_v we_o by_o his_o good_a spirit_n and_o have_v you_o not_o look_v upon_o all_o those_o outward_a order_n prescription_n and_o ordinance_n as_o the_o outward_a court_n of_o the_o temple_n that_o be_v give_v unto_o the_o gentile_n to_o tread_v under_o foot_n and_o yet_o now_o after_o all_o these_o large_a declaration_n and_o testimony_n against_o those_o outward_a thing_n for_o you_o to_o encourage_v the_o set_v up_o such_o thing_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o to_o judge_n and_o condemn_v other_o for_o not_o conform_v unto_o your_o outward_a order_n censure_v friend_n out_o of_o unity_n that_o do_v not_o practise_v they_o which_o be_v the_o great_a penalty_n that_o you_o can_v inflict_v for_o want_v of_o outward_a power_n as_o if_o the_o saint_n unity_n stand_v in_o the_o practice_n and_o performance_n of_o those_o outward_a order_n oh_o friend_n consider_v of_o these_o
hide_v his_o glory_n and_o keep_v hide_v the_o thing_n of_o his_o kingdom_n but_o depend_v upon_o god_n fit_v people_n and_o prepare_v for_o his_o service_n and_o give_v the_o true_a knowledge_n of_o what_o he_o require_v to_o practice_n his_o say_v have_v be_v that_o even_o to_o he_o in_o that_o estate_n be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n reveal_v the_o great_a and_o wonderful_a power_n of_o the_o have_v reveal_v himself_o in_o power_n and_o great_a glory_n though_o he_o be_v a_o man_n in_o his_o life_n that_o will_v not_o willing_o miss_v the_o great_a attainment_n in_o truth_n yet_o he_o be_v not_o ashamed_a of_o be_v silent_a when_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o a_o assembly_n for_o the_o day_n be_v wherein_o he_o see_v the_o king_n the_o lord_n of_o host_n who_o majesty_n make_v he_o contender_n often_o confess_v to_o his_o moderation_n and_o meekness_n notwithstanding_o if_o he_o get_v hold_v of_o deceit_n and_o false_a affirmation_n from_o wilful_a opposer_n he_o hold_v such_o go_v to_o help_v but_o even_o as_o paul_n to_o macedonia_n by_o vision_n and_o revelation_n to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o they_o and_o visit_v over_o and_o over_o they_o to_o who_o god_n send_v he_o to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n he_o be_v faithful_a in_o do_v or_o in_o suffer_v as_o require_v of_o the_o almighty_a witness_v his_o suffering_n in_o salisbury_n goal_n under_o sentence_n of_o praemunire_n almost_o a_o whole_a year_n but_o deliver_v at_o the_o king_n coronation_n for_o before_o prescription_n outward_a order_n and_o form_n among_o some_o friend_n be_v so_o impose_v and_o carry_v a_o stress_n of_o religion_n john_n story_n be_v not_o judge_v a_o flyer_n in_o persecution_n but_o esteem_v honourable_a among_o the_o brethren_n and_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o because_o he_o can_v not_o receive_v some_o prescription_n of_o man_n with_o all_o its_o formality_n therefore_o be_v he_o proceed_v against_o by_o some_o as_o one_o of_o a_o wrong_a spirit_n and_o out_o of_o the_o unity_n though_o he_o oppose_v not_o other_o therein_o if_o they_o be_v so_o persuade_v of_o god_n but_o they_o will_v not_o be_v satisfy_v with_o that_o but_o oppose_v he_o in_o public_a meeting_n as_o one_o that_o hate_v to_o be_v reform_v alas_o alas_o his_o religion_n be_v not_o form_v with_o order_n and_o precept_n of_o man_n he_o can_v not_o so_o far_o dishonour_v his_o god_n nor_o judge_v any_o friend_n so_o weak_a in_o understanding_n to_o make_v a_o breach_n of_o unity_n with_o they_o under_o pretence_n of_o motion_n government_n and_o dignity_n john_n say_v he_o be_v often_o ashamed_a of_o such_o a_o degeneration_n and_o say_v if_o it_o do_v continue_v the_o evil_a effect_n will_v scarce_o cease_v he_o render_v not_o evil_a for_o evil_n by_o oppose_v his_o opposer_n in_o meeting_n for_o public_a worship_n but_o exhort_v to_o righteousness_n and_o peace_n and_o if_o that_o can_v not_o be_v bear_v it_o be_v speak_v say_v he_o a_o famine_n of_o the_o word_n oh_o he_o suffer_v the_o same_o measure_n to_o be_v mete_v again_o for_o his_o way_n be_v equal_a and_o just_a and_o righteous_a altogether_o and_o as_o he_o endeavour_v his_o doctrine_n shall_v be_v try_v commend_v it_o to_o every_o man_n conscience_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n so_o also_o his_o proceed_n and_o good_a work_n say_v how_o shall_v man_n glorify_v our_o heavenly_a father_n if_o our_o proceed_n and_o good_a work_n be_v hide_v from_o they_o and_o if_o people_n wait_v not_o in_o the_o spirit_n but_o oppose_v it_o with_o form_n of_o man_n make_v such_o can_v relish_v the_o word_n of_o life_n nor_o suffer_v truth_n be_v testimony_n in_o quiet_a but_o cause_v jangle_v with_o form_n in_o the_o break_n of_o the_o day_n against_o truth_n and_o see_v not_o the_o glory_n that_o excel_v after_o this_o manner_n that_o as_o to_o his_o life_n and_o conversation_n it_o be_v honest_a or_o they_o have_v nothing_o against_o he_o for_o that_o and_o as_o to_o his_o doctrine_n it_o be_v good_a word_n but_o that_o they_o do_v not_o come_v from_o a_o right_a spirit_n or_o to_o that_o effect_n and_o therefore_o since_o his_o opposer_n do_v not_o prove_v any_o thing_n of_o this_o nature_n against_o he_o while_o he_o be_v live_v we_o shall_v think_v ourselves_o or_o any_o other_o not_o much_o oblige_v to_o believe_v any_o thing_n of_o evil_a report_n that_o other_o may_v say_v of_o or_o concern_v he_o now_o he_o be_v remove_v from_o among_o man_n and_o if_o any_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o defame_v he_o in_o his_o christian_a reputation_n now_o he_o be_v go_v doubtless_o it_o will_v rather_o seem_v to_o we_o or_o any_o sober_a and_o moderate_a people_n to_o savour_v of_o a_o spirit_n of_o malice_n and_o prejudice_n than_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o christianity_n or_o common_a civility_n but_o if_o any_o of_o his_o opposer_n shall_v think_v that_o out_o of_o fear_n we_o do_v as_o it_o be_v bespeak_v their_o silence_n we_o do_v say_v to_o such_o let_v they_o do_v as_o they_o please_v for_o we_o fear_v they_o not_o we_o further_o say_v we_o have_v observe_v that_o not_o one_o man_n we_o know_v of_o who_o have_v a_o public_a testimony_n and_o do_v not_o conform_v unto_o order_n and_o ceremony_n as_o aforesaid_a that_o be_v now_o own_a or_o account_v of_o as_o former_o by_o those_o who_o have_v appear_v against_o he_o or_o be_v hot_a and_o zealous_a for_o the_o order_n etc._n etc._n and_o although_o such_o nonconformist_n be_v as_o blameless_a in_o their_o life_n and_o conversation_n and_o as_o sound_v in_o their_o doctrine_n and_o testimony_n as_o former_o yet_o we_o find_v that_o they_o be_v either_o public_o disow_v or_o else_o private_o calumniate_v and_o dislike_v withal_o and_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n we_o have_v likewise_o observe_v that_o if_o other_o who_o be_v conformable_a and_o preach_v up_o the_o order_n etc._n etc._n be_v guilty_a of_o such_o thing_n as_o in_o truth_n can_v be_v justifiable_a yet_o such_o person_n be_v either_o own_v
