thou_o will_v not_o be_v dismay_v at_o the_o threaten_n of_o man_n no_o nor_o at_o the_o temptation_n of_o the_o devil_n there_o be_v such_o a_o exceed_a great_a and_o mighty_a power_n that_o work_v fasten_v that_o word_n on_o you_o and_o to_o show_v you_o how_o you_o come_v short_a of_o that_o life_n and_o strength_n and_o grace_n that_o otherwise_o you_o may_v have_v for_o want_v of_o magnify_v and_o exalt_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n which_o be_v the_o conduit_n the_o intelligencer_n that_o which_o bring_v light_a and_o life_n and_o strength_n to_o our_o soul_n from_o god_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v light_o esteem_v therefore_o we_o have_v little_a grace_n a_o low_a esteem_n of_o the_o spirit_n will_v keep_v a_o saint_n low_a all_o his_o day_n i_o think_v to_o have_v instance_a in_o a_o few_o thing_n wherein_o you_o undervalue_v the_o spirit_n one_o be_v that_o you_o do_v not_o hearken_v enough_o nor_o regard_n and_o observe_v enough_o the_o teach_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o that_o be_v one_o cause_n why_o we_o be_v leave_v to_o our_o self_n and_o do_v so_o often_o miss_v the_o will_n of_o god_n for_o i_o know_v not_o according_a to_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n why_o a_o saint_n shall_v at_o any_o time_n miss_v the_o will_n of_o god_n but_o that_o he_o do_v not_o observe_v his_o leader_n for_o i_o will_v give_v you_o the_o spirit_n say_v christ_n that_o shall_v lead_v you_o into_o all_o truth_n now_o if_o you_o observe_v not_o this_o leader_n this_o teacher_n it_o be_v very_o just_a that_o you_o shall_v be_v leave_v to_o wander_v and_o go_v out_o of_o the_o way_n if_o a_o christian_a will_v observe_v his_o way_n and_o observe_v his_o leader_n a_o christian_n may_v easy_o find_v when_o he_o be_v in_o and_o when_o he_o be_v out_o for_o true_o if_o a_o man_n will_v ask_v himself_o why_o do_v i_o miss_v the_o will_n of_o god_n so_o often_o since_o i_o have_v such_o a_o teacher_n promise_v i_o and_o give_v i_o by_o christ_n he_o must_v easy_o find_v when_o he_o begin_v to_o give_v over_o harken_v where_o he_o leave_v the_o teach_n of_o the_o spirit_n for_o in_o my_o apprehension_n a_o saint_n follow_v the_o holy_a ghost_n with_o a_o kind_n of_o sagacity_n if_o i_o may_v compare_v it_o with_o reverence_n just_a as_o we_o see_v the_o dog_n follow_v the_o hare_n there_o be_v something_o in_o nature_n that_o the_o dog_n know_v which_o way_n the_o hare_n go_v when_o a_o wise_a creature_n know_v not_o so_o there_o be_v something_o in_o a_o poor_a saint_n that_o when_o all_o the_o wise_a man_n in_o the_o world_n know_v not_o which_o way_n god_n go_v a_o saint_n can_v tell_v only_o the_o dog_n may_v hunt_v upon_o a_o cold_a send_v and_o think_v the_o hare_n go_v that_o way_n and_o it_o grow_v cold_a and_o cold_a and_o he_o miss_v so_o a_o saint_n shall_v find_v when_o he_o miss_v the_o will_n of_o god_n that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v not_o leave_v he_o unless_o it_o be_v very_o rare_a as_o the_o spirit_n leave_v christ_n to_o be_v tempt_v in_o the_o wilderness_n so_o he_o may_v leave_v thou_o to_o pull_v down_o thy_o pride_n and_o to_o humble_v thou_o isay_n that_o be_v rare_a but_o ordinary_o the_o spirit_n leave_v not_o thou_o but_o thou_o let_v go_v thy_o leader_n and_o thou_o go_v all_o the_o while_n on_o a_o cold_a send_v a_o saint_n though_o he_o headlong_o follow_v this_o or_o that_o conceit_n yet_o notwithstanding_o he_o may_v know_v when_o he_o come_v to_o look_v upon_o himself_o sure_o i_o go_v upon_o a_o cold_a send_v in_o those_o thing_n though_o i_o follow_v they_o we_o 1._o in_o dictate_v a_o world_n of_o prayer_n to_o we_o that_o you_o may_v see_v the_o greatness_n of_o his_o power_n what_o a_o world_n of_o prayer_n do_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n put_v into_o thy_o heart_n that_o thou_o be_v never_o able_a to_o utter_v with_o thy_o mouth_n all_o the_o wisdom_n in_o the_o world_n can_v make_v one_o spiritual_a petition_n we_o may_v make_v form_n of_o prayer_n but_o now_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o know_v the_o mind_n of_o god_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o make_v prayer_n according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o he_o pray_v with_o sigh_n and_o groan_v unutterable_a i_o speak_v to_o they_o that_o know_v the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n how_o many_o thousand_o prayer_n do_v god_n put_v into_o thy_o heart_n that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o thou_o to_o utter_v with_o thy_o mouth_n thou_o can_v not_o speak_v to_o god_n one_o petition_n of_o forty_o that_o the_o spirit_n put_v into_o thy_o heart_n that_o some_o conceive_v to_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o that_o in_o rom._n 8._o the_o spirit_n pray_v with_o sigh_n unutterable_a not_o because_o of_o our_o weakness_n but_o because_o of_o their_o strength_n and_o they_o be_v so_o numerous_a they_o be_v so_o many_o that_o when_o a_o poor_a saint_n go_v to_o pray_v one_o petition_n stop_v another_o and_o throng_n it_o out_o that_o he_o can_v utter_v it_o if_o the_o lord_n shall_v hear_v only_o those_o prayer_n that_o thou_o make_v with_o thy_o mouth_n thou_o will_v be_v but_o a_o poor_a man_n but_o the_o lord_n respect_v the_o prayer_n of_o the_o heart_n therefore_o i_o say_v to_o have_v power_n to_o make_v one_o prayer_n and_o to_o have_v such_o innumerable_a sigh_n and_o groan_n in_o the_o soul_n too_o it_o must_v be_v a_o exceed_o great_a power_n second_o consider_v this_o how_o much_o the_o spirit_n of_o not_o 2._o in_o supply_v we_o when_o we_o pray_v not_o god_n do_v for_o thou_o and_o in_o thou_o that_o thou_o never_o pray_v for_o nor_o never_o can_v pray_v for_o no_o not_o so_o much_o as_o in_o heart_n if_o the_o lord_n do_v answer_v all_o the_o prayer_n of_o heart_n and_o tongue_n that_o we_o make_v throughout_o all_o the_o year_n a_o man_n will_v think_v that_o be_v a_o great_a matter_n but_o sure_o they_o be_v so_o few_o consider_v our_o want_n and_o they_o be_v so_o confuse_v and_o blind_a that_o i_o be_o confident_a if_o god_n shall_v deal_v with_o thy_o soul_n and_o i_o according_a to_o our_o prayer_n all_o the_o year_n we_o shall_v be_v miserable_a creature_n all_o our_o life_n god_n exercise_v we_o to_o pray_v and_o many_o of_o they_o he_o answer_v in_o their_o kind_n and_o he_o be_v please_v with_o our_o obedience_n in_o every_o thing_n but_o sure_o god_n have_v a_o high_a rule_n of_o do_v we_o good_a and_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n work_v in_o a_o more_o methodical_a and_o wise_a and_o merciful_a and_o bless_a way_n than_o we_o can_v pray_v i_o have_v sometime_o wonder_v that_o god_n have_v make_v promise_n to_o answer_v many_o prayer_n that_o we_o make_v but_o i_o wonder_v more_o that_o god_n shall_v grant_v thing_n that_o we_o pray_v not_o for_o this_o be_v the_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o his_o power_n three_o consider_v the_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o his_o inward_o 3._o by_o teach_v we_o inward_o power_n in_o this_o respect_n in_o his_o teach_n how_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n teach_v his_o people_n and_o servant_n he_o teach_v they_o above_o what_o they_o be_v teach_v outward_o by_o man_n as_o thus_o cast_v with_o thyself_o suppose_v thou_o have_v every_o sermon_n that_o thou_o have_v hear_v in_o thy_o life_n and_o every_o lecture_n that_o thou_o have_v hear_v on_o the_o week_n day_n and_o on_o the_o lord_n day_n that_o thou_o have_v they_o in_o order_n and_o method_n suppose_v they_o be_v write_v in_o thy_o heart_n and_o fresh_a in_o thy_o memory_n that_o thou_o do_v understanding_n and_o remember_v every_o sermon_n that_o thou_o have_v hear_v which_o no_o man_n do_v a_o man_n will_v think_v such_o a_o one_o to_o be_v a_o very_a know_v man_n truly_n if_o thou_o have_v it_o so_o thou_o may_v be_v a_o miserable_a confuse_a blind_a man_n for_o all_o that_o for_o all_o that_o ever_o thou_o have_v hear_v preach_v thou_o may_v be_v a_o blind_a creature_n for_o alas_o our_o teach_n come_v with_o so_o much_o weakness_n and_o dross_n with_o it_o and_o one_o say_v and_z another_z unsaith_o and_o if_o we_o consider_v it_o in_o a_o natural_a way_n we_o shall_v never_o be_v make_v know_v man_n by_o all_o outward_a teach_n in_o the_o world_n but_o now_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n come_v in_o and_o he_o be_v please_v indeed_o to_o make_v use_n of_o it_o that_o we_o shall_v teach_v outward_o but_o alas_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n read_v such_o a_o lecture_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o saint_n and_o clear_v thing_n and_o order_n thing_n and_o assure_v thing_n and_o settle_v thing_n that_o be_v right_a and_o discover_v thing_n that_o be_v not_o and_o enlarge_v and_o sweeten_v and_o quicken_v they_o that_o it_o may_v be_v a_o man_n in_o hear_v one_o sermon_n of_o a_o hour_n long_o may_v be_v teach_v more_o than_o another_o man_n in_o hear_v sermon_n seven_o year_n together_o this_o be_v the_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o the_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o true_o belove_v i_o have_v often_o think_v with_o myself_o i_o speak_v not_o to_o disparage_v our_o teach_n and_o your_o hear_n but_o our_o come_n to_o teach_v and_o you_o to_o hear_v it_o be_v as_o your_o send_v your_o little_a child_n to_o school_n to_o keep_v their_o clothes_n clean_o and_o to_o keep_v they_o from_o play_n they_o learn_v nothing_o in_o a_o manner_n for_o your_o money_n only_o they_o be_v obedient_a to_o their_o parent_n and_o be_v quiet_a and_o be_v in_o the_o school_n where_o teach_v be_v so_o you_o come_v to_o hear_v and_o we_o to_o teach_v but_o all_o our_o teach_n in_o a_o manner_n be_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n therefore_o it_o be_v a_o wonderful_a thing_n to_o see_v how_o quick_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n will_v make_v a_o scholar_n ripe_a how_o in_o a_o quarter_n of_o a_o year_n nay_o in_o a_o month_n almost_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n will_v fill_v he_o with_o all_o spiritual_a learning_n whereas_o the_o best_a preacher_n in_o the_o world_n let_v he_o preach_v concise_o and_o exact_o in_o a_o natural_a way_n he_o shall_v not_o teach_v he_o the_o ten_o part_n nay_o we_o reach_v you_o we_o preach_v it_o may_v be_v four_o or_o five_o sermon_n and_o we_o open_v it_o as_o well_o we_o can_v poor_a earthen_a creature_n and_o when_o we_o come_v to_o look_v on_o it_o a_o quarter_n of_o a_o year_n after_o we_o find_v that_o those_o notion_n that_o it_o may_v be_v be_v so_o confuse_v and_o poor_a while_o we_o be_v teach_v you_o that_o there_o be_v a_o glorious_a piece_n make_v in_o your_o soul_n by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n though_o our_o note_n when_o they_o be_v do_v be_v scarce_o worth_a the_o burn_a must_v through_o much_o tribulation_n enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n in_o every_o sermon_n as_o we_o may_v say_v barnabas_n have_v something_o to_o strengthen_v the_o soul_n of_o the_o people_n to_o go_v through_o tribulation_n and_o affliction_n it_o may_v be_v another_o apostle_n have_v his_o spirit_n upon_o another_o work_n it_o may_v be_v in_o reference_n to_o this_o he_o give_v they_o this_o exhortation_n desire_v they_o with_o full_a purpose_n of_o heart_n to_o cleave_v to_o the_o lord_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v now_o you_o be_v in_o prosperity_n for_o so_o they_o be_v and_o be_v all_o ready_a to_o hear_v the_o gospel_n and_o receive_v it_o o_o say_v he_o but_o there_o be_v a_o time_n a_o come_n to_o try_v you_o and_o you_o must_v not_o think_v to_o run_v to_o heaven_n between_o two_o featherbed_n but_o as_o all_o the_o saint_n before_o have_v their_o share_n so_o every_o one_o that_o will_v live_v in_o christ_n jesus_n must_v suffer_v persecution_n as_o there_o be_v a_o statute_n in_o heaven_n for_o all_o man_n once_o to_o die_v so_o if_o you_o be_v saint_n you_o must_v live_v in_o tribulation_n and_o persecution_n and_o that_o be_v the_o way_n as_o christ_n be_v make_v perfect_a by_o suffering_n so_o you_o must_v come_v to_o salvation_n therefore_o when_o those_o thing_n come_v i_o have_v not_o much_o to_o say_v to_o you_o but_o o_o then_o remember_v to_o cleave_v to_o the_o lord_n for_o than_o you_o shall_v see_v hypocrite_n in_o drove_n go_v away_o from_o jesus_n christ_n and_o leave_v he_o one_o stumble_v at_o this_o another_z at_z that_o one_o be_v offend_v at_o the_o cross_n that_o it_o take_v away_o his_o credit_n another_o for_o his_o profit_n another_o his_o liberty_n another_o his_o trade_n but_o brethren_n i_o beseech_v you_o with_o full_a purpose_n of_o heart_n to_o cleave_v to_o the_o lord_n see_v how_o a_o company_n in_o john_n 6._o with_o one_o word_n

support_v affliction_n 4._o it_o be_v their_o support_n in_o affliction_n by_o the_o power_n of_o faith_n upon_o the_o word_n though_o there_o be_v nothing_o see_v and_o appear_v a_o natural_a man_n can_v hold_v up_o but_o sink_v further_o than_o there_o be_v some_o sensible_a visible_a thing_n to_o hold_v he_o up_o but_o the_o just_a those_o that_o be_v saint_n they_o have_v a_o art_n a_o mystical_a art_n whereby_o when_o they_o see_v nothing_o but_o have_v a_o word_n wherein_o god_n have_v promise_v to_o do_v this_o or_o that_o for_o they_o they_o can_v bear_v up_o themselves_o and_o so_o go_v on_o as_o cheerful_o as_o if_o they_o do_v enjoy_v or_o as_o if_o they_o do_v see_v their_o deliverance_n thus_o habakkuk_n we_o read_v this_o proverb_n verse_n 1_o 2_o 3._o the_o vision_n be_v for_o a_o appoint_a time_n in_o the_o end_n it_o will_v speak_v and_o not_o lie_v though_o it_o tarry_v wait_v for_o it_o because_o it_o will_v sure_o come_v it_o will_v not_o tarry_v behold_v his_o soul_n which_o be_v lift_v up_o be_v not_o upright_o in_o he_o but_o the_o just_a shall_v live_v by_o his_o faith_n there_o be_v a_o vision_n that_o do_v promise_v good_a to_o this_o people_n apostle_n they_o be_v in_o great_a affliction_n there_o be_v a_o promise_n that_o god_n will_v help_v they_o but_o what_o shall_v we_o do_v in_o the_o mean_a while_n while_o the_o grass_n grow_v in_o the_o mean_a while_o the_o just_a shall_v live_v by_o his_o faith_n he_o shall_v drive_v on_o and_o carry_v on_o the_o work_n and_o bear_v up_o himself_o and_o his_o spirit_n and_o his_o comfort_n and_o all_o on_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o he_o shall_v do_v all_o this_o by_o his_o faith_n so_o that_o this_o be_v the_o lesson_n short_o though_o i_o be_v not_o able_a yet_o to_o clear_v this_o full_o to_o you_o for_o true_o this_o be_v a_o lesson_n wherein_o we_o still_o shall_v want_v light_n we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o see_v it_o perfect_o it_o be_v from_o faith_n to_o faith_n you_o may_v live_v by_o faith_n first_o of_o all_o in_o the_o grosser_n part_n of_o it_o concern_v sanctification_n that_o be_v a_o easy_a thing_n to_o be_v understand_v that_o you_o will_v not_o regard_v or_o weigh_v any_o thing_n in_o all_o your_o profession_n but_o what_o do_v come_v from_o jesus_n christ_n by_o faith_n true_o much_o of_o our_o religion_n be_v a_o natural_a kind_n of_o religion_n and_o much_o of_o that_o which_o be_v like_o good_a in_o we_o do_v not_o spring_n from_o jesus_n christ_n and_o whatsoever_o be_v not_o from_o he_o will_v never_o be_v accept_v by_o he_o we_o have_v many_o moral_a virtue_n from_o old_a adam_n that_o we_o gild_v over_o and_o account_v they_o grace_n but_o god_n loathe_v they_o we_o have_v many_o duty_n that_o we_o have_v take_v up_o in_o the_o imitation_n of_o other_o by_o good_a education_n or_o the_o power_n of_o the_o letter_n preach_v to_o we_o and_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o the_o life_n of_o faith_n it_o be_v not_o holiness_n by_o faith_n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o not_o like_o many_o professor_n study_v the_o muchness_n of_o religion_n or_o the_o plausiblenesse_n of_o it_o without_o as_o that_o i_o be_o able_a to_o preach_v as_o other_o preacher_n do_v and_o you_o be_v able_a to_o pray_v in_o a_o day_n of_o humiliation_n as_o other_o professor_n do_v this_o be_v nothing_o but_o let_v we_o labour_v that_o that_o little_a holiness_n that_o be_v in_o we_o may_v clear_o proceed_v from_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n one_o have_v better_o have_v a_o garden_n of_o a_o few_o true_a and_o pleasant_a flower_n though_o there_o be_v but_o a_o few_o then_o to_o have_v a_o garden_n with_o some_o flower_n and_o a_o world_n of_o trash_n like_o flower_n there_o be_v no_o pleasure_n in_o it_o now_o i_o fear_v that_o much_o of_o thy_o best_a duty_n spring_v from_o old_a adam_n much_o of_o thy_o best_a prayer_n and_o much_o it_o may_v be_v of_o that_o religion_n whereby_o thou_o be_v account_v a_o professor_n much_o of_o it_o i_o fear_v be_v nothing_o but_o old_a adam_n and_o his_o ruin_n screw_v up_o and_o varnish_v or_o gild_a and_o not_o from_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o therefore_o remember_v this_o that_o as_o drunkenness_n and_o whoredom_n and_o those_o gross_a and_o scandalous_a work_n of_o darkness_n be_v call_v dead_a work_n so_o every_o grain_n every_o stamp_n of_o good_a in_o thou_o if_o it_o be_v not_o from_o the_o new_a adam_n it_o be_v but_o a_o dead_a work_n i_o can_v show_v you_o how_o you_o shall_v know_v the_o one_o from_o the_o other_o but_o that_o the_o time_n be_v short_a and_o i_o must_v not_o hinder_v other_o occasion_n therefore_o i_o leave_v that_o upon_o your_o thought_n that_o you_o may_v pray_v to_o the_o lord_n lord_n i_o do_v not_o care_v upon_o another_o and_o no_o work_v within_o to_o relieve_v we_o that_o i_o be_o able_a then_o to_o live_v by_o faith_n that_o be_v to_o see_v a_o righteousness_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o to_o build_v upon_o his_o word_n and_o covenant_n to_o hold_v myself_o and_o my_o assurance_n still_o i_o be_o a_o son_n still_o everlasting_a life_n belong_v to_o i_o still_o though_o i_o feel_v and_o see_v nothing_o but_o hell_n and_o something_o worse_a if_o it_o may_v be_v yet_o notwithstanding_o i_o be_o a_o saint_n and_o i_o be_o righteous_a and_o just_a and_o the_o lord_n be_v my_o father_n and_o have_v reserve_v everlasting_a life_n for_o i_o belove_a the_o life_n that_o christian_n ordinary_o do_v live_v it_o be_v a_o life_n mingle_v with_o faith_n and_o sense_n for_o if_o god_n give_v i_o free_a grace_n why_o shall_v not_o i_o rejoice_v in_o it_o if_o i_o clear_o see_v the_o first_o fruit_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n why_o shall_v i_o exclude_v my_o reason_n not_o to_o conclude_v that_o there_o be_v more_o grace_n behind_o but_o there_o be_v other_o saint_n that_o have_v a_o mixture_n of_o faith_n and_o sense_n that_o take_v away_o sense_n and_o their_o faith_n be_v go_v their_o faith_n be_v ground_v upon_o sense_n and_o i_o have_v oft_o time_n look_v in_o to_o my_o soul_n and_o think_v why_o the_o lord_n suffer_v i_o to_o be_v carry_v away_o with_o corruption_n and_o to_o be_v overwhelm_v with_o temptation_n whereas_o he_o hate_v these_o thing_n and_o i_o hate_v they_o and_o i_o weary_v
old_a but_o the_o way_n to_o heaven_n be_v so_o narrow_a that_o in_o the_o profession_n of_o religion_n abundance_n of_o they_o do_v fall_v away_o and_o few_o man_n fall_v away_o at_o the_o first_o but_o when_o the_o trial_n come_v when_o the_o sun_n arise_v as_o our_o lord_n say_v so_o a_o learned_a expositor_n upon_o it_o say_v that_o it_o may_v be_v thirty_o or_o forty_o or_o fifty_o or_o sixty_o year_n among_o professor_n there_o may_v be_v many_o hypocrite_n and_o there_o be_v more_o that_o have_v but_o a_o common_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n thereupon_o our_o lord_n speak_v only_o to_o professor_n such_o as_o they_o be_v matt._n 13._o where_o he_o say_v three_o of_o the_o four_o be_v rot_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o and_o the_o four_o only_o hold_v out_o some_o man_n sin_n be_v open_a before_o say_v paul_n and_o some_o follow_v after_o we_o see_v it_o by_o some_o man_n set_v out_o in_o religion_n they_o never_o come_v to_o any_o thing_n but_o some_o man_n sin_n follow_v after_o some_o man_n go_v far_o and_o walk_v glorious_o and_o afterward_o be_v discover_v and_o true_o it_o be_v a_o rule_n among_o the_o best_a of_o our_o minister_n that_o seldom_o or_o never_o hypocrite_n go_v out_o of_o this_o world_n undiscovered_a and_o hence_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v by_o the_o fall_v of_o hypocrite_n and_o those_o that_o have_v not_o a_o save_a work_n of_o grace_n that_o great_a one_o fall_v away_o and_o little_a low_a one_o outstrip_v they_o second_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o first_o be_v last_o and_o the_o last_o first_o because_o the_o lord_n for_o reason_n best_o know_v to_o himself_o for_o the_o most_o part_n so_o cast_v it_o that_o even_o among_o true_a professor_n true_a saint_n the_o most_o part_n of_o they_o when_o they_o grow_v ancient_a in_o religion_n especial_o they_o take_v a_o nap_n before_o they_o go_v hence_o they_o go_v as_o traveller_n in_o the_o way_n that_o go_v out_o betimes_o in_o the_o morning_n but_o take_v a_o bait_n of_o two_o or_o three_o hour_n in_o the_o way_n and_o so_o slow_a traveller_n get_v before_o they_o there_o be_v not_o one_o in_o ten_o ordinary_o but_o have_v a_o shrewd_a nap_n when_o he_o be_v ancient_a in_o religion_n before_o he_o go_v hence_o thereupon_o we_o see_v the_o ten_o virgin_n matt._n 25._o the_o wise_a virgin_n sleep_v as_o well_o as_o the_o foolish_a they_o all_o sleep_v but_o the_o wise_a virgin_n awake_v in_o time_n and_o get_v up_o again_o and_o the_o foolish_a sleep_v it_o out_o and_o while_o they_o be_v nap_v and_o sleep_v the_o first_o become_v last_v and_o the_o last_o first_o for_o we_o may_v not_o think_v that_o all_o such_o ancient_a professor_n that_o they_o have_v no_o grace_n we_o see_v now_o be_v there_o not_o some_o magistrate_n and_o many_o minister_n old_a non-conformists'_a that_o be_v now_o general_o nap_v and_o sleep_v that_o you_o will_v think_v there_o be_v nothing_o of_o god_n in_o they_o we_o may_v not_o think_v that_o they_o belong_v not_o to_o the_o lord_n and_o that_o they_o have_v no_o grace_n this_o be_v the_o time_n when_o many_o simple_a soul_n get_v into_o christ_n and_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n and_o have_v further_a enjoyment_n of_o spirit_n and_o communion_n of_o spirit_n with_o he_o than_o those_o grave_a minister_n and_o commonwealth_n man_n that_o before_o hold_v out_o religion_n more_o than_o other_o yet_o we_o be_v not_o to_o think_v that_o they_o have_v no_o grace_n therefore_o of_o this_o brief_o there_o be_v these_o four_o or_o five_o practical_a lesson_n that_o we_o shall_v learn_v the_o first_o be_v that_o all_o you_o that_o be_v ancient_a christian_n security_n 1._o use_v to_o avoid_v security_n ancient_a professor_n if_o you_o stand_v to_o take_v heed_n lest_o you_o fall_v how_o shall_v this_o i_o think_v make_v a_o ancient_a saint_n watch_v how_o shall_v he_o avoid_v security_n when_o it_o be_v ordinary_a for_o old_a christian_n to_o take_v a_o nap_n and_o so_o not_o to_o be_v high_o in_o heaven_n they_o lose_v much_o of_o their_o glory_n in_o heaven_n nay_o they_o lose_v their_o honour_n here_o you_o some_o man_n think_v they_o to_o be_v hypocrite_n therefore_o stand_v on_o your_o guard_n say_v not_o we_o have_v be_v professor_n twenty_o or_o thirty_o or_o forty_o year_n as_o ordinary_a professor_n brag_v of_o their_o stand_n in_o religion_n no_o but_o remember_v this_o lesson_n there_o be_v many_o first_o that_o shall_v be_v last_o therefore_o walk_v watchful_o and_o circumspect_o think_v with_o yourselves_o and_o o_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v open_v the_o eye_n of_o ancient_a christian_n in_o this_o city_n to_o see_v poor_a soul_n of_o a_o year_n or_o half_o a_o year_n stand_v start_v up_o that_o have_v more_o of_o christ_n in_o they_o and_o more_o clear_a knowledge_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o love_v he_o more_o and_o his_o saint_n and_o do_v more_o for_o he_o then_o they_o do_v o_o look_v about_o thou_o and_o consider_v with_o thyself_o that_o though_o thou_o be_v ancient_a and_o before_o that_o man_n or_o woman_n in_o christ_n yet_o thou_o may_v come_v a_o great_a while_n after_o he_o to_o heaven_n for_o all_o that_o therefore_o say_v paul_n i_o press_v hard_a to_o that_o which_o be_v before_o it_o be_v a_o comparrison_n from_o man_n that_o run_v in_o a_o race_n as_o the_o heathen_a poet_n say_v when_o a_o man_n run_v in_o a_o race_n he_o never_o look_v on_o the_o horse_n that_o be_v behind_o he_o but_o if_o there_o be_v one_o before_o he_o he_o look_v to_o that_o belove_a look_v that_o if_o thou_o be_v before_o other_o take_v heed_n that_o thou_o come_v not_o to_o the_o goal_n after_o they_o second_o let_v ancient_a professor_n ancient_a christian_n other_o 2._o not_o to_o contemn_v other_o learn_v not_o to_o despise_v and_o contemn_v weak_a saint_n young_a beginner_n nay_o not_o sinner_n themselves_o i_o have_v observe_v it_o to_o the_o grief_n of_o my_o soul_n with_o the_o bleed_n of_o my_o heart_n a_o great_a deal_n of_o contempt_n and_o disdain_n in_o the_o brow_n of_o some_o ancient_a christian_n against_o some_o weak_a saint_n take_v heed_n of_o it_o for_o though_o thou_o be_v first_o and_o great_a now_o thou_o be_v honour_v now_o as_o a_o excellent_a prayer_n in_o london_n as_o one_o excellent_a in_o a_o day_n of_o humiliation_n who_o know_v whether_o thou_o that_o be_v first_fw-mi may_v not_o be_v last_o therefore_o contemn_v not_o weak_a saint_n no_o nor_o sinner_n there_o be_v many_o a_o man_n that_o may_v be_v in_o the_o alehouse_n a_o drink_n and_o swear_v and_o whore_v and_o his_o quean_n with_o he_o that_o may_v be_v in_o heaven_n before_o thou_o therefore_o be_v tender_a to_o sinner_n especial_o if_o it_o be_v a_o saint_n that_o have_v any_o thing_n of_o god_n in_o he_o consider_v he_o that_o be_v first_o may_v be_v last_o and_o the_o last_o may_v be_v first_o three_o let_v weak_a saint_n and_o young_a beginner_n learn_v unreverent_o 3._o weak_a one_o not_o to_o bear_v themselves_o unreverent_o hence_o also_o as_o on_o the_o one_o side_n that_o i_o may_v put_v in_o that_o caveat_n not_o to_o behave_v themselves_o unreverent_o towards_o the_o ancient_a i_o will_v not_o have_v old_a saint_n to_o crow_v over_o the_o young_a muchlesse_a the_o young_a over_o the_o ancient_a say_v paul_n rebuke_v not_o a_o elder_a but_o rather_o exhort_v he_o if_o we_o in_o preach_v must_v not_o speak_v so_o sharp_o to_o ancient_a christian_n whether_o elder_n in_o office_n or_o rather_o in_o religion_n as_o i_o believe_v it_o be_v we_o must_v not_o rebuke_v he_o but_o speak_v with_o reverence_n so_o much_o more_o young_a christian_n must_v speak_v reverent_o of_o ancient_a christian_n and_o not_o say_v there_o go_v such_o a_o old_a professor_n and_o such_o a_o one_o say_v the_o first_o shall_v be_v last_o and_o so_o despise_v he_o no_o but_o as_o god_n have_v put_v the_o law_n of_o nature_n that_o the_o young_a shall_v observe_v the_o elder_a and_o the_o junior_a shall_v respect_v the_o senior_a so_o in_o grace_n and_o religion_n people_n must_v observe_v their_o duty_n therefore_o young_a woman_n must_v learn_v of_o the_o old_a and_o old_a woman_n shall_v be_v teacher_n of_o good_a thing_n to_o young_a woman_n not_o give_v to_o wine_n etc._n etc._n beware_v of_o petulant_a wanton_a carriage_n towards_o old_a professor_n so_o on_o the_o other_o side_n be_v not_o discourage_v by_o see_v the_o discourage_v neither_o to_o be_v discourage_v grace_n in_o ancient_a strong_a christian_n it_o be_v a_o ordinary_a thing_n for_o weak_a saint_n to_o be_v more_o discourage_v at_o the_o grace_n of_o strong_a saint_n then_o at_o any_o thing_n else_o as_o a_o weak_a eye_n that_o look_v on_o the_o sun_n can_v see_v just_a nothing_o so_o many_o a_o
well_o as_o hearer_n there_o be_v one_o thing_n more_o which_o be_v here_o lay_v down_o in_o this_o scripture_n that_o we_o must_v endeavour_n to_o do_v though_o when_o i_o speak_v of_o do_v when_o we_o teach_v you_o any_o spiritual_a gospel_n duty_n you_o must_v understand_v it_o in_o a_o gospel_n way_n not_o as_o though_o i_o say_v we_o can_v do_v this_o or_o that_o but_o we_o through_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n may_v do_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v command_v in_o the_o gospel_n therefore_o go_v not_o home_o and_o say_v we_o be_v dead_a and_o can_v do_v nothing_o etc._n etc._n to_o what_o end_n be_v all_o these_o precept_n lay_v on_o we_o but_o that_o we_o by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n may_v do_v they_o therefore_o i_o say_v there_o be_v one_o thing_n more_o for_o we_o to_o do_v before_o we_o can_v come_v right_o to_o love_v the_o brethren_n true_o there_o be_v many_o thing_n but_o that_o that_o i_o be_o now_o upon_o be_v the_o foundation_n what_o be_v for_o the_o build_n of_o we_o up_o i_o meddle_v not_o with_o now_o for_o till_o we_o come_v to_o do_v this_o we_o can_v love_v at_o all_o we_o can_v go_v one_o step_n in_o this_o bless_a work_n and_o that_o be_v
