this_o point_n 1._o i_o shall_v give_v you_o some_o proposition_n that_o be_v necessary_a for_o the_o full_a understanding_n of_o it_o 2._o i_o shall_v demonstrate_v the_o point_n to_o you_o by_o believe_v their_o profession_n not_o as_o we_o believe_v god_n who_o be_v infallible_a but_o as_o man_n that_o be_v fallible_a and_o this_o in_o several_a degree_n according_a to_o the_o several_a degree_n of_o their_o credibility_n and_o the_o probability_n of_o their_o profession_n so_o that_o you_o must_v not_o after_o this_o mistake_v i_o as_o if_o i_o tie_v our_o external_a church-communion_n only_o to_o true_a saint_n for_o than_o we_o must_v have_v communion_n with_o none_o because_o be_v not_o able_a to_o search_v the_o heart_n we_o know_v not_o what_o professor_n be_v sincere_a but_o yet_o even_a this_o external_n church-communion_n belong_v only_o to_o they_o that_o make_v profession_n of_o love_n and_o holiness_n as_o well_o as_o of_o belief_n and_o no_o low_a profession_n must_v serve_v the_o turn_n prop._n 2._o there_o be_v a_o common_a unity_n of_o humane_a nature_n that_o we_o have_v with_o all_o man_n and_o a_o common_a peace_n that_o as_o much_o as_o in_o we_o lie_v we_o must_v hold_v with_o all_o rom._n 12.18_o but_o this_o be_v nothing_o to_o the_o unity_n in_o question_n which_o belong_v to_o our_o happiness_n the_o devil_n have_v a_o holiness_n that_o be_v the_o unite_n principle_n and_o there_o be_v no_o true_a christian_a unity_n to_o be_v have_v with_o ungodly_a man_n never_o think_v of_o unity_n by_o any_o other_o way_n then_o sanctification_n you_o be_v as_o on_o the_o other_o side_n of_o the_o river_n and_o can_v be_v unite_v to_o the_o servant_n of_o christ_n till_o the_o spirit_n convert_v you_o and_o pass_v you_o over_o you_o be_v dead_a man_n and_o unfit_a to_o be_v unite_v to_o the_o live_n and_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n that_o quicken_v and_o this_o life_n must_v be_v our_o union_n you_o mad_o rail_v against_o division_n and_o yet_o stand_v at_o a_o distance_n from_o christ_n and_o his_o church_n and_o maintain_v the_o great_a division_n in_o the_o world_n believe_v it_o you_o do_v but_o dote_v and_o dream_v if_o you_o think_v to_o have_v true_a christian_a unity_n on_o any_o other_o term_n then_o by_o the_o sanctify_a spirit_n of_o christ._n and_o this_o i_o shall_v now_o evince_v as_o baptise_a into_o the_o name_n of_o the_o holy-ghost_n as_o your_o sanctifier_n to_o have_v a_o unity_n of_o be_v be_v common_a to_o we_o with_o the_o devil_n for_o they_o be_v god_n creature_n and_o so_o be_v we_o to_o have_v a_o union_n of_o specific_a be_v be_v common_a to_o we_o with_o all_o the_o damn_a for_o they_o be_v man_n as_o well_o as_o we_o and_o common_a to_o the_o devil_n among_o themselves_o but_o it_o must_v be_v a_o unity_n in_o the_o spirit_n of_o holiness_n that_o must_v prove_v we_o happy_a and_o afford_v we_o comfort_n 4._o there_o be_v no_o possibility_n of_o have_v unity_n with_o those_o that_o have_v not_o the_o same_o ultimate_a principal_a end_n but_o the_o sanctify_a and_o the_o unsanctified_a have_v not_o the_o same_o end_n nay_o have_v contrary_a end_n unity_n o_o what_o a_o happy_a church_n shall_v we_o have_v for_o all_o the_o sect_n that_o trouble_v we_o so_o much_o if_o it_o be_v not_o for_o ungodliness_n that_o animate_v some_o of_o those_o sect_n and_o virtual_o contain_v many_o more_o have_v we_o none_o but_o man_n fear_v god_n to_o deal_v with_o we_o shall_v have_v no_o opposition_n to_o the_o essential_o of_o religion_n and_o we_o shall_v still_o have_v the_o comfort_n of_o agree_v with_o they_o in_o all_o thing_n necessary_a to_o salvation_n they_o will_v carry_v on_o their_o difference_n in_o christian_a meekness_n charity_n and_o moderation_n and_o at_o the_o worst_a our_o agreement_n will_v be_v great_a than_o our_o disagreement_n but_o when_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o hater_n of_o holiness_n or_o at_o least_o with_o man_n that_o be_v stranger_n to_o the_o sanctify_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n we_o have_v predominant_a pride_n and_o selfishness_n and_o covetousness_n to_o strive_v against_o we_o have_v radicate_v infidelity_n and_o enmity_n to_o god_n and_o holiness_n give_v life_n and_o strength_n to_o all_o their_o error_n and_o make_v they_o stubborn_a and_o wilful_a and_o scornful_a against_o the_o clear_a truth_n that_o can_v be_v show_v they_o there_o be_v no_o deal_n effectual_o with_o a_o carnal_a heart_n for_o any_o but_o god_n himself_o unless_o we_o can_v create_v light_n in_o they_o as_o well_o as_o reveal_v the_o truth_n to_o they_o what_o good_a can_v we_o do_v they_o what_o good_a do_v the_o sun_n to_o a_o man_n that_o be_v blind_a they_o have_v understanding_n leave_v leave_v the_o infallible_a judgement_n to_o god_n it_o be_v only_o â—eal_a saint_n that_o have_v the_o internal_a special_a unity_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o save_a communion_n but_o its_o professor_n of_o faith_n and_o holiness_n thaâ—_n must_v have_v external_a communion_n wiâ—h_v we_o in_o ordinance_n as_o they_o have_v a_o visible_a union_n of_o profession_n with_o the_o church_n but_o if_o they_o profess_v not_o holiness_n they_o ought_v not_o to_o have_v any_o christian_a communion_n at_o all_o o_o christian_n keep_v close_o to_o christ_n the_o centre_n of_o your_o unity_n and_o the_o of_o the_o two_o we_o can_v better_o bear_v hypocrite_n than_o persecutor_n 2._o and_o it_o somewhat_o tie_v their_o tongue_n from_o reproach_v the_o faith_n and_o argue_v against_o it_o and_o seduce_a other_o from_o it_o and_o of_o the_o two_o it_o will_v be_v more_o hurtful_a to_o the_o church_n to_o have_v these_o man_n open_a enemy_n to_o the_o truth_n and_o bend_v their_o wit_n and_o tongue_n against_o it_o and_o to_o have_v the_o multitude_n assault_v their_o neighbour_n with_o invective_n and_o cavil_n against_o religion_n then_o to_o have_v they_o false_o pretend_v to_o be_v religious_a 3._o and_o it_o be_v a_o great_a mercy_n to_o the_o church_n hereby_o to_o have_v the_o benefit_n of_o these_o man_n common_a part_n and_o interest_n when_o they_o profess_v the_o same_o religion_n with_o we_o though_o unsound_o yet_o it_o engage_v they_o to_o stand_v for_o the_o religion_n which_o they_o profess_v and_o their_o illumination_n and_o conviction_n may_v lead_v they_o to_o do_v much_o service_n for_o the_o truth_n by_o this_o mean_v many_o hand_n be_v at_o work_n to_o build_v up_o the_o church_n of_o christ._n and_o by_o this_o mean_v the_o life_n of_o many_o faithful_a christian_n be_v preserve_v and_o their_o estate_n much_o spare_v many_o have_v skill_n in_o building_n that_o be_v not_o true_a heir_n of_o the_o house_n which_o they_o build_v many_o have_v excellent_a gift_n for_o preach_v and_o expound_v scripture_n by_o which_o the_o church_n may_v be_v edify_v and_o the_o truth_n defend_v against_o the_o adversary_n when_o yet_o the_o same_o man_n may_v themselves_o be_v destitute_a of_o the_o power_n of_o this_o truth_n the_o church_n have_v great_a cause_n to_o be_v thankful_a to_o god_n for_o the_o gift_n of_o many_o a_o unsanctified_a man_n have_v the_o church_n be_v deny_v the_o ministry_n and_o gift_n of_o all_o mâ—n_z except_z saint_n it_o will_v have_v be_v confine_v to_o a_o narrow_a room_n and_o many_o a_o soul_n may_v have_v beâ—n_o unconuâ—rted_v that_o have_v be_v call_v by_o the_o ministry_n of_o unsanctified_a man_n by_o some_o such_o do_v god_n work_v miracle_n themselves_o for_o the_o confirmation_n of_o the_o christian_a faith_n and_o in_o time_n of_o war_n if_o the_o church_n have_v none_o but_o saint_n to_o fight_v for_o they_o it_o can_v not_o stand_v without_o a_o continue_a miracle_n and_o if_o we_o have_v not_o the_o daily_a help_n of_o other_o in_o civil_a and_o secular_a affair_n we_o shall_v find_v by_o the_o miss_n of_o it_o what_o a_o mercy_n we_o undervalue_v be_v every_o unregenerate_a man_n a_o open_a enemy_n to_o the_o church_n we_o shall_v live_v as_o patridge_n and_o such_o other_o bird_n that_o must_v hide_v themselves_o from_o every_o passenger_n 4._o moreover_o this_o profession_n of_o hypocrite_n do_v much_o restrain_v they_o from_o many_o a_o sin_n by_o which_o god_n will_v be_v much_o dishonour_v and_o the_o church_n more_o wrong_v and_o the_o godly_a more_o grieve_v and_o the_o open_a enemy_n more_o encourage_v 5._o and_o also_o it_o be_v some_o honour_n to_o the_o gospel_n in_o the_o eye_n of_o man_n to_o have_v a_o multitude_n of_o professor_n shall_v christ_n visible_a church_n be_v as_o narrow_a as_o the_o mystical_a and_o shall_v none_o be_v professor_n of_o the_o faith_n but_o those_o few_o that_o be_v sanctify_v believer_n the_o paucity_n of_o christian_n and_o narrowness_n of_o the_o church_n will_v be_v a_o dishonour_n to_o christ_n in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n and_o will_v hinder_v the_o conversion_n of_o many_o a_o soul._n all_o this_o i_o have_v say_v that_o you_o may_v see_v that_o we_o do_v not_o despise_v a_o unity_n in_o profession_n and_o that_o we_o be_v not_o of_o those_o that_o will_v have_v all_o hypocrite_n and_o common_a professor_n shut_v out_o yea_o that_o we_o take_v ourselves_o bind_v to_o be_v very_o thankful_a to_o god_n for_o the_o mercy_n which_o he_o vouchsafe_v we_o by_o the_o gift_n and_o favour_n and_o help_v and_o interest_n of_o many_o such_o professor_n and_o such_o a_o unity_n of_o profession_n we_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o our_o power_n hearty_o to_o promote_v as_o know_v that_o the_o church_n as_o visible_a consist_v of_o such_o professor_n 2._o but_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o i_o must_v come_v close_o to_o your_o objection_n and_o tell_v you_o that_o this_o unity_n of_o mere_a profession_n be_v comparative_o so_o poor_a a_o kind_n of_o unity_n that_o this_o will_v not_o this_o must_v not_o satisfy_v we_o and_o serve_v the_o turn_n which_o i_o desire_v you_o to_o observe_v in_o these_o discovery_n 1._o this_o unity_n in_o mere_a profession_n be_v proper_o no_o christian_a unity_n because_o you_o be_v not_o proper_o christian_n if_o this_o be_v all_o it_o be_v but_o in_o the_o bark_n and_o shell_n that_o we_o be_v agree_v it_o be_v but_o a_o seem_a agreement_n from_o the_o tooth_n outward_a but_o not_o a_o hearty_a agreement_n to_o be_v christian_n what!_o shall_v we_o all_o agree_v to_o say_v we_o be_v christian_n when_o with_o most_o it_o be_v not_o so_o for_o all_o this_o agreement_n you_o will_v still_o have_v one_o father_n and_o we_o another_o you_o will_v not_o be_v unite_v with_o we_o in_o christ_n the_o head_n you_o will_v not_o have_v the_o same_o holy_a spirit_n who_o be_v the_o life_n of_o the_o new_a creature_n you_o will_v be_v contrary_a to_o we_o in_o nature_n or_o disposition_n you_o will_v not_o have_v the_o same_o intention_n and_o ultimate_a end_n with_o we_o but_o you_o will_v aâ—m_v at_o one_o thing_n and_o we_o at_o another_o you_o will_v not_o go_v the_o same_o way_n nor_o walk_v by_o the_o same_o rule_n and_o law_n as_o we_o it_o will_v be_v but_o a_o tie_n â—ogâ—ther_o the_o live_n and_o the_o dead_a bellâ—râ—ine_v himself_o confess_v that_o the_o ungodly_a be_v but_o dead_a member_n it_o be_v not_o life_n that_o unit_v a_o dead_a member_n to_o the_o live_n you_o will_v bâ—_n stilâ—_n either_o open_o or_o secret_o betray_v the_o body_n to_o which_o you_o profess_v yourselves_o unite_v and_o take_v part_n with_o its_o deadly_a enemy_n the_o flesh_n the_o world_n and_o the_o devil_n your_o very_a heart_n and_o we_o will_v still_o be_v contrary_a you_o will_v love_v the_o sin_n that_o we_o hate_v and_o set_v ourselves_o against_o and_o you_o will_v dis-relish_a that_o holy_a heavenly_a life_n which_o must_v be_v our_o business_n and_o delight_n your_o affection_n will_v go_v one_o way_n and_o we_o another_o you_o will_v live_v by_o sense_n when_o we_o must_v live_v by_o faith_n and_o you_o will_v
