or_o most_o take_v up_o about_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n so_o to_o be_v heavenly_a in_o our_o conversation_n be_v to_o have_v the_o mind_n take_v up_o about_o heaven_n prize_v affect_v and_o seek_v after_o heaven_n and_o heavenly_a thing_n as_o the_o word_n be_v col._n 3.1_o seek_v after_o or_o set_v your_o affection_n on_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v above_o second_o as_o it_o import_v prize_v and_o affect_v of_o heaven_n and_o of_o heavenly_a thing_n so_o it_o import_v the_o take_n of_o that_o way_n that_o lead_v to_o the_o end_n and_o so_o it_o be_v to_o be_v in_o the_o use_n of_o all_o mean_n and_o duty_n that_o lead_v to_o heaven_n seek_v say_v the_o apostle_n in_o that_o col._n 3.1_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v above_o set_v your_o affection_n on_o thing_n above_o not_o on_o thing_n beneath_o or_o on_o the_o earth_n to_o hold_v forth_o the_o earnestness_n and_o ardency_n of_o affection_n that_o christian_n ought_v to_o have_v towards_o thing_n heavenly_a and_o how_o very_o much_o they_o shall_v be_v with_o holy_a care_n and_o solicitude_n busy_v in_o the_o use_n of_o all_o mean_n and_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o all_o duty_n for_o the_o further_a and_o promote_a of_o a_o heavenly_a design_n even_o as_o worldly_a man_n be_v take_v up_o and_o exercise_v with_o cark_n care_n leave_v as_o it_o be_v no_o stone_n unmoved_a to_o promove_v and_o compass_v their_o the_o second_o thing_n propose_v viz._n the_o confirmation_n of_o this_o that_o a_o christian_n shall_v study_v this_o heavenliness_n of_o conversation_n the_o argument_n be_v clear_a and_o press_v proof_n than_o the_o history_n of_o god_n people_n their_o deal_n with_o he_o which_o hold_v out_o clear_o and_o convince_o the_o strong_a propension_n and_o bent_n of_o heart_n that_o be_v natural_o their_o score_n and_o lie_v down_o and_o rise_v up_o without_o god_n company_n even_o this_o that_o they_o never_o have_v it_o and_o be_v never_o trouble_v for_o the_o want_n of_o it_o they_o be_v never_o convince_v and_o make_v sensible_a of_o their_o sin_n now_o this_o conviction_n be_v not_o simple_o to_o know_v that_o we_o have_v sin_n as_o many_o take_v it_o to_o be_v who_o think_v it_o enough_o that_o they_o know_v that_o they_o be_v sinner_n but_o it_o be_v such_o a_o conviction_n as_o arrest_v the_o sinner_n before_o god_n and_o put_v he_o to_o answer_v for_o his_o sin_n it_o be_v like_o a_o officer_n come_v with_o a_o order_n to_o put_v a_o man_n in_o prison_n for_o debt_n be_v may_v go_v confident_o and_o stout_o enough_o up_o and_o down_o the_o street_n under_o the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o debt_n but_o when_o he_o be_v arrest_v for_o it_o by_o the_o officer_n it_o affect_v he_o and_o touch_v he_o in_o the_o quick_a so_o be_v it_o with_o a_o soul_n thorough_o convince_v of_o sin_n man_n may_v know_v that_o they_o be_v sinner_n but_o the_o conscience_n for_o a_o time_n may_v not_o much_o trouble_v they_o and_o they_o may_v take_v on_o more_o to_o a_o long_a day_n and_o shift_v challenge_n and_o conviction_n but_o when_o the_o conscience_n awake_v and_o the_o law_n arrest_v they_o the_o matter_n sink_v deep_a on_o they_o will_v you_o then_o know_v what_o be_v a_o suitable_a frame_n for_o fast_v and_o communicate_v we_o will_v commend_v this_o to_o you_o even_o to_o study_v a_o thorowness_n of_o the_o conviction_n of_o sin_n and_o to_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o distance_n that_o be_v betwixt_o god_n and_o you_o and_o narrow_o to_o observe_v whether_o he_o be_v present_a or_o absent_a it_o be_v very_o sad_a and_o much_o to_o be_v lament_a that_o many_o who_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o way_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v so_o strong_o persuade_v of_o the_o goodness_n of_o their_o condition_n that_o there_o be_v no_o access_n for_o any_o word_n so_o delusory_a because_o they_o have_v not_o have_v a_o right_a rise_n from_o conviction_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o distance_n from_o god_n put_v you_o on_o to_o repentance_n and_o covenant_v with_o he_o but_o because_o several_a person_n will_v be_v ready_a to_o think_v and_o say_v that_o they_o have_v conviction_n of_o sin_n as_o indeed_o there_o be_v much_o ground_n and_o reason_n for_o they_o i_o shall_v point_v at_o some_o conviction_n for_o which_o there_o be_v just_a ground_n and_o whereby_o you_o may_v know_v if_o your_o conviction_n have_v be_v through_o and_o sound_a most_o whereof_o presence_n and_o of_o the_o want_n of_o communion_n and_o fellowship_n with_o he_o â—hey_n know_v not_o well_o where_o he_o be_v but_o they_o be_v a_o king_n after_o he_o three_o there_o be_v a_o ardent_a affection_n and_o serious_a desire_n to_o be_v at_o he_o and_o in_o covenant_n with_o he_o a_o heart_n fill_v with_o love_n to_o god_n whereby_o it_o be_v soften_v and_o make_v to_o flow_v down_o as_o wax_v by_o the_o fire_n be_v melt_v and_o the_o hard_a iron_n make_v soft_a four_o there_o be_v a_o holy_a fear_n and_o carefulness_n whereby_o the_o heart_n be_v keep_v from_o grow_v cold_a and_o indifferent_a as_o to_o this_o condition_n and_o from_o settle_v and_o sit_v down_o in_o it_o such_o a_o fear_n and_o tremble_a as_o old_a eli_n have_v 1_o sam._n 4._o for_o the_o ark_n whereby_o he_o be_v keep_v in_o a_o fright_n here_o be_v go_v and_o weep_v with_o a_o holy_a fear_n lest_o the_o covenant_n be_v again_o break_v five_o there_o be_v a_o self_n loathe_v kindly_a do_v all_o this_o present_o for_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o allow_v we_o to_o give_v you_o a_o hour_n or_o to_o promise_v to_o treat_v with_o you_o one_o hour_n after_o this_o it_o be_v now_o come_v and_o let_v we_o join_v ourselves_o to_o the_o lord_n it_o be_v no_o difficult_a thing_n that_o you_o be_v call_v to_o it_o be_v to_o believe_v with_o the_o heart_n and_o to_o confess_v with_o the_o to_o he_o both_o for_o holiness_n and_o happiness_n and_o it_o shall_v be_v a_o bargain_n the_o lord_n himself_o persuade_v you_o to_o do_v so_o and_o that_o present_o without_o delay_v dally_v or_o shift_v and_o off_o put_v now_o it_o may_v be_v that_o some_o think_v this_o to_o be_v a_o good_a bargain_n but_o they_o know_v not_o how_o to_o make_v it_o sure_a and_o sike_a so_o as_o it_o may_v hold_v for_o ever_o and_o therefore_o this_o be_v the_o last_o thing_n that_o in_o the_o four_o place_n we_o will_v speak_v a_o little_a to_o viz._n how_o shall_v a_o person_n covenant_n with_o god_n and_o know_v that_o he_o have_v do_v so_o in_o very_a deed_n for_o the_o direction_n how_o to_o covenant_n be_v so_o many_o evidence_n of_o covenant_v when_o perform_v for_o direction_n then_o in_o this_o matter_n we_o will_v in_o general_a in_o the_o first_o place_n have_v ground_n to_o suppose_v and_o take_v it_o for_o grant_v that_o you_o know_v what_o you_o be_v even_o sinner_n and_o that_o sin_n have_v lay_v the_o foundation_n of_o a_o quarrel_n betwixt_o god_n and_o you_o and_o that_o you_o know_v what_o he_o be_v a_o design_v and_o do_v by_o this_o preach_v gospel_n even_o to_o bring_v sinner_n into_o this_o covenant_n and_o to_o have_v a_o union_n make_v up_o betwixt_o he_o and_o they_o but_o you_o will_v belike_o say_v i_o know_v not_o how_o to_o make_v it_o sure_a there_o be_v no_o answer_n to_o this_o but_z be_v do_v till_o you_o get_v it_o make_v suâ—e_n for_o your_o unsureness_n must_v flow_v either_o from_o something_o on_o god_n side_n or_o from_o something_o on_o your_o side_n you_o dare_v not_o i_o suppose_v say_v that_o it_o flow_v from_o any_o thing_n on_o god_n side_n or_o if_o you_o shall_v this_o be_v the_o way_n to_o make_v he_o sure_o to_o speak_v so_o and_o if_o it_o flow_v from_o something_o on_o your_o side_n he_o bid_v you_o return_v back_o slide_a child_n and_o he_o will_v heal_v your_o back_n sliding_n and_o make_v it_o sure_o but_o in_o the_o next_o place_n and_o more_o particular_o consider_v 1._o your_o end_n and_o design_n what_o yeâ—_n will_v be_v at_o you_o may_v have_v some_o general_a aim_n at_o something_o that_o be_v good_a in_o itself_o but_o that_o be_v not_o enough_o iâ—_n must_v be_v something_o more_o particular_a and_o peculiar_a be_v 〈◊〉_d to_o get_v god_n to_o be_v your_o god_n do_v that_o fill_n your_o eyeâ—_n be_v it_o to_o get_v your_o back_n sliding_n heal_v as_o well_o as_o pardon_v that_o be_v right_a if_o your_o aim_n be_v to_o have_v god_n and_o spâ—rituall_a good_a i_o mention_v this_o the_o rather_o because_o somâ—_n may_v love_v god_n and_o the_o covenant_n for_o some_o temporaâ—_n good_a whereas_o other_o love_v he_o and_o his_o covenant_n main_o for_o a_o spiritual_a good_a and_o think_v make_v conform_v to_o he_o in_o holiness_n be_v good_a and_o desirable_a and_o neither_o selfish_n nor_o servile_a aâ—â—_n mercenary_a as_o it_o be_v no_o unkindlie-like_a token_n in_o a_o wife_n to_o love_v her_o husband_n to_o be_v delight_v in_o he_o and_o to_o like_v well_o to_o enjoy_v his_o company_n so_o it_o be_v a_o kindly_a like_o mark_n for_o a_o soul_n to_o love_n god_n on_o the_o account_n of_o the_o happiness_n and_o holiness_n that_o be_v to_o be_v have_v in_o he_o and_o from_o he_o love_n to_o god_n shoulder_n not_o out_o all_o regard_n and_o love_n to_o ourselves_o simple_o but_o it_o shoulder_n out_o love_v to_o lust_n and_o all_o inordinat_a love_n to_o self_n and_o to_o every_o idol_n nay_o it_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o true_a love_n to_o god_n not_o to_o care_v whether_o we_o be_v happy_a in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o he_o or_o not_o 2._o consider_v how_o and_o by_o what_o mean_n and_o on_o what_o term_n you_o seek_v to_o come_v at_o that_o end_n be_v you_o secure_a and_o senseless_a of_o your_o sin_n &_o misery_n without_o god_n it_o be_v very_o like_a that_o you_o make_v but_o a_o blind_a bargain_n whereof_o you_o will_v have_v no_o real_a advantage_n but_o have_v you_o any_o kindly_a touch_n of_o your_o sin_n and_o misery_n and_o of_o your_o need_n of_o a_o saviour_n and_o have_v you_o recourse_n to_o he_o as_o one_o able_a to_o save_v to_o the_o uttermost_a all_o that_o come_v unto_o god_n through_o he_o and_o who_o live_v for_o ever_o to_o make_v intercession_n for_o they_o you_o may_v know_v somewhat_o of_o your_o sincerity_n in_o covenant_v with_o god_n by_o the_o way_n that_o you_o come_v to_o he_o 3._o what_o use_v make_v you_o of_o the_o mediator_n when_o you_o be_v come_v to_o he_o be_v your_o peace_n with_o god_n and_o your_o hope_n of_o hold_v by_o the_o bargain_n ground_v on_o he_o do_v you_o lay_v the_o weight_n of_o all_o the_o good_a you_o expect_v on_o his_o mediation_n on_o his_o satisfaction_n and_o intercession_n on_o his_o purchase_n do_v you_o hold_v all_o through_o he_o that_o be_v a_o good_a token_n 4._o be_v you_o content_a to_o give_v to_o god_n as_o well_o as_o to_o take_v from_o he_o to_o devote_v yourselves_o to_o he_o for_o service_n as_o well_o as_o to_o enjoy_v he_o and_o happiness_n in_o he_o this_o also_o be_v a_o good_a token_n as_o well_o as_o a_o direction_n 5._o be_v you_o in_o much_o holy_a fear_n and_o jealousy_n of_o backslide_n and_o be_v it_o in_o your_o eye_n and_o aim_v purposely_o to_o article_n this_o with_o the_o lord_n to_o put_v his_o fear_n in_o your_o heart_n that_o you_o may_v not_o depart_v from_o he_o many_o person_n will_v sometime_o in_o a_o warm_a fit_a or_o in_o a_o good_a mood_n as_o we_o use_v to_o speak_v come_v far_o on_o as_o agrippa_n do_v but_o quick_o fall_v off_o and_o return_v to_o their_o wont_a bias_n coldness_n and_o indifferency_n therefore_o in_o your_o covenant_n with_o god_n there_o will_v be_v much_o holy_a fear_n lest_o it_o be_v not_o sound_a lest_o it_o bold_a not_o let_v your_o soul_n say_v now_o i_o be_o absolute_o and_o unreserved_o give_v away_o to_o god_n not_o by_o mortgage_n or_o wodset_n sacrament_n to_o get_v as_o they_o think_v some_o good_a but_o come_v
not_o to_o the_o covenant_n to_o be_v real_o anâ—_n perpetual_o join_v to_o the_o lord_n himself_o 7._o you_o woulâ—_n seek_v after_o some_o heart-warming_a by_o god_n spirit_n within_o you_o and_o some_o lively_a exercise_n of_o your_o faith_n in_o he_o aâ—_n you_o see_v to_o be_v in_o this_o people_n case_n 8._o person_n that_o arâ—_n in_o earnest_n will_v be_v much_o affect_v with_o by-gone_a slip_n fail_n and_o unfaithful_a deal_n with_o god_n and_o be_v afraid_a oâ—_n fall_v back_o and_o of_o deal_v loose_o with_o the_o lord_n anâ—_n this_o put_v they_o on_o to_o be_v more_o solicitous_a and_o careful_a to_o take_v on_o the_o mo_z band_n and_o to_o cast_v the_o knot_n the_o fasteâ—_n because_o the_o heart_n be_v deceitful_a come_v say_v they_o here_o and_o let_v we_o join_v ourselves_o to_o the_o lord_n in_o a_o perpetual_a covenant_n never_o to_o be_v forget_v n_o they_o be_v not_o content_a wiâ—_n a_o covenant_n except_o it_o be_v sike_a the_o heart_n protest_v against_o itself_o if_o it_o shall_v draw_v back_o and_o resign_v and_o râ—nounces_v its_o liberty_n to_o do_v so_o any_o more_o if_o it_o may_v be_v caâ—â—ed_v liberty_n 9_o a_o person_n will_v aim_v shall_v get_v no_o good_a of_o the_o sacrament_n because_o they_o resolve_v not_o to_o take_v christ_n to_o fulfil_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n in_o they_o and_o be_v not_o in_o earnest_a to_o be_v in_o under_o the_o bond_n of_o the_o covenant_n yet_o if_o even_o such_o will_v serious_o resolve_v to_o fulfil_v the_o condition_n or_o rather_o to_o take_v christ_n to_o help_v they_o to_o fulfil_v it_o they_o shall_v be_v welcome_a or_o they_o be_v such_o as_o be_v doubt_v though_o they_o have_v some_o honest_a desire_n such_o will_v remember_v the_o bargain_n be_v mutual_a and_o they_o must_v engage_v to_o god_n if_o they_o will_v have_v god_n engage_v to_o they_o and_o if_o you_o have_v not_o do_v it_o before_o do_v it_o even_o now_o and_o the_o sacrament_n shall_v be_v useful_a and_o helpful_a to_o you_o in_o these_o respect_n more_o particular_o 1._o for_o seal_v this_o general_a trutâ—_n if_o i_o believe_v in_o christ_n i_o shall_v have_v eternal_a life_n in_o
