for_o while_o thou_o be_v struggle_v and_o strive_v with_o those_o thought_n thou_o be_v strive_v with_o the_o corruption_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o with_o the_o devil_n all_o alone_a but_o now_o when_o thou_o fall_v to_o the_o duty_n thou_o call_v in_o the_o help_n of_o god_n and_o of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o that_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n better_o while_o thou_o be_v muse_v plod_a and_o trouble_v thy_o heart_n that_o way_n i_o say_v thou_o be_v struggle_v alone_o but_o now_o when_o thou_o fall_v upon_o the_o duty_n than_o thou_o call_v in_o help_n from_o god_n and_o so_o thou_o be_v more_o able_a to_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o duty_n than_o thou_o be_v before_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v the_o best_a way_n to_o fall_v upon_o a_o duty_n though_o thou_o can_v not_o find_v thy_o heart_n prepare_v as_o thou_o do_v desire_v the_o very_a fall_n upon_o it_o will_v fit_v thou_o for_o it_o and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o answer_n unto_o those_o two_o case_n of_o conscience_n now_o than_o we_o be_v to_o proceed_v further_o in_o the_o open_n of_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o preparation_n of_o the_o heart_n but_o when_o the_o heart_n come_v to_o it_o in_o what_o manner_n shall_v the_o duty_n be_v perform_v so_o as_o the_o name_n of_o god_n may_v be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o duty_n or_o what_o be_v the_o behaviour_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n when_o it_o be_v in_o the_o very_a act_n of_o the_o duty_n to_o that_o i_o answer_v first_o in_o general_a thus_o when_o the_o soul_n labour_v to_o perform_v duty_n so_o as_o god_n may_v have_v such_o glory_n from_o the_o duty_n aâ—_n be_v fit_a for_o a_o god_n to_o have_v in_o some_o measure_n then_o do_v i_o sanctify_v god_n name_n you_o will_v say_v this_o be_v a_o very_a hard_a thing_n to_o perform_v a_o duty_n so_o as_o that_o we_o shall_v give_v god_n the_o glory_n that_o be_v fit_a for_o a_o god_n to_o have_v certain_o this_o be_v not_o do_v by_o every_o manner_n of_o performance_n of_o a_o duty_n of_o worship_n yet_o you_o shall_v hear_v this_o open_v to_o you_o and_o i_o hope_v you_o shall_v have_v it_o make_v very_o plain_a before_o you_o first_o therefore_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o that_o when_o we_o be_v to_o perform_v a_o duty_n of_o worship_n we_o shall_v set_v ourselves_o to_o glorify_v god_n as_o a_o god_n that_o be_v to_o do_v it_o in_o that_o manner_n that_o god_n may_v have_v that_o glory_n that_o be_v fit_a for_o a_o god_n to_o have_v as_o now_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o praise_n psal_n 66._o 2._o that_o first_o set_v upon_o the_o duty_n of_o religion_n young_a beginner_n that_o begin_v at_o first_o to_o set_v their_o face_n towards_o heaven_n to_o worship_n god_n they_o have_v need_n look_v to_o their_o heart_n they_o shall_v spend_v some_o time_n in_o preparation_n when_o they_o come_v to_o holy_a duty_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v when_o the_o conscience_n of_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v at_o first_o enlighten_v and_o awaken_v they_o will_v be_v very_o careful_a in_o prepare_v to_o holy_a duty_n the_o fear_n of_o god_n it_o be_v mighty_a upon_o their_o spirit_n at_o first_o and_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v less_o afterward_o the_o constancy_n of_o god_n fear_v shall_v bring_v their_o heart_n to_o such_o a_o holy_a temper_n as_o to_o make_v they_o fit_a for_o holy_a duty_n always_o second_o those_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o any_o time_n shall_v sin_v against_o conscience_n shall_v commit_v such_o sin_n as_o shall_v in_o a_o kind_n even_o lie_v waste_a conscience_n shall_v break_v their_o peace_n between_o god_n and_o their_o soul_n they_o have_v need_n spend_v some_o time_n in_o preparation_n for_o holy_a duty_n they_o can_v come_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n to_o enjoy_v communion_n with_o god_n but_o they_o have_v need_v beforehand_o be_v very_o serious_a in_o the_o examination_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o to_o endeavour_v the_o work_n of_o their_o heart_n into_o mourning_n for_o their_o sin_n and_o to_o labour_v to_o possess_v their_o soul_n with_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n even_o before_o they_o come_v these_o two_o sort_n of_o people_n such_o as_o have_v not_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o way_n of_o godliness_n or_o such_o as_o have_v break_v their_o peace_n with_o god_n by_o some_o evil_a carriage_n of_o they_o towards_o god_n in_o some_o vile_a way_n i_o say_v it_o be_v requy_v of_o they_o to_o be_v more_o solemn_a in_o the_o work_n of_o preparation_n 2._o but_o now_o for_o the_o second_o case_n which_o indeed_o be_v the_o main_a suppose_v when_o we_o come_v to_o duty_n and_o begin_v to_o examine_v our_o heart_n and_o begin_v to_o bethink_v ourselves_o whether_o we_o be_v prepare_v yea_o or_o no_o to_o holy_a duty_n and_o we_o do_v not_o find_v our_o heart_n prepare_v according_a to_o that_o that_o we_o do_v desire_n whether_o then_o we_o may_v let_v the_o duty_n go_v for_o that_o time_n and_o forbear_v the_o performance_n of_o it_o as_o suppose_v prayer_n or_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n or_o come_v to_o the_o word_n or_o any_o other_o holy_a duty_n and_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o doubt_n be_v because_o when_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v conscientious_a they_o think_v with_o themselves_o that_o they_o must_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n now_o if_o they_o can_v find_v their_o heart_n in_o a_o fit_a disposition_n to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n they_o be_v ready_a to_o think_v thus_o be_v it_o not_o better_a to_o neglect_v this_o duty_n and_o lay_v it_o aside_o for_o the_o present_a will_v god_n accept_v of_o a_o duty_n when_o i_o perform_v it_o and_o be_o not_o set_v for_o it_o therefore_o for_o the_o answer_n to_o this_o because_o it_o be_v a_o temptation_n that_o sometime_o carnal_a heart_n have_v and_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o take_v this_o temptation_n and_o willing_a to_o neglect_v the_o duty_n upon_o such_o a_o thought_n as_o this_o that_o they_o be_v not_o prepare_v and_o the_o truth_n be_v they_o be_v more_o glad_a to_o let_v the_o duty_n fall_v than_o they_o be_v sorry_a for_o want_v of_o the_o preparation_n of_o their_o heart_n for_o the_o duty_n i_o beseech_v you_o consider_v of_o this_o whether_o you_o have_v not_o find_v it_o so_o that_o sometime_o when_o you_o have_v not_o be_v fit_a to_o perform_v a_o holy_a duty_n there_o have_v not_o be_v a_o more_o secret_a willingness_n of_o the_o heart_n to_o let_v the_o duty_n go_v than_o a_o sorrow_n of_o the_o heart_n because_o you_o be_v not_o fit_a for_o the_o duty_n this_o be_v a_o very_a evil_a sign_n that_o the_o heart_n be_v very_o much_o distemper_v those_o that_o be_v godly_a indeed_o when_o they_o find_v not_o their_o heart_n prepare_v for_o the_o duty_n it_o be_v the_o trouble_n of_o their_o soul_n it_o be_v that_o which_o go_v near_o their_o heart_n when_o they_o think_v with_o themselves_o that_o they_o be_v now_o like_a to_o lose_v a_o duty_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n they_o be_v now_o like_a to_o lose_v their_o communion_n with_o god_n in_o a_o holy_a duty_n they_o even_o look_v upon_o themselves_o in_o a_o evil_a case_n in_o regard_n of_o this_o and_o it_o make_v they_o watchful_a for_o time_n to_o come_v to_o take_v heed_n of_o those_o thing_n that_o have_v put_v they_o in_o such_o a_o unpreparation_n as_o they_o find_v their_o heart_n to_o be_v in_o at_o this_o time_n now_o if_o it_o be_v so_o with_o thou_o it_o be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o thy_o heart_n may_v be_v upright_o with_o god_n
soul_n of_o man_n than_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o the_o great_a reason_n of_o the_o pride_n of_o all_o man_n heart_n be_v because_o they_o never_o know_v god_n if_o thou_o do_v but_o see_v god_n thy_o heart_n must_v needs_o be_v abase_v and_o when_o do_v the_o soul_n see_v god_n if_o not_o when_o it_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o in_o job_n 42._o i_o have_v hear_v of_o thou_o by_o the_o hear_n spirit_n now_o this_o humility_n of_o spirit_n appear_v in_o these_o thing_n 1._o first_o admire_v god_n goodness_n that_o we_o do_v live_v at_o this_o time_n and_o that_o we_o have_v liberty_n to_o come_v before_o he_o we_o may_v have_v be_v past_o pray_v and_o worship_v of_o god_n think_v thus_o what_o a_o mercy_n be_v it_o that_o we_o be_v not_o banish_v out_o of_o god_n presence_n that_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o spurn_v we_o out_o of_o his_o sight_n as_o filth_n and_o cast_v we_o out_o as_o a_o everlasting_a abhor_v while_o other_o have_v be_v pray_v we_o may_v have_v be_v yell_v under_o the_o wrath_n of_o the_o eternal_a god_n come_v with_o this_o apprehension_n of_o thyself_o and_o adore_v god_n goodness_n that_o thou_o be_v alive_a to_o pray_v and_o alive_a to_o hear_v god_n word_n and_o that_o it_o be_v not_o only_o a_o duty_n but_o a_o rich_a privilege_n and_o mercy_n that_o god_n will_v admit_v of_o thou_o to_o come_v into_o his_o presence_n again_o it_o be_v other_o in_o outward_a respect_n it_o be_v nothing_o to_o thou_o when_o thou_o be_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n thou_o be_v as_o a_o base_a vile_a worm_n though_o thou_o be_v a_o prince_n or_o emperor_n 4._o thy_o heart_n must_v be_v take_v off_o from_o what_o thou_o do_v if_o thou_o have_v any_o ability_n of_o grace_n yet_o thy_o heart_n must_v be_v take_v off_o there_o there_o may_v be_v pride_n not_o only_o from_o one_o part_n but_o it_o may_v be_v god_n have_v give_v i_o enlargement_n in_o prayer_n the_o devil_n will_v come_v in_o and_o seek_v to_o puff_n up_o thy_o heart_n even_o because_o of_o this_o but_o thy_o heart_n must_v be_v take_v off_o there_o and_o thou_o must_v deny_v thyself_o in_o all_o when_o thou_o have_v do_v the_o best_a service_n of_o all_o yet_o thou_o must_v conclude_v thou_o be_v a_o unprofitable_a servant_n when_o thou_o have_v pray_v the_o best_a yet_o rise_v with_o shame_n and_o take_v heed_n of_o have_v thy_o heart_n puff_v up_o even_o through_o the_o assistance_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n 5._o last_o thou_o must_v come_v with_o a_o humble_a resignation_n of_o thyself_o to_o god_n to_o be_v content_a to_o wait_v upon_o god_n as_o long_o as_o he_o please_v to_o wait_v upon_o god_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o time_n and_o of_o the_o measure_n and_o of_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o communication_n of_o himself_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o mean_n by_o which_o he_o will_v please_v to_o communicate_v himself_o wait_v upon_o he_o let_v i_o have_v mercy_n though_o at_o the_o last_o hour_n this_o now_o be_v a_o humble_a heart_n in_o prayer_n and_o when_o we_o come_v with_o such_o a_o poverty_n of_o spirit_n as_o this_o be_v we_o may_v expect_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v accept_v of_o we_o give_v this_o poor_a man_n somewhat_o will_v god_n say_v this_o poor_a man_n cry_v and_o the_o lord_n hear_v he_o in_o the_o seven_o place_n we_o must_v bring_v that_o which_o be_v god_n own_o in_o sanctify_a god_n name_v i_o speak_v to_o this_o before_o in_o the_o point_n of_o preparation_n viz._n that_o in_o god_n worship_n we_o must_v give_v he_o his_o own_o i_o will_v only_o mention_v it_o here_o in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o two_o regard_n 1._o first_o to_o give_v god_n his_o own_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o it_o 2._o second_o to_o give_v god_n his_o own_o that_o be_v what_o come_v from_o the_o work_n of_o his_o own_o spirit_n or_o else_o we_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n i_o will_v give_v you_o one_o text_n further_o about_o the_o matter_n of_o it_o in_o exod._n 39_o if_o you_o read_v the_o chapter_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o there_o be_v ten_o time_n say_v that_o they_o do_v as_o god_n have_v command_v moses_n and_o then_o in_o the_o thing_n that_o we_o offer_v to_o god_n in_o his_o worship_n be_v god_n own_o be_v what_o we_o have_v warrant_n for_o out_o of_o god_n word_n but_o it_o must_v have_v the_o stamp_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n there_o be_v two_o question_n that_o he_o will_v ask_v first_o who_o require_v this_o at_o your_o hand_n but_o then_o if_o you_o can_v answer_v thus_o thou_o o_o lord_n do_v require_v it_o it_o be_v well_o but_o then_o god_n have_v another_o question_n who_o image_n and_o superscription_n be_v this_o if_o thou_o can_v not_o give_v a_o answer_n to_o that_o the_o lord_n expect_v that_o all_o his_o child_n that_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o shall_v worship_v he_o as_o the_o almighty_a god_n and_o so_o have_v their_o heart_n work_v towards_o he_o there_o will_v be_v mighty_a work_n of_o spirit_n towards_o god_n if_o we_o see_v he_o by_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n as_o well_o as_o reason_n 7._o look_v upon_o god_n as_o a_o omniscient_a god_n as_o a_o god_n infinite_o understand_v all_o thing_n now_o what_o do_v this_o call_n for_o first_o if_o god_n be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a understanding_n then_o let_v not_o i_o bring_v a_o blind_a they_o that_o come_v nigh_o i_o now_o follow_v the_o reason_n why_o god_n stand_v so_o much_o upon_o it_o that_o he_o will_v have_v his_o name_n sanctify_v in_o this_o ordinance_n of_o hear_v his_o word_n 1._o first_o it_o be_v because_o there_o be_v so_o much_o of_o god_n in_o his_o word_n and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v god_n name_n if_o it_o be_v possible_a there_o can_v be_v sin_n in_o heaven_n that_o sin_n will_v be_v great_a than_o sin_n commit_v here_o therefore_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o angel_n when_o they_o be_v in_o god_n presence_n in_o a_o more_o special_a manner_n be_v the_o great_a the_o name_n of_o god_n be_v in_o any_o thing_n the_o great_a will_v be_v the_o evil_a if_o we_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o it_o now_o there_o be_v very_o much_o of_o god_n ordinance_n to_o convey_v the_o special_a mercy_n that_o he_o intend_v for_o the_o good_a of_o his_o people_n that_o we_o speak_v to_o before_o in_o the_o general_n in_o show_v how_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v as_o a_o channel_n for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o special_a good_a to_o the_o saint_n but_o none_o more_o than_o the_o word_n that_o be_v the_o ordinance_n to_o convey_v the_o first_o grace_n to_o those_o that_o belong_v to_o god_n election_n the_o sacrament_n be_v for_o strengthen_v and_o therefore_o there_o be_v rather_o more_o in_o the_o word_n than_o in_o the_o sacrament_n and_o yet_o every_o one_o think_v in_o conscience_n that_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o come_v careful_o to_o the_o sacrament_n and_o to_o look_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n there_o it_o be_v a_o easy_a matter_n to_o convince_v man_n and_o woman_n that_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n when_o they_o come_v to_o receive_v the_o holy_a communion_n than_o for_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n they_o think_v not_o so_o much_o of_o that_o but_o certain_o the_o word_n be_v appoint_v to_o be_v a_o ordinance_n of_o convey_v more_o blessing_n than_o the_o sacrament_n because_o it_o be_v appoint_v to_o convey_v the_o first_o grace_n and_o to_o convey_v strength_n of_o grace_n as_o well_o as_o the_o sacrament_n now_o be_v appoint_v to_o convey_v such_o great_a thing_n to_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o elect_a both_o the_o first_o grace_n and_o strengthen_n of_o grace_n and_o comfort_n and_o assistance_n thereof_o the_o lord_n expect_v to_o have_v his_o name_n santifiy_v in_o it_o 3._o three_o the_o name_n of_o god_n must_v be_v sanctiff_v in_o the_o word_n because_o the_o word_n be_v very_o quick_a and_o lively_a it_o work_v man_n or_o woman_n to_o life_n or_o death_n to_o salvation_n or_o damnation_n in_o heb._n 4._o 12._o the_o word_n of_o god_n quick_a and_o powerful_a and_o sharp_a than_o any_o two_o edge_a sword_n pierce_v even_o to_o the_o he_o will_v not_o stand_v dally_v and_o trifle_v with_o they_o but_o he_o be_v very_o quick_a with_o they_o either_o to_o bring_v there_o soul_n to_o life_n or_o to_o cast_v they_o away_o the_o time_n of_o man_n ignorance_n god_n wink_v at_o but_o now_o he_o call_v all_o man_n to_o repent_v let_v they_o look_v to_o it_o now_o god_n do_v forbear_v in_o the_o time_n of_o ignorance_n but_o he_o will_v not_o forbear_v so_o when_o the_o word_n come_v now_o be_v the_o axe_n lay_v to_o the_o root_n of_o the_o tree_n and_o when_o be_v that_o when_o john_n baptist_n come_v to_o preach_v repentance_n because_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n be_v at_o hand_n though_o the_o tree_n be_v barren_a before_o and_o do_v not_o bring_v forth_o good_a sruit_n yet_o it_o may_v stand_v still_o and_o not_o be_v cut_v down_o but_o when_o the_o powerful_a ministration_n of_o the_o world_n come_v than_o the_o axe_n be_v lay_v to_o the_o root_n of_o the_o tree_n either_o now_o come_v in_o and_o be_v save_v or_o resist_v the_o word_n and_o perish_v and_o therefore_o that_o be_v very_o observable_a when_o christ_n send_v out_o his_o disciple_n to_o preach_v in_o mark_n 16._o 15_o 16._o say_v he_o go_v you_o into_o all_o the_o world_n and_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o every_o creature_n and_o he_o that_o believe_v and_o be_v baptise_a shall_v be_v save_v but_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o shall_v be_v because_o god_n be_v very_o quick_a in_o his_o word_n one_o way_n or_o other_o we_o shall_v now_o proceed_v to_o the_o application_n of_o this_o point_n and_o first_o by_o way_n of_o reprehension_n to_o all_o those_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o herein_o we_o shall_v show_v their_o fearful_a condition_n and_o how_o god_n will_v sanctify_v his_o name_n sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o here_v it_o some_o there_o be_v that_o be_v so_o far_o from_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o it_o as_o they_o altogether_o neglect_v it_o and_o make_v it_o a_o matter_n of_o nothing_o whether_o they_o come_v to_o hear_v it_o
abominable_a thought_n rise_v from_o the_o stream_n and_o corruption_n of_o their_o heart_n such_o thought_n as_o their_o heart_n do_v close_o withal_o in_o prayer_n and_o they_o can_v roll_v those_o thought_n about_o in_o their_o mind_n as_o a_o child_n will_v roll_v a_o piece_n of_o sugar_n in_o its_o mouth_n and_o this_o be_v the_o wickedness_n of_o many_o man_n and_o woman_n heart_n take_v but_o this_o one_o note_n with_o you_o that_o all_o those_o dreadful_a vile_a unclean_a covetous_a thought_n of_o thou_o in_o prayer_n they_o have_v be_v to_o god_n as_o if_o you_o have_v speak_v they_o in_o word_n thought_n to_o god_n be_v all_o one_o with_o he_o as_o word_n be_v to_o man_n for_o god_n be_v a_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n do_v converse_v with_o god_n in_o thought_n as_o well_o as_o man_n do_v converse_v with_o man_n in_o word_n and_o what_o a_o woeful_a guiltiness_n will_v have_v be_v upon_o you_o have_v you_o speak_v such_o vile_a and_o wicked_a thing_n to_o man_n as_o sometime_o have_v be_v in_o your_o mind_n even_o when_o you_o have_v be_v pray_v to_o god_n how_o will_v the_o company_n have_v even_o spit_v in_o your_o face_n and_o kick_v you_o from_o they_o none_o that_o have_v any_o face_n of_o godliness_n will_v have_v endure_v you_o in_o their_o company_n and_o yet_o here_o be_v the_o evil_a of_o it_o your_o heart_n be_v not_o trouble_v but_o you_o rise_v off_o your_o knee_n and_o away_o you_o go_v thou_o have_v a_o cauterize_a conscience_n a_o sear_a conscience_n that_o can_v entertain_v such_o vile_a thought_n at_o any_o time_n without_o have_v thy_o spirit_n afflict_v and_o go_v away_o with_o shame_n and_o confusion_n as_o if_o the_o great_a evil_n have_v befall_v thou_o therefore_o take_v heed_n of_o this_o sermon_n fourteen_o upon_o that_o argument_n about_o the_o wander_a of_o our_o thought_n in_o prayer_n and_o by_o that_o we_o come_v to_o take_v god_n name_n in_o vain_a instead_o of_o sanctify_v of_o his_o name_n god_n expect_v that_o we_o shall_v have_v our_o thought_n and_o will_n and_o affection_n our_o whole_a soul_n act_v upon_o he_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o prayer_n or_o else_o we_o do_v not_o pray_v to_o god_n as_o unto_o a_o god_n vain_a thought_n in_o prayer_n do_v pick_v up_o the_o sacrifice_n like_o the_o brid_n that_o abraham_n drive_v away_o from_o the_o sacrifice_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o pick_v it_o wicked_a lust_n in_o man_n heart_n be_v like_o swine_n to_o take_v the_o meat_n and_o all_o to_o hale_v it_o in_o the_o dirt_n so_o their_o prayer_n be_v filthy_a and_o dirty_a with_o their_o lust_n but_o those_o that_o be_v otherwise_o godly_a yet_o by_o their_o vain_a thought_n the_o beauty_n and_o excellency_n of_o their_o prayer_n be_v take_v away_o as_o wine_n and_o beer_n that_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o they_o go_v so_o the_o life_n and_o spirit_n of_o our_o duty_n be_v go_v by_o our_o vain_a thought_n and_o therefore_o vain_a thought_n do_v dead_a the_o heart_n very_o much_o so_o say_v david_n in_o the_o 119._o psal_n turn_v away_o my_o eye_n from_o behold_v vanity_n and_o quicken_v i_o in_o thy_o law_n while_o our_o eye_n look_v upon_o vanity_n there_o will_v be_v no_o quickness_n in_o our_o heart_n in_o any_o service_n that_o we_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n now_o many_o of_o god_n people_n have_v experience_n of_o the_o evil_a of_o this_o and_o they_o groan_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o this_o &_o as_o i_o say_v the_o last_o time_n if_o so_o be_v that_o the_o lord_n shall_v speak_v from_o heaven_n to_o they_o and_o ask_v they_o what_o he_o shall_v have_v they_o have_v already_o the_o asurance_n of_o his_o love_n in_o christ_n they_o will_v ask_v the_o deliverance_n from_o a_o vain_a spirit_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o 〈◊〉_d duty_n bring_v no_o vain_a oblation_n say_v god_n in_o isa_n 1._o 13._o oh_o what_o vain_a oblation_n do_v we_o bring_v by_o the_o vanity_n of_o our_o thought_n in_o prayer_n it_o be_v true_a the_o best_a of_o we_o all_o will_v have_v vain_a thought_n sometime_o but_o yet_o as_o one_o compare_v the_o vain_a thought_n of_o man_n in_o paryer_n like_v to_o a_o spaniel_n that_o go_v out_o with_o a_o man_n he_o walk_v as_o now_o they_o have_v the_o reason_n why_o there_o be_v so_o much_o vanity_n of_o thought_n or_o at_o least_o so_o much_o take_v notice_n of_o it_o be_v first_o because_o there_o be_v but_o a_o little_a grace_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o corruption_n in_o young_a convert_n like_o a_o spark_n of_o fire_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o ash_n now_o if_o there_o lie_v a_o heap_n of_o ash_n and_o nothing_o else_o you_o do_v not_o stir_v they_o but_o if_o there_o be_v ash_n and_o some_o fire_n than_o you_o will_v stir_v they_o and_o be_v blow_v those_o friend_n together_o there_o be_v no_o disturbance_n and_o take_v notice_n of_o any_o thing_n then_o but_o now_o when_o the_o soul_n be_v cast_v out_o those_o sinful_a distemper_n and_o will_v have_v no_o more_o of_o they_o they_o for_o the_o present_n will_v be_v more_o importunate_a active_a and_o stir_v than_o they_o be_v before_o and_o beside_o the_o lord_n do_v this_o to_o humble_v thy_o heart_n the_o more_o that_o thereby_o thou_o may_v come_v to_o see_v the_o great_a
will_v pray_v than_o it_o seem_v that_o the_o main_a matter_n of_o your_o prayer_n be_v only_o for_o yourselves_o but_o how_o have_v the_o matter_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o great_a god_n and_o the_o good_a of_o the_o church_n take_v your_o heart_n all_o this_o while_n how_o have_v your_o heart_n be_v affect_v with_o this_o that_o the_o name_n of_o god_n have_v be_v so_o little_o sanctify_v in_o the_o world_n and_o that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n have_v not_o come_v and_o that_o the_o will_n of_o god_n have_v not_o be_v do_v have_v these_o thing_n take_v up_o your_o heart_n in_o prayer_n the_o matter_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o good_a of_o church_n though_o yourselves_o have_v not_o any_o particular_a interest_n in_o they_o if_o these_o thing_n do_v but_o take_v up_o your_o heart_n in_o prayer_n then_o when_o you_o be_v at_o sea_n you_o will_v remember_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o church_n as_o much_o as_o yourselves_o the_o church_n be_v as_o it_o be_v therefore_o the_o strength_n of_o your_o spirit_n shall_v be_v thus_o power_v forth_o to_o god_n oh_o that_o i_o can_v get_v my_o heart_n to_o god_n and_o the_o assurance_n of_o the_o love_n of_o spiritual_a thing_n may_v be_v pray_v for_o absolute_o but_o outward_a thing_n must_v be_v pray_v for_o conditional_o i_o may_v pray_v and_o never_o put_v any_o condition_n in_o at_o all_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v pardon_v my_o sin_n and_o help_v i_o against_o my_o corruption_n etc._n etc._n but_o when_o i_o pray_v for_o the_o health_n of_o my_o body_n i_o ought_v to_o pray_v if_o this_o be_v according_a to_o thy_o will_n then_o restore_v i_o to_o the_o health_n of_o my_o body_n or_o the_o health_n of_o my_o husband_n or_o the_o health_n of_o my_o wife_n but_o thou_o may_v pray_v lord_n convert_v the_o soul_n of_o my_o husband_n or_o the_o soul_n of_o my_o wife_n without_o any_o condition_n at_o all_o when_o your_o estate_n at_o sea_n be_v in_o danger_n when_o you_o pray_v believe_v there_o be_v many_o in_o this_o congregation_n that_o have_v already_o good_a assurance_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n if_o they_o have_v not_o that_o that_o will_v be_v the_o main_a be_v deliver_v from_o a_o wander_a spirit_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o especial_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o prayer_n that_o i_o may_v thereby_o come_v to_o enjoy_v more_o holy_a communion_n with_o
