kingdom_n of_o heaven_n it_o be_v also_o write_v that_o when_o paul_n preach_v at_o 〈◊〉_d 17.18_o act_n 17.18_o many_o honest_a man_n and_o woman_n do_v believe_v that_o iâ—_n such_o no_o be_v more_o than_o their_o old_a shoe_n what_o hope_n be_v there_o then_o i_o pray_v you_o that_o such_o man_n shall_v be_v save_v do_v not_o the_o holy_a ghost_n say_v 2.5_o hoâ—_n 2.5_o how_o shall_v no_o delight_n in_o it_o phil._n i_o marvel_v much_o that_o such_o man_n shall_v live_v so_o honest_o to_o the_o worldward_n theol._n no_o marvel_n at_o all_o for_o many_o bad_a man_n who_o heart_n wicked_a may_v have_v that_o spirit_n which_o do_v repress_v but_o not_o that_o which_o do_v renew_v phil._n it_o seem_v then_o by_o your_o speech_n that_o some_o which_o be_v not_o regenerate_v do_v in_o some_o thing_n excel_v the_o child_n of_o god_n theol._n most_o certain_a it_o be_v that_o some_o of_o they_o in_o outward_a gift_n and_o the_o outward_a carriage_n of_o themselves_o do_v go_v beyond_o some_o of_o the_o elect_a phil._n show_v i_o i_o pray_v you_o in_o what_o gift_n theol._n in_o learning_n discretion_n justice_n temperance_n prudence_n patience_n liberality_n assability_n kindness_n courtesy_n good_a nature_n etc._n etc._n phil._n i_o think_v it_o shall_v not_o be_v possible_a theol._n yes_o true_o for_o some_o of_o god_n dear_a child_n in_o who_o no_o doubt_n the_o inward_a work_n be_v true_o and_o sound_o wrought_v yet_o be_v so_o trouble_v and_o encumber_v with_o a_o crabbed_a &_o crooked_a nature_n and_o so_o clog_v with_o some_o master_n sin_n as_o some_o with_o anger_n some_o with_o pride_n some_o with_o covetousness_n some_o with_o lust_n some_o one_o way_n and_o some_o another_o all_o which_o break_v out_o in_o they_o do_v so_o blemish_v they_o and_o their_o profession_n that_o they_o can_v so_o shine_v forth_o unto_o man_n as_o otherwise_o no_o doubt_n they_o will_v and_o this_o be_v their_o wound_n their_o grief_n and_o their_o heart-smart_n and_o that_o which_o co_v they_o many_o a_o tear_n and_o many_o a_o prayer_n and_o yet_o can_v they_o not_o get_v the_o fu_n l_o victory_n over_o they_o but_o still_o they_o be_v less_o in_o they_o as_o a_o prick_n in_o the_o flesh_n to_o humble_v they_o ph._n yet_o love_n shall_v cover_v a_o multitude_n of_o such_o infirmity_n in_o god_n child_n theol._n it_o shall_v do_v so_o indeed_o but_o there_o be_v great_a want_n of_o love_n even_o in_o the_o best_a and_o the_o worst_a sort_n espy_v these_o infirmity_n in_o the_o godly_a run_v upon_o they_o with_o open_a mouth_n and_o take_v upon_o they_o to_o condemn_v they_o utter_o and_o to_o judge_v their_o heart_n say_v they_o be_v hypocrite_n dissembler_n and_o there_o be_v none_o worse_o than_o they_o phil._n but_o do_v you_o not_o think_v that_o there_o be_v some_o counterfeit_v even_o among_o the_o great_a professor_n theol._n yes_o no_o doubt_n there_o be_v &_o always_o have_v be_v some_o very_a hypocrite_n in_o the_o church_n but_o we_o most_o take_v heed_n of_o judge_v &_o condemn_v all_o for_o some_o for_o it_o be_v very_o much_o to_o condemn_v christ_n and_o his_o eleven_o disciple_n because_o of_o one_o judas_n or_o the_o whole_a primitive_a church_n for_o one_o ananias_n and_o sapphira_n phil._n but_o i_o hope_v you_o be_v of_o this_o mind_n that_o some_o regenerate_a man_n even_o in_o outward_a gift_n and_o their_o outward_a carriage_n be_v comparable_a with_o many_o other_o theol._n questionless_a very_o many_o for_o they_o be_v guide_v by_o god_n spirit_n and_o uphold_v by_o his_o grace_n do_v walk_v very_o upright_o and_o unblamable_o towards_o man_n phil._n yet_o there_o rest_v one_o scruple_n for_o it_o seem_v very_o strange_a unto_o i_o that_o man_n of_o so_o discreet_a carriage_n as_o you_o speak_v of_o and_o of_o so_o many_o good_a part_n shall_v not_o be_v save_v it_o be_v great_a pity_n such_o man_n shall_v be_v damn_v theol._n it_o seem_v so_o unto_o we_o indeed_o but_o god_n be_v only_o wise_a and_o you_o must_v note_v that_o as_o there_o be_v some_o infirmity_n in_o god_n child_n which_o he_o correct_v with_o temporal_a chastisement_n and_o yet_o reward_v their_o faith_n love_n and_o inward_a service_n and_o obedience_n with_o eternal_a life_n so_o there_o be_v some_o good_a thing_n in_o the_o wicked_a and_o they_o that_o be_v without_o christ_n which_o god_n reward_v with_o temporal_a blessing_n and_o yet_o punish_v they_o eternal_o for_o their_o unbelief_n and_o hardness_n of_o heart_n phil._n now_o you_o have_v reasonable_o well_o satisfy_v i_o touch_v the_o doctrine_n of_o regeneration_n and_o the_o manifold_a error_n
and_o deceit_n that_o be_v in_o it_o and_o of_o it_o i_o pray_v you_o let_v we_o now_o proceed_v and_o first_o of_o all_o tell_v i_o by_o what_o mean_v the_o new_a birth_n be_v wrought_v theol_n by_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n as_o the_o outward_a mean_n 4.3_o 1_o pet._n 1_o 2.3_o john_n 1â—_n 3_o act_n 10.44_o ephes_n 4.3_o and_o the_o secret_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n as_o the_o inward_a mean_n phil._n many_o hear_v the_o word_n preach_v and_o be_v nothing_o the_o better_a but_o rather_o the_o worse_a what_o i_o pray_v you_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o that_o theol._n man_n own_o incredulity_n and_o hardness_n of_o heart_n because_o god_n in_o his_o wrath_n leave_v they_o to_o themselves_o and_o deprive_v they_o of_o his_o spirit_n without_o the_o which_o all_o preach_a be_v in_o vain_a for_o except_v the_o spirit_n do_v follow_v the_o word_n into_o our_o heart_n 16.14_o act._n 16.14_o we_o can_v find_v no_o joy_n taste_n nor_o comfort_n therein_o phil._n can_v a_o man_n attain_v unto_o regeneration_n and_o the_o new_a birth_n without_o the_o word_n and_o the_o spirit_n theol._n no_o very_o for_o they_o be_v the_o instrument_n and_o mean_n whereby_o god_n do_v work_v it_o antil_n why_o may_v not_o a_o man_n have_v as_o good_a a_o faith_n to_o god-ward_o that_o hear_v no_o sermon_n as_o he_o that_o hear_v all_o the_o sermon_n in_o the_o world_n theol._n why_o may_v not_o he_o which_o eat_v no_o meat_n be_v as_o fat_a and_o as_o well_o like_v as_o he_o that_o eat_v all_o the_o meat_n in_o the_o world_n for_o be_v not_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n the_o food_n of_o our_o soul_n antil_n i_o like_v not_o so_o much_o hear_v of_o sermon_n and_o read_v of_o the_o scripture_n except_o man_n can_v keep_v they_o better_o theol._n faithful_n and_o honest_a hearer_n do_v therefore_o hear_v that_o they_o may_v be_v more_o able_a to_o observe_v and_o do_v for_o a_o man_n can_v do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n before_o he_o know_v it_o and_o he_o can_v know_v it_o without_o hear_v and_o read_v antil_n i_o marvel_v what_o good_a man_n do_v get_v by_o gad_v to_o sermon_n and_o pore_v so_o much_o in_o the_o scripture_n or_o what_o be_v they_o better_o than_o other_o there_o be_v none_o more_o full_a of_o envy_n and_o malice_n than_o they_o they_o will_v do_v their_o neighbour_n a_o shrewd_a turn_n as_o soon_o as_o any_o body_n and_o therefore_o in_o my_o opinion_n they_o be_v but_o a_o company_n of_o hypocrite_n and_o precise_a fool_n theol._n you_o judge_v uncharitable_o full_o little_a do_v you_o know_v what_o they_o feel_v or_o what_o good_a god_n people_n get_v by_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n for_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o elect_a be_v very_o secret_a and_o altogether_o hide_v from_o the_o world_n 8_o john_n â—_o 8_o as_o it_o be_v write_v the_o wind_n blow_v where_o it_o list_v and_o thou_o hear_v the_o sound_n thereof_o but_o can_v not_o tell_v whither_o it_o go_v or_o whence_o it_o come_v so_o be_v every_o man_n that_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o spirit_n and_o again_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n know_v no_o man_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n amil._n tush_o tush_o what_o need_v all_o this_o adoâ—_n if_o a_o man_n say_v his_o lord_n prayer_n his_o ten_o commandment_n and_o his_o belief_n &_o keep_v they_o and_o say_v no_o body_n harm_n not_o do_v no_o body_n harm_n and_o do_v as_o he_o will_v be_v do_v to_o have_v a_o good_a faith_n to_o god-ward_o and_o be_v a_o man_n of_o god_n belief_n no_o doubt_n he_o shall_v be_v save_v without_o all_o this_o run_v to_o sermon_n and_o prattle_v of_o the_o scripture_n theol._n now_o you_o power_n it_o out_o indeed_o you_o think_v you_o have_v speak_v wise_a y._n but_o alas_o you_o have_v bewray_v your_o great_a ignorance_n for_o you_o imagine_v a_o man_n may_v be_v save_v without_o the_o word_n which_o be_v a_o gross_a error_n antil_n it_o be_v no_o matter_n say_v you_o what_o you_o will_v and_o all_o the_o preacher_n in_o the_o world_n beside_o as_o long_o as_o i_o serve_v god_n and_o say_v my_o prayer_n due_o and_o true_o morning_n and_o evening_n and_o have_v a_o good_a faith_n in_o god_n and_o put_v my_o whole_a trust_n in_o he_o and_o do_v my_o true_a intent_n and_o have_v a_o good_a mind_n to_o god-ward_o and_o a_o good_a meaning_n although_o i_o be_o not_o learned_a yet_o i_o hope_v it_o will_v serve_v the_o turn_n for_o my_o soul_n health_n for_o that_o god_n which_o make_v i_o must_v save_v i_o it_o be_v not_o you_o that_o can_v save_v i_o for_o all_o your_o learning_n and_o all_o your_o scripture_n theol._n you_o
