and_o pride_n of_o their_o clergy_n they_o can_v endure_v this_o and_o when_o they_o do_v declare_v against_o the_o sottishness_n and_o blindness_n and_o profaneness_n of_o the_o people_n which_o they_o nourish_v up_o and_o admit_v to_o partake_v of_o seal_v ordinance_n this_o prove_v a_o torment_n to_o they_o as_o do_v also_o the_o hold_v forth_o of_o other_o truth_n of_o christ_n which_o brethren_n in_o which_o they_o be_v to_o act_v according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o grace_n receive_v and_o now_o since_o the_o scripture_n speak_v but_o only_o of_o bishop_n and_o deacon_n that_o be_v ordain_v by_o the_o lay_n on_o of_o hand_n and_o declare_v it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o brethren_n in_o the_o church_n to_o prophesy_v as_o 1_o cor._n 14._o 31._o you_o query_n and_o since_o it_o be_v make_v so_o evident_a that_o prophet_n apostle_n evangelist_n pastor_n and_o teacher_n have_v continue_v all_o the_o while_n the_o beast_n have_v continue_v i_o hope_v hereby_o they_o that_o through_o darkness_n have_v be_v of_o the_o contrary_a mind_n will_v be_v hereby_o convince_v of_o their_o error_n herein_o and_o now_o be_v you_o exhort_v to_o frequent_v the_o assembly_n of_o saint_n and_o come_v to_o those_o meet_v place_n where_o such_o as_o be_v precious_a saint_n do_v hold_v forth_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n and_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o prophecy_n his_o saint_n which_o be_v give_v to_o profit_v withal_o consider_v that_o jesus_n christ_n say_v i_o will_v give_v unto_o my_o two_o witness_n and_o they_o shall_v prophesy_v it_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o jesus_n christ_n unto_o his_o people_n which_o he_o give_v not_o only_o for_o the_o good_a of_o the_o person_n in_o who_o it_o be_v but_o for_o the_o good_a of_o other_o also_o saint_n have_v a_o interest_n in_o one_o another_o gift_n and_o therefore_o paul_n speak_v of_o such_o as_o be_v prophet_n as_o himself_o and_o peter_n and_o apollo_n say_v he_o to_o the_o saint_n 1_o cor._n 3._o 21_o 22._o all_o be_v you_o whether_o paul_n or_o apollo_n or_o cephas_n etc._n etc._n thus_o the_o gift_n that_o be_v give_v to_o other_o be_v give_v to_o they_o for_o i_o and_o the_o gift_n that_o be_v give_v to_o i_o how_o weak_a soever_o be_v not_o altogether_o for_o myself_o but_o for_o other_o also_o for_o jesus_n christ_n have_v so_o dispose_v of_o it_o to_o give_v several_a gift_n to_o several_a saint_n to_o this_o end_n to_o maintain_v communion_n among_o saint_n o_o therefore_o you_o that_o be_v saint_n have_v communion_n one_o with_o another_o that_o you_o may_v receive_v benefit_n from_o one_o another_o as_o christ_n have_v appoint_v for_o he_o give_v some_o apostle_n and_o some_o prophet_n and_o some_o evangelist_n and_o some_o pastor_n and_o teacher_n what_o to_o do_v for_o the_o perfect_a of_o saint_n for_o the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n for_o the_o edify_n of_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n now_o do_v you_o desire_v to_o be_v edify_v do_v you_o desire_v to_o press_v forward_o towards_o perfection_n that_o you_o may_v not_o be_v as_o child_n carry_v about_o with_o every_o wind_n of_o doctrine_n then_o frequent_a the_o assembly_n of_o the_o saint_n that_o you_o may_v partake_v of_o their_o gift_n jesus_n christ_n have_v give_v they_o to_o effect_v these_o thing_n in_o you_o and_o all_o his_o people_n and_o for_o the_o keep_v a_o spirit_n of_o love_n among_o saint_n that_o they_o receive_v benefit_n one_o from_o another_o may_v not_o say_v one_o to_o another_o i_o have_v no_o need_n of_o you_o as_o those_o seem_v to_o do_v that_o forsake_v the_o assembly_n of_o saint_n but_o that_o all_o be_v join_v and_o knit_v together_o may_v increase_v with_o the_o increase_n of_o god_n and_o so_o much_o shall_v suffice_v to_o be_v speak_v to_o this_o deduction_n 6._o six_o the_o next_o instruction_n that_o i_o shall_v come_v to_o though_o it_o be_v not_o the_o next_o in_o order_n yet_o i_o shall_v place_v it_o here_o because_o of_o the_o affinity_n it_o have_v with_o this_o be_v this_o that_o since_o the_o witness_n the_o saint_n of_o jesus_n christ_n have_v have_v a_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n all_o the_o while_n the_o beast_n have_v continue_v whereby_o their_o enemy_n have_v be_v devour_v as_o by_o a_o spiritual_a fire_n then_o hereby_o they_o may_v be_v convince_v of_o their_o error_n that_o say_v they_o be_v in_o babylon_n and_o therefore_o do_v not_o join_v with_o any_o in_o pour_v out_o their_o foul_n to_o god_n in_o prayer_n nor_o yet_o do_v it_o themselves_o now_o let_v such_o consider_v that_o in_o the_o dark_a midnight_n of_o popery_n saint_n have_v have_v a_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n and_o indeed_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a to_o be_v a_o saint_n and_o not_o to_o have_v a_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n it_o be_v the_o very_a nature_n and_o constitution_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o a_o saint_n to_o ascend_v upward_o to_o god_n in_o prayer_n at_o all_o time_n and_o upon_o all_o occasion_n the_o truth_n be_v that_o though_o the_o saint_n may_v be_v without_o other_o ordinance_n as_o baptism_n and_o break_v of_o bread_n though_o i_o know_v no_o rule_n they_o have_v willing_o to_o neglect_v
21_o 22._o and_o again_o this_o be_v the_o confidence_n that_o we_o have_v in_o he_o that_o if_o we_o ask_v any_o thing_n according_a to_o his_o will_n he_o hear_v we_o and_o if_o we_o know_v that_o he_o hear_v we_o whatsoever_o we_o ask_v we_o know_v that_o we_o have_v the_o petition_n that_o we_o desire_v of_o he_o 1_o john_n 5._o 14_o 15._o and_o by_o these_o passage_n it_o appear_v that_o saint_n in_o the_o primitive_a time_n before_o the_o great_a fall_v away_o and_o the_o rise_n of_o the_o beast_n when_o they_o pray_v have_v assurance_n that_o they_o shall_v have_v the_o petition_n they_o desire_v but_o when_o i_o pray_v i_o have_v no_o such_o confidence_n in_o many_o thing_n and_o many_o time_n it_o be_v a_o long_a time_n before_o my_o petition_n be_v answer_v and_o in_o some_o petition_n i_o have_v a_o plain_a denial_n and_o therefore_o i_o question_v whether_o it_o be_v not_o sinful_a for_o i_o so_o to_o continue_v pray_v until_o i_o be_o full_o come_v out_o of_o babylon_n and_o then_o i_o conceive_v that_o i_o shall_v have_v such_o a_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n as_o the_o saint_n have_v in_o the_o primitive_a time_n and_o have_v confidence_n that_o whatsoever_o i_o ask_v of_o god_n i_o shall_v receive_v of_o he_o answ_n first_o that_o the_o saint_n while_o they_o have_v be_v under_o the_o bondage_n of_o babylon_n have_v have_v a_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n and_o have_v sin_n for_o these_o to_o continue_v pray_v though_o they_o be_v in_o babylon_n then_o doubtless_o it_o will_v be_v no_o sin_n for_o thou_o to_o pray_v though_o thou_o shall_v be_v in_o babylon_n but_o second_o whereas_o thou_o say_v that_o in_o some_o thing_n thou_o have_v no_o confidence_n that_o thou_o shall_v be_v hear_v and_o sometime_o it_o be_v long_o before_o some_o petition_n be_v grant_v and_o other_o petition_n be_v plain_o deny_v let_v i_o tell_v thou_o that_o if_o in_o those_o thing_n in_o which_o thou_o have_v no_o confidence_n thou_o do_v pray_v for_o they_o with_o the_o submission_n of_o thy_o will_n unto_o the_o will_n of_o the_o father_n it_o may_v be_v no_o sin_n for_o thou_o so_o to_o pray_v for_o the_o thing_n that_o thy_o soul_n desire_v though_o thou_o have_v no_o confidence_n of_o they_o if_o they_o be_v such_o thing_n as_o be_v not_o sinful_a in_o themselves_o as_o such_o as_o these_o be_v not_o viz._n to_o be_v deliver_v from_o bodily_a distemper_n to_o be_v keep_v from_o danger_n in_o travel_v whether_o by_o sea_n or_o land_n to_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o tyranny_n of_o unreasonable_a man_n that_o seek_v to_o do_v thou_o hurt_v or_o to_o have_v parent_n or_o child_n or_o wife_n or_o husband_n or_o brethren_n or_o sister_n or_o any_o other_o friend_n deliver_v from_o bodily_a distemper_n or_o danger_n in_o travel_v etc._n etc._n or_o to_o have_v they_o bring_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o truth_n from_o darkness_n to_o light_n and_o from_o the_o power_n of_o satan_n to_o god_n or_o to_o have_v they_o keep_v from_o error_n and_o seduce_a spirit_n i_o say_v these_o and_o such_o like_a thing_n which_o be_v not_o sinful_a in_o themselves_o if_o thy_o soul_n desire_v they_o it_o will_v be_v no_o sin_n for_o thou_o to_o pray_v for_o they_o though_o thou_o have_v no_o confidence_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v grant_v so_o thou_o pray_v for_o these_o with_o the_o submit_v of_o thy_o will_n to_o the_o will_n of_o the_o father_n and_o this_o be_v clear_a in_o that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n himself_o in_o who_o be_v no_o sin_n do_v pray_v so_o with_o submission_n to_o the_o father_n will_n for_o deliverance_n from_o that_o bitter_a cup_n which_o he_o be_v to_o drink_v of_o though_o he_o have_v no_o confidence_n that_o 〈◊〉_d petition_n shall_v be_v grant_v so_o that_o saint_n may_v pray_v for_o those_o thing_n which_o thâ—y_o do_v not_o infallible_o know_v to_o be_v according_a to_o the_o mind_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o it_o may_v be_v no_o sin_n so_o to_o pray_v if_o they_o do_v pray_v with_o submission_n to_o the_o father_n will_n and_o in_o so_o pray_v they_o may_v be_v acceptable_a to_o the_o father_n who_o many_o time_n do_v grant_v some_o of_o those_o petition_n as_o soon_o as_o they_o be_v put_v up_o and_o at_o other_o time_n after_o he_o have_v make_v his_o people_n to_o wait_v long_o and_o to_o pray_v importunate_o for_o they_o and_o if_o some_o of_o they_o be_v deny_v yet_o their_o person_n and_o prayer_n may_v be_v accept_v and_o may_v be_v and_o sometime_o be_v grant_v another_o way_n god_n give_v they_o in_o that_o which_o be_v better_o than_o the_o thing_n desire_v but_o three_o all_o saint_n may_v have_v and_o doubtless_o many_o saint_n have_v as_o much_o confidence_n now_o in_o prayer_n as_o the_o saint_n have_v in_o the_o primitive_a time_n for_o what_o be_v the_o confidence_n that_o saint_n than_o have_v say_v john_n this_o be_v the_o confidence_n that_o we_o have_v in_o he_o that_o if_o we_o ask_v any_o thing_n according_a to_o his_o will_n he_o hear_v we_o this_o be_v the_o primitive_a saint_n confidence_n and_o what_o saint_n have_v not_o this_o confidence_n now_o that_o if_o we_o ask_v any_o thing_n according_a to_o his_o will_n he_o hear_v we_o saint_n be_v now_o confident_a that_o the_o thing_n they_o pray_v for_o which_o god_n will_v and_o intend_v to_o give_v unto_o they_o shall_v be_v grant_v only_o they_o have_v not_o a_o infallible_a spirit_n so_o as_o to_o know_v in_o all_o thing_n what_o it_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n to_o bestow_v upon_o they_o but_o many_o thing_n they_o do_v know_v and_o other_o they_o have_v strong_a persuasion_n of_o when_o god_n in_o a_o more_o than_o ordinary_a manner_n move_v their_o spirit_n to_o pray_v for_o they_o thus_o saint_n have_v a_o holy_a boldness_n and_o confidence_n in_o approach_v to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n by_o the_o mediation_n of_o jesus_n christ_n come_v to_o god_n in_o the_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n be_v confident_a of_o have_v every_o good_a thing_n that_o a_o gracious_a and_o love_a father_n see_v good_a for_o they_o all_o their_o petition_n be_v hear_v they_o be_v confident_a that_o if_o they_o ask_v any_o thing_n according_a to_o his_o will_n he_o hear_v they_o and_o no_o saint_n in_o the_o primitive_a time_n have_v other_o confidence_n so_o that_o saint_n it_o be_v no_o sin_n for_o you_o to_o continue_v pray_v make_v know_v your_o request_n to_o god_n but_o it_o be_v your_o duty_n so_o to_o do_v but_o four_o though_o flesh_n do_v break_v out_o and_o in_o some_o thing_n saint_n do_v not_o pray_v aright_o yet_o they_o be_v not_o therefore_o whole_o to_o neglect_v pray_v know_v that_o god_n still_o delight_v in_o the_o breathe_n of_o his_o own_o spirit_n in_o they_o although_o they_o have_v many_o weakness_n and_o infirmity_n in_o they_o and_o five_o if_o they_o find_v their_o faith_n be_v not_o so_o high_a nor_o their_o confidence_n so_o strong_a as_o some_o primitive_a saint_n be_v than_o ought_v they_o to_o pray_v for_o the_o increase_n of_o faith_n if_o they_o be_v weak_a in_o faith_n let_v they_o have_v recourse_n to_o he_o who_o be_v the_o author_n and_o finisher_n of_o faith_n for_o the_o strengthen_n of_o it_o who_o will_v give_v liberal_o and_o will_v not_o upbraid_v his_o people_n though_o they_o be_v weak_a though_o a_o man_n that_o be_v altogether_o faithless_a have_v no_o promise_n sure_a to_o he_o yet_o the_o man_n weak_a in_o faith_n have_v as_o many_o promise_n make_v to_o he_o as_o he_o that_o be_v strong_a in_o faith_n so_o that_o though_o it_o be_v weak_a yet_o if_o it_o be_v a_o true_a faith_n in_o he_o that_o pray_v for_o the_o increase_n of_o faith_n he_o shall_v find_v access_n to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n and_o so_o much_o for_o the_o clear_n of_o this_o deduction_n 7._o seven_o the_o next_o deduction_n be_v to_o discover_v the_o excellency_n and_o preciousnes_n of_o saint_n from_o the_o 4_o &_o 5_o verse_n they_o be_v discover_v to_o be_v excellent_a in_o that_o they_o be_v say_v to_o be_v olive_n tree_n they_o be_v not_o as_o the_o dry_a tree_n who_o be_v nigh_o unto_o curse_v who_o end_n be_v to_o be_v burn_v he._n 6._o 8._o but_o bless_a and_o happy_a be_v the_o condition_n of_o saint_n for_o they_o have_v a_o unction_n from_o the_o holy_a one_o they_o stand_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o the_o whole_a earth_n they_o be_v precious_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o god_n and_o profitable_a to_o man_n for_o they_o empty_v the_o golden_a oil_n they_o have_v receive_v from_o the_o
to_o lose_v much_o of_o these_o outward_a thing_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n which_o at_o best_o be_v but_o vanity_n for_o it_o be_v far_o better_a to_o be_v without_o these_o and_o have_v a_o good_a conscience_n than_o to_o enjoy_v much_o of_o these_o either_o with_o a_o trouble_a or_o sear_a conscience_n and_o a_o harden_a heart_n it_o be_v better_a to_o be_v at_o enmity_n with_o the_o beast_n herein_o and_o lose_v much_o of_o the_o world_n then_o to_o enjoy_v abundance_n of_o the_o world_n and_o soon_o after_o to_o perish_v with_o the_o beast_n again_o this_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o with_o all_o that_o if_o you_o shall_v persist_v in_o endeavour_v to_o get_v such_o a_o impose_v power_n it_o be_v that_o by_o which_o the_o beast_n reign_v in_o any_o place_n where_o it_o be_v it_o be_v in_o vain_a for_o you_o to_o endeavour_v it_o in_o england_n for_o england_n be_v fall_v from_o rome_n and_o be_v no_o more_o a_o part_n of_o rome_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o seek_v to_o exercise_v a_o romish_a power_n any_o long_o in_o it_o and_o england_n be_v thus_o fall_v be_v become_v a_o precedent_n to_o the_o other_o kingdom_n so_o to_o do_v and_o shall_v not_o the_o lord_n psal_n 118._o 15_o 16_o 17._o the_o postscript_n it_o be_v so_o that_o since_o my_o finish_n of_o this_o discourse_n there_o be_v some_o further_a mutation_n in_o these_o kingdom_n which_o may_v seem_v to_o give_v to_o some_o some_o ground_n to_o question_v that_o which_o i_o have_v here_o assert_v viz._n that_o the_o witness_n be_v slay_v by_o the_o beast_n and_o that_o according_a to_o this_o prophecy_n after_o they_o have_v lie_v dead_a three_o year_n and_o a_o half_a they_o be_v rise_v and_o do_v stand_v upon_o their_o foot_n if_o this_o be_v so_o may_v some_o one_o say_v then_o how_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o probability_n that_o the_o enemy_n of_o the_o saint_n shall_v again_o get_v ground_n of_o they_o and_o bring_v they_o again_o into_o a_o low_a condition_n for_o inchiquin_n in_o ireland_n and_o poyer_n in_o wales_n and_o a_o great_a party_n in_o scotland_n do_v seem_v to_o act_v afresh_o for_o the_o beast_n and_o do_v express_o declare_v against_o the_o witness_n under_o the_o title_n of_o independent_o and_o sectary_n etc._n etc._n but_o if_o the_o witness_n be_v indeed_o slay_v and_o raise_v then_o undoubted_o they_o shall_v indeed_o go_v on_o conquer_a and_o overcome_v the_o beast_n and_o the_o beast_n shall_v no_o more_o recover_v power_n over_o they_o to_o put_v they_o into_o a_o distress_a condition_n for_o then_o the_o day_n of_o their_o prophesy_v in_o sackcloth_n in_o sad_a and_o sable_a garment_n be_v expire_v but_o how_o can_v it_o be_v say_v to_o be_v so_o since_o the_o beast_n seem_v in_o a_o probable_a way_n of_o recover_a power_n over_o they_o again_o now_o that_o this_o seem_a ground_n of_o fear_n may_v be_v remove_v i_o shall_v lay_v down_o these_o three_o consideration_n first_o that_o though_o the_o beast_n shall_v no_o more_o prevail_v over_o the_o witness_n to_o bring_v they_o down_o yet_o he_o may_v and_o must_v endeavour_v to_o oppose_v the_o witness_n and_o again_o to_o make_v war_n against_o they_o that_o they_o may_v bring_v he_o down_o for_o now_o that_o the_o time_n of_o his_o prevalencie_n over_o the_o saint_n be_v expire_v he_o must_v not_o long_o continue_v in_o his_o present_a station_n but_o as_o he_o shall_v not_o go_v high_o so_o he_o shall_v go_v low_o yea_o he_o shall_v come_v down_o wonderful_o and_o how_o shall_v that_o be_v but_o by_o his_o oppose_v the_o saint_n who_o shall_v be_v as_o a_o burden_n some_o stone_n and_o all_o that_o burden_n themselves_o with_o it_o shall_v be_v cut_v in_o piece_n and_o therefore_o the_o more_o we_o see_v that_o that_o the_o accomplice_n of_o the_o beast_n do_v endeavour_v to_o oppose_v the_o saint_n the_o near_o we_o may_v conclude_v that_o he_o and_o they_o be_v to_o their_o ruin_n and_o therefore_o their_o rise_n and_o stir_n shall_v be_v rather_o encouragement_n than_o discouragement_n unto_o the_o saint_n but_o second_o that_o the_o witness_n be_v indeed_o slay_v and_o rise_v and_o do_v stand_v upon_o their_o foot_n be_v altogether_o unquestionable_a because_o as_o appear_v by_o the_o foregoing_a discourse_n this_o pprophecy_n of_o the_o slay_v of_o the_o witness_n and_o of_o their_o rise_n etc._n etc._n be_v in_o every_o particular_a iota_fw-la and_o tittle_n of_o it_o most_o exact_o accomplish_v i_o will_v not_o here_o recapitulate_v any_o of_o the_o particular_n but_o refer_v the_o reader_n to_o the_o foregoing_a discourse_n but_o shall_v here_o only_o desire_v the_o reader_n to_o consider_v of_o this_o one_o in_o a_o more_o especial_a manner_n viz._n that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n express_o declare_v that_o the_o fall_n of_o a_o ten_o part_n of_o the_o city_n shall_v immediate_o follow_v the_o witness_n stand_v upon_o their_o foot_n and_o be_v in_o the_o same_o hour_n with_o it_o as_o a_o effect_n of_o it_o now_o that_o a_o ten_o part_n of_o the_o city_n particular_o the_o kingdom_n of_o england_n be_v fall_v
