the_o confession_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o prayer_n for_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o they_o for_o the_o acceptance_n of_o our_o person_n and_o prayer_n for_o our_o protection_n from_o danger_n for_o peace_n for_o grace_n to_o live_v well_o according_a to_o god_n law_n and_o the_o like_a of_o these_o there_o may_v be_v a_o set_a form_n prescribe_v and_o use_v in_o the_o church_n some_o thing_n again_o be_v not_o necessary_a at_o all_o time_n these_o be_v not_o require_v but_o at_o special_a time_n and_o occasion_n to_o be_v use_v as_o the_o particular_a necessity_n of_o the_o time_n require_v as_o in_o time_n of_o war_n for_o peace_n and_o deliverance_n from_o our_o enemy_n prayer_n in_o the_o time_n of_o dearth_n plague_n pestilence_n or_o any_o great_a mortality_n prayer_n for_o rain_n for_o fair-weather_n in_o the_o time_n of_o need_n and_o thanksgiving_n according_o for_o these_o also_o there_o may_v be_v a_o set_a form_n in_o the_o church_n but_o for_o that_o which_o be_v extraordinary_a the_o minister_n may_v supply_v we_o do_v not_o say_v that_o a_o set_a form_n be_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n either_o in_o public_a or_o private_a prayer_n if_o there_o be_v in_o all_o a_o perfection_n of_o knowledge_n and_o faith_n a_o quickness_n of_o conceit_n and_o a_o full_a freedom_n and_o power_n of_o expression_n we_o shall_v not_o need_v the_o outward_a help_n of_o form_n or_o book_n but_o in_o the_o public_a service_n of_o the_o church_n a_o form_n be_v only_o prescribe_v and_o require_v for_o convenience_n to_o prevent_v some_o miscarriage_n and_o common-prayer_n of_o the_o church_n 3._o consider_v the_o reason_n why_o the_o clerk_n be_v sometime_o to_o say_v after_o the_o minister_n as_o in_o the_o confession_n of_o sin_n the_o lord_n prayer_n people_n why_o they_o shall_v join_v their_o heart_n always_o with_o the_o minister_n in_o the_o common-prayer_n of_o the_o church_n and_o may_v at_o some_o set_a time_n their_o voice_n these_o reason_n may_v be_v render_v 1._o to_o stir_v they_o up_o to_o attention_n to_o shake_v off_o their_o sluggishness_n to_o keep_v they_o from_o slumber_v and_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o several_a part_n of_o divine_a service_n you_o can_v but_o take_v notice_n that_o our_o common_a and_o ordinary_a people_n be_v not_o only_o ignorant_a but_o very_o dull_a and_o lumpish_a in_o the_o performance_n of_o divine_a service_n they_o do_v it_o without_o reverence_n or_o fear_n need_v often_o stir_v up_o and_o quicken_a many_o of_o they_o think_v it_o be_v enough_o call_v they_o shred_n and_o piece_n of_o prayer_n answ_n we_o can_v think_v that_o god_n be_v delight_v with_o the_o multitude_n of_o word_n you_o know_v solomon_n counsel_n eccles_n 5._o 1._o be_v our_o saviour_n christ_n denounce_v a_o woe_n against_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n mat._n 23._o 14._o woe_n unto_o you_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n hypocrite_n for_o you_o devour_v widow_n house_n under_o colour_n of_o long_a prayer_n note_v their_o sin_n of_o hypocrisy_n in_o that_o they_o devour_v widow_n good_n and_o under_o a_o show_n of_o godliness_n not_o as_o if_o he_o do_v find_v
