be_v no_o further_o on_o in_o his_o work_n at_o night_n than_o he_o be_v in_o the_o morning_n and_o he_o must_v go_v to_o it_o the_o next_o day_n and_o nothing_o come_v of_o his_o work_n this_o be_v very_o tedious_a so_o it_o be_v with_o those_o that_o be_v mere_o legal_a in_o their_o performance_n they_o find_v little_a or_o nothing_o come_v of_o all_o their_o performance_n and_o this_o must_v needs_o be_v very_o burdensome_a you_o that_o have_v be_v thus_o burden_v know_v this_o very_a text_n concern_v you_o and_o christ_n have_v thought_n of_o you_o and_o call_v you_o to_o himself_o and_o say_v come_v to_o i_o as_o if_o christ_n shall_v say_v certain_o there_o be_v another_o way_n for_o you_o to_o have_v ease_n and_o rest_n to_o your_o soul_n it_o be_v true_a you_o must_v go_v on_o and_o do_v your_o duty_n but_o you_o must_v come_v to_o know_v i_o in_o the_o gospel_n before_o yoâ—_n 〈◊〉_d have_v ease_n and_o rest_n to_o your_o soul_n the_o 8._o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 8._o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o mere_a legal_a way_n the_o the_o truth_n be_v let_v they_o â—oll_v never_o so_o much_o in_o that_o way_n they_o can_v never_o attain_v to_o their_o end_n let_v they_o â—oil_v never_o so_o much_o perform_v duty_n never_o so_o many_o increase_v their_o duty_n a_o thousand_o fold_n yet_o they_o can_v never_o attain_v unto_o their_o end_n their_o end_n what_o be_v that_o you_o will_v say_v their_o end_n be_v that_o they_o may_v have_v peace_n with_o god_n live_v and_o have_v eternal_a life_n it_o be_v true_a base_a hypocrite_n look_v at_o profit_n many_o will_v make_v a_o show_n of_o religion_n get_v into_o house_n and_o talk_v of_o good_a thing_n that_o they_o may_v get_v good_a cheer_n meat_n and_o drink_n and_o a_o little_a gain_n be_v of_o a_o poor_a and_o unworthy_a spirit_n but_o i_o speak_v of_o those_o that_o be_v grow_v high_a than_o thuâ—_n those_o that_o perform_v duty_n out_o of_o conscience_n and_o yet_o never_o attain_v to_o their_o end_n nor_o never_o will_v attain_v to_o their_o end_n in_o this_o way_n till_o they_o come_v to_o know_v more_o of_o christ_n i_o speak_v of_o such_o as_o desire_v rest_n to_o their_o soul_n yet_o in_o this_o way_n of_o legal_a performance_n never_o gain_v this_o rest_n to_o their_o soul_n and_o and_o therefore_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v burdensome_a unto_o they_o the_o 9_o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 9_o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o mere_a legal_a way_n they_o go_v on_o and_o perform_v duty_n but_o whether_o god_n accept_v of_o they_o yea_o or_o no_o they_o can_v tell_v do_v they_o they_o must_v but_o whether_o god_n be_v their_o enemy_n or_o their_o friend_n they_o can_v tell_v tender_v up_o duty_n to_o god_n they_o do_v every_o day_n but_o whether_o they_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o a_o enemy_n or_o a_o friend_n they_o do_v not_o know_v sometime_o they_o have_v perhaps_o some_o good_a hope_n that_o god_n accept_v they_o but_o never_o come_v to_o any_o knowledge_n of_o god_n acceptance_n they_o go_v up_o and_o down_o continual_o with_o jealous_a thought_n of_o god_n fear_v leaâ—â—od_a will_v take_v advantage_n of_o they_o at_o the_o last_o this_o musâ—â—e_o burdensome_a many_o poor_a soul_n have_v go_v on_o in_o tâ—â—tion_n one_o seven_o year_n after_o another_o and_o all_o for_o thâ—_n of_o come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n for_o rest_n unto_o their_o soul_n then_o come_v rest_n to_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o sinner_n when_o it_o know_v and_o can_v say_v upon_o good_a ground_n though_o my_o heart_n have_v much_o corruption_n though_o my_o duty_n have_v much_o imperfection_n yet_o through_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n what_o i_o do_v the_o lord_n accept_v of_o i_o whereas_o the_o other_o never_o come_v to_o know_v that_o god_n do_v accept_v they_o though_o they_o perform_v their_o duty_n never_o so_o well_o the_o 10._o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 10._o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o mere_a legal_a way_n their_o spirit_n be_v hurry_v on_o to_o do_v the_o work_n to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o conscience_n require_v although_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o weakness_n the_o do_v of_o such_o a_o thing_n at_o such_o a_o time_n will_v hinder_v the_o do_v of_o other_o duty_n that_o god_n require_v of_o they_o but_o yet_o do_v it_o they_o must_v i_o do_v not_o say_v duty_n be_v not_o to_o be_v do_v at_o this_o time_n but_o such_o thing_n as_o conscience_n tell_v they_o be_v good_a they_o be_v hurry_v on_o to_o do_v they_o present_o though_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o weakness_n the_o do_v of_o they_o now_o do_v hinder_v they_o from_o do_v other_o thing_n of_o more_o consequence_n as_o we_o find_v by_o experience_n many_o that_o be_v weak_a yet_o under_o the_o command_n of_o conscience_n and_o be_v in_o a_o legal_a way_n sudden_o there_o come_v such_o a_o thing_n into_o their_o
mind_n i_o must_v spend_v so_o much_o time_n in_o prayer_n say_v conscience_n you_o can_v do_v too_o much_o for_o god_n and_o why_o shall_v you_o not_o spend_v so_o much_o time_n for_o god_n now_o by_o this_o mean_v they_o be_v hurry_v on_o to_o do_v the_o duty_n though_o by_o the_o do_n of_o it_o at_o that_o time_n they_o shall_v hinder_v themselves_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o many_o other_o duty_n afterward_o and_o i_o have_v know_v by_o experience_n many_o that_o have_v be_v greivous_o burden_v this_o way_n what_o they_o present_o apprehend_v to_o have_v any_o good_a in_o it_o that_o they_o think_v they_o must_v do_v although_o they_o by_o that_o be_v hinder_v in_o the_o performance_n of_o many_o other_o duty_n afterward_o whereas_o now_o if_o we_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o liberty_n we_o have_v in_o christ_n we_o will_v be_v able_a to_o satisfy_v ourselves_o this_o way_n though_o i_o be_o weak_a now_o yet_o i_o can_v appeal_v to_o god_n that_o my_o heart_n be_v upright_o and_o though_o i_o do_v forbear_v the_o do_v of_o such_o a_o thing_n that_o in_o its_o own_o nature_n be_v good_a yet_o my_o conscience_n tell_v i_o it_o be_v not_o through_o a_o wilful_a neglect_n of_o what_o may_v glorify_v god_n nor_o because_o i_o will_v neglect_v any_o duty_n that_o god_n will_v have_v i_o do_v but_o because_o i_o know_v through_o my_o weakness_n the_o do_v of_o this_o at_o this_o time_n will_v hinder_v i_o in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n otherways_o therefore_o i_o believe_v that_o god_n will_v accept_v of_o i_o in_o christ_n and_o pardon_v my_o infirmity_n thus_o the_o soul_n can_v do_v that_o be_v in_o christ_n but_o those_o that_o be_v legal_a conscience_n put_v they_o upon_o duty_n without_o regard_v their_o strength_n and_o so_o put_v they_o upon_o strong_a duty_n when_o they_o be_v in_o the_o weak_a capacity_n when_o they_o be_v weak_a conscience_n will_v put_v they_o upon_o the_o strong_a duty_n now_o this_o be_v for_o the_o want_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o their_o liberty_n in_o jesus_n christ_n for_o they_o have_v this_o liberty_n in_o christ_n that_o christ_n accept_v of_o they_o according_a to_o what_o they_o be_v able_a to_o do_v the_o gospel_n hold_v forth_o this_o acceptance_n that_o let_v they_o go_v on_o to_o do_v what_o they_o be_v command_v in_o uprightness_n and_o though_o they_o can_v do_v such_o duty_n because_o they_o be_v weak_a yet_o god_n accept_v of_o they_o for_o christ_n sake_n which_o one_o that_o be_v legal_a can_v do_v but_o conscience_n hurry_v he_o on_o to_o do_v rhe_n duty_n when_o he_o be_v most_o weak_a and_o so_o he_o do_v less_o for_o god_n then_o otherwise_o he_o will_v or_o shall_v do_v the_o 11._o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 11._o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o mere_a legal_a way_n go_v on_o toil_a but_o still_o they_o do_v not_o know_v whether_o they_o shall_v hold_v out_o or_o no_o i_o go_v on_o and_o do_v my_o duty_n but_o what_o will_v become_v of_o i_o god_n know_v i_o do_v not_o know_v whether_o i_o shall_v hold_v out_o or_o no_o i_o be_o afraid_a that_o when_o i_o have_v do_v all_o labour_v and_o toil_v what_o i_o can_v that_o i_o shall_v prove_v a_o apostate_n a_o backslider_n at_o last_o thus_o they_o have_v many_o such_o jealousy_n of_o themselves_o as_o they_o be_v full_a of_o jealousy_n of_o god_n so_o of_o themselves_o they_o be_v afraid_a of_o themselves_o well_o if_o trouble_n and_o affliction_n come_v i_o shall_v fall_v off_o and_o turn_v and_o manifest_a that_o i_o be_v but_o a_o hypocrite_n and_o always_o unsound_a now_o these_o very_a thought_n make_v their_o life_n and_o duty_n burdensome_a unto_o they_o whenas_o one_o that_o have_v the_o benefit_n of_o the_o freedom_n of_o the_o gospel_n one_o that_o be_v in_o christ_n he_o can_v go_v on_o well_o though_o i_o be_o but_o weak_a yet_o i_o have_v a_o everlasting_a principle_n that_o will_v hold_v for_o i_o do_v it_o by_o the_o strength_n that_o be_v everlasting_a though_o i_o be_v weak_a yet_o i_o be_o fasten_v to_o that_o that_o be_v everlasting_a i_o be_o carry_v on_o by_o such_o a_o principle_n that_o will_v hold_v on_o to_o everlasting_a life_n and_o oh_o what_o a_o rest_n be_v this_o here_o be_v rest_n indeed_o for_o the_o soul_n to_o know_v that_o though_o i_o be_o weak_a yet_o i_o shall_v hold_v on_o to_o everlasting_a life_n whenas_o one_o that_o be_v legal_a he_o be_v ever_o jealous_a and_o he_o think_v what_o do_v i_o this_o for_o i_o shall_v fall_v off_o at_o last_o and_o so_o go_v on_o heavy_o and_o be_v trouble_v in_o his_o thought_n and_o this_o make_v both_o his_o duty_n and_o his_o life_n burdensome_a still_o i_o say_v christ_n call_v upon_o all_o these_o to_o come_v unto_o he_o still_o there_o be_v a_o rest_n in_o jesus_n christ_n it_o be_v impossible_a we_o shall_v speak_v of_o all_o these_o thing_n at_o once_o but_o now_o i_o will_v only_o find_v out_o those_o that_o christ_n call_v you_o that_o find_v it_o thus_o that_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v just_a as_o it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o word_n i_o find_v it_o in_o my_o heart_n i_o only_o speak_v to_o you_o to_o raise_v up_o your_o heart_n to_o attend_v to_o what_o be_v further_o to_o be_v say_v afterward_o only_o remember_v that_o of_o the_o poor_a blind_a man_n when_o christ_n call_v he_o they_o comfort_v he_o with_o this_o be_v of_o good_a comfort_n he_o call_v thou_o so_o i_o say_v to_o you_o that_o labour_n under_o this_o burden_n and_o long_a to_o know_v the_o true_a liberty_n of_o spirit_n that_o the_o saint_n have_v in_o christ_n christ_n call_v to_o you_o and_o say_v come_v unto_o i_o all_o you_o that_o be_v weary_a and_o heavy_a lade_v and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v the_o 12._o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 12._o those_o that_o be_v thus_o legal_a their_o conscience_n put_v they_o upon_o performance_n of_o duty_n but_o their_o humiliation_n and_o trouble_n for_o not_o do_v of_o what_o they_o ought_v to_o do_v do_v hinder_v they_o from_o do_v what_o god_n require_v and_o this_o be_v a_o sad_a condition_n that_o when_o i_o have_v not_o do_v my_o duty_n and_o be_o trouble_v for_o not_o do_v my_o duty_n that_o do_v hinder_v i_o from_o do_v my_o duty_n whereas_o those_o that_o have_v evangelical_n humiliation_n it_o make_v they_o more_o fit_a to_o do_v duty_n the_o other_o it_o make_v they_o more_o unfit_a their_o heart_n be_v more_o sullen_a fretful_a and_o untoward_a and_o this_o be_v a_o sad_a condition_n that_o not_o only_o they_o fail_v in_o other_o duty_n but_o when_o they_o be_v trouble_v for_o this_o they_o fail_v moâ—e_n first_o they_o fail_v of_o their_o duty_n and_o their_o heart_n be_v harden_v a_o great_a while_n and_o then_o they_o complain_v that_o their_o heart_n be_v harden_v and_o that_o they_o can_v be_v humble_v for_o their_o sin_n after_o this_o complaint_n they_o begin_v to_o be_v trouble_v for_o their_o sin_n and_o then_o on_o the_o other_o side_n when_o they_o be_v trouble_v after_o such_o away_o as_o they_o grow_v sullen_a and_o discontent_a vex_v and_o fret_v of_o themselves_o and_o by_o this_o they_o come_v to_o be_v hinder_v as_o much_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o their_o duty_n as_o by_o the_o hardness_n of_o their_o heart_n before_o some_o be_v hinder_v by_o their_o hardness_n of_o heart_n from_o perform_v of_o duty_n and_o other_o by_o their_o humility_n now_o this_o be_v a_o very_a great_a burden_n you_o may_v some_o of_o you_o find_v it_o in_o your_o own_o experience_n that_o the_o trouble_n of_o your_o heart_n have_v rather_o hinder_v you_o then_o further_v you_o in_o duty_n as_o in_o exodus_fw-la when_o moses_n come_v to_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n the_o text_n say_v they_o do_v not_o harken_v unto_o he_o because_o of_o the_o anguish_n of_o their_o heart_n so_o there_o be_v many_o people_n that_o have_v such_o legal_a trouble_n in_o their_o heart_n and_o that_o for_o their_o sin_n as_o it_o do_v hinder_v they_o from_o harken_v unto_o the_o bless_a sound_n of_o the_o gospel_n it_o make_v they_o more_o unfit_a to_o harken_v to_o the_o invitation_n of_o christ_n to_o come_v unto_o he_o yea_o such_o kind_n of_o trouble_n they_o have_v for_o their_o sin_n that_o make_v they_o as_o it_o be_v reason_n away_o the_o bless_a comfort_n in_o the_o gospel_n to_o their_o soul_n chap._n x._o the_o sad_a condition_n of_o such_o as_o be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n set_v forth_o in_o six_o particular_n 1._o that_o which_o shall_v be_v account_v their_o happiness_n be_v their_o misery_n 2._o it_o be_v a_o mean_n to_o cause_v hard_a thought_n of_o god_n 3._o it_o cause_v great_a discouragement_n 4._o they_o bring_v a_o
now_o this_o i_o may_v show_v you_o in_o abundance_n of_o scripture_n in_o the_o very_a first_o commission_n that_o jesus_n christ_n give_v unto_o his_o apostle_n after_o his_o resurrection_n to_o go_v and_o preach_v throughout_o the_o world_n he_o say_v unto_o they_o in_o mark_n 16.15_o verse_n go_v you_o into_o all_o the_o world_n and_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o every_o creature_n he_o that_o believe_v and_o be_v baptise_a shall_v be_v save_v this_o be_v clear_a that_o christ_n will_v have_v we_o in_o our_o first_o believe_v to_o have_v a_o aim_n at_o our_o own_o good_a and_o so_o we_o find_v such_o a_o kind_n of_o promise_n as_o this_o be_v in_o the_o text_n in_o jer._n 6.16_o verse_n thus_o say_v the_o lord_n stand_v in_o the_o way_n and_o see_v and_o ask_v for_o the_o old_a path_n where_o the_o good_a way_n be_v and_o walk_v therein_o and_o you_o shall_v find_v rest_n for_o your_o soul_n inquire_v after_o the_o good_a way_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v rest_n for_o your_o soul_n so_o that_o you_o see_v god_n propound_v duty_n together_o with_o promise_n the_o lord_n know_v what_o be_v best_a for_o we_o and_o what_o will_v work_v most_o upon_o we_o and_o therefore_o for_o we_o to_o think_v that_o we_o must_v have_v no_o aim_n at_o all_o of_o any_o good_a to_o ourselves_o in_o come_v to_o christ_n and_o that_o it_o be_v no_o grace_n but_o self-love_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n for_o our_o own_o good_a this_o be_v a_o temptation_n i_o speak_v the_o rather_o this_o point_n because_o i_o know_v how_o useful_a it_o be_v unto_o many_o poor_a soul_n who_o the_o lord_n be_v draw_v unto_o jesus_n christ_n the_o lord_n have_v take_v off_o their_o heart_n from_o sinful_a self_n they_o will_v not_o enjoy_v themselves_o in_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n as_o former_o the_o lord_n have_v make_v they_o willing_a to_o deny_v their_o own_o opinion_n their_o own_o will_n their_o own_o affection_n their_o former_a way_n to_o deny_v themselves_o in_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n so_o as_o to_o prize_v he_o and_o christ_n and_o his_o way_n the_o way_n of_o christ_n more_o than_o they_o prize_v their_o very_a life_n here_o in_o this_o world_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o there_o come_v a_o temptation_n upon_o they_o i_o but_o you_o seek_v christ_n only_o to_o free_v you_o from_o hell_n and_o to_o save_v you_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v but_o self-love_n it_o be_v no_o true_a grace_n because_o that_o you_o aim_v at_o yourselves_o rather_o than_o christ_n the_o devil_n can_v prevail_v with_o a_o heart_n that_o then_o the_o devil_n put_v this_o in_o oh_o but_o you_o come_v to_o christ_n for_o your_o own_o good_a now_o for_o the_o help_a against_o this_o temptation_n know_v 1._o that_o the_o lord_n at_o the_o mourning_n lament_v spirit_n be_v one_o of_o the_o most_o precious_a thing_n in_o the_o eye_n of_o god_n god_n treasure_n up_o every_o one_o of_o they_o and_o this_o be_v the_o rest_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o soul_n may_v have_v abundance_n of_o rest_n therefore_o in_o christ_n when_o thou_o come_v to_o know_v that_o thy_o mourning_n for_o thy_o offence_n be_v accept_v of_o god_n seven_o the_o ease_n that_o the_o soul_n have_v from_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n be_v this_o that_o whereas_o before_o through_o the_o severity_n of_o the_o law_n sin_n do_v make_v thy_o soul_n a_o object_n rest_n be_v to_o that_o soul_n from_o what_o the_o law_n can_v require_v so_o that_o as_o we_o go_v along_o we_o may_v not_o only_o see_v the_o benefit_n we_o have_v by_o christ_n but_o who_o they_o be_v that_o be_v thus_o deliver_v those_o who_o though_o they_o know_v they_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o burden_n of_o it_o yet_o they_o do_v account_v their_o sin_n the_o affliction_n of_o their_o soul_n whereas_o other_o that_o be_v mere_o legal_a they_o apprehend_v their_o soul_n as_o guilty_a and_o under_o condemnation_n but_o if_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o it_o they_o will_v look_v upon_o their_o sin_n as_o their_o wound_n and_o affliction_n the_o saint_n they_o see_v that_o they_o be_v now_o make_v the_o object_n of_o god_n pity_n and_o compassion_n towards_o they_o and_o hence_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o christ_n be_v willing_a if_o it_o be_v possible_a to_o find_v many_o excuse_n that_o may_v be_v make_v for_o his_o poor_a servant_n thou_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o find_v out_o any_o excuse_n if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n that_o may_v alleviate_v and_o lessen_v thy_o sin_n christ_n will_v find_v it_o our_o and_o lessen_v it_o for_o thou_o you_o know_v what_o christ_n say_v to_o his_o disciple_n when_o they_o be_v sleep_v and_o can_v not_o watch_v one_o hour_n though_o he_o rebuke_n they_o yet_o he_o say_v though_o the_o flesh_n be_v weak_a yet_o the_o christ_n undertake_v to_o excuse_v they_o and_o therefore_o you_o that_o have_v so_o many_o excuse_n for_o your_o sin_n just_a as_o your_o grandfather_n adam_n have_v he_o put_v it_o off_o to_o the_o woman_n and_o the_o woman_n unto_o the_o serpent_n and_o one_o to_o another_o so_o you_o it_o be_v true_a my_o nature_n be_v passionate_a and_o i_o be_o froward_a by_o nature_n and_o a_o hundred_o christ_n they_o have_v christ_n to_o make_v all_o the_o excuse_n for_o they_o oh_o take_v heed_n of_o abuse_v the_o rich_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n this_o i_o know_v that_o this_o be_v such_o a_o pure_a quality_n that_o it_o have_v not_o such_o a_o malignant_a quality_n in_o it_o that_o it_o will_v be_v abuse_v and_o where_o you_o see_v any_o such_o quality_n know_v that_o they_o have_v it_o not_o aright_o they_o have_v something_o else_o instead_o of_o the_o thing_n as_o sometime_o you_o shall_v see_v two_o thing_n as_o like_v one_o another_o as_o can_v be_v suppose_v drink_v make_v with_o some_o kind_n of_o composition_n they_o shall_v look_v just_a like_o one_o another_o but_o one_o shall_v have_v some_o venom_n in_o it_o enough_o to_o kill_v one_o and_o the_o other_o shall_v be_v wholesome_a and_o able_a to_o recover_v one_o yet_o both_o shall_v have_v the_o same_o â—ur_n and_o the_o same_o taste_n so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o free_a grace_v in_o christ_n you_o may_v have_v the_o same_o word_n speak_v â—e_z thing_n express_v to_o one_o and_o to_o another_o the_o very_a same_o thing_n preach_v for_o the_o outside_n of_o it_o for_o the_o word_n for_o the_o expression_n in_o a_o sermon_n the_o same_o doctrine_n raise_v for_o the_o expression_n and_o yet_o they_o shall_v be_v so_o carry_v that_o one_o shall_v have_v a_o malignancy_n in_o it_o and_o the_o other_o shall_v have_v a_o sovereign_a power_n in_o it_o now_o when_o the_o soul_n have_v the_o true_a rest_n in_o christ_n that_o rest_n have_v not_o such_o a_o malignant_a power_n to_o make_v the_o heart_n worse_o by_o it_o but_o of_o that_o i_o shall_v speak_v more_o afterward_o eight_o when_o thou_o be_v come_v to_o christ_n thy_o soul_n
eternal_a life_n itself_o and_o therefore_o there_o be_v rest_n in_o it_o it_o be_v so_o far_o from_o get_v eternal_a life_n by_o it_o as_o it_o be_v rather_o eternal_a life_n itself_o than_o so_o much_o as_o any_o way_n to_o eternal_a life_n for_o this_o may_v be_v say_v though_o i_o perform_v duty_n it_o be_v true_a god_n have_v teach_v i_o so_o much_o that_o now_o under_o the_o gospel_n we_o must_v not_o think_v to_o get_v eternal_a life_n by_o our_o duty_n by_o our_o work_n this_o be_v popery_n yet_o it_o be_v the_o way_n to_o eternal_a life_n the_o way_n that_o tend_v to_o it_o it_o way_n to_o life_n it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o ease_n and_o rest_n to_o one_o spirit_n to_o consider_v of_o holy_a duty_n but_o as_o the_o way_n to_o heaven_n if_o a_o man_n be_v go_v a_o journey_n and_o know_v the_o end_n of_o his_o journey_n shall_v be_v very_o glorious_a to_o he_o if_o it_o be_v to_o receive_v a_o crown_n a_o kingdom_n though_o it_o be_v a_o boisterous_a day_n and_o stormy_a weather_n and_o the_o way_n be_v very_o foul_a he_o will_v not_o be_v trouble_v at_o it_o but_o he_o will_v account_v it_o very_o comfortable_a to_o know_v that_o he_o be_v in_o the_o right_a way_n for_o he_o think_v this_o will_v lead_v i_o to_o my_o journey_n end_n and_o when_o i_o come_v there_o that_o will_v make_v amends_o for_o al._n and_o the_o truth_n be_v there_o be_v ease_n and_o rest_n enough_o in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n if_o god_n do_v reveal_v no_o more_o unto_o a_o soul_n than_o this_o these_o be_v the_o way_n that_o lead_v thou_o to_o life_n and_o salvation_n that_o lead_v thou_o to_o a_o kingdom_n to_o glory_n especial_o consider_v that_o before_o we_o be_v out_o of_o the_o way_n we_o be_v wander_v in_o the_o way_n of_o death_n and_o destruction_n and_o god_n by_o his_o almighty_a hand_n have_v bring_v we_o into_o the_o right_a way_n when_o a_o man_n be_v go_v a_o journey_n of_o great_a consequence_n and_o he_o be_v go_v out_o of_o the_o way_n and_o god_n by_o his_o providence_n have_v bring_v he_o into_o his_o right_a way_n o_o what_o ease_n be_v in_o his_o spirit_n before_o when_o he_o be_v out_o of_o the_o way_n what_o distraction_n and_o disquietness_n of_o heart_n but_o now_o when_o he_o come_v into_o the_o way_n oh_o what_o ease_n and_o quiet_a be_v in_o his_o spirit_n so_o i_o say_v this_o be_v ease_n and_o rest_n enough_o of_o spirit_n to_o know_v that_o whereas_o before_o the_o soul_n be_v wander_v in_o the_o path_n of_o death_n now_o it_o be_v in_o the_o path_n of_o life_n but_o i_o tell_v you_o further_o than_o so_o that_o when_o thou_o be_v perform_v of_o holy_a duty_n and_o exercise_v of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o those_o duty_n thou_o be_v not_o only_o in_o the_o way_n of_o eternal_a life_n but_o thou_o be_v in_o eternal_a life_n itself_o not_o only_o in_o the_o way_n to_o the_o kingdom_n but_o in_o the_o kingdom_n not_o only_o in_o the_o way_n to_o heaven_n but_o in_o heaven_n it_o be_v eternal_a life_n this_o be_v eternal_a life_n to_o know_v thou_o the_o true_a god_n and_o thy_o son_n who_o thou_o have_v send_v into_o the_o world_n and_o that_o place_n in_o the_o epistle_n of_o st._n john_n he_o speak_v of_o a_o murderer_n one_o that_o do_v hate_v his_o brother_n in_o the_o first_o of_o john_n 3.15_o whosoever_o hate_v his_o brother_n be_v a_o murderer_n and_o you_o know_v that_o no_o murderer_n have_v eternal_a life_n abide_v in_o he_o then_o it_o appear_v that_o one_o that_o love_v his_o brother_n and_o be_v godly_a and_o gracious_a have_v eternal_a life_n abide_v in_o he_o for_o that_o must_v needs_o follow_v if_o this_o be_v the_o evil_a condition_n of_o a_o wicked_a man_n that_o hate_v his_o brother_n that_o he_o rom._n 8.30_o who_o god_n have_v predestinate_v they_o he_o also_o have_v call_v &_o who_o he_o have_v call_v they_o he_o have_v justify_v &_o who_o he_o have_v justify_v they_o he_o have_v also_o glorify_v mark_v but_o where_o be_v the_o link_n of_o sanctification_n it_o be_v not_o who_o he_o have_v predestinate_v he_o have_v call_v and_o who_o he_o have_v call_v he_o have_v sanctify_v and_o who_o he_o have_v sanctify_v he_o have_v glorify_v one_o will_v have_v think_v the_o chain_n shall_v have_v go_v along_o in_o that_o link_n but_o there_o be_v no_o mention_n of_o sanctification_n receive_v thy_o wage_n when_o thou_o be_v perform_v of_o duty_n in_o rom._n 6._o and_o the_o last_o the_o wage_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n but_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n be_v eternal_a life_n through_o jesus_n christ_n at_o the_o 22._o verse_n it_o be_v thus_o but_o now_o be_v free_v from_o sin_n and_o become_v servant_n unto_o god_n you_o have_v your_o fruit_n unto_o holiness_n and_o the_o end_n everlasting_a life_n for_o the_o wage_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n but_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n be_v eternal_a life_n through_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n you_o have_v your_o fruit_n unto_o receive_v god_n mercy_n from_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o there_o will_v be_v link_n of_o god_n mercy_n towards_o
christ_n for_o this_o rest_n sanctification_n the_o rest_n from_o corruption_n i._o sanctification_n be_v great_a rest_n unto_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o believer_n the_o truth_n be_v there_o be_v nothing_o trouble_v the_o heart_n of_o a_o strong_a believer_n but_o only_o the_o want_n of_o his_o sanctification_n nothing_o in_o the_o world_n i_o say_v trouble_v the_o heart_n of_o a_o strong_a believer_n but_o that_o it_o be_v time_n a_o weak_a believer_n be_v trouble_v for_o want_n of_o the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o his_o sin_n a_o weak_a believer_n have_v trouble_v of_o spirit_n still_o in_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n but_o a_o strong_a believer_n get_v over_o that_o a_o weak_a believer_n have_v trouble_v by_o the_o law_n still_o because_o through_o the_o weakness_n of_o his_o faith_n he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o make_v use_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o god_n have_v bring_v he_o into_o so_o as_o to_o deliver_v himself_o from_o trouble_n that_o way_n a_o strong_a believer_n get_v over_o that_o a_o weak_a believer_n perform_v duty_n but_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o legality_n in_o his_o performance_n of_o they_o that_o many_o time_n they_o be_v troublesome_a to_o he_o but_o a_o strong_a believer_n get_v over_o that_o burden_n but_o now_o the_o remain_a corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n none_o in_o
