in_o judgement_n as_o for_o example_n if_o a_o man_n shall_v come_v and_o proffer_v a_o man_n one_o hundred_o pound_n not_o to_o leave_v such_o a_o action_n and_o another_o man_n shall_v come_v and_o offer_v he_o two_o hundred_o pound_n to_o leave_v it_o if_o the_o man_n be_v weak_a in_o judgement_n he_o will_v be_v draw_v by_o the_o great_a reward_n though_o it_o be_v evil_a therefore_o if_o the_o spirit_n do_v proceed_v from_o a_o most_o holy_a and_o pure_a god_n therefore_o it_o can_v choose_v but_o be_v a_o holy_a work_n that_o he_o work_v second_o the_o second_o thing_n require_v in_o the_o soul_n be_v this_o by_o give_v unto_o the_o soul_n a_o effectual_a worke._n operative_a and_o powerful_a faculty_n and_o that_o be_v do_v by_o rear_v the_o inward_a man_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o set_v up_o the_o build_n of_o grace_n and_o this_o he_o do_v by_o shed_v abroad_o in_o the_o heart_n the_o bless_a effect_n of_o grace_n unto_o every_o faculty_n as_o the_o blood_n be_v infuse_v into_o every_o vein_n or_o as_o the_o soul_n go_v through_o every_o part_n of_o the_o body_n and_o so_o give_v life_n unto_o it_o so_o do_v the_o spirit_n go_v through_o all_o the_o part_n of_o the_o soul_n by_o infuse_v spiritual_a life_n and_o power_n into_o they_o and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n call_v it_o eph._n 1._o his_o effectual_a power_n that_o be_v he_o have_v such_o efficacy_n in_o work_v that_o he_o infuse_v spiritual_a life_n unto_o the_o whole_a soul_n the_o second_o way_n how_o the_o spirit_n strengthen_v worke._n grace_n be_v this_o when_o he_o have_v set_v up_o the_o building_n and_o sweep_v every_o corner_n of_o the_o soul_n than_o he_o enable_v the_o soul_n to_o do_v more_o than_o it_o can_v do_v by_o nature_n by_o put_v new_a habit_n and_o quality_n in_o the_o soul_n as_o first_o when_o a_o man_n can_v do_v more_o than_o a_o natural_a man_n can_v do_v by_o nature_n than_o the_o spirit_n have_v add_v new_a habit_n as_o for_o example_n any_o hand_n can_v cut_v with_o a_o chissell_n or_o the_o like_a instrument_n but_o if_o he_o can_v by_o it_o make_v a_o picture_n this_o be_v a_o work_n above_o nature_n because_o no_o man_n can_v do_v it_o unless_o he_o have_v be_v reach_v it_o so_o when_o the_o spirit_n come_v into_o the_o heart_n than_o it_o make_v a_o man_n to_o do_v more_o then_o natural_o he_o can_v do_v water_n you_o know_v the_o nature_n of_o it_o be_v cold_a but_o if_o you_o will_v have_v it_o of_o another_o quality_n than_o you_o must_v put_v a_o quality_n of_o fire_n into_o it_o so_o the_o soul_n be_v dead_a and_o cold_a by_o nature_n but_o if_o a_o quality_n of_o the_o fire_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v add_v unto_o it_o than_o it_o will_v be_v able_a to_o do_v more_o than_o it_o natural_o can_v do_v therefore_o examine_v what_o new_a habit_n and_o quality_n be_v in_o you_o whether_o you_o have_v a_o new_a habit_n of_o patience_n love_n hope_v and_o experience_n that_o be_v as_o patience_n beget_v experience_n and_o experience_n hope_v so_o where_o the_o spirit_n be_v it_o do_v beget_v new_a habit_n and_o quality_n in_o the_o soul_n by_o which_o it_o be_v able_a to_o do_v more_o then_o natural_o it_o can_v do_v as_o i_o say_v it_o first_o build_v the_o house_n and_o sweep_v the_o room_n and_o then_o it_o fit_v and_o furnish_v the_o room_n with_o new_a habit_n and_o quality_n of_o grace_n the_o three_o way_n how_o the_o spirit_n strengthen_v worke._n grace_n be_v this_o when_o it_o have_v give_v we_o new_a habit_n than_o it_o enable_v and_o help_v we_o to_o use_v these_o habit_n to_o good_a and_o herein_o appear_v the_o power_n and_o excellency_n of_o the_o spirit_n not_o only_o to_o give_v spiritual_a life_n and_o strength_n but_o also_o to_o enable_v we_o to_o use_v that_o strength_n for_o the_o strengthen_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n there_o may_v be_v quality_n and_o habit_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o yet_o want_v power_n to_o use_v they_o as_o for_o example_n a_o man_n that_o be_v asleep_a he_o have_v habit_n and_o quality_n but_o he_o want_v power_n to_o use_v they_o or_o as_o a_o man_n that_o have_v a_o instrument_n that_o will_v sound_v well_o but_o he_o want_v skill_n to_o use_v it_o so_o many_o man_n they_o have_v habit_n and_o quality_n but_o because_o they_o want_v power_n to_o use_v they_o therefore_o they_o be_v not_o strengthen_v in_o the_o inward_a man_n but_o he_o that_o have_v the_o spirit_n have_v withal_o power_n to_o use_v those_o habit_n to_o good_a therefore_o it_o be_v say_v that_o they_o speak_v as_o the_o spirit_n give_v they_o utterance_n that_o be_v they_o have_v power_n from_o the_o spirit_n to_o speak_v to_o do_v to_o use_v those_o habit_n which_o be_v in_o they_o thus_o samson_n by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n have_v power_n to_o use_v his_o strength_n act_v 4._o 32._o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o apostle_n speak_v bold_o that_o be_v they_o have_v power_n for_o you_o must_v know_v that_o there_o 32._o may_v be_v common_a grace_n yet_o now_o and_o then_o for_o the_o present_a want_n action_n you_o may_v want_v a_o power_n to_o do_v aught_o with_o it_o and_o it_o be_v then_o when_o the_o spirit_n seem_v to_o absent_v himself_o from_o the_o soul_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o in_o heb._n 11._o brethren_n you_o have_v forget_v the_o consolation_n that_o be_v your_o spiritual_a strength_n and_o power_n be_v hide_v as_o dead_a and_o forget_v but_o the_o spirit_n will_v return_v and_o you_o shall_v find_v your_o power_n to_o good_a again_o the_o four_o way_n whereby_o the_o spirit_n strengthen_v worke._n grace_n in_o the_o soul_n be_v by_o give_v efficacy_n and_o power_n unto_o the_o mean_n of_o growth_n which_o be_v a_o

strengthen_v grace_n in_o the_o soul_n by_o building_n and_o set_v up_o the_o build_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o then_o by_o furnish_v the_o room_n with_o new_a habit_n and_o quality_n of_o grace_n and_o then_o by_o give_v power_n unto_o the_o soul_n to_o use_v those_o habit_n to_o good_a and_o then_o by_o give_v a_o blessing_n unto_o all_o the_o mean_n of_o grace_n the_o use_n of_o this_o stand_v thus_o if_o the_o spirit_n be_v the_o only_a mean_n to_o strengthen_v the_o inward_a man_n than_o use_v it_o will_v follow_v that_o whosoever_o have_v not_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v not_o this_o strength_n and_o whatsoever_o strength_n a_o man_n may_v seem_v to_o have_v unto_o himself_o if_o it_o proceed_v not_o from_o the_o spirit_n it_o be_v no_o true_a strength_n but_o a_o false_a and_o counterfeit_a strength_n for_o a_o man_n may_v thus_o argue_v from_o the_o cause_n unto_o the_o effect_n the_o true_a cause_n of_o strength_n must_v needs_o bring_v forth_o strong_a on_o fire_n it_o set_v their_o tongue_n on_o fire_n so_o when_o the_o spirit_n enter_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a it_o will_v fill_v it_o full_a of_o heat_n and_o zeal_n the_o heart_n the_o tongue_n the_o hand_n the_o foot_n and_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o part_n will_v be_v full_a of_o the_o heat_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o it_o be_v unpossible_a that_o any_o man_n shall_v have_v true_a zeal_n except_o he_o have_v the_o spirit_n therefore_o it_o be_v say_v that_o they_o speak_v with_o new_a tongue_n as_o the_o spirit_n give_v they_o utterance_n they_o speak_v with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o zeal_n of_o another_o nature_n and_o quality_n than_o they_o do_v before_o well_o then_o examine_v what_o heat_n and_o zeal_n you_o have_v in_o your_o action_n so_o much_o heat_n so_o much_o spirit_n he_o shall_v baptize_v you_o with_o the_o spirit_n and_o with_o fire_n if_o you_o have_v the_o sanctify_a spirit_n you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o the_o zeal_n that_o be_v in_o you_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n therefore_o i_o say_v this_o be_v a_o excellent_a sign_n whereby_o a_o man_n may_v know_v whether_o he_o have_v the_o spirit_n
regard_n of_o the_o quality_n and_o disposition_n to_o what_o it_o be_v and_o yet_o in_o substance_n remain_v the_o same_o as_o for_o example_n put_v iron_n into_o the_o fire_n the_o iron_n be_v the_o same_o it_o be_v in_o substance_n before_o it_o come_v into_o the_o fire_n but_o now_o it_o have_v another_o quality_n it_o be_v cold_a and_o stiff_a and_o hard_a and_o unplyable_a but_o now_o it_o be_v hot_a and_o soft_a and_o pliable_a and_o this_o change_n be_v throughout_o in_o every_o part_n of_o it_o and_o yet_o it_o be_v iron_n still_o so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o spirit_n when_o it_o come_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a he_o mingle_v and_o infuse_v spiritual_a life_n into_o all_o the_o part_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v if_o christ_n be_v in_o you_o the_o body_n be_v 10._o dead_a as_o touch_v sin_n but_o the_o spirit_n be_v alive_a the_o body_n be_v dead_a that_o be_v as_o touch_v reign_a sin_n he_o be_v like_o a_o tree_n that_o want_v both_o sap_n and_o root_n or_o as_o a_o man_n that_o be_v dead_a that_o want_v a_o soul_n he_o be_v now_o dead_a whatsoever_o he_o be_v before_o but_o the_o spirit_n be_v alive_a to_o god_n therefore_o examine_v if_o this_o through_o great_a change_n be_v in_o you_o see_v then_o what_o death_n there_o be_v in_o you_o to_o sin_n and_o what_o life_n unto_o holiness_n i_o call_v it_o a_o thorough_a and_o great_a change_n because_o a_o little_a one_o will_v never_o bring_v you_o in_o such_o a_o frame_n as_o to_o be_v fit_a for_o heaven_n and_o again_o the_o apostle_n call_v it_o a_o 18._o from_o glory_n to_o glory_n and_o therefore_o consider_v that_o every_o change_n will_v not_o serve_v the_o turn_n but_o it_o must_v be_v a_o great_a change_n as_o the_o change_n of_o christ_n spirit_n for_o your_o own_o spirit_n which_o if_o you_o have_v than_o you_o shall_v come_v out_o of_o every_o affliction_n and_o every_o difficulty_n like_o gold_n out_o of_o the_o furnace_n like_o cloth_n out_o of_o the_o die_n of_o lion_n you_o shall_v be_v lamb_n of_o serpent_n you_o shall_v be_v dove_n therefore_o see_v whether_o this_o change_n be_v in_o you_o or_o no_o if_o this_o change_n be_v sweep_v and_o cleanse_v he_o will_v not_o stay_v but_o seek_v abide_v elsewhere_o but_o on_o the_o contrary_a if_o your_o opinion_n of_o sin_n be_v the_o same_o if_o you_o have_v the_o same_o lust_n reign_v in_o you_o if_o you_o use_v the_o same_o evil_a company_n and_o have_v the_o same_o haunt_n that_o ever_o you_o have_v you_o have_v not_o the_o spirit_n and_o so_o long_o as_o you_o remain_v thus_o do_v you_o think_v that_o christ_n will_v come_v and_o sup_v and_o dine_v with_o you_o and_o yet_o you_o will_v not_o erect_v a_o build_n for_o he_o in_o your_o heart_n therefore_o if_o you_o will_v have_v christ_n and_o the_o spirit_n then_o labour_v to_o get_v holiness_n the_o four_o sign_n whereby_o you_o may_v know_v whether_o sign_n you_o have_v the_o spirit_n or_o no_o be_v this_o if_o it_o be_v but_o a_o common_a spirit_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o it_o will_v do_v by_o you_o as_o the_o angel_n do_v by_o assume_v body_n they_o take_v they_o up_o for_o a_o time_n and_o do_v many_o thing_n with_o they_o to_o serve_v their_o own_o turn_n but_o they_o do_v not_o put_v life_n in_o they_o such_o be_v the_o common_a spirit_n but_o the_o sanctiry_a spirit_n put_v life_n into_o the_o soul_n wherefore_o examine_v yourselves_o whether_o the_o spirit_n make_v you_o live_a man_n or_o no_o for_o when_o the_o sanctify_a spirit_n shall_v join_v with_o the_o soul_n spirit_n and_o on_o the_o contrary_a there_o be_v no_o true_a life_n neither_o be_v man_n to_o be_v esteem_v live_v man_n that_o want_v the_o spirit_n now_o for_o the_o examination_n of_o ourselves_o by_o this_o rule_n consider_v first_o we_o have_v but_o a_o assume_v 1._o body_n of_o grace_n and_o holiness_n when_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o life_n we_o assume_v unto_o ourselves_o only_o the_o outward_a form_n of_o godliness_n but_o regard_v not_o the_o power_n cleave_v in_o our_o affection_n to_o that_o which_o be_v evil_a and_o leave_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v true_o good_a i_o do_v not_o say_v when_o you_o hate_v good_a but_o when_o you_o prefer_v evil_a before_o it_o in_o your_o choice_n and_o set_v it_o at_o the_o high_a end_n of_o the_o table_n and_o serve_v it_o first_o and_o attend_v upon_o it_o most_o when_o that_o cross_v holiness_n but_o you_o will_v not_o again_o cross_v it_o for_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n when_o it_o be_v thus_o with_o you_o whatsoever_o you_o think_v of_o yourselves_o you_o have_v not_o the_o sanctify_a spirit_n but_o a_o common_a spirit_n without_o life_n second_o you_o have_v but_o a_o assume_v body_n of_o grace_n if_o you_o have_v it_o not_o in_o a_o feel_a manner_n the_o 2._o sanctify_a spirit_n work_v a_o spiritual_a sense_n and_o taste_v in_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v if_o you_o have_v the_o sanctify_a spirit_n then_o holy_a thing_n will_v have_v a_o good_a taste_n they_o will_v be_v sweet_a unto_o you_o it_o will_v purge_v out_o that_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o growth_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n on_o the_o contrary_a the_o common_a spirit_n will_v never_o make_v you_o to_o taste_v grace_n as_o it_o be_v grace_n or_o because_o it_o be_v grace_n that_o be_v grace_n will_v not_o be_v a_o dainty_a thing_n it_o will_v be_v without_o a_o good_a savour_n therefore_o examine_v what_o taste_n of_o good_a you_o have_v whether_o you_o can_v relish_v grace_n or_o no_o if_o not_o you_o have_v not_o the_o sanctify_a spirit_n but_o a_o assume_v habit_n of_o grace_n that_o be_v a_o common_a spirit_n without_o the_o life_n of_o grace_n three_o as_o assume_v body_n be_v unconstant_a that_o be_v walk_v only_o for_o a_o time_n but_o they_o walk_v not_o always_o 3._o even_o so_o if_o you_o have_v but_o a_o common_a spirit_n you_o will_v not_o be_v constant_a in_o good_a but_o off_o and_o on_o the_o rule_n a_o man_n that_o be_v live_v in_o christ_n you_o shall_v still_o find_v he_o live_v and_o move_v and_o do_v the_o action_n of_o the_o new_a man_n a_o man_n that_o have_v but_o a_o common_a spirit_n may_v do_v something_n that_o be_v good_a he_o may_v keep_v and_o press_v down_o some_o sin_n awhile_o but_o not_o always_o neither_o then_o because_o it_o be_v sin_n but_o because_o it_o cross_v his_o profit_n or_o pleasure_n or_o some_o other_o thing_n again_o he_o may_v have_v some_o taste_n and_o relish_v of_o spiritual_a thing_n but_o he_o be_v not_o purge_v and_o cleanse_v by_o they_o first_o he_o may_v walk_v as_o a_o live_a man_n walk_v that_o be_v perform_v holy_a duty_n but_o they_o be_v not_o constant_a in_o holy_a duty_n neither_o do_v they_o perform_v they_o in_o obedience_n but_o out_o of_o self_n love_n that_o be_v they_o be_v still_o ebb_v and_o seldom_o flow_v they_o omit_v oft_o than_o they_o perform_v therefore_o let_v i_o exhort_v you_o that_o be_v alive_a and_o have_v be_v dead_a be_v you_o careful_a to_o prize_v your_o life_n and_o you_o that_o have_v be_v alive_a but_o now_o be_v dead_a that_o be_v you_o that_o have_v fall_v from_o your_o holiness_n and_o zeal_n and_o have_v lose_v your_o first_o love_n and_o strength_n labour_v now_o to_o recover_v it_o again_o and_o you_o that_o be_v alive_a and_o yet_o be_v fall_v let_v i_o exhort_v you_o to_o strengthen_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v ready_a to_o die_v if_o there_o be_v any_o here_o
such_o let_v they_o now_o humble_v themselves_o and_o seek_v the_o spirit_n with_o earnestness_n that_o you_o may_v be_v renew_v that_o you_o may_v be_v strengthen_v and_o quicken_v to_o good_a and_o receive_v to_o favour_n again_o but_o if_o you_o will_v not_o but_o continue_v in_o this_o condition_n still_o you_o have_v but_o a_o name_n that_o you_o be_v alive_a but_o indeed_o you_o be_v dead_a rom._n 6._o 8._o it_o be_v say_v that_o they_o that_o die_v in_o christ_n shall_v live_v in_o he_o 8._o if_o you_o once_o live_v the_o life_n of_o grace_n and_o have_v receive_v the_o sanctify_a spirit_n you_o shall_v never_o die_v but_o live_v for_o ever_o in_o christ_n this_o be_v the_o promise_n that_o christ_n make_v unto_o his_o disciple_n and_o in_o they_o unto_o every_o christian_a for_o they_o retain_v the_o love_n of_o sin_n still_o but_o the_o opposition_n and_o resist_v of_o sin_n in_o the_o godly_a be_v by_o way_n of_o lust_a because_o they_o hate_v the_o sin_n and_o they_o the_o manner_n of_o work_v of_o it_o the_o seven_o sign_n whereby_o you_o shall_v know_v whether_o you_o have_v the_o sanctify_a spirit_n or_o no_o be_v sign_n this_o you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o your_o carriage_n in_o your_o word_n and_o action_n and_o by_o your_o christian-like_a walk_n and_o holy_a conversation_n and_o this_o be_v the_o same_o that_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o when_o he_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v love_n joy_n peace_n etc._n etc._n well_o then_o examine_v whether_o you_o have_v the_o spirit_n by_o the_o action_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o by_o the_o teach_n of_o the_o spirit_n for_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n that_o be_v the_o doctor_n of_o the_o soul_n that_o teach_v it_o all_o spiritual_a and_o save_a knowledge_n and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n say_v you_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o be_v teach_v of_o one_o another_o for_o you_o shall_v be_v all_o teach_v of_o god_n that_o be_v mens_fw-la teach_v will_n never_o be_v effectual_a to_o work_v grace_n and_o holiness_n in_o you_o except_o god_n teach_v you_o by_o his_o spirit_n now_o you_o must_v know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o twofold_a teach_n teach_v there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o necessity_n lay_v upon_o they_o by_o god_n in_o the_o very_a instinct_n of_o nature_n so_o when_o the_o spirit_n come_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a it_o open_v another_o light_n in_o the_o mind_n which_o make_v they_o to_o do_v god_n will_v as_o he_o teach_v they_o and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o i_o need_v not_o to_o teach_v you_o the_o difference_n between_o these_o two_o in_o these_o thing_n if_o a_o holy_a man_n have_v go_v beside_o the_o way_n assoon_o as_o the_o passion_n or_o temptation_n be_v once_o past_a he_o will_v return_v again_o unto_o the_o right_a way_n he_o will_v not_o go_v forward_o nor_o stand_v still_o but_o he_o will_v return_v but_o the_o other_o though_o in_o some_o sense_n he_o know_v it_o and_o so_o many_o man_n will_v receive_v the_o gospel_n and_o joy_n in_o the_o profession_n of_o it_o but_o they_o will_v not_o suffer_v for_o christ_n because_o they_o be_v not_o humble_a that_o be_v the_o
