must_v we_o not_o meet_v together_o to_o worship_n god_n at_o all_o or_o be_v their_o assemble_v together_o so_o to_o do_v no_o rule_n for_o we_o to_o perform_v that_o great_a religious_a duty_n it_o be_v easy_a to_o 〈◊〉_d ceremonial_a rite_n and_o place_n then_o use_v from_o moral_a and_o perpetual_a ordinance_n and_o to_o show_v how_o those_o external_a rite_n and_o shadow_n be_v go_v and_o yet_o that_o part_n which_o be_v moral_a remain_v forever_o the_o same_o hold_v good_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o jewish_a day_n of_o worship_n as_o well_o as_o to_o their_o place_n of_o worship_n and_o music_n in_o their_o worship_n for_o there_o be_v no_o more_o natural_a or_o
judgement_n for_o it_o it_o be_v you_o contend_v against_o that_o which_o all_o christian_n say_v they_o do_v own_o and_o perform_v but_o to_o proceed_v there_o may_v be_v it_o be_v plain_a a_o extraordinary_a spirit_n of_o prayer_n at_o some_o time_n and_o a_o extraordinary_a influence_n in_o preach_v and_o a_o extraordinary_a occasion_n to_o perform_v those_o duty_n likewise_o and_o so_o in_o singiug_n but_o must_v not_o we_o therefore_o be_v find_v in_o the_o performance_n of_o each_o of_o these_o duty_n at_o any_o other_o time_n and_o have_v not_o all_o true_a christian_n always_o in_o themselves_o the_o chief_a cause_n or_o ground_n of_o sing_v forth_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n that_o can_v be_v viz._n the_o consideration_n of_o redeem_v and_o regenerate_v grace_n though_o sometime_o to_o such_o degree_n they_o do_v not_o find_v that_o liveliness_n in_o their_o spirit_n to_o do_v it_o moreover_o we_o ought_v to_o strive_v to_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n that_o we_o may_v both_o pray_v prithee_o and_o hear_v also_o but_o sometime_o we_o have_v not_o those_o filling_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o such_o a_o measure_n as_o at_o other_o time_n yet_o must_v pray_v prithee_o hear_v and_o sing_v also_o for_o the_o argument_n or_o motive_n of_o sing_v as_o of_o our_o other_o duty_n do_v not_o lie_v in_o our_o be_v so_o exact_o qualify_v to_o do_v it_o or_o in_o our_o extraordinary_a fitness_n for_o the_o duty_n but_o in_o the_o requirement_n of_o god_n it_o be_v his_o ordinance_n and_o may_v be_v our_o sin_n if_o we_o be_v not_o so_o fit_a to_o praise_n god_n as_o we_o shall_v be_v nor_o be_v no_o more_o fit_a to_o pray_v and_o hear_v the_o word_n preach_v object_n but_o some_o may_v object_v do_v not_o james_n only_o enjoin_v sing_v of_o psalm_n when_o people_n be_v merry_a or_o find_v great_a cause_n of_o inward_a joy_n in_o the_o lord_n answ_n no_o by_o no_o mean_n this_o must_v not_o be_v grant_v for_o if_o so_o then_o people_n must_v never_o pray_v but_o when_o they_o be_v afflict_v do_v but_o read_v the_o text_n be_v any_o among_o you_o afflict_v let_v he_o pray_v be_v any_o merry_a let_v he_o sing_v psalm_n jam._n 5._o 13._o sure_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o lord_n people_n to_o pray_v as_o well_o when_o they_o be_v not_o afflict_v but_o be_v in_o health_n and_o in_o prospirity_n it_o be_v always_o on_o fit_a and_o proper_a occasion_n to_o be_v do_v but_o when_o afflict_v more_o especial_o then_o in_o a_o more_o than_o ordinary_a manner_n to_o be_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o prayer_n so_o and_o in_o the_o like_a manner_n it_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o rejoice_v and_o sing_v the_o praise_n of_o god_n always_o on_o all_o proper_a occasion_n but_o when_o any_o be_v more_o than_o ordinary_o lift_v up_o with_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n or_o fill_v with_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n which_o be_v intend_v doubtless_o in_o that_o phrase_n be_v any_o merry_n then_o they_o shall_v in_o a_o especial_a manner_n sing_v psalm_n or_o hymn_n of_o praise_n to_o god_n also_o from_o hence_o we_o may_v argue_v that_o as_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o one_o afflict_a person_n thus_o by_o himself_o to_o pray_v so_o when_o the_o whole_a church_n be_v afflict_v they_o in_o a_o especial_a manner_n shall_v keep_v day_n of_o prayer_n together_o and_o so_o they_o oftentimes_o do_v on_o such_o a_o account_n yet_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o church_n to_o pray_v at_o other_o time_n notwithstanding_o why_o so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o case_n of_o sing_v when_o the_o whole_a church_n of_o god_n have_v receive_v some_o signal_n mercy_n in_o a_o especial_a manner_n they_o ought_v together_o to_o give_v thanks_o to_o god_n and_o sing_v his_o praise_n but_o yet_o notwithstanding_o they_o ought_v to_o sing_v the_o praise_n of_o god_n at_o other_o time_n as_o well_o as_o pray_v at_o other_o time_n and_o nothing_o be_v in_o the_o least_o hint_v here_o in_o this_o place_n by_o the_o apostle_n james_n to_o the_o contrary_n object_n but_o we_o have_v no_o command_n to_o sing_v in_o our_o public_a assembly_n either_o before_o or_o after_o sermon_n nor_o any_o precedent_n that_o any_o gospel-church_n do_v so_o answ_n you_o must_v take_v heed_n and_o avoid_v needless_a question_n and_o contention_n we_o have_v no_o command_n to_o pray_v in_o our_o public_a assembly_n either_o before_o or_o after_o sermon_n nor_o no_o precedent_n that_o any_o gospel-church_n do_v so_o must_v we_o not_o use_v that_o practice_n therefore_o i_o be_o sure_a this_o argument_n be_v as_o strong_a against_o the_o one_o as_o it_o be_v against_o the_o other_o obj._n but_o we_o be_v command_v to_o pray_v always_o and_o that_o be_v a_o very_a convenient_a time_n when_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v preach_v every_o thing_n be_v sanctify_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o prayer_n answ_n so_o we_o be_v command_v to_o rejoice_v evermore_o 1_o thess_n 5._o 16._o and_o in_o every_o thing_n to_o give_v thanks_o to_o god_n phil._n 4._o 4_o 6._o and_o to_o sing_v his_o praise_n be_v the_o high_a way_n or_o manner_n of_o rejoce_n and_o give_v thanks_o to_o god_n we_o be_v capable_a of_o attain_v to_o as_o it_o appear_v in_o all_o the_o scripture_n and_o also_o by_o the_o example_n of_o the_o holy_a angel_n who_o this_o way_n rejoice_v and_o give_v thanks_o to_o god_n beside_o the_o preacher_n may_v pray_v before_o he_o come_v out_o of_o his_o closet_n or_o secret_o in_o his_o heart_n when_o in_o the_o pulpit_n and_o answer_v those_o general_a precept_n so_o that_o you_o may_v see_v what_o such_o kind_n of_o cavil_n will_v bring_v we_o to_o it_o be_v evident_a we_o read_v of_o several_a sermon_n the_o apostle_n peter_n preach_v and_o paul_n too_o and_o some_o of_o they_o in_o church-assembly_n but_o no_o more_o mention_n be_v make_v of_o pray_v before_o or_o after_o their_o sermon_n than_o be_v of_o their_o sing_v and_o be_v it_o not_o as_o convenient_a a_o time_n when_o we_o hear_v the_o excellency_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o the_o infinite_a love_n of_o god_n and_o the_o happiness_n of_o believer_n open_v then_o to_o sing_v and_o praise_n god_n as_o it_o be_v a_o proper_a season_n to_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o a_o blessing_n upon_o the_o word_n there_o be_v the_o like_a parity_n of_o reason_n for_o the_o one_o as_o there_o be_v for_o the_o other_o if_o any_o have_v the_o
