brief_a comprehensive_a sentence_n of_o the_o lord_n prayer_n and_o of_o our_o collect_v etc._n etc._n the_o memory_n thereof_o when_o we_o come_v to_o repeat_v they_o will_v much_o assist_v our_o devotion_n and_o i_o be_o persuade_v that_o if_o man_n be_v but_o conversant_a in_o the_o study_n of_o the_o common_a prayer-book_n they_o will_v find_v more_o instruction_n in_o the_o matter_n of_o their_o duty_n to_o god_n and_o man_n more_o assistance_n in_o govern_v their_o affection_n and_o passion_n and_o preserve_a peace_n in_o themselves_o more_o support_n and_o consolation_n in_o trouble_n and_o affliction_n and_o more_o aid_n against_o temptation_n etc._n etc._n than_o in_o read_v many_o book_n but_o especial_o it_o will_v be_v a_o excellent_a mean_n to_o increase_v those_o holy_a affection_n which_o prepare_v we_o for_o public_a prayer_n and_o to_o assist_v our_o devotion_n in_o the_o performance_n i_o have_v mention_v this_o little_a of_o a_o great_a deal_n that_o may_v be_v say_v of_o the_o matter_n of_o our_o meditation_n but_o still_o it_o must_v be_v remember_v that_o these_o thing_n be_v think_v on_o with_o a_o purpose_n and_o intention_n to_o beget_v in_o we_o such_o habitual_a affection_n and_o disposition_n that_o we_o may_v be_v always_o fit_a to_o pray_v and_o may_v in_o the_o most_o wont_a expression_n exercise_v a_o servant_n devotion_n and_o opinion_n there_o be_v but_o one_o of_o these_o two_o way_n for_o the_o doctor_n to_o avoid_v this_o consequence_n from_o his_o word_n either_o that_o he_o confess_v the_o truth_n and_o say_v that_o our_o saviour_n intend_v to_o teach_v his_o disciple_n a_o form_n of_o pray_v and_o that_o it_o be_v not_o only_o lawful_a but_o a_o positive_a duty_n to_o use_v this_o his_o holy_a prayer_n as_o we_o reformer_n as_o well_o as_o the_o governor_n of_o other_o church_n to_o compose_v and_o prescribe_v a_o liturgy_n or_o form_n for_o the_o public_a service_n of_o god_n a_o work_n whereby_o he_o excite_v man_n to_o approach_v daily_o to_o god_n in_o this_o solemn_a office_n of_o prayer_n in_o the_o church_n and_o not_o to_o think_v it_o enough_o to_o pray_v occasional_o when_o they_o be_v before_o the_o most_o devout_a action_n of_o the_o body_n especial_o where_o they_o can_v be_v both_o in_o perfection_n but_o our_o exactness_n in_o one_o must_v necessitate_v some_o relaxation_n in_o the_o other_o but_o there_o be_v a_o uneasiness_n that_o be_v so_o small_a that_o it_o rather_o help_v than_o hinder_v inward_a devotion_n and_o disturb_v nothing_o but_o a_o lazy_a humour_n or_o ill_a habit_n thing_n no_o way_n to_o be_v indulge_v but_o yet_o where_o there_o be_v such_o real_a infirmity_n as_o just_o excuse_v from_o stand_v or_o kneel_v upright_o etc._n etc._n man_n shall_v be_v careful_a that_o in_o what_o posture_n soever_o they_o be_v they_o make_v such_o expression_n of_o seriousness_n and_o devotion_n that_o it_o may_v appear_v to_o the_o congregation_n that_o they_o omit_v nothing_o out_o of_o laziness_n contempt_n of_o the_o order_n of_o the_o church_n or_o a_o profane_a spirit_n i_o have_v now_o run_v over_o the_o daily_a office_n of_o morning_n prayer_n and_o shall_v proceed_v no_o far_o because_o he_o that_o will_v observe_v what_o i_o have_v write_v in_o that_o can_v be_v to_o seek_v in_o order_v himself_o a_o right_n
