experimental_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n to_o know_v by_o experience_n in_o our_o own_o soul_n that_o he_o be_v such_o as_o by_o the_o word_n we_o believe_v he_o to_o be_v this_o be_v the_o most_o sweet_a and_o most_o comfortable_a knowledge_n even_o so_o sweet_a and_o so_o comfortable_a as_o pass_v all_o understanding_n if_o you_o have_v this_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n you_o be_v already_o enter_v in_o part_n into_o those_o joy_n which_o be_v reserve_v in_o heaven_n for_o you_o if_o you_o have_v it_o not_o o_o thirst_n after_o it_o and_o give_v your_o soul_n no_o rest_n till_o you_o come_v unto_o this_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n give_v all_o diligence_n unto_o the_o read_n and_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n of_o life_n &_o pray_v always_o with_o all_o manner_n of_o prayer_n and_o supplication_n in_o the_o spirit_n that_o you_o may_v know_v christ_n with_o a_o feel_a knowledge_n and_o with_o a_o sweet_a experience_n in_o your_o own_o soul_n that_o whatsoever_o you_o have_v and_o spring_v and_o that_o be_v from_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n for_o so_o we_o be_v to_o understand_v this_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v a_o vantage_n follow_v the_o renounce_n of_o our_o own_o righteousness_n and_o rejoice_v in_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n by_o faith_n as_o that_o this_o vantage_n spring_v from_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n hence_o than_o i_o observe_v that_o only_o they_o know_v christ_n by_o this_o experimental_a knowledge_n who_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n do_v by_o a_o true_a and_o lively_a faith_n haply_o the_o righteousness_n and_o obedience_n of_o christ_n jesus_n unto_o themselves_o for_o then_o do_v we_o begin_v to_o have_v this_o feel_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n in_o our_o own_o soul_n when_o by_o faith_n we_o lay_v hold_v on_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n jesus_n to_o be_v justify_v thereby_o and_o the_o more_o sure_a hold_n that_o we_o lie_v by_o the_o hand_n of_o faith_n on_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o christ_n the_o son_n of_o the_o live_a god_n we_o believe_v say_v he_o and_o know_v as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v we_o believe_v and_o in_o our_o own_o soul_n by_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n witness_v it_o to_o our_o spirit_n we_o know_v that_o thou_o be_v the_o christ_n the_o son_n of_o the_o live_a god_n faith_n then_o in_o christ_n jesus_n be_v the_o root_n whence_o this_o feel_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n come_v and_o the_o more_o steadfast_o we_o believe_v the_o great_a feeling_n of_o this_o knowledge_n do_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n work_n within_o our_o soul_n soul_n many_o of_o we_o that_o have_v hear_v and_o read_v of_o he_o know_v not_o that_o he_o be_v make_v of_o god_n unto_o we_o wisdom_n or_o righteousness_n sanctification_n or_o redemption_n many_o of_o we_o know_v not_o what_o treasure_n of_o wisdom_n or_o knowledge_n or_o salvation_n be_v lay_v up_o in_o he_o for_o we_o many_o of_o we_o i_o fear_v i_o feel_v not_o in_o ourselves_o the_o sweetness_n of_o christ_n the_o fruit_n of_o his_o suffering_n the_o comfort_n of_o his_o promise_n the_o riches_n of_o his_o mercy_n many_o of_o we_o i_o fear_v i_o only_o know_v christ_n as_o we_o hear_v of_o christ_n and_o read_v of_o christ_n but_o know_v he_o not_o by_o his_o comfortable_a presence_n in_o our_o own_o soul_n and_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o this_o sure_o we_o have_v no_o root_n in_o ourselves_o we_o want_v that_o true_a and_o lively_a faith_n whence_o such_o knowledge_n shall_v spring_v we_o deceive_v ourselves_o flatter_v ourselves_o and_o say_v we_o believe_v in_o christ_n we_o know_v christ_n when_o as_o we_o neither_o believe_v in_o he_o nor_o know_v he_o a_o smattering_n faith_n and_o a_o smattering_n knowledge_n of_o christ_n we_o have_v but_o a_o justify_n faith_n or_o save_v knowledge_n we_o have_v none_o be_v then_o a_o justify_n faith_n the_o root_n whence_o a_o feeling_n and_o save_v knowledge_n do_v spring_n let_v this_o then_o teach_v we_o to_o use_v with_o all_o religious_a reverence_n those_o mean_n which_o the_o lord_n have_v ordain_v for_o the_o beget_n and_o increase_v of_o faith_n in_o we_o that_o we_o may_v believe_v and_o and_o the_o latter_a rain_n upon_o they_o but_o in_o time_n of_o persecution_n trouble_n and_o adversity_n they_o hang_v down_o their_o head_n and_o murmur_v against_o the_o lord_n it_o seem_v that_o satan_n think_v that_o job_n will_v have_v be_v such_o a_o one_o as_o appear_v by_o these_o word_n where_o he_o say_v unto_o god_n 1.10_o job_n 1.10_o do_v he_o fear_v god_n for_o nought_o and_o the_o same_o may_v be_v say_v of_o rejoice_v have_v thou_o not_o make_v a_o hedge_n about_o he_o and_o about_o his_o house_n and_o about_o all_o that_o he_o have_v on_o every_o side_n thou_o have_v bless_v charitable_a in_o their_o judgement_n towards_o their_o brethren_n speak_v good_a of_o that_o which_o plain_o be_v evil_a and_o interpret_v that_o unto_o the_o best_a which_o in_o plain_a evidence_n or_o of_o man_n be_o i_o uncharitable_a if_o i_o interpret_v not_o his_o action_n unto_o the_o best_a nay_o rather_o he_o misdeem_v of_o charity_n that_o so_o think_v and_o this_o will_v common_o if_o it_o be_v mark_v fall_v out_o to_o be_v true_a that_o he_o that_o so_o urge_v a_o charitable_a judgement_n touch_v such_o thing_n and_o such_o man_n as_o offend_v these_o and_o the_o like_a way_n will_v be_v most_o uncharitable_a in_o his_o judgement_n touch_v the_o best_a man_n and_o the_o best_a thing_n as_o therefore_o we_o be_v not_o too_o sharp_o to_o censure_v the_o fall_v of_o our_o brethren_n lest_o we_o offend_v against_o the_o rule_n of_o charity_n so_o let_v we_o take_v heed_n lest_o upon_o a_o foolish_a conceit_n of_o charity_n we_o think_v well_o of_o that_o which_o good_a by_o suggest_v good_a cogitation_n into_o we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n which_o dwell_v in_o us._n we_o will_v and_o desire_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o it_o be_v he_o that_o make_v we_o will_n and_o desire_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a by_o work_v good_a motion_n and_o holy_a desire_n in_o we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n which_o he_o have_v give_v us._n we_o fly_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_a and_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o it_o be_v he_o that_o make_v we_o fly_v that_o which_o be_v evil_a and_o do_v that_o be_v good_a by_o minister_a strength_n unto_o we_o through_o the_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o us._n we_o know_v how_o to_o be_v abase_v and_o how_o to_o abound_v how_o to_o be_v full_a and_o how_o to_o be_v hungry_a etc._n etc._n but_o it_o be_v god_n that_o enable_v we_o hereunto_o by_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n which_o he_o have_v give_v us._n without_o he_o we_o can_v do_v nothing_o as_o himself_o tell_v we_o 15.5_o joh._n 15.5_o not_o think_v any_o part_n of_o a_o good_a thought_n not_o will_v any_o part_n of_o a_o good_a desire_n not_o do_v any_o part_n of_o a_o good_a deed_n so_o whole_o be_v every_o good_a gift_n from_o he_o but_o by_o he_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n that_o our_o duty_n require_v of_o we_o though_o not_o in_o that_o degree_n of_o perfection_n which_o apostle_n say_v so_o and_o shall_v not_o he_o then_o have_v the_o glory_n of_o all_o have_v thou_o any_o good_a thing_n that_o thou_o have_v not_o receive_v of_o the_o lord_n the_o apostle_n think_v or_o do_v well_o nay_o rather_o than_o fail_v we_o will_v break_v out_o into_o our_o own_o praise_n and_o worse_o than_o that_o we_o will_v either_o shut_v he_o out_o of_o all_o unto_o who_o all_o praise_n be_v due_a or_o else_o enter_v upon_o a_o part_n with_o he_o so_o far_o in_o love_n be_v we_o with_o ourselves_o that_o we_o forget_v christ_n though_o without_o christ_n there_o be_v nothing_o to_o be_v love_v in_o us._n but_o let_v we_o learn_v to_o know_v what_o we_o be_v in_o ourselves_o and_o let_v we_o be_v confound_v in_o ourselves_o and_o for_o whatsoever_o we_o say_v or_o his_o praise_n be_v ever_o in_o our_o mouth_n for_o such_o mercy_n as_o we_o have_v of_o he_o and_o let_v we_o pray_v always_o with_o all_o manner_n prayer_n and_o supplication_n in_o the_o spirit_n for_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o spirit_n notwithstanding_o etc._n etc._n in_o these_o word_n the_o apostle_n according_a to_o that_o wisdom_n that_o be_v give_v unto_o he_o most_o wise_o commend_v the_o philippian_n for_o their_o liberality_n send_v unto_o he_o for_o the_o apostle_n have_v before_o most_o peremptory_o signify_v his_o constancy_n both_o in_o adversity_n and_o prosperity_n that_o first_o thing_n which_o i_o note_n be_v in_o the_o main_a proposition_n in_o that_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o he_o know_v that_o this_o cast_n of_o he_o into_o prison_n and_o this_o practise_v against_o he_o be_v in_o prison_n shall_v turn_v to_o his_o salvation_n not_o only_o of_o his_o body_n by_o deliverance_n out_o of_o prison_n but_o of_o his_o soul_n because_o of_o his_o constancy_n in_o the_o defence_n of_o the_o gospel_n whence_o i_o observe_v what_o fruit_n the_o godly_a may_v assure_v themselves_o shall_v follow_v upon_o their_o suffering_n and_o wrong_n even_o their_o salvation_n in_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n jesus_n for_o though_o the_o apostle_n may_v know_v this_o some_o other_o way_n then_o now_o the_o godly_a can_v even_o by_o the_o revelation_n of_o the_o spirit_n as_o no_o doubt_n he_o do_v know_v of_o his_o deliverance_n out_o of_o prison_n yet_o may_v the_o godly_a thus_o far_o go_v with_o the_o apostle_n and_o say_v i_o know_v that_o my_o as_o it_o be_v good_a especial_o in_o this_o our_o day_n wherein_o there_o be_v such_o neglect_n both_o of_o public_a and_o private_a prayer_n unto_o the_o lord_n private_a prayer_n so_o rare_a that_o if_o it_o be_v use_v by_o any_o it_o be_v note_v by_o many_o and_o they_o straight_a way_n censure_v as_o think_v themselves_o more_o holy_a than_o other_o man_n and_o public_a prayer_n so_o little_o regard_v by_o some_o that_o very_o seldom_o they_o be_v present_a with_o the_o congregation_n in_o public_a prayer_n i_o can_v stand_v of_o it_o only_o i_o say_v he_o that_o neglect_v the_o mean_n unto_o grace_n he_o shall_v never_o find_v grace_n second_o hence_o i_o observe_v a_o duty_n of_o the_o church_n in_o public_a prayer_n which_o be_v to_o pray_v for_o the_o afflict_a member_n of_o reject_v seldom_n but_o we_o be_v trouble_v with_o wander_a by-thought_n often_o we_o pray_v for_o thing_n and_o against_o thing_n without_o submit_v of_o our_o will_n unto_o the_o lord_n will_v often_o we_o pray_v not_o in_o faith_n towards_o god_n often_o not_o in_o love_n towards_o our_o brethren_n often_o cold_o often_o hypocritical_o and_o when_o not_o so_o but_o that_o our_o prayer_n may_v just_o be_v turn_v into_o sin_n unto_o we_o cause_n therefore_o they_o be_v not_o for_o which_o the_o lord_n bestow_v any_o grace_n upon_o we_o but_o mean_v only_o through_o which_o we_o receive_v grace_n needful_a for_o we_o for_o the_o promise_n sake_n make_v in_o christ_n jesus_n far_o be_v it_o therefore_o from_o we_o to_o stand_v upon_o the_o merit_n of_o our_o prayer_n as_o if_o for_o our_o prayer_n sake_n we_o deserve_v any_o grace_n to_o be_v bestow_v upon_o us._n let_v we_o as_o we_o ought_v pour_v out_o fervent_a prayer_n unto_o the_o lord_n in_o faith_n and_o in_o christ_n his_o name_n and_o assure_v we_o ourselves_o we_o shall_v be_v hear_v but_o withal_o let_v we_o know_v that_o it_o be_v for_o his_o promise_n sake_n make_v unto_o our_o prayer_n and_o for_o they_o with_o gladness_n each_o circumstance_n more_o than_o other_o import_v his_o most_o careful_a remembrance_n of_o they_o in_o his_o prayer_n unto_o god_n that_o they_o may_v continue_v in_o knowledge_n the_o apostle_n speak_v when_o he_o say_v that_o knowledge_n puff_v up_o for_o as_o they_o regard_v nothing_o in_o seek_v after_o knowledge_n but_o a_o vain_a ostentation_n 8.1_o 1_o therefore_o will_v they_o and_o in_o they_o we_o neither_o wilful_o to_o reject_v every_o thing_n because_o of_o some_o wicked_a man_n nor_o yet_o foolish_o to_o admit_v every_o thing_n that_o be_v god_n and_o likewise_o think_v they_o worship_v he_o with_o true_a worship_n but_o how_o a_o great_a many_o nation_n and_o language_n shall_v either_o know_v the_o true_a god_n or_o true_o worship_v he_o it_o can_v scarce_o be_v imagine_v see_v they_o want_v the_o holy_a word_n of_o life_n where_o alone_o we_o both_o clear_o know_v he_o and_o likewise_o how_o to_o worship_v he_o nay_o how_o shall_v not_o they_o most_o gross_o err_v touch_v the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n see_v where_o the_o word_n be_v there_o be_v so_o many_o error_n touch_v the_o true_a and_o spiritual_a worship_n of_o god_n witness_v those_o manifold_a will-worshippes_n of_o god_n which_o man_n have_v devise_v unto_o themselves_o and_o for_o which_o they_o have_v no_o warrant_n at_o all_o in_o the_o word_n such_o as_o be_v forbid_v of_o marriage_n and_o forbid_v of_o meat_n to_o some_o man_n at_o all_o time_n and_o to_o all_o man_n at_o sometime_o under_o pretence_n of_o holy_a religion_n and_o devout_a service_n of_o god_n but_o for_o our_o instruction_n in_o this_o point_n let_v we_o hence_o observe_v that_o not_o only_o in_o the_o spirit_n of_o our_o mind_n purify_v by_o the_o spirit_n to_o serve_v he_o in_o holiness_n and_o in_o righteousness_n but_o that_o if_o we_o will_v not_o err_v in_o the_o performance_n of_o true_a and_o spiritual_a worship_n unto_o our_o god_n we_o must_v proceed_v by_o this_o rule_n of_o rejoice_v in_o christ_n jesus_n inasmuch_o as_o by_o rejoice_v in_o christ_n jesus_n we_o worship_v god_n spiritual_o for_o what_o be_v there_o require_v in_o our_o spiritual_a worship_n of_o god_n which_o by_o our_o rejoice_v in_o christ_n jesus_n be_v not_o perform_v unto_o he_o be_v it_o not_o our_o spiritual_a worship_n of_o god_n to_o love_v he_o to_o put_v so_o to_o speak_v as_o that_o a_o man_n shall_v be_v little_a the_o better_a or_o the_o wise_a and_o these_o will_v not_o clear_a point_n as_o they_o go_v but_o belove_a what_o shall_v i_o speak_v to_o you_o of_o these_o thing_n you_o see_v what_o duty_n lie_v upon_o we_o by_o the_o example_n of_o the_o apostle_n even_o so_o to_o clear_a thing_n as_o we_o go_v as_o that_o you_o may_v not_o that_o he_o desire_v not_o a_o gift_n but_o the_o fruit_n which_o may_v further_o etc._n etc._n he_o show_v that_o as_o father_n in_o their_o tender_a affection_n towards_o their_o child_n desire_v not_o any_o thing_n of_o they_o but_o for_o their_o behoof_n and_o good_a so_o he_o in_o his_o tender_a love_n towards_o they_o desire_v not_o any_o gift_n of_o they_o but_o for_o their_o behoof_n and_o good_a in_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n jesus_n whence_o i_o observe_v what_o a_o fatherly_a affection_n there_o ought_v to_o be_v in_o the_o pastor_n towards_o his_o people_n namely_o such_o as_o that_o he_o seek_v not_o they_o but_o they_o not_o his_o own_o profit_n but_o the_o profit_n of_o his_o people_n that_o they_o may_v be_v save_v thus_o our_o apostle_n often_o profess_v that_o he_o do_v as_o where_o he_o say_v that_o he_o seek_v not_o his_o own_o profit_n 12.14_o 1_o cor._n 10.33_o 2_o cor._n 12.14_o but_o the_o profit_n of_o many_o that_o they_o may_v be_v save_v and_o again_o where_o he_o tell_v the_o same_o corinth_n that_o he_o seek_v not_o they_o but_o they_o wherein_o he_o have_v leave_v a_o precedent_n for_o we_o that_o as_o he_o have_v do_v so_o we_o shall_v do_v also_o what_o then_o be_v not_o the_o pastor_n to_o labour_v with_o his_o people_n in_o the_o word_n and_o doctrine_n for_o their_o salvation_n and_o to_o desire_v nothing_o of_o they_o to_o look_v for_o nothing_o at_o their_o hand_n no_o not_o so_o for_o we_o hear_v the_o last_o day_n that_o where_o spiritual_a thing_n be_v sow_v there_o carnal_a thing_n be_v to_o be_v reap_v and_o that_o he_o that_o teach_v may_v as_o well_o require_v they_o of_o they_o that_o be_v teach_v in_o the_o word_n as_o the_o soldier_n may_v do_v his_o pay_n or_o the_o labourer_n his_o wage_n or_o he_o that_o plant_v a_o vineyard_n of_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o vineyard_n or_o he_o that_o feed_v a_o flock_n of_o the_o milk_n of_o the_o flock_n but_o as_o at_o the_o first_o he_o be_v not_o to_o undertake_v this_o sacred_a and_o holy_a function_n in_o any_o covetous_a or_o ambitious_a desire_n for_o worldly_a maintenance_n or_o promotion_n but_o in_o a_o holy_a desire_n to_o gain_v man_n unto_o the_o faith_n and_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n jesus_n so_o at_o no_o time_n be_v he_o so_o much_o to_o respect_v the_o gift_n and_o maintenance_n that_o he_o have_v by_o his_o people_n as_o the_o salvation_n of_o his_o people_n in_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n jesus_n in_o a_o place_n therefore_o where_o his_o live_n be_v allot_v and_o his_o maintenance_n set_v the_o benefit_n of_o his_o live_n shall_v not_o so_o much_o rejoice_v he_o as_o to_o see_v his_o people_n offer_v their_o duty_n willing_o and_o give_v they_o cheerful_o for_o that_o this_o be_v a_o token_n of_o their_o growth_n in_o piety_n &_o a_o fruit_n which_o shall_v sure_o further_a their_o reckon_n and_o so_o likewise_o in_o a_o place_n where_o only_o a_o voluntary_a contribution_n be_v make_v for_o a_o time_n the_o allowance_n whatsoever_o it_o be_v be_v not_o so_o much_o to_o rejoice_v he_o as_o the_o evident_a token_n of_o their_o piety_n therein_o which_o make_v it_o which_o shall_v further_o their_o reckon_n and_o the_o care_n which_o in_o both_o place_n be_v by_o he_o to_o be_v take_v be_v not_o to_o be_v for_o his_o own_o profit_n but_o for_o
