inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n with_o drunkenness_n this_o chapter_n contain_v a_o prophecy_n of_o the_o captivity_n of_o god_n church_n in_o babylon_n which_o be_v set_v down_o to_o take_v the_o deep_a impression_n on_o their_o heart_n first_o under_o the_o type_n of_o a_o girdle_n which_o be_v take_v from_o the_o loin_n of_o the_o prophet_n and_o put_v into_o a_o hole_n of_o the_o rock_n shall_v now_o the_o lord_n have_v catch_v they_o and_o make_v they_o yield_v thus_o far_o he_o come_v in_o upon_o they_o with_o the_o second_o thing_n viz._n the_o explication_n of_o the_o similitude_n similitude_n prove_v nothing_o but_o when_o god_n apply_v they_o then_o there_o be_v proof_n enough_o brief_o a_o little_a to_o open_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o text._n by_o every_o bottle_n be_v mean_v all_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o land_n and_o more_o particular_o the_o king_n and_o the_o priest_n and_o the_o prophet_n by_o wine_n be_v mean_v that_o spirit_n of_o drunkenness_n wherewith_o the_o lord_n will_v fill_v they_o and_o by_o fill_v of_o the_o vessel_n be_v mean_v they_o shall_v be_v full_a of_o drunkenness_n and_o by_o bottle_n be_v mean_v their_o weak_a condition_n for_o they_o think_v themselves_o vessel_n of_o honour_n that_o can_v withstand_v the_o dint_n of_o any_o stroke_n but_o say_v the_o lord_n i_o will_v dash_v you_o one_o against_o another_o i_o will_v do_v it_o say_v the_o lord_n by_o fill_v they_o with_o a_o spirit_n of_o drunkenness_n and_o the_o manner_n how_o be_v by_o dash_v they_o one_o against_o another_o i_o will_v break_v all_o relation_n asunder_o and_o will_v not_o pity_v nor_o spare_v but_o destroy_v it_o will_v take_v much_o time_n to_o open_v all_o these_o particular_o we_o shall_v only_o speak_v concern_v one_o particular_a viz._n what_o be_v mean_v by_o a_o spirit_n of_o drunkenness_n sometime_o it_o be_v take_v for_o the_o drunkenness_n of_o man_n body_n sometime_o for_o the_o soul-calamity_n that_o man_n be_v under_o in_o such_o wise_a that_o they_o know_v not_o what_o to_o do_v lam._n 3.15_o he_o have_v make_v i_o drunken_a with_o wormwood_n that_o be_v with_o sore_a and_o bitter_a affliction_n sometime_o it_o be_v take_v for_o a_o spiritual_a judgement_n on_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n which_o be_v a_o sin_n and_o not_o so_o much_o a_o misery_n unless_o it_o be_v a_o spiritual_a misery_n when_o the_o lord_n do_v give_v man_n up_o unto_o a_o reprobate_a sense_n and_o so_o it_o be_v often_o take_v in_o scripture_n isa_n 29.9_o 10._o they_o be_v drunken_a but_o not_o with_o wine_n nor_o strong_a drink_n for_o the_o lord_n have_v pour_v out_o upon_o they_o a_o spirit_n of_o deep_a sleep_n the_o calamity_n of_o the_o people_n here_o be_v express_v in_o those_o word_n in_o be_v dash_v one_o against_o another_o but_o now_o drunkenness_n it_o go_v before_o as_o that_o which_o prepare_v for_o this_o misery_n say_v the_o lord_n i_o will_v fill_v all_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o land_n with_o a_o spirit_n of_o drunkenness_n until_o i_o have_v destroy_v they_o every_o one_o from_o hence_o observe_v doct._n that_o spiritual_a drunkenness_n it_o be_v a_o certain_a forerunner_n of_o destruction_n merciless_a unto_o a_o people_n i_o will_v show_v they_o no_o pity_n nor_o spare_v they_o but_o destroy_v they_o say_v the_o lord_n that_o look_v as_o it_o be_v with_o belshazzar_n he_o have_v be_v drink_v overnight_o and_o the_o same_o night_n the_o hand-writing_n of_o the_o lord_n come_v out_o against_o against_o nahum_n 1.10_o while_o they_o be_v drunken_a as_o drunkard_n they_o shall_v be_v devour_v as_o stubble_n for_o the_o explication_n of_o the_o point_n i_o shall_v show_v you_o 1._o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o spiritual_a drunkenness_n 2._o by_o what_o effect_n it_o do_v manifest_v itself_o 3._o when_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o destruction_n 4._o i_o shall_v give_v you_o the_o reason_n why_o it_o be_v so_o first_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o spiritual_a drunkenness_n look_v as_o it_o be_v with_o bodily_a drunkenness_n it_o arise_v from_o inordinate_a drink_n of_o wine_n or_o strong_a drink_n so_o this_o drunkenness_n it_o arise_v from_o drink_v in_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n thereof_o which_o be_v principal_o these_o two_o 1._o when_o the_o will_n and_o affection_n of_o man_n do_v inordinate_o drink_v in_o the_o pleasure_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o those_o thing_n that_o their_o heart_n shall_v be_v wean_v from_o and_o that_o shall_v in_o comparison_n of_o better_a thing_n be_v bitter_a to_o they_o when_o
