spirit_n how_o great_a then_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o these_o man_n sin_n spiritual_a sin_n be_v great_a than_o fleshly_a sin_n who_o conceive_v in_o their_o mind_n and_o bring_v forth_o the_o birth_n the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n have_v be_v often_o offer_v and_o tender_v to_o they_o yet_o they_o will_v not_o hear_v nor_o regard_n but_o rather_o believe_v lie_n than_o the_o truth_n than_o often_o in_o many_o thing_n speak_v the_o very_a truth_n but_o it_o be_v with_o a_o intent_n to_o deceive_v in_o other_o thing_n that_o be_v of_o great_a moment_n and_o consequence_n like_o cunning_a deceitful_a tradesman_n who_o bring_v forth_o and_o show_v some_o good_a and_o right_a commodity_n that_o so_o among_o these_o they_o may_v put_v off_o their_o counterfeit_a ware_n the_o better_a and_o with_o less_o suspicion_n now_o scripture_n the_o spirit_n within_o know_v by_o the_o scripture_n know_v this_o that_o man_n shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o know_v the_o false_a seduce_a spirit_n from_o the_o true_a but_o by_o the_o fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o it_o and_o by_o try_v it_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n speak_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o by_o these_o it_o may_v be_v know_v and_o not_o otherwise_o and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o many_o in_o our_o day_n find_v and_o feel_v strong_a impression_n and_o impulse_n in_o their_o mind_n and_o not_o examine_v of_o they_o and_o ofttimes_o it_o be_v a_o seduce_a spirit_n quest_n but_o if_o it_o be_v ask_v how_o then_o shall_v we_o certain_o know_v the_o impression_n of_o the_o seduce_a spirit_n in_o our_o mind_n and_o the_o impression_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n answ_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n which_o be_v give_v to_o they_o that_o believe_v instruct_v they_o how_o to_o know_v its_o own_o operation_n first_o by_o compare_v these_o immediate_a impression_n in_o the_o mind_n with_o what_o be_v already_o write_v in_o the_o scripture_n dictate_v by_o the_o same_o spirit_n concern_v the_o same_o thing_n now_o in_o the_o mind_n or_o judgement_n therefore_o we_o ought_v to_o compare_v they_o together_o and_o examine_v whether_o they_o agree_v and_o be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o if_o the_o impression_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o mind_n be_v contrary_a to_o the_o spirit_n speak_v in_o the_o scripture_n we_o may_v then_o be_v sure_a it_o be_v a_o false_a and_o a_o seduce_a spirit_n but_o if_o it_o be_v the_o same_o with_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o scripture_n and_o confirm_v thereby_o than_o it_o be_v the_o true_a spirit_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n give_v more_o especial_o to_o some_o of_o his_o people_n the_o gift_n of_o discern_v of_o spirit_n as_o we_o see_v 2_o cor._n 12._o to_o another_o he_o give_v the_o discern_v of_o spirit_n and_o it_o be_v by_o this_o mean_v aforementioned_a and_o second_o effect_n cause_n know_v by_o effect_n we_o may_v know_v the_o true_a spirit_n from_o the_o seduce_a spirit_n by_o the_o fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o it_o we_o may_v know_v cause_n by_o the_o effect_n divide_v the_o member_n of_o christ_n body_n upon_o one_o pretence_n or_o another_o and_o herein_o it_o be_v too_o manifest_a that_o not_o only_o some_o in_o our_o day_n be_v more_o gross_o guilty_a but_o also_o many_o of_o the_o true_a member_n of_o christ_n have_v be_v deceive_v and_o carry_v away_o very_o far_o by_o this_o delude_a and_o seduce_a spirit_n through_o the_o remainder_n of_o pride_n and_o self-love_n in_o they_o and_o have_v think_v it_o their_o duty_n to_o separate_v from_o other_o of_o their_o brethren_n upon_o slight_a weak_a and_o insufficient_a ground_n and_o cause_n the_o truth_n they_o shall_v believe_v lie_n what_o difference_n shall_v we_o think_v be_v there_o between_o these_o man_n jew_n the_o quaker_n sin_n be_v like_o the_o great_a sin_n of_o the_o harden_a jew_n the_o teacher_n among_o the_o quaker_n who_o have_v deliver_v these_o damnable_a doctrine_n aforementioned_a be_v the_o doctrine_n of_o devil_n and_o still_o maintain_v they_o what_o difference_n i_o say_v between_o they_o and_o those_o jew_n who_o blaspeme_v the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o run_v into_o that_o sin_n unto_o death_n those_o jew_n reject_v christ_n his_o say_n and_o like_a unto_o the_o sin_n of_o those_o jew_n that_o i_o think_v it_o be_v hard_a for_o any_o man_n to_o distinguish_v they_o otherwise_o than_o by_o say_v that_o the_o sin_n of_o these_o teacher_n do_v exceed_v the_o sin_n of_o those_o jew_n the_o sin_n of_o these_o man_n seem_v to_o be_v much_o aggravate_v in_o that_o they_o have_v not_o only_o hear_v all_o those_o say_n and_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n which_o he_o preach_v among_o the_o jew_n but_o they_o have_v have_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n offered_n and_o tender_v to_o they_o by_o other_o also_o the_o apostle_n evangelist_n and_o disciple_n of_o christ_n have_v speak_v to_o they_o in_o the_o scripture_n which_o those_o jew_n never_o have_v and_o also_o many_o of_o the_o minister_n messenger_n and_o ambassador_n of_o christ_n have_v speak_v to_o they_o and_o tender_v the_o very_a truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o they_o yea_o many_o other_o of_o his_o faithful_a saint_n and_o servant_n have_v from_o time_n to_o time_n speak_v to_o they_o and_o advise_v counsel_v and_o admonish_v they_o and_o yet_o all_o in_o vain_a they_o have_v reject_v all_o and_o despise_v all_o and_o have_v as_o swine_n trample_v pearl_n under_o their_o foot_n and_o turn_v again_o and_o rend_v those_o that_o bring_v they_o they_o have_v revile_v they_o and_o reproach_v they_o for_o so_o do_v so_o that_o to_o what_o purpose_n shall_v any_o man_n go_v about_o to_o teach_v these_o teacher_n who_o be_v not_o capable_a to_o learn_v as_o be_v blind_v and_o harden_a and_o seal_v up_o as_o be_v feaâ—ed_v even_o to_o destruction_n have_v their_o conscience_n sear_v with_o a_o hot_a iron_n man_n of_o corrupt_a mind_n reprobate_a to_o every_o good_a work_n without_o judgement_n unfit_a either_o to_o teach_v or_o learn_v for_o we_o know_v there_o have_v be_v many_o such_o in_o former_a day_n who_o be_v guilty_a of_o this_o great_a sin_n some_o such_o be_v contemporary_n with_o the_o prophet_n isaiah_n chap._n 6.10_o make_v the_o heart_n of_o this_o people_n fat_a and_o make_v their_o ear_n heavy_a and_o shut_v their_o eye_n &c_n &c_n so_o also_o many_o such_o be_v in_o the_o time_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n mat._n christ_n reveal_v in_o the_o scripture_n these_o people_n the_o quaker_n fall_v the_o quaker_n great_a idol_n near_o fall_v have_v forsake_v the_o fountain_n of_o live_v water_n and_o have_v run_v to_o break_a cistern_n and_o see_v they_o have_v forsake_v the_o live_n and_o true_a god_n the_o glory_n of_o his_o people_n and_o set_v up_o a_o idol_n a_o false_a christ_n the_o light_n in_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n i_o shall_v therefore_o bring_v against_o this_o their_o false_a doctrine_n several_a argument_n from_o scripture_n to_o prove_v the_o vanity_n and_o falsehood_n of_o it_o as_o so_o many_o piece_n of_o ordnance_n plant_v against_o this_o great_a idol_n which_o the_o quaker_n have_v set_v up_o and_o worship_n that_o so_o it_o may_v fall_v as_o dagon_n before_o the_o ark_n of_o the_o lord_n whereas_o they_o say_v that_o christ_n the_o true_a light_n be_v in_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n this_o be_v not_o a_o truth_n because_o in_o whosoever_o christ_n be_v and_o dwell_v he_o do_v enlighten_v that_o soul_n with_o true_a light_n save_v light_n supernatural_a light_n even_o by_o himself_o by_o his_o spirit_n and_o by_o the_o scripture_n it_o be_v true_a all_o wicked_a man_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n have_v light_n of_o christ_n make_n he_o create_v they_o which_o enlighten_v all_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n which_o god_n have_v also_o give_v to_o they_o that_o believe_v and_o far_o this_o truth_n be_v also_o speak_v by_o our_o bless_a lord_n and_o savionr_n christ_n lust_n and_o error_n such_o kind_n of_o weak_a and_o simple_a mind_n be_v easy_o deceive_v they_o know_v not_o how_o to_o distinguish_v between_o truth_n and_o error_n they_o be_v still_o hear_v and_o learn_v but_o be_v never_o able_a to_o come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o truth_n at_o least_o they_o be_v never_o able_a to_o come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o some_o truth_n for_o some_o truth_n lie_n more_o deep_a than_o other_o some_o be_v more_o easy_a to_o be_v apprehend_v than_o some_o other_o some_o truth_n be_v hard_a to_o be_v understand_v as_o the_o the_o apostle_n observe_v which_o they_o that_o be_v unstable_a pervert_n yea_o and_o they_o that_o be_v but_o weak_a and_o shallow_a of_o understanding_n do_v also_o pervert_v mistake_v misapprehend_v and_o misapply_v as_o for_o instance_n in_o this_o very_a thing_n this_o principle_n and_o opinion_n of_o the_o quaker_n concern_v the_o light_n within_o we_o know_v how_o they_o apprehend_v it_o their_o teacher_n and_o their_o hearer_n they_o call_v it_o christ_n who_o light_v every_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n this_o notion_n border_n upon_o a_o truth_n and_o have_v some_o small_a shaddowy_a resemblance_n of_o a_o truth_n but_o be_v not_o a_o truth_n as_o these_o weak_a people_n apprehend_v it_o for_o there_o be_v a_o light_n within_o which_o see_v and_o work_n and_o move_v several_a way_n towards_o that_o which_o appear_v good_a according_a as_o it_o apprehend_v it_o and_o against_o what_o it_o think_v to_o be_v evil_a now_o this_o herein_o have_v some_o resemblance_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o spirit_n and_o so_o weak_a mind_n silly_a man_n and_o woman_n may_v think_v it_o to_o be_v so_o indeed_o especial_o when_o they_o hear_v it_o positive_o and_o plain_o assert_v affirm_v and_o contend_v for_o by_o man_n who_o have_v gain_v their_o affection_n by_o their_o demure_a countenance_n modest_a behaviour_n and_o apparel_n and_o many_o good_a word_n and_o fair_a speech_n with_o seem_a zeal_n they_o be_v thereby_o confirm_v in_o this_o persuasion_n that_o sure_o it_o be_v christ_n indeed_o but_o this_o persuasion_n come_v not_o of_o he_o that_o call_v we_o gal._n 5.8_o as_o the_o apostle_n here_o say_v but_o arise_v from_o weakness_n and_o ignorance_n from_o the_o darkness_n of_o the_o understanding_n help_v on_o and_o strengthen_v by_o that_o speak_v of_o the_o worst_a of_o man_n who_o have_v this_o light_n in_o they_o and_o therefore_o be_v inexcusable_a in_o go_v against_o it_o this_o light_n within_o though_o it_o be_v not_o christ_n yet_o it_o be_v create_v by_o christ_n as_o all_o thing_n else_o be_v but_o it_o can_v go_v beyond_o its_o bound_n no_o more_o than_o natural_a water_n can_v of_o itself_o rise_v high_o than_o the_o spring_n head_n the_o light_n within_o can_v see_v christ_n nor_o the_o way_n and_o mean_n of_o salvation_n by_o he_o without_o the_o light_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n but_o the_o quaker_n be_v strong_o confirm_v that_o the_o light_n within_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n be_v christ_n let_v all_o man_n say_v what_o they_o will_v to_o the_o contrary_a yet_o most_o certain_a it_o be_v that_o this_o opinion_n of_o they_o be_v beget_v by_o ignorance_n and_o be_v nourish_v and_o maintain_v by_o pride_n for_o they_o have_v assert_v it_o and_o so_o long_o now_o consider_v be_v it_o not_o a_o strange_a and_o monstrous_a thing_n in_o nature_n for_o some_o of_o the_o member_n of_o the_o natural_a body_n to_o combine_v together_o against_o all_o the_o rest_n to_o neglect_v or_o disow_v the_o rest_n of_o the_o member_n nay_o the_o member_n of_o the_o natural_a body_n we_o know_v have_v mutual_a and_o tender_a care_n of_o and_o love_v one_o to_o another_o even_o so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o mystical_a body_n the_o church_n the_o true_a member_n love_v one_o another_o and_o as_o they_o have_v union_n with_o the_o head_n so_o they_o have_v also_o one_o with_o another_o and_o where_o there_o be_v at_o any_o time_n any_o dissension_n and_o external_n separation_n corruption_n and_o satan_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o which_o shall_v occasion_n repentance_n and_o humiliation_n and_o not_o boast_v the_o apostle_n paul_n show_v we_o plain_o wherein_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o true_a member_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n consist_v which_o
