he_o either_o by_o affliction_n or_o by_o sin_n and_o his_o manner_n in_o both_o be_v sometime_o alike_o you_o shall_v see_v one_o who_o have_v attain_v to_o a_o great_a measure_n of_o grace_n already_o and_o that_o by_o affliction_n and_o yet_o never_o to_o be_v out_o of_o the_o fire_n but_o god_n still_o follow_v he_o with_o one_o affliction_n or_o another_o whereas_o one_o of_o less_o growth_n and_o grace_n who_o in_o that_o regard_n have_v more_o need_n shall_v have_v few_o affliction_n in_o his_o course_n and_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o this_o difference_n it_o be_v not_o that_o the_o grow_v christian_a have_v simple_o more_o need_n of_o affliction_n than_o the_o other_o but_o because_o god_n intend_v to_o bring_v he_o on_o yet_o to_o a_o further_a degree_n of_o grace_n as_o refiner_n of_o sugar_n take_v sugar_n out_o of_o the_o same_o chest_n some_o thereof_o they_o melt_v but_o once_o and_o another_o part_n of_o it_o they_o melt_v and_o refine_v again_o and_o again_o not_o that_o that_o which_o they_o refine_v twice_o have_v more_o dross_n in_o it_o but_o because_o they_o will_v have_v it_o more_o refine_a double_a refine_a and_o as_o god_n deal_v thus_o in_o affliction_n so_o also_o in_o leave_v of_o his_o people_n to_o the_o stir_v of_o corruption_n which_o of_o all_o affliction_n be_v the_o great_a to_o humble_v a_o holy_a heart_n and_o thus_o in_o experience_n it_o be_v find_v that_o he_o do_v sometime_o leave_v a_o grow_v christian_a to_o conflict_n with_o corruption_n more_o than_o a_o weak_a christian_a not_o that_o he_o have_v more_o in_o he_o but_o because_o he_o mean_v to_o bring_v on_o that_o grow_v christian_a to_o a_o further_a degree_n of_o humiliation_n he_o be_v not_o humble_v as_o he_o mean_v to_o have_v he_o yet_o and_o whereas_o god_n humble_v some_o man_n by_o affliction_n he_o humble_v other_o by_o sin_n and_o nothing_o humble_v more_o than_o sin_n for_o cross_n do_v but_o humble_a by_o reveal_v sin_n as_o the_o cause_n and_o nothing_o will_v humble_v a_o grow_v christian_n more_o than_o to_o see_v such_o shameful_a foul_a corruption_n still_o stir_v in_o he_o the_o great_a aggravation_n of_o which_o to_o he_o will_v be_v in_o this_o that_o after_o so_o long_a a_o time_n such_o lust_n shall_v be_v so_o lively_a in_o he_o to_o have_v such_o gross_a fault_n in_o his_o exercise_n after_o he_o have_v be_v so_o long_o at_o school_n this_o shame_v he_o for_o a_o grow_v christian_n to_o be_v disguise_v with_o a_o corruption_n and_o when_o his_o hair_n be_v grow_v to_o have_v it_o shave_v off_o as_o david_n messenger_n be_v ashamed_a of_o it_o so_o how_o do_v it_o shame_v he_o and_o humble_v he_o thus_o hezekiah_n though_o he_o be_v much_o humble_v by_o a_o sickness_n to_o death_n but_o because_o he_o be_v not_o humble_v enough_o and_o so_o far_o as_o god_n mean_v to_o bring_v he_o therefore_o god_n let_v loose_a pride_n on_o he_o and_o then_o he_o further_o humble_v himself_o and_o all_o israel_n as_o it_o be_v 2_o chron._n 32._o 26._o upon_o some_o man_n god_n show_v his_o free_a grace_n in_o keep_v they_o from_o sin_n upon_o other_o he_o spend_v it_o in_o pardon_v they_o these_o be_v but_o two_o several_a way_n he_o have_v of_o lay_v it_o out_o and_o so_o sometime_o he_o show_v his_o grace_n in_o keep_v those_o of_o less_o grace_n and_o again_o in_o let_v those_o of_o more_o to_o struggle_v with_o their_o lust_n and_o such_o sickness_n be_v not_o to_o death_n or_o to_o weaken_v they_o but_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o their_o further_a growth_n for_o this_o will_v be_v the_o effect_n and_o consequent_a of_o such_o stir_n in_o grow_a christian_n that_o as_o their_o fit_n of_o corruption_n stir_v be_v great_a so_o their_o humbling_n will_v be_v great_a grace_n be_v much_o in_o they_o will_v show_v itself_o that_o way_n great_a fit_n of_o sin_v have_v intermingle_v with_o they_o great_a exercise_n of_o repenting_n and_o the_o growth_n of_o their_o grace_n will_v show_v itself_o in_o they_o and_o appear_v in_o they_o even_o as_o in_o man_n that_o be_v cheerful_a natural_o but_o sometime_o oppress_v with_o melancholy_a when_o those_o pressure_n be_v over_o they_o be_v most_o merry_a their_o spirit_n break_v forth_o be_v at_o liberty_n they_o show_v themselves_o as_o much_o on_o the_o contrary_a in_o mirth_n so_o be_v it_o here_o when_o grace_n get_v above_o again_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o body_n when_o the_o spirit_n be_v not_o weak_a but_o only_o be_v keep_v under_o by_o humour_n when_o they_o do_v once_o get_v up_o they_o then_o show_v their_o strength_n in_o cause_v the_o body_n to_o grow_v the_o more_o as_o in_o many_o young_a man_n after_o a_o sickness_n where_o strength_n of_o nature_n be_v and_o so_o thereby_o they_o become_v after_o often_o the_o better_a and_o more_o lively_a but_o if_o the_o natural_a spirit_n be_v weak_a it_o be_v not_o so_o a_o second_o limitation_n be_v limitation_n that_o though_o one_o his_o lust_n rise_v often_o and_o that_o with_o delight_n and_o be_v apt_a to_o catch_v fire_n present_o although_o they_o be_v smother_v as_o fast_o as_o they_o catch_v his_o case_n then_o be_v as_o if_o there_o be_v a_o heap_n of_o straw_n in_o a_o room_n where_o fire_n be_v where_o spark_n fly_v about_o still_o take_v fire_n upon_o every_o occasion_n but_o he_o that_o keep_v the_o straw_n be_v careful_a still_o to_o put_v it_o out_o and_o second_o in_o this_o case_n they_o shall_v find_v the_o strength_n of_o their_o corruption_n in_o privative_a work_n against_o grace_n and_o distract_n and_o disturb_v they_o dead_v their_o heart_n in_o duty_n and_o therefore_o when_o the_o apostle_n have_v exhort_v such_o to_o walk_v in_o the_o spirit_n so_o as_o not_o to_o fulfil_v the_o lust_n true_a believer_n do_v grow_v more_o or_o less_o in_o fruitfulness_n i_o shall_v give_v both_o proof_n and_o reason_n of_o it_o for_o proof_n out_o of_o scripture_n those_o two_o place_n hosea_n the_o 14._o 5._o compare_v with_o psal_n 92._o where_o the_o holy_a ghost_n single_v out_o the_o choice_a tree_n and_o flower_n in_o the_o world_n on_o purpose_n to_o express_v the_o saint_n fruitfulness_n and_o their_o growth_n therein_o as_o first_o to_o show_v the_o sudden_a spring_v up_o of_o the_o new_a creature_n as_o it_o fall_v out_o upon_o some_o man_n conversion_n or_o upon_o the_o saint_n recovery_n again_o after_o fall_n he_o compare_v they_o to_o the_o lily_n hos_n 14._o 5._o who_o stalk_n though_o long_o hide_v in_o the_o earth_n when_o once_o it_o begin_v to_o feel_v the_o dew_n grow_v up_o oftentimes_o in_o a_o night_n but_o yet_o a_o lily_n be_v but_o a_o flower_n and_o soon_o decay_v therefore_o second_o so_o show_v their_o perpetuity_n and_o stability_n together_o with_o only_o most_o durable_a but_o of_o all_o tree_n the_o tall_a and_o shoot_v up_o the_o high_a but_o yet_o three_o suppose_v the_o new_a creature_n be_v keep_v under_o and_o oppress_v with_o tentation_n and_o opposition_n yet_o to_o show_v that_o still_o it_o will_v grow_v and_o flourish_v again_o therefore_o he_o further_o compare_v they_o to_o a_o palm_n tree_n which_o use_v to_o grow_v the_o more_o weight_n be_v hang_v upon_o it_o and_o sprout_n again_o even_o when_o it_o be_v cut_v down_o to_o the_o root_n four_o to_o show_v that_o they_o grow_v with_o all_o kind_n of_o growth_n therefore_o the_o prophet_n express_v their_o growth_n both_o by_o the_o spread_a of_o their_o root_n and_o also_o of_o the_o branch_n and_o so_o in_o a_o growth_n both_o upward_o and_o downward_o he_o shall_v cast_v forth_o his_o
root_n as_o lebanon_n that_o be_v grow_v inward_o in_o habitual_a grace_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o then_o outward_o spread_v forth_o their_o branch_n and_o so_o grow_v in_o the_o outward_a profession_n of_o god_n way_n and_o truth_n and_o external_a holiness_n in_o their_o life_n neither_o five_o be_v it_o a_o growth_n mere_o in_o bulk_n but_o also_o in_o fruitfulness_n and_o therefore_o he_o compare_v they_o to_o the_o olive_n and_o the_o vine_n so_o in_o that_o place_n of_o hosea_n which_o be_v of_o all_o tree_n the_o fruitfull_a and_o most_o useful_a to_o god_n and_o which_o if_o it_o be_v wonder_v at_o and_o how_o grace_n shall_v grow_v and_o multiply_v the_o soil_n of_o our_o heart_n be_v a_o stepmother_n to_o it_o from_o i_o say_v christ_n be_v thy_o fruit_n find_v ver_fw-la 8._o of_o that_o 14._o of_o hosea_n it_o be_v god_n that_o give_v this_o increase_n and_o i_o will_v be_v as_o the_o dew_n to_o israel_n ver_fw-la 5._o the_o reason_n why_o be_v plenitudito_fw-mi partium_fw-la a_o fullness_n of_o part_n no_o member_n lack_v so_o also_o plenitudo_fw-la graduum_fw-la no_o degree_n of_o growth_n want_v in_o any_o part_n that_o so_o christ_n who_o fill_v all_o in_o all_o may_v be_v full_o full_a and_o as_o there_o will_v be_v a_o deformity_n if_o any_o one_o shall_v not_o grow_v as_o to_o have_v a_o wither_a member_n be_v a_o dishonour_n they_o shall_v grow_v therefore_o it_o be_v say_v psal_n 92._o they_o so_o all_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n in_o their_o age_n to_o show_v the_o lord_n be_v faithful_a which_o respect_v his_o promise_n 4._o 16._o the_o same_o power_n work_v in_o we_o which_o raise_v up_o jesus_n christ_n from_o death_n to_o life_n eph._n 1._o 19_o the_o last_o reason_n be_v take_v from_o the_o saint_n themselves_o themselves_o they_o can_v not_o otherwise_o enter_v into_o heaven_n which_o i_o take_v from_o that_o place_n except_o you_o be_v convert_v and_o become_v as_o little_a child_n you_o can_v enter_v thing_n of_o the_o world_n he_o put_v the_o lust_n which_o be_v in_o we_o to_o express_v the_o thing_n themselves_o he_o say_v not_o riches_n and_o preferment_n etc._n etc._n though_o he_o speak_v after_o they_o and_o so_o much_o want_v of_o mortification_n and_o when_o these_o lust_n boil_v in_o we_o fume_v up_o so_o high_a as_o to_o intoxicate_a and_o corrupt_a our_o esteem_n and_o
