that_o way_n or_o manner_n of_o work_v which_o experience_n teach_v to_o be_v dangerous_a and_o to_o administer_v matter_n of_o stumble_v to_o poor_a soul_n for_o as_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n in_o his_o word_n be_v manifold_a so_o the_o working_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o faithful_a through_o which_o they_o be_v enable_v to_o live_v by_o faith_n be_v manifold_a and_o various_a though_o in_o the_o substance_n all_o agree_v as_o in_o our_o justification_n so_o in_o all_o the_o rest_n one_o be_v enable_v to_o live_v by_o faith_n herein_o from_o such_o a_o principle_n another_o from_o such_o a_o principle_n yea_o the_o same_o person_n look_v upon_o himself_o at_o sundry_a time_n shall_v find_v that_o one_o while_o his_o faith_n spring_v from_o one_o principle_n or_o consideration_n another_o while_n from_o another_o as_o for_o example_n perhaps_o to_o day_n i_o believe_v my_o justification_n and_o go_v on_o believe_v it_o for_o a_o week_n or_o a_o month_n together_o from_o such_o a_o consideration_n as_o this_o viz._n god_n have_v make_v a_o covenant_n with_o i_o in_o his_o son_n and_o this_o be_v unchangeable_a as_o not_o make_v upon_o condition_n of_o my_o obedience_n so_o noâ—_n break_v by_o my_o disobedience_n and_o hence_o i_o believe_v i_o be_o justify_v another_o while_n perhaps_o this_o principle_n be_v not_o so_o lively_a and_o vigorous_a as_o to_o keep_v up_o my_o faith_n but_o then_o another_o do_v it_o as_o this_o god_n justify_v the_o ungodly_a now_o say_v the_o soul_n though_o i_o can_v say_v i_o be_o a_o saint_n yet_o this_o i_o can_v say_v i_o be_o a_o ungodly_a one_o well_o god_n justify_v the_o ungodly_a this_o be_v a_o precious_a truth_n i_o own_v it_o i_o cleave_v to_o it_o i_o be_o a_o ungodly_a one_o a_o sinner_n i_o believe_v god_n justify_v i_o when_o this_o have_v keep_v up_o faith_n a_o while_n than_o it_o may_v be_v the_o life_n and_o vigour_n of_o this_o go_v off_o the_o heart_n too_o and_o then_o come_v another_o as_o this_o the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n by_o which_o poor_a sinner_n be_v justify_v be_v a_o perfect_a complete_a righteousness_n this_o righteousness_n be_v give_v to_o those_o that_o believe_v to_o such_o he_o become_v the_o lord_n their_o righteousness_n i_o be_o a_o poor_a sinner_n of_o my_o own_o i_o have_v no_o righteousness_n this_o i_o do_v i_o cleave_v to_o his_o righteousness_n which_o be_v persect_v and_o able_a full_o to_o justify_v my_o poor_a soul_n and_o i_o do_v in_o some_o measure_n believe_v that_o i_o have_v a_o share_n in_o this_o righteousness_n it_o be_v i_o and_o that_o i_o be_o thereby_o justify_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n these_o principle_n with_o many_o other_o though_o diverse_a in_o themselves_o yet_o do_v they_o sweet_o agree_v in_o the_o main_a all_o lead_v the_o soul_n to_o something_o without_o for_o justification_n and_o true_o this_o premisal_n be_v very_o necessary_a and_o material_a for_o how_o ordinary_a be_v it_o with_o poor_a soul_n if_o so_o be_v their_o faith_n have_v be_v carry_v out_o from_o such_o a_o principle_n and_o they_o hear_v another_o in_o relate_v his_o experience_n have_v be_v carry_v out_o from_o another_o to_o question_v the_o truth_n of_o their_o own_o at_o least_o to_o have_v some_o jealousy_n about_o it_o yea_o some_o poor_a soul_n be_v sometime_o ready_a to_o stagger_v when_o they_o look_v upon_o themselves_o and_o consider_v the_o last_o month_n or_o the_o last_o year_n i_o have_v much_o strength_n and_o ability_n to_o believe_v from_o such_o a_o
the_o resurrection_n of_o christ_n it_o do_v revive_v and_o have_v quicken_a already_o say_v the_o soul_n though_o i_o be_o dead_a my_o grace_n lie_v as_o though_o dead_a affection_n dead_a heart_n in_o duty_n dead_a yet_o i_o have_v quicken_a in_o christ_n i_o have_v a_o stock_n of_o life_n in_o jesus_n christ_n coloss_n 3.3_o you_o be_v dead_a and_o your_o life_n be_v hide_v with_o christ_n but_o one_o act_n yet_o have_v a_o continual_a stream_n of_o virtue_n flow_v from_o it_o for_o the_o quicken_a of_o soul_n 4_o faith_n take_v hold_v of_o any_o word_n of_o promise_n in_o the_o book_n of_o god_n that_o may_v be_v any_o ground_n of_o encouragement_n to_o believe_v his_o quicken_n it_o as_o that_o word_n of_o christ_n joh._n 10.10_o i_o be_o come_v that_o they_o may_v have_v life_n difference_n between_o that_o sanctification_n which_o arise_v from_o a_o enlighten_v conscience_n and_o that_o sanctification_n which_o arise_v from_o faith_n or_o believe_v there_o be_v a_o sanctification_n which_o arise_v from_o the_o mere_a dictate_v of_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n and_o that_o sanctification_n the_o heathen_a moralist_n attain_v to_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o and_o there_o be_v a_o jewish_a sanctification_n or_o legal_a and_o that_o be_v such_o a_o sanctification_n as_o be_v beget_v by_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n but_o there_o be_v another_o sanctification_n and_o that_o be_v a_o gospel-sanctification_a that_o be_v such_o a_o sanctification_n as_o be_v wrought_v in_o the_o soul_n from_o the_o behold_v the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n such_o a_o sanctification_n as_o be_v wrought_v from_o believe_v his_o justification_n now_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o this_o sanctification_n and_o the_o other_o which_o arise_v only_o from_o a_o enlighten_v conscience_n for_o both_o arise_v from_o a_o enlighten_v conscience_n the_o one_o from_o conscience_n be_v enlighten_v by_o nature_n law_n the_o other_o from_o the_o write_a law_n but_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n answ_n 1._o that_o which_o arise_v from_o natural_a conscience_n be_v something_o of_o the_o more_o gross_a part_n of_o sanctification_n but_o a_o piece_n and_o do_v not_o take_v in_o any_o thing_n of_o the_o fine_a part_n of_o sanctification_n a_o forsake_v some_o sin_n that_o be_v outward_a and_o gross_a his_o conscience_n can_v but_o fly_v in_o his_o face_n so_o that_o he_o shall_v not_o rest_v quiet_o night_n nor_o day_n such_o as_o drunkenness_n adultery_n and_o the_o like_a it_o be_v in_o respect_n of_o those_o duty_n that_o be_v more_o apparent_a such_o as_o prayer_n hear_v the_o word_n such_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v let_v alone_o he_o shall_v have_v no_o quiet_a nor_o peace_n in_o conscience_n but_o that_o sanctification_n that_o come_v from_o faith_n that_o be_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o inward_a more_o secret_a evil_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o secret_a rise_n of_o pride_n unbeleef_n and_o passion_n and_o so_o for_o more_o inward_a duty_n that_o sanctification_n teach_v a_o man_n to_o deny_v himself_o to_o submit_v himself_o to_o god_n will_v to_o be_v content_a with_o god_n disposal_n 2._o that_o sanctification_n which_o come_v from_o a_o enlighten_v conscience_n only_o raise_v a_o man_n to_o be_v more_o self_n conceit_v but_o that_o sanctification_n that_o come_v from_o faith_n and_o believe_a throw_v a_o man_n down_o in_o respect_n of_o all_o self-conceit_n it_o make_v a_o man_n more_o mean_a and_o low_a in_o his_o own_o eye_n as_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n and_o jew_n in_o our_o saviour_n time_n they_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o this_o outward_a holiness_n and_o sanctification_n but_o see_v how_o it_o puff_v they_o up_o how_o they_o stand_v upon_o tiptoe_n and_o crow_v over_o poor_a harlot_n and_o publican_n as_o not_o fit_a to_o come_v in_o the_o company_n of_o such_o as_o they_o be_v but_o that_o which_o come_v from_o faith_n make_v the_o soul_n more_o humble_a what_o abundance_n of_o sanctification_n paul_n have_v he_o do_v press_v after_o perfection_n do_v walk_v more_o like_a one_o in_o heaven_n than_o on_o earth_n yet_o he_o can_v look_v upon_o himself_o as_o the_o least_o of_o saint_n concern_v act_v for_o god_n labour_v in_o the_o work_n of_o god_n he_o preach_v the_o gospel_n from_o jerusalem_n to_o illiricum_n labour_v more_o abundant_o than_o they_o all_o yet_o how_o humble_a yet_o not_o i_o but_o
come_v in_o the_o room_n thereof_o whereby_o the_o soul_n possess_v abundance_n of_o inward_a peace_n pass_v all_o understanding_n o_o say_v the_o soul_n i_o never_o know_v what_o a_o calm_a be_v till_o now_o that_o i_o have_v the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n set_v up_o in_o my_o conscience_n i_o have_v be_v oftentimes_o toss_v too_o and_o fro_o and_o my_o soul_n near_o upon_o shipwreck_n but_o now_o thanks_o be_v to_o god_n i_o enjoy_v a_o bless_a calm_n i_o never_o know_v what_o a_o calm_a of_o conscience_n be_v till_o now_o therefore_o my_o heart_n rejoice_v my_o tongue_n be_v concernment_n it_o be_v keep_v a_o guard_n day_n and_o night_n at_o the_o gate_n of_o conscience_n so_o as_o that_o when_o any_o of_o the_o eject_v enemy_n will_v re-enter_v present_o they_o be_v under_o examination_n who_o be_v here_o who_o be_v you_o who_o be_v you_o for_o why_o i_o be_o such_o a_o one_o then_o stand_v stand_v off_o come_v not_o here_o this_o be_v the_o garrison_n christ_n righteousness_n and_o here_o be_v strict_a command_n no_o such_o must_v enter_v act._n 24.16_o paul_n make_v it_o his_o exercise_n to_o keep_v conscience_n clear_a though_o he_o can_v not_o but_o fail_v in_o his_o duty_n towards_o god_n and_o man_n both_o yet_o he_o exercise_v himself_o to_o keep_v his_o conscience_n clear_a to_o keep_v it_o void_a of_o offence_n that_o though_o offence_n be_v promise_n and_o covenant_n of_o god_n this_o be_v a_o better_a ground_n 1_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o clearness_n of_o the_o ground_n it_o be_v such_o a_o ground_n as_o do_v more_o clear_o represent_v the_o thing_n than_o any_o other_o thing_n can_v i_o may_v more_o clear_o see_v and_o behold_v my_o justification_n in_o the_o promise_n than_o in_o any_o experience_n whatever_o that_o soul_n that_o within_o the_o veil_n he_o shall_v find_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o the_o sting_n take_v off_o here_o for_o the_o present_a and_o whole_o at_o that_o day_n when_o he_o come_v within_o the_o veil_n there_o be_v nothing_o but_o peace_n peace_n there_o 3_o there_o be_v freedom_n from_o all_o accusation_n and_o temptation_n of_o satan_n when_o within_o the_o veil_n the_o devil_n shall_v never_o accuse_v more_o he_o can_v come_v there_o never_o tempt_v more_o now_o what_o violent_a temptation_n be_v we_o under_o one_o while_o tempt_v to_o one_o sin_n another_o while_n to_o another_o but_o then_o we_o shall_v be_v free_a from_o all_o never_o tempt_v to_o distrust_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n more_o never_o tempt_v to_o unbelief_n more_o never_o tempt_v to_o murmur_v against_o god_n more_o never_o tempt_v to_o be_v proud_a more_o temptation_n cease_v within_o the_o veil_n thou_o shall_v leave_v all_o that_o be_v evil_a on_o this_o side_n the_o veil_n never_o shall_v a_o poor_a soul_n meet_v with_o a_o temptation_n there_o 4_o within_o the_o veil_n be_v freedom_n from_o all_o persecution_n and_o scoff_n and_o reproach_n there_o shall_v be_v no_o cruel_a cain_n to_o kill_v his_o
