dark_a frail_a nature_n every_o man_n and_o woman_n be_v a_o brother_n but_o some_o relation_n more_o near_o than_o other_o this_o spiritual_a relation_n the_o same_o profession_n the_o same_o faith_n the_o same_o god_n the_o same_o inheritance_n this_o be_v a_o great_a engagement_n to_o pass_v by_o and_o to_o forgive_v wrong_n whilst_o he_o be_v a_o brother_n the_o lord_n when_o he_o forgive_v he_o forgive_v inferior_n there_o be_v a_o infinite_a distance_n between_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n when_o the_o lord_n forgive_v a_o poor_a creature_n there_o be_v a_o infinite_a distance_n betwixt_o god_n and_o man_n but_o not_o betwixt_o man_n and_o man_n and_o therefore_o upon_o this_o account_n christ_n require_v it_o but_o then_o 3._o reas_n three_o another_o ground_n be_v this_o if_o there_o be_v neglect_n of_o this_o duty_n unto_o any_o of_o their_o brethren_n it_o will_v be_v a_o grief_n unto_o their_o fellow-servant_n and_o they_o will_v make_v their_o complaint_n unto_o their_o lord_n it_o can_v but_o be_v a_o great_a grief_n of_o heart_n unto_o those_o that_o be_v fellow-servant_n when_o any_o that_o do_v profess_v the_o name_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v so_o far_o from_o perform_v this_o duty_n that_o they_o shall_v express_v a_o spirit_n of_o revenge_n and_o a_o spirit_n of_o enmity_n it_o will_v sadden_fw-mi the_o heart_n of_o many_o saint_n when_o they_o shall_v see_v one_o that_o be_v call_v a_o brother_n a_o professor_n when_o they_o shall_v see_v he_o so_o unready_a to_o forgive_v as_o he_o shall_v study_v wrong_n and_o injury_n and_o study_v revenge_n it_o will_v grieve_v they_o and_o cause_v they_o many_o time_n to_o go_v to_o the_o lord_n and_o make_v their_o complaint_n there_o be_v such_o a_o man_n that_o make_v profession_n of_o thy_o name_n and_o yet_o walk_v very_o unworthy_a of_o that_o profession_n very_o unsuitable_a but_o 4._o reas_n four_o again_o neglect_v of_o this_o duty_n will_v hinder_v and_o keep_v back_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o good_a and_o pull_v down_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o evil_n christ_n know_v this_o very_a well_o and_o therefore_o he_o do_v command_v this_o duty_n christ_n know_v that_o the_o neglect_n of_o this_o duty_n will_v hinder_v man_n of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o good_a it_o may_v deprive_v a_o man_n of_o many_o temporal_a mercy_n of_o many_o temporal_a salvation_n the_o lord_n may_v call_v in_o the_o grant_n of_o temporal_a mercy_n whenas_o he_o shall_v see_v such_o a_o spirit_n in_o any_o that_o profess_v his_o name_n as_o to_o retain_v the_o sense_n of_o wrong_n and_o injury_n and_o not_o to_o pass_v they_o by_o it_o put_v the_o lord_n upon_o it_o many_o time_n to_o recall_v the_o grant_n of_o temporal_a mercy_n as_o in_o the_o parable_n follow_v nay_o not_o only_o so_o but_o it_o may_v deprive_v the_o soul_n of_o many_o special_a spiritual_a choice_n mercy_n it_o may_v hinder_v the_o soul_n from_o behold_v the_o light_n of_o god_n countenance_n it_o be_v true_a the_o soul_n be_v once_o pardon_v by_o faith_n in_o christ_n god_n will_v never_o recall_v that_o pardon_n ay_o but_o if_o that_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o be_v pardon_v and_o they_o have_v the_o pardon_v seal_v and_o witness_v yet_o shall_v walk_v unworthy_a of_o pardon_v love_n and_o shall_v not_o come_v up_o to_o this_o duty_n of_o forgive_a pardon_v and_o pass_v by_o wrong_n and_o injury_n the_o lord_n will_v recall_v the_o manifestation_n of_o his_o pardon_v love_n and_o the_o sense_n of_o it_o though_o not_o the_o pardon_n itself_o it_o do_v not_o only_o deprive_v the_o soul_n of_o much_o good_a but_o it_o also_o pull_v down_o much_o evil_n and_o not_o only_o outward_a evil_n but_o sometime_o the_o lord_n manifest_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o wrath_n and_o displeasure_n upon_o such_o a_o one_o as_o be_v of_o a_o implacable_a spirit_n to_o retain_v wrong_n and_o injury_n as_o it_o be_v with_o that_o servant_n that_o will_v not_o forgive_v his_o fellow-servant_n the_o lord_n command_v that_o he_o shall_v be_v deliver_v up_o unto_o the_o tormentor_n and_o cast_v into_o prison_n until_o he_o have_v pay_v the_o uttermost_a farthing_n why_o a_o man_n though_o he_o have_v but_o a_o profession_n the_o lord_n let_v he_o alone_o with_o that_o formal_a profession_n till_o such_o time_n as_o he_o come_v forth_o with_o such_o a_o waspish_a peevish_a spirit_n against_o god_n people_n and_o seek_v to_o wrong_v and_o injure_v they_o why_o then_o the_o lord_n he_o take_v the_o advantage_n upon_o he_o and_o give_v he_o up_o unto_o the_o tormentor_n because_o of_o such_o a_o waspish_a spirit_n whenas_o he_o will_v not_o forgive_v a_o brother_n a_o wrong_n or_o injury_n but_o retain_v anger_n he_o can_v find_v in_o his_o heart_n to_o forgive_v the_o lord_n sometime_o come_v upon_o such_o a_o man_n though_o a_o christian_a the_o lord_n come_v and_o take_v he_o and_o deliver_v he_o up_o to_o the_o tormentor_n deliver_v he_o up_o to_o his_o own_o conscience_n though_o not_o to_o deliver_v he_o up_o out_o of_o his_o hand_n but_o the_o lord_n will_v deliver_v he_o up_o unto_o his_o own_o conscience_n unto_o the_o manifestation_n of_o wrath_n till_o he_o shall_v have_v make_v satisfaction_n till_o he_o shall_v have_v cry_v out_o unto_o christ_n for_o more_o strength_n to_o carry_v it_o more_o like_a unto_o he_o 5._o reason_n but_o last_o christ_n command_v and_o commend_v the_o forgive_n of_o wrong_n and_o injury_n that_o

be_v they_o to_o pass_v by_o wrong_n and_o injury_n which_o be_v do_v unto_o they_o by_o their_o brethren_n i_o give_v you_o the_o ground_n of_o the_o point_n the_o last_o day_n i_o come_v to_o answer_v some_o objection_n and_o case_n of_o conscience_n but_o i_o come_v now_o to_o the_o application_n and_o use_v of_o the_o point_n 1._o use_v it_o be_v a_o word_n of_o reproof_n in_o the_o first_o place_n oh_o what_o a_o sad_a complaint_n may_v we_o take_v up_o that_o this_o duty_n which_o jesus_n christ_n command_v be_v so_o little_o practise_v in_o our_o generation_n that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o unreadiness_n in_o the_o spirit_n of_o most_o man_n if_o not_o in_o all_o man_n to_o come_v up_o to_o this_o duty_n a_o gospel_n duty_n a_o hard_a duty_n and_o oh_o what_o unreadiness_n be_v there_o in_o man_n spirit_n to_o come_v up_o unto_o the_o practice_n of_o it_o oh_o how_o many_o be_v there_o in_o the_o world_n that_o do_v not_o only_o come_v short_a of_o walk_v up_o unto_o this_o rule_n but_o do_v walk_v quite_o contrary_a unto_o it_o and_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o who_o they_o be_v and_o oh_o that_o god_n will_v speak_v convince_o unto_o man_n heart_n 1._o first_o they_o walk_v contrary_a unto_o this_o rule_n of_o christ_n who_o be_v easy_o provoke_v unto_o wrath_n who_o be_v soon_o displease_v who_o be_v soon_o put_v out_o of_o the_o way_n take_v up_o every_o small_a wrong_n every_o petty_a offence_n nay_o be_v many_o time_n provoke_v unto_o wrath_n upon_o a_o conceit_a injury_n for_o a_o poor_a trivial_a business_n that_o will_v make_v a_o man_n a_o offender_n for_o a_o word_n nay_o it_o may_v be_v displease_v for_o want_n of_o a_o look_n or_o for_o want_n of_o a_o compliment_n oh_o how_o contrary_a be_v this_o unto_o the_o rule_n of_o christ_n oh_o how_o far_o be_v such_o spirit_n from_o that_o forbearance_n and_o that_o long-suffering_a that_o the_o gospel_n call_v unto_o where_o be_v the_o grace_n of_o long-suffering_a nay_o such_o spirit_n they_o be_v far_o from_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o love_n love_n believe_v all_o thing_n and_o hope_v all_o thing_n make_v the_o best_a interpretation_n of_o all_o thing_n such_o spirit_n as_o be_v easy_o provoke_v with_o every_o petty_a wrong_n and_o offence_n they_o be_v far_o from_o the_o duty_n of_o the_o exercise_n of_o this_o grace_n of_o long-suffering_a and_o come_v far_o short_a of_o walk_v up_o to_o this_o rule_n that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v leave_v for_o his_o disciple_n to_o walk_v in_o but_o 2._o second_o they_o walk_v contrary_a unto_o this_o the_o sun_n set_v seven_o time_n nay_o seventy_o time_n seven_o on_o their_o wrath_n let_v i_o say_v to_o such_o i_o must_v needs_o say_v that_o such_o act_n be_v beneath_o the_o act_n of_o a_o man_n there_o be_v a_o heavy_a judgement_n upon_o such_o a_o man_n or_o such_o a_o woman_n a_o heavy_a judgement_n be_v upon_o they_o and_o they_o know_v not_o of_o it_o i_o say_v such_o as_o can_v retain_v man_n to_o dwell_v with_o the_o beast_n his_o reason_n be_v take_v from_o he_o and_o he_o be_v cast_v out_o seven_o time_n yea_o seven_o year_n among_o the_o beast_n i_o say_v it_o of_o such_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o have_v this_o spirit_n reign_v upon_o they_o whenas_o anger_n lodge_v in_o their_o heart_n they_o be_v turn_v out_o as_o among_o the_o beast_n what_o a_o judgement_n be_v it_o to_o be_v turn_v out_o among_o the_o beast_n day_n and_o year_n together_o and_o so_o be_v every_o one_o judge_v of_o god_n till_o they_o shall_v come_v to_o know_v that_o the_o most_o high_a rule_v over_o all_o and_o that_o he_o have_v teach_v they_o this_o lesson_n to_o forget_v and_o to_o forgive_v but_o let_v i_o say_v again_o of_o such_o whilst_o passion_n so_o reign_v they_o give_v entertainment_n unto_o satan_n that_o foul_a and_o unclean_a spirit_n when_o ever_o anger_n and_o wrath_n lodge_v in_o any_o man_n heart_n the_o devil_n lodge_v there_o too_o see_v it_o in_o ephes_n 4._o 26_o 27._o be_v angry_a and_o sin_n not_o let_v not_o the_o sun_n go_v down_o in_o your_o wrath_n neither_o give_v place_n to_o the_o devil_n that_o man_n that_o let_v anger_n lodge_v in_o his_o bosom_n all_o night_n give_v entertainment_n that_o night_n to_o the_o devil_n there_o be_v many_o a_o man_n and_o many_o a_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n in_o word_n will_v bid_v defiance_n to_o the_o devil_n or_o satan_n and_o yet_o they_o open_v their_o bosom_n their_o breast_n and_o their_o door_n and_o give_v entertainment_n unto_o satan_n for_o where_o anger_n and_o wrath_n lodge_v in_o any_o man_n bosom_n the_o devil_n will_v certain_o creep_v in_o they_o can_v be_v part_v these_o two_o will_v go_v together_o if_o there_o be_v anger_n one_o night_n that_o night_n the_o devil_n will_v be_v there_o too_o and_o oh_o that_o we_o may_v not_o be_v find_v to_o give_v entertainment_n unto_o such_o a_o guest_n as_o satan_n be_v but_o they_o do_v give_v entertainment_n unto_o he_o that_o be_v retentive_a of_o wrong_n and_o injury_n but_o 3._o three_o how_o contrary_a do_v they_o walk_v unto_o the_o rule_n of_o christ_n that_o do_v aggravate_v all_o offence_n which_o be_v do_v unto_o they_o aggravate_v all_o wrong_n and_o all_o injury_n and_o do_v improve_v they_o to_o the_o uttermost_a and_o make_v the_o worst_a of_o they_o so_o do_v laban_n whenas_o he_o pursue_v after_o jacob_n when_o he_o return_v to_o his_o own_o country_n gen._n 31._o laban_n pursue_v after_o he_o 26_o 27_o 30_o verse_n what_o have_v thou_o do_v that_o thou_o have_v steal_v away_o unaware_o to_o i_o and_o yet_o christ_n disciple_n must_v submit_v unto_o it_o if_o thou_o be_v one_o that_o do_v profess_v nothing_o but_o flesh_n and_o blood_n i_o shall_v need_v to_o press_v this_o no_o further_o to_o have_v do_v thou_o the_o wrong_n object_n 2._o ay_o but_o it_o will_v be_v object_v further_a he_o have_v do_v i_o that_o wrong_n that_o can_v be_v repair_v he_o have_v wrong_v i_o in_o my_o good_a again_o but_o he_o have_v wound_v my_o good_a name_n take_v away_o my_o good_a name_n and_o therefore_o herein_o it_o be_v hard_o for_o a_o man_n to_o come_v up_o to_o this_o duty_n of_o forgive_n of_o such_o wrong_n answ_n 1._o but_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v thou_o speak_v of_o arrow_n that_o shall_v wound_v thou_o in_o thy_o name_n oh_o but_o they_o be_v not_o worse_o than_o those_o which_o in_o it_o he_o can_v not_o have_v open_v his_o mouth_n against_o he_o david_n consider_v that_o when_o shimei_n curse_v he_o say_v he_o it_o may_v be_v god_n have_v say_v unto_o he_o go_v and_o it_o be_v not_o obvious_a to_o the_o view_n of_o other_o thus_o you_o see_v that_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v a_o hide_a life_n and_o therefore_o do_v it_o you_o say_v that_o there_o be_v not_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o such_o and_o such_o as_o profess_v themselves_o to_o be_v christian_n because_o you_o see_v not_o those_o operation_n it_o may_v be_v springtime_n or_o it_o may_v be_v wintertime_n with_o they_o or_o it_o may_v be_v a_o time_n of_o swoond_v well_o notwithstanding_o there_o be_v life_n though_o thou_o discerne_v it_o not_o 2._o but_o again_o second_o to_o give_v every_o member_n do_v not_o grow_v alike_o and_o one_o member_n have_v more_o strength_n than_o another_o will_v you_o say_v that_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o in_o the_o finger_n because_o the_o finger_n have_v not_o so_o much_o strength_n as_o the_o arm_n will_v you_o say_v the_o soul_n be_v not_o in_o the_o foot_n because_o it_o have_v not_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o leg_n why_o thus_o brethren_n it_o be_v with_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n all_o have_v not_o the_o same_o part_n and_o therefore_o all_o have_v not_o the_o same_o strength_n though_o the_o same_o spirit_n of_o life_n that_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n do_v inform_v the_o mean_a of_o his_o member_n though_o it_o do_v not_o grow_v so_o big_a and_o so_o strong_a as_o in_o other_o member_n yet_o the_o lord_n have_v provide_v by_o this_o dispensation_n to_o make_v up_o a_o sweet_a harmony_n in_o this_o body_n that_o every_o member_n shall_v have_v its_o strength_n and_o every_o member_n shall_v have_v its_o proportion_n its_o member_n in_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n shall_v have_v its_o strength_n and_o its_o growth_n in_o proportion_n but_o then_o 3._o again_o three_o if_o you_o say_v that_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v such_o where_o shall_v we_o find_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o any_o if_o it_o work_v so_o i_o answer_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n do_v not_o work_v eminent_o in_o every_o operation_n that_o be_v put_v forth_o in_o every_o saint_n but_o one_o saint_n excel_v in_o one_o particular_a and_o another_o in_o another_o and_o herein_o be_v abundance_n of_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n i_o say_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n run_v in_o several_a vein_n in_o one_o christian_n it_o be_v more_o eminent_a in_o the_o vein_n or_o channel_n of_o faith_n in_o another_o christian_a there_o be_v the_o same_o life_n in_o the_o vein_n or_o channel_n of_o humiliation_n and_o self-denial_n and_o in_o another_o it_o run_v in_o the_o vein_n of_o prudence_n holy_a wisdom_n and_o activity_n so_o that_o you_o can_v say_v there_o be_v not_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o such_o and_o such_o because_o you_o do_v see_v a_o eminency_n in_o some_o particular_n which_o it_o may_v be_v you_o fasten_v upon_o why_o though_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v not_o eminent_a in_o that_o it_o run_v in_o another_o in_o such_o a_o vein_n as_o be_v as_o it_o be_v under_o ground_n as_o be_v not_o obvious_a to_o thy_o eye_n which_o thou_o see_v not_o nor_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o quest_n but_o you_o will_v say_v why_o be_v not_o every_o grace_n in_o its_o operation_n eminent_a in_o every_o saint_n and_o in_o every_o believer_n answ_n i_o answer_v first_o because_o the_o lord_n will_v maintain_v in_o this_o way_n a_o sweet_a communion_n with_o his_o saint_n the_o lord_n intend_v to_o maintain_v sweet_a communion_n with_o his_o saint_n he_o therefore_o give_v out_o to_o one_o one_o grace_n more_o eminent_a and_o to_o another_o another_z that_o so_o the_o eye_n may_v not_o say_v to_o the_o head_n i_o have_v no_o need_n of_o thou_o nor_o the_o hand_n to_o the_o foot_n say_v i_o have_v no_o need_n of_o thou_o so_o that_o every_o member_n shall_v have_v its_o proportion_n but_o if_o you_o look_v upon_o the_o best_a saint_n you_o will_v see_v how_o they_o come_v short_a of_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n how_o defective_a they_o be_v in_o this_o and_o that_o particular_a what_o need_v then_o have_v we_o to_o live_v upon_o impute_a righteousness_n and_o what_o need_n have_v we_o to_o keep_v in_o a_o continual_a dependence_n upon_o christ_n that_o so_o he_o may_v supply_v all_o our_o want_n out_o of_o his_o fullness_n 2._o second_o again_o the_o lord_n do_v withhold_v his_o hand_n in_o abundance_n of_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n if_o he_o shall_v give_v too_o much_o he_o know_v what_o poor_a weak_a creature_n we_o be_v and_o what_o poor_a weak_a vessel_n we_o be_v and_o if_o he_o shall_v pour_v in_o too_o much_o he_o know_v we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v it_o if_o you_o pour_v new_a wine_n into_o old_a bottle_n the_o bottle_n will_v break_v and_o the_o lord_n consider_v that_o we_o be_v old_a bottle_n and_o his_o new_a wine_n will_v break_v our_o old_a bottle_n we_o exalt_v above_o measure_n therefore_o it_o be_v to_o be_v mark_v he_o have_v a_o check_n but_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n do_v not_o thus_o appear_v in_o eminency_n in_o every_o saint_n object_n but_o some_o poor_a soul_n will_v say_v whatsoever_o there_o be_v in_o other_o i_o will_v not_o judge_v other_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n may_v be_v in_o his_o advancement_n he_o be_v advance_v it_o be_v his_o marriage-day_n or_o a_o day_n of_o coronation_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o cause_n of_o inordinate_a mourning_n and_o you_o that_o be_v parent_n that_o love_v your_o child_n never_o so_o dear_o you_o will_v be_v willing_a to_o part_v with_o they_o for_o their_o preferment_n though_o you_o marry_v they_o when_o it_o may_v be_v you_o shall_v enjoy_v little_a of_o they_o when_o they_o shall_v go_v hundred_o of_o mile_n from_o you_o you_o shall_v enjoy_v little_a of_o they_o but_o you_o will_v say_v it_o be_v to_o a_o man_n that_o
