he_o have_v give_v the_o name_n &_o privilege_n of_o his_o own_o son_n yet_o in_o very_a deed_n be_v the_o child_n of_o the_o devil_n sevenfold_a more_o than_o the_o heathen_a themselves_o who_o and_o sometime_o again_o as_o though_o he_o have_v forget_v they_o he_o seem_v to_o hide_v and_o to_o absent_v himself_o from_o they_o and_o suffer_v they_o to_o be_v assail_v with_o some_o grievous_a break_v forth_o into_o excessive_a laughter_n yet_o than_o their_o joy_n be_v but_o the_o fit_a as_o it_o be_v of_o a_o frantic_a or_o mad_a man_n they_o know_v not_o what_o they_o do_v and_o at_o length_n their_o sorrowful_a dump_n their_o trouble_a thought_n and_o distract_n care_n return_v again_o unto_o they_o unsent_a for_o they_o break_v off_o their_o laughter_n with_o a_o sigh_n and_o whole_a burn_a offering_n to_o serve_v thou_o as_o in_o body_n which_o thou_o have_v make_v for_o that_o end_n so_o especial_o in_o spirit_n and_o in_o truth_n so_o shall_v i_o not_o be_v reprove_v yea_o then_o thou_o will_v accept_v both_o of_o i_o and_o of_o all_o my_o sacrifice_n and_o be_v exceed_o gracious_a and_o merciful_a unto_o i_o above_o that_o i_o can_v expect_v or_o desire_v christian_n be_v willing_o to_o resign_v themselves_o and_o all_o that_o they_o enjoy_v to_o god_n will_n all_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o enjoy_v in_o this_o world_n be_v not_o our_o own_o but_o god_n he_o give_v they_o to_o we_o to_o use_v and_o at_o his_o pleasure_n he_o may_v call_v for_o they_o and_o cause_v we_o to_o restore_v they_o to_o he_o again_o since_o he_o alone_o have_v absolute_a right_n and_o interest_n in_o they_o while_o we_o have_v they_o we_o be_v to_o have_v a_o care_n to_o use_v they_o well_o and_o not_o to_o neglect_v they_o or_o to_o be_v regardless_o of_o they_o we_o ought_v to_o use_v they_o and_o yet_o not_o so_o to_o use_v they_o as_o if_o they_o be_v our_o own_o but_o lend_v unto_o we_o by_o another_o of_o who_o we_o have_v receive_v they_o when_o he_o take_v they_o from_o we_o we_o be_v willing_o to_o restore_v they_o and_o ready_o without_o any_o murmur_a or_o repine_v to_o part_v with_o they_o since_o they_o be_v but_o lend_v unto_o we_o for_o a_o time_n for_o our_o convenient_a or_o necessary_a use_n and_o be_v now_o call_v for_o again_o by_o the_o right_a owner_n of_o they_o so_o that_o to_o be_v unwilling_a to_o return_v they_o at_o his_o command_n be_v not_o neither_o aught_o to_o be_v otherwise_o esteem_v of_o we_o then_o as_o the_o usurp_a or_o violent_a detain_v of_o another_o man_n good_n against_o his_o will_n and_o pleasure_n even_o theft_n and_o robbery_n against_o the_o high_a what_o mean_v it_o they_o that_o many_o be_v so_o loath_a to_o restore_v the_o thing_n which_o god_n have_v give_v they_o the_o use_n of_o for_o a_o while_n and_o now_o require_v of_o they_o again_o what_o mean_v it_o that_o many_o be_v so_o grieve_v to_o part_n with_o those_o thing_n which_o the_o lord_n have_v lend_v they_o until_o such_o time_n as_o he_o shall_v call_v for_o they_o yea_o why_o be_v it_o that_o many_o complain_v so_o grievous_o as_o if_o they_o be_v great_o injure_v or_o have_v very_o hard_a measure_n offer_v unto_o they_o when_o the_o lord_n take_v from_o they_o their_o wife_n their_o child_n their_o friend_n their_o good_n their_o land_n live_n or_o their_o life_n itself_o be_v they_o their_o own_o and_o not_o god_n why_o then_o shall_v they_o sin_v against_o he_o by_o repine_v that_o they_o can_v keep_v they_o against_o his_o will_n have_v he_o give_v unto_o they_o the_o use_n of_o they_o thus_o long_o &_o do_v he_o now_o call_v for_o they_o and_o require_v they_o again_o of_o they_o why_o then_o shall_v they_o not_o with_o all_o willingness_n and_o thankfulness_n restore_v they_o acknowledge_v themselves_o much_o indebt_v unto_o he_o for_o the_o fruition_n of_o they_o and_o the_o benefit_n they_o have_v receive_v by_o they_o hitherto_o o_o lord_n thou_o have_v free_o and_o give_v i_o life_n &_o health_n friend_n and_o a_o competency_n of_o these_o earthly_a thing_n which_o in_o wisdom_n thou_o see_v to_o be_v convenient_a for_o i_o thou_o be_v the_o author_n and_o giver_n of_o they_o as_o of_o all_o other_o thing_n which_o be_v good_a while_o it_o please_v thou_o to_o continue_v they_o unto_o i_o for_o my_o use_n give_v i_o grace_n to_o use_v they_o sober_o in_o a_o sanctify_a manner_n so_o as_o may_v be_v most_o for_o thy_o glory_n and_o my_o comfort_n both_o here_o and_o hereafter_o when_o it_o shall_v please_v thou_o to_o take_v they_o away_o from_o i_o and_o to_o deprive_v i_o either_o of_o any_o or_o of_o all_o of_o they_o grant_v that_o i_o may_v with_o a_o willing_a mind_n and_o with_o a_o thankful_a heart_n return_v they_o again_o unto_o thou_o say_v with_o that_o faithful_a and_o constant_a servant_n of_o thou_o who_o thou_o have_v make_v a_o pattern_n and_o precedent_n unto_o i_o naked_a come_v i_o out_o of_o my_o mother_n womb_n bless_a be_v the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n forgive_a of_o other_o how_o necessary_a for_o all_o man_n he_o can_v never_o true_o and_o free_o forgive_v those_o that_o offend_v and_o injury_n he_o that_o have_v not_o first_o taste_v of_o the_o infinite_a love_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n towards_o he_o in_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o those_o manifold_a sin_n and_o innumerable_a and_o most_o grievous_a offence_n whereby_o he_o have_v displease_v and_o provoke_v he_o but_o he_o that_o have_v a_o true_a apprehension_n and_o a_o lively_a sense_n and_o feel_n hereof_o in_o his_o own_o soul_n
sever_v or_o separate_v from_o the_o other_o but_o that_o there_o will_v be_v a_o want_n find_v of_o the_o benefit_n which_o shall_v be_v receive_v thereby_o meditation_n be_v a_o preparative_n to_o prayer_n prayer_n the_o end_n of_o meditation_n if_o thou_o will_v pray_v effectual_o thou_o must_v begin_v with_o meditation_n if_o thou_o will_v meditate_v profitable_o and_o fruitful_o thou_o must_v end_v with_o prayer_n use_v both_o these_o duty_n as_o thou_o shall_v have_v occasion_n as_o if_o thy_o heart_n be_v well_o order_v and_o right_o affect_v as_o it_o ought_v thou_o can_v seldom_o or_o never_o want_v it_o and_o withal_o pray_v unto_o god_n for_o a_o blessing_n upon_o they_o and_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o thou_o shall_v find_v much_o sweetness_n and_o comfort_n in_o they_o and_o reap_v no_o small_a benefit_n by_o they_o meditation_n and_o prayer_n i_o will_v meditate_v in_o thy_o precept_n and_o consider_v thy_o way_n psalm_n 119.15_o teach_v i_o to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o please_v thou_o for_o thou_o be_v my_o god_n psalm_n 143.10_o if_o i_o regard_v wickedness_n in_o my_o heart_n the_o lord_n will_v not_o hear_v i_o psal_n 66.18_o the_o lord_n be_v near_o unto_o all_o that_o call_v upon_o he_o even_o to_o all_o that_o call_v upon_o he_o in_o truth_n psal_n 145.18_o enemy_n to_o devotion_n first_o sinful_a lust_n he_o that_o have_v a_o aguish_a fit_n upon_o he_o can_v taste_v nothing_o well_o but_o all_o thing_n even_o the_o most_o sweet_a and_o wholesome_a meat_n be_v unsavoury_a to_o he_o he_o can_v find_v no_o relish_n in_o they_o so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o man_n who_o soul_n be_v distemper_v through_o sin_n he_o find_v no_o sweetness_n no_o savour_n in_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n yea_o his_o soul_n do_v loath_a and_o abhor_v they_o though_o they_o be_v sweet_a than_o manna_n itself_o o_o lord_n keep_v i_o from_o this_o spiritual_a distemperature_n which_o of_o all_o other_o be_v most_o dangerous_a and_o grant_v that_o i_o may_v always_o delight_v in_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v please_v unto_o thou_o yea_o that_o i_o may_v find_v much_o sweetness_n in_o they_o even_o in_o meditation_n prayer_n and_o all_o other_o holy_a exercise_n which_o thou_o have_v prescribe_v in_o thy_o word_n that_o so_o my_o soul_n may_v live_v for_o ever_o 2_o worldly_a care_n the_o care_n of_o this_o world_n and_o the_o desire_n of_o these_o earthly_a vanity_n oh_o what_o snare_n they_o be_v to_o the_o soul_n and_o to_o the_o spirit_n of_o a_o man_n how_o many_o be_v take_v in_o they_o and_o so_o bring_v into_o a_o kind_n of_o thraldom_n &_o bondage_n what_o encumbrance_n be_v they_o unto_o they_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o good_a action_n how_o do_v they_o cool_v yea_o quench_v the_o holy_a motion_n the_o godly_a desire_n and_o purpose_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o hinder_v it_o from_o divine_a and_o heavenly_a meditation_n which_o otherwise_o it_o will_v relish_v far_o better_o and_o find_v much_o more_o sweetness_n and_o delight_n therein_o then_o now_o it_o do_v o_o my_o god_n preserve_v thou_o i_o both_o now_o and_o always_o from_o the_o inordinate_a and_o immoderate_a care_n of_o this_o evil_a world_n and_o from_o the_o excessive_a and_o unlawful_a desire_n and_o affection_n of_o all_o vain_a and_o transitory_a thing_n let_v i_o not_o be_v ensnare_v and_o entangle_v with_o they_o as_o other_o be_v let_v they_o not_o be_v any_o let_v or_o hindrance_n unto_o my_o soul_n to_o withdraw_v it_o from_o the_o more_o serious_a meditation_n of_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a thing_n or_o in_o any_o sort_n to_o cool_v my_o affection_n towards_o they_o or_o to_o cause_v i_o to_o take_v the_o less_o pleasure_n and_o delight_n in_o they_o or_o to_o be_v the_o more_o unfit_a to_o be_v conversant_a about_o they_o let_v they_o not_o so_o oppress_v my_o mind_n that_o i_o shall_v find_v less_o liberty_n and_o freedom_n of_o spirit_n in_o good_a thing_n or_o become_v more_o unapt_a for_o the_o performance_n of_o any_o duty_n of_o thy_o worship_n and_o service_n any_o holy_a or_o religious_a exercise_n which_o thou_o require_v of_o i_o but_o grant_v i_o beseech_v thou_o that_o see_v how_o deceitful_a this_o world_n be_v how_o vain_a all_o thing_n here_o below_o be_v i_o may_v daily_o be_v more_o and_o more_o wean_v from_o the_o love_n and_o desire_v of_o they_o yea_o may_v have_v thy_o love_n so_o shed_v into_o my_o heart_n that_o all_o my_o delight_n may_v be_v in_o thou_o all_o my_o affection_n set_v upon_o thou_o in_o such_o sort_n that_o all_o carnal_a and_o earthly_a thing_n which_o will_v withdraw_v i_o from_o thou_o and_o from_o the_o love_n of_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a thing_n may_v be_v bitter_a and_o unpleasant_a unto_o i_o and_o that_o i_o may_v serve_v thou_o with_o more_o chearefulnes_n and_o alacrity_n all_o my_o day_n to_o thy_o glory_n and_o to_o the_o increase_n of_o my_o happiness_n in_o thy_o kingdom_n 3_o satan_n suggestion_n that_o evil_a and_o envious_a spirit_n the_o enemy_n of_o all_o mankind_n never_o rest_v but_o seek_v incessant_o to_o cast_v ill_a motion_n and_o suggestion_n into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n and_o to_o draw_v away_o their_o mind_n from_o every_o good_a thing_n which_o they_o enterprise_n and_o take_v in_o hand_n he_o use_v all_o mean_n to_o make_v they_o faint_v in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n to_o cool_v their_o zeal_n to_o quench_v their_o spiritual_a devotion_n to_o hinder_v they_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o all_o good_a duty_n and_o religious_a exercise_n which_o may_v make_v for_o the_o increase_n of_o grace_n in_o they_o and_o to_o cause_v they_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a to_o fall_v from_o that_o purpose_n of_o heart_n and_o godly_a resolution_n which_o heretofore_o they_o have_v have_v to_o continue_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o to_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n which_o he_o have_v command_v yea_o no_o soon_o shall_v the_o good_a spirit_n inspire_v into_o they_o any_o good_a motion_n any_o holy_a desire_n but_o that_o wicked_a and_o envious_a one_o stand_v ready_a at_o hand_n will_v labour_v present_o to_o strangle_v they_o so_o that_o they_o shall_v never_o come_v to_o any_o effect_n but_o vanish_v away_o and_o leave_v the_o heart_n more_o hearden_v and_o less_o capable_a of_o goodness_n and_o of_o any_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a grace_n than_o ever_o it_o be_v before_o oh_o how_o close_o and_o how_o sly_o do_v he_o insinuate_v himself_o into_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n and_o deceive_v and_o delude_v they_o in_o this_o manner_n when_o they_o think_v little_a he_o be_v so_o near_o they_o or_o so_o busy_a in_o work_v they_o so_o great_a a_o mischief_n even_o that_o which_o if_o it_o be_v not_o careful_o prevent_v in_o time_n will_v be_v their_o utter_a ruin_n in_o the_o end_n o_o lord_n let_v i_o never_o give_v ear_n unto_o the_o deceitful_a enchantment_n and_o to_o the_o entice_a &_o dangerous_a charm_n of_o that_o subtle_a and_o wily_a serpent_n who_o be_v always_o hiss_v about_o i_o let_v i_o not_o once_o listen_v unto_o he_o nor_o yield_v unto_o any_o of_o his_o suggestion_n but_o always_o resist_v he_o in_o the_o first_o motion_n unto_o every_o sin_n whereunto_o he_o shall_v tempt_v i_o and_o whensoever_o that_o good_a spirit_n of_o thou_o shall_v speak_v inward_o and_o secret_o unto_o my_o soul_n and_o inspire_v any_o good_a thought_n any_o and_o body_n into_o hell_n for_o ever_o there_o to_o have_v their_o portion_n among_o the_o damn_a either_o man_n be_v atheist_n and_o think_v there_o be_v no_o god_n for_o they_o that_o believe_v that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n can_v not_o but_o know_v that_o his_o power_n be_v infinite_a and_o therefore_o must_v needs_o fear_v he_o more_o than_o any_o man_n who_o power_n be_v but_o finite_a when_o it_o be_v great_a or_o else_o they_o be_v marvelous_a desperate_a who_o though_o they_o know_v and_o will_v acknowledge_v the_o power_n and_o the_o fierceness_n of_o his_o wrath_n yet_o fear_v not_o the_o punishment_n and_o the_o horrible_a torment_n which_o he_o have_v threaten_v against_o they_o o_o lord_n let_v i_o not_o be_v either_o so_o blind_v or_o so_o hard-hearted_a as_o the_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a be_v let_v i_o always_o fear_v before_o thou_o and_o tremble_v at_o thy_o presence_n stand_v continual_o in_o awe_n of_o so_o great_a and_o glorious_a a_o majesty_n which_o and_o shroud_v themselves_o for_o fear_n and_o yet_o behold_v such_o be_v the_o corruption_n of_o man_n nature_n such_o be_v their_o stupidity_n that_o although_o they_o hear_v daily_a a_o great_a &_o more_o dreadful_a noise_n even_o the_o mighty_a and_o terrible_a voice_n of_o god_n which_o sound_v in_o his_o word_n and_o whereby_o he_o threaten_v they_o in_o most_o fearful_a manner_n not_o only_o with_o temporal_a judgement_n but_o also_o with_o eternal_a perdition_n and_o destruction_n yet_o they_o be_v scarce_o once_o move_v they_o fear_v not_o they_o do_v not_o quake_v and_o tremble_v but_o soothe_v up_o themselves_o in_o the_o wickedness_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o bless_v themselves_o in_o their_o sinful_a and_o ungodlie_a way_n think_v that_o all_o be_v well_o and_o dream_v of_o nothing_o but_o of_o peace_n and_o safety_n when_o their_o confusion_n be_v near_a and_o sudden_a destruction_n and_o desolation_n ready_a present_o to_o seize_v upon_o they_o o_o let_v it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o i_o &_o with_o all_o they_o that_o fear_v thy_o name_n o_o lord_n let_v i_o be_v touch_v &_o right_o affect_v with_o the_o consideration_n of_o thy_o great_a and_o glorious_a majesty_n when_o i_o behold_v thy_o wondrous_a and_o marvelous_a work_n how_o thou_o cast_v forth_o thy_o lightning_n unto_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n and_o thunder_v from_o heaven_n with_o a_o all_o diligence_n careful_o and_o conscionable_o to_o practice_v those_o thing_n which_o i_o have_v learn_v join_v to_o my_o knowledge_n virtue_n faith_n temperance_n patience_n godliness_n and_o unfeigned_a love_n and_o charity_n unto_o all_o man_n even_o my_o enemy_n and_o those_o that_o be_v most_o bitter_a towards_o i_o yea_o most_o wicked_o and_o malicious_o set_v against_o i_o that_o and_o yet_o be_v of_o a_o exceed_a corrupt_a mind_n and_o of_o a_o most_o unsound_a life_n knowledge_n be_v good_a and_o to_o be_v desire_v and_o seek_v for_o and_o that_o with_o diligence_n but_o yet_o good_a affection_n must_v be_v join_v with_o it_o and_o increase_v by_o it_o or_o else_o it_o will_v not_o be_v profitable_a but_o hurtful_a and_o dangerous_a make_v the_o owner_n of_o it_o rather_o worse_o then_o better_a it_o be_v a_o good_a thing_n to_o know_v much_o but_o it_o be_v better_a and_o more_o acceptable_a to_o god_n to_o affect_v the_o good_a thing_n we_o know_v that_o we_o may_v practice_v they_o and_o to_o dislike_v the_o evil_n we_o know_v that_o we_o may_v shun_v and_o avoid_v they_o god_n ever_o love_v and_o delight_v more_o in_o the_o truth_n and_o sincerity_n of_o the_o heart_n then_o in_o the_o bare_a speculation_n and_o fruitless_a apprehension_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o understanding_n part_n let_v it_o be_v my_o desire_n o_o lord_n my_o care_n and_o my_o earnest_a endeavour_n rather_o to_o live_v well_o then_o to_o know_v much_o let_v i_o labour_v for_o both_o since_o both_o be_v necessary_a yet_o always_o prefer_v this_o before_o the_o other_o through_o weakness_n and_o infirmity_n i_o be_o subject_a to_o fail_v most_o to_o help_v and_o to_o assist_v i_o through_o the_o powerful_a work_n of_o thy_o bless_a spirit_n without_o which_o i_o his_o desire_n and_o expectation_n and_o that_o they_o will_v quick_o vanish_v away_o and_o perish_v with_o the_o use_n of_o they_o o_o lord_n withdraw_v my_o heart_n i_o beseech_v thou_o daily_o more_o and_o more_o from_o the_o love_n of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o thing_n thereof_o see_v they_o be_v vain_a transitory_a and_o full_a of_o grief_n and_o vexation_n not_o yield_v that_o delight_n and_o contentment_n which_o they_o promise_v and_o make_v show_n of_o but_o rather_o much_o anguish_n and_o unquietnes_n of_o mind_n see_v they_o be_v a_o cause_n of_o such_o unlooked_a for_o
