be_v alienate_v from_o that_o life_n which_o give_v it_o forth_o yet_o thou_o be_v not_o to_o rest_v in_o any_o sense_n or_o savour_n of_o life_n that_o thou_o feel_v in_o the_o outward_a testimony_n but_o by_o the_o same_o thou_o be_v to_o be_v lead_v in_o into_o thy_o own_o heart_n and_o soul_n to_o wait_v for_o the_o arise_v and_o spring_v up_o of_o it_o within_o thyself_o for_o thou_o need_v frequent_v the_o assembly_n of_o god_n people_n where_o the_o lord_n be_v wait_v upon_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v preach_v and_o live_a worship_n prayer_n and_o thanksgiving_n be_v offer_v up_o unto_o he_o in_o spirit_n and_o in_o truth_n now_o the_o reason_n why_o i_o have_v not_o so_o particular_o mention_v these_o thing_n be_v not_o any_o wilful_a omission_n or_o neglect_n as_o if_o i_o life_n in_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o power_n in_o the_o light_n and_o in_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o then_o they_o do_v it_o in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n and_o of_o christ_n and_o in_o faith_n and_o so_o they_o do_v it_o aright_o and_o it_o be_v acceptable_a unto_o god_n and_o serviceable_a unto_o man_n there_o be_v one_o thing_n further_o which_o i_o can_v well_o omit_v and_o that_o be_v to_o answer_v a_o objection_n which_o may_v be_v strong_a in_o the_o mind_n of_o some_o who_o have_v not_o experience_n in_o the_o case_n that_o whereas_o i_o recommend_v so_o much_o the_o place_n of_o silence_n and_o of_o be_v so_o passive_a still_o and_o quiet_a to_o wait_v for_o and_o attend_v unto_o the_o divine_a work_n and_o move_v of_o god_n and_o of_o christ_n by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n in_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v like_o some_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o say_v that_o obj._n such_o a_o thing_n lead_v into_o a_o stupidity_n or_o lethargy_n of_o mind_n if_o not_o into_o something_o of_o flesh_n or_o spirit_n and_o by_o it_o thou_o be_v reprove_v of_o every_o sin_n in_o some_o measure_n yea_o and_o it_o work_v as_o fire_n against_o the_o briaâ—s_n and_o thorn_n against_o every_o sin_n in_o thou_o and_o the_o body_n and_o root_n of_o it_o though_o at_o first_o thou_o will_v not_o be_v so_o sensible_a of_o it_o as_o to_o have_v a_o particular_a observation_n of_o all_o thy_o sin_n yet_o thou_o wilâ—_n find_v it_o work_v against_o they_o all_o as_o it_o be_v in_o a_o heap_n spare_v none_o of_o they_o nor_o reconcileable_a to_o any_o of_o they_o so_o that_o what_o ever_o particular_a sin_n be_v bring_v under_o thy_o particular_a observation_n thou_o will_v find_v the_o appearance_n of_o christ_n against_o it_o as_o much_o as_o any_o but_o now_o the_o false_a god_n which_o a_o man_n make_v unto_o himself_o in_o his_o mind_n be_v very_o reconcileable_a to_o many_o sin_n which_o thou_o be_v plain_o convince_v to_o be_v sin_n and_o he_o can_v dwell_v with_o they_o and_o let_v they_o flourish_v and_o grow_v large_o in_o the_o heart_n and_o not_o be_v a_o devour_a fire_n against_o they_o yea_o the_o false_a and_o counterfeit_a god_n be_v a_o enemy_n tâ—_n no_o sin_n at_o all_o and_o will_v never_o reprove_v or_o dissuade_v thou_o from_o any_o sin_n but_o o_o 〈…〉_z thou_o and_o this_o be_v the_o hypocrite_n 〈◊〉_d and_o the_o high_a fly_v notionist_n god_n who_o they_o in_o some_o sort_n stand_v in_o awe_n to_o offend_v as_o to_o some_o â—ross_a outward_a act_n or_o even_o some_o inward_a also_o because_o they_o have_v shape_v he_o in_o such_o and_o such_o a_o form_n as_o be_v contrary_n in_o appearance_n to_o such_o and_o such_o sin_n but_o as_o for_o thou_o love_v he_o that_o reprove_v every_o sin_n in_o thought_n or_o desire_n word_n or_o work_n and_o be_v dreadful_a unto_o every_o transgressor_n more_o or_o less_o yea_o be_v as_o a_o devour_a fire_n against_o they_o for_o that_o be_v the_o true_a god_n now_o this_o appearance_n of_o god_n thou_o shall_v observe_v to_o manifest_v itself_o in_o a_o little_a small_a seed_n the_o least_o of_o all_o seed_n in_o the_o very_a inward_o of_o thy_o heart_n which_o be_v meek_a and_o holy_a and_o pure_a and_o harmless_a and_o be_v contrary_n unto_o nothing_o but_o sin_n can_v be_v reconcile_v with_o any_o thing_n save_o sin_n but_o with_o no_o sin_n in_o any_o measure_n i_o have_v find_v it_o with_o i_o the_o more_o to_o insist_v on_o this_o particular_a for_o that_o i_o certain_o know_v there_o be_v many_o who_o be_v woeful_o bewitch_v with_o a_o mystery_n of_o iniquity_n in_o relation_n to_o this_o matter_n be_v like_o capernanum_fw-la exalt_v to_o the_o heaven_n as_o it_o be_v in_o their_o notion_n about_o god_n so_o as_o to_o think_v they_o daily_o contemplate_v and_o enjoy_v he_o and_o yet_o it_o be_v but_o a_o idol_n and_o by_o the_o child_n of_o light_n they_o be_v see_v and_o feel_v to_o be_v it_o darkness_n and_o the_o seed_n be_v feel_v to_o suffer_v in_o they_o and_o to_o â—e_v in_o the_o very_a bond_n of_o death_n notwithstanding_o all_o their_o high_a and_o lofty_a imagination_n now_o if_o the_o seed_n be_v raise_v in_o thou_o so_o that_o the_o holy_a life_n and_o power_n thereof_o become_v form_v though_o but_o a_o little_a thou_o will_v feel_v it_o and_o its_o power_n as_o manifest_v to_o move_v stir_v and_o spring_n in_o thou_o as_o ever_o the_o mother_n feel_v the_o child_n to_o spring_v in_o her_o womb_n so_o that_o thou_o can_v no_o less_o doubt_v of_o the_o one_o than_o she_o can_v of_o the_o other_o and_o so_o by_o the_o stir_n and_o move_n thereof_o thou_o will_v begin_v to_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o spiritual_a refreshment_n and_o joy_n of_o the_o child_n of_o god_n chap._n viii_o wherein_o divers_a advertisement_n and_o caution_n be_v give_v unto_o the_o soul_n in_o relation_n unto_o its_o apply_v itself_o unto_o work_n or_o operative_a exercise_n inward_a or_o outward_a through_o the_o holy_a life_n and_o the_o power_n thereof_o we_o be_v his_o workmanship_n say_v the_o apostle_n create_v unto_o christ_n jesus_n unto_o good_a work_n that_o we_o shall_v walk_v in_o they_o so_o that_o the_o lord_n give_v not_o unto_o any_o man_n the_o be_v of_o a_o holy_a life_n with_o its_o power_n in_o vain_a or_o for_o no_o effect_n but_o that_o he_o shall_v make_v use_n of_o it_o and_o they_o to_o bring_v forth_o good_a work_n even_o as_o the_o husbandman_n plant_v his_o vine_n and_o other_o tree_n that_o they_o may_v bring_v forth_o fruit._n we_o must_v improve_v and_o make_v use_n of_o our_o master_n money_n to_o profit_v withal_o that_o our_o talon_n may_v increase_v to_o the_o honour_n of_o he_o who_o have_v give_v it_o unto_o we_o and_o to_o our_o own_o happiness_n and_o comfort_n
but_o conditional_o to_o wit_n upon_o their_o believe_v for_o they_o who_o believe_v receive_v power_n to_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n whereas_o the_o unbeliever_n want_v this_o power_n because_o of_o their_o unbelief_n and_o forasmuch_o as_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o all_o man_n to_o believe_v at_o such_o time_n when_o the_o lord_n do_v visit_v they_o and_o touch_v their_o heart_n by_o the_o gracious_a influence_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n therefore_o we_o do_v just_o say_v that_o all_o man_n may_v do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n according_a to_o the_o restriction_n aforesaid_a chap._n x._o of_o the_o great_a influence_n that_o the_o come_v of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o outward_a in_o his_o birth_n life_n doctrine_n work_n suffering_n death_n resurrection_n ascension_n glorification_n etc._n etc._n have_v upon_o our_o mortification_n to_o sin_n and_o regeneration_n unto_o holiness_n even_o unto_o perfection_n and_o after_o what_o manner_n we_o shall_v improve_v the_o same_o effectual_o in_o order_n thereunto_o great_a and_o excellent_a be_v the_o benefit_n which_o do_v come_v upon_o man_n through_o the_o come_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n even_o in_o the_o outward_a but_o through_o a_o spirit_n of_o deceit_n and_o hypocrisy_n which_o have_v deep_o enter_v the_o most_o of_o professor_n and_o leaven_v they_o great_a and_o woeful_a be_v the_o abuse_n which_o they_o have_v put_v both_o upon_o his_o outward_a come_n and_o the_o benefit_n thereof_o while_o they_o do_v both_o grievous_o misunderstand_v and_o misapply_v the_o end_n of_o his_o come_n for_o whereas_o the_o main_a and_o principle_n end_v of_o his_o come_n be_v to_o reconcile_v man_n unto_o god_n and_o make_v peace_n betwixt_o they_o through_o his_o purge_v their_o conscience_n from_o dead_a work_n take_v away_o the_o sin_n and_o pollution_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o deface_v and_o blot_v out_o that_o unholy_a image_n of_o satan_n beget_v in_o they_o through_o unrighteousness_n and_o indue_a they_o with_o the_o heavenly_a and_o righteous_a image_n of_o god_n they_o on_o the_o contrary_n have_v suppose_v or_o dream_v that_o his_o end_n in_o come_v be_v to_o reconcile_v they_o to_o god_n and_o justify_v they_o while_o remain_v in_o their_o sin_n yea_o and_o so_o far_o they_o have_v proceed_v herein_o as_o to_o imagine_v that_o there_o be_v no_o need_n of_o holiness_n at_o all_o for_o justification_n and_o reconciliation_n but_o only_o for_o make_v they_o meet_v for_o heaven_n as_o they_o term_v it_o whereby_o it_o will_v seem_v they_o suppose_v that_o whereas_o heaven_n can_v be_v at_o no_o peace_n with_o unholy_a man_n yet_o god_n can_v as_o if_o god_n be_v more_o reconcileable_a with_o iniquity_n than_o heaven_n be_v but_o sure_o neither_o heaven_n nor_o the_o god_n of_o heaven_n much_o less_o can_v ever_o be_v reconcile_v or_o at_o peace_n with_o unholiness_n or_o those_o who_o live_v in_o it_o now_o the_o ground_n of_o this_o their_o supposition_n be_v a_o unfound_a â—otion_n they_o have_v drunken_a in_o that_o christ_n be_v come_v or_o put_v in_o their_o stead_n to_o fulfil_v the_o law_n of_o god_n for_o they_o in_o his_o own_o person_n both_o active_o and_o passive_o by_o which_o they_o be_v whole_o justify_v â—n_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n through_o his_o satisfaction_n though_o they_o remain_v in_o much_o sinfulness_n and_o unholiness_n in_o their_o own_o particular_a but_o though_o we_o do_v true_o acknowledge_v the_o full_a and_o perfect_a satisfaction_n of_o christ_n unto_o the_o father_n both_o in_o his_o do_n and_o suffering_n yet_o we_o deny_v that_o notion_n of_o it_o as_o unsound_a and_o unscriptural_a for_o the_o true_a sense_n of_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o christ_n both_o as_o we_o read_v it_o outward_o in_o the_o scripture_n testimony_n and_o feel_v and_o know_v it_o inward_o in_o the_o work_n and_o testimony_n of_o his_o spirit_n light_n and_o life_n in_o our_o heart_n be_v after_o and_o according_a to_o the_o manner_n as_o follow_v i._o when_o man_n sin_v against_o god_n and_o become_v corrupt_a and_o unclean_a in_o his_o heart_n before_o he_o through_o transgession_n the_o peace_n betwixt_o god_n and_o he_o be_v break_v and_o so_o man_n who_o in_o his_o innocent_a state_n be_v justify_v and_o at_o peace_n with_o god_n now_o through_o his_o sin_n become_v unjustified_a and_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n kindle_v against_o he_o both_o in_o his_o soul_n and_o body_n in_o great_a measure_n ii_o this_o wrath_n of_o god_n will_v have_v burn_v in_o such_o a_o violent_a and_o forcible_a manner_n have_v not_o he_o provide_v a_o way_n in_o his_o infinite_a mercy_n in_o some_o measure_n to_o abate_v and_o qualify_v it_o that_o it_o will_v have_v sink_v man_n into_o endless_a and_o irrecoverable_a torment_n and_o misery_n but_o god_n prepare_v a_o way_n both_o to_o qualify_v this_o wrath_n and_o also_o in_o due_a time_n whole_o to_o quench_v it_o and_o bring_v man_n into_o perfect_a peace_n and_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n as_o at_o the_o beginning_n yea_o and_o to_o establish_v he_o therein_o for_o ever_o iii_o now_o the_o way_n and_o remedy_n he_o provide_v both_o for_o the_o qualify_a it_o at_o first_o and_o afterward_o for_o the_o total_a quench_n of_o it_o be_v the_o come_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n his_o only_o beget_v son_n in_o a_o holy_a seed_n conception_n and_o birth_n out_o of_o which_o shall_v spring_v such_o a_o gentle_a meek_a and_o qualify_a spirit_n and_o life_n that_o it_o shall_v stand_v up_o in_o the_o way_n betwixt_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o man_n first_o to_o abate_v and_o qualify_v the_o wrath_n towards_o man_n even_o while_o they_o be_v in_o their_o sin_n but_o not_o to_o remove_v it_o and_o that_o for_o a_o certain_a time_n or_o day_n of_o visitation_n give_v they_o of_o god_n to_o repent_v and_o come_v out_o of_o their_o sin_n and_o sinful_a nature_n and_o spirit_n into_o holiness_n and_o the_o nature_n and_o 〈◊〉_d thereof_o and_o then_o quite_o to_o remove_v and_o quench_v it_o at_o their_o be_v make_v free_a from_o sin_n anâ—_n perfect_v in_o holiness_n and_o true_o this_o great_a and_o unspeakable_a benefit_n from_o christ_n have_v all_o unholy_a man_n in_o the_o day_n of_o their_o visitation_n that_o through_o his_o sweet_a and_o quallify_a life_n the_o wrath_n of_o god_n be_v in_o a_o great_a measure_n bear_v up_o from_o fall_v upon_o they_o to_o the_o uttermost_a which_o if_o it_o do_v will_v instant_o sink_v they_o into_o the_o pit_n from_o whence_o there_o be_v no_o recovery_n nevertheless_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v upon_o all_o unholy_a man_n but_o through_o the_o meek_a life_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o holy_a seed_n it_o be_v great_o suspend_v or_o bear_v off_o iv._o now_o that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n may_v be_v the_o more_o universal_o and_o thorough_o a_o saviour_n unto_o man_n for_o his_o recovery_n out_o of_o the_o misery_n and_o bondage_n and_o vanity_n into_o which_o he_o have_v throw_v himself_o it_o please_v the_o father_n yea_o and_o the_o son_n both_o that_o he_o shall_v come_v to_o wit_n christ_n in_o a_o holy_a seed_n both_o world_n to_o himself_o and_o christ_n be_v manifest_a in_o the_o holy_a seed_n inward_o and_o so_o stand_v in_o the_o way_n to_o ward_v off_o the_o wrath_n from_o the_o sinner_n and_o unholy_a that_o it_o may_v not_o come_v upon_o they_o to_o the_o uttermost_a during_o the_o day_n of_o their_o visitation_n for_o even_o at_o man_n fall_n the_o seed_n of_o the_o woman_n be_v give_v not_o only_o to_o save_v and_o attain_v unto_o perfect_a peace_n and_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n in_o their_o soul_n yet_o not_o in_o unholiness_n but_o in_o depart_v therefrom_o and_o become_v holy_a and_o sanctify_a unto_o god_n now_o though_o from_o the_o beginning_n he_o be_v not_o outward_o come_v nevertheless_o his_o purpose_n of_o come_v outward_o be_v from_o the_o beginning_n and_o also_o he_o have_v a_o certain_a foreknowledge_n and_o sense_n of_o what_o he_o be_v to_o suffer_v and_o how_o he_o be_v to_o be_v deliver_v up_o
life_n through_o the_o burden_n and_o weight_n of_o man_n iniquity_n but_o how_o christ_n do_v suffer_v under_o the_o iniquity_n of_o man_n and_o the_o spirit_n and_o power_n thereof_o can_v never_o be_v understand_v in_o any_o true_a measure_n but_o by_o these_o alone_o who_o be_v come_v to_o be_v acquaint_v with_o a_o measure_n of_o his_o righteous_a life_n in_o their_o own_o particular_n and_o to_o know_v a_o measure_n of_o redemption_n from_o sin_n thereby_o such_o will_v feel_v how_o that_o righteous_a life_n of_o christ_n jesus_n suffer_v by_o sin_n and_o the_o spirit_n and_o power_n thereof_o so_o that_o many_o time_n we_o have_v feel_v the_o life_n of_o he_o in_o we_o to_o be_v deep_o smite_v and_o wound_v and_o deep_o to_o suffer_v through_o and_o by_o iniquity_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o it_o even_o in_o other_o and_o in_o a_o whole_a country_n and_o nation_n yea_o in_o some_o measure_n through_o the_o whole_a world_n the_o reason_n of_o which_o be_v because_o of_o that_o deep_a and_o near_a sympathy_n that_o his_o life_n in_o the_o saint_n have_v with_o the_o seed_n of_o that_o life_n that_o be_v oppress_v in_o other_o till_o it_o be_v raise_v so_o that_o many_o in_o who_o this_o righteous_a life_n be_v raise_v to_o reign_v in_o perfect_a dominion_n over_o all_o its_o contrary_a in_o their_o own_o particular_n yet_o witness_v many_o time_n its_o deep_a suffering_n through_o its_o sympathy_n with_o that_o seed_n of_o its_o own_o nature_n oppress_v and_o murder_v in_o other_o so_o that_o indeed_o upon_o the_o matter_n this_o righteous_a life_n in_o none_o of_o the_o saint_n will_v be_v whole_o deliver_v from_o its_o suffering_n till_o that_o of_o its_o own_o nature_n over_o all_o the_o world_n be_v raise_v up_o in_o all_o heart_n to_o reign_v with_o it_o in_o dominion_n either_o in_o full_a love_n or_o wrath_n and_o true_o these_o deep_a suffering_n of_o christ_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o man_n iniquity_n real_o feel_v and_o witness_v by_o he_o as_o in_o the_o garden_n and_o on_o the_o cross_n etc._n etc._n i_o find_v the_o professor_n know_v little_a or_o nothing_o of_o for_o they_o conceive_v not_o that_o christ_n suffer_v any_o other_o way_n by_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n lay_v on_o he_o then_o in_o that_o he_o suffer_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n that_o be_v due_a to_o man_n for_o sin_n and_o so_o they_o understand_v his_o bear_v our_o sin_n to_o be_v only_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n he_o do_v bear_v which_o be_v not_o so_o for_o he_o suffer_v much_o more_o deep_o by_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o spirit_n thereof_o because_o of_o that_o great_a and_o implacable_a contrariety_n and_o enmity_n which_o sin_n and_o the_o spirit_n thereof_o have_v against_o his_o tender_a life_n which_o at_o that_o time_n have_v muster_v up_o all_o its_o force_n against_o he_o the_o lord_n permit_v it_o so_o to_o be_v that_o by_o his_o patient_a and_o meek_a suffering_n he_o may_v overcome_v it_o as_o indeed_o he_o do_v and_o even_o upon_o the_o cross_n triumph_v over_o it_o and_o give_v the_o spirit_n of_o transgression_n the_o great_a blow_n and_o wound_n that_o ever_o it_o get_v which_o shall_v in_o due_a time_n by_o the_o virtue_n and_o power_n of_o his_o suffering_n be_v utter_o slay_v and_o extinguish_v in_o the_o earth_n and_o it_o fill_v with_o his_o holy_a and_o righteous_a spirit_n and_o this_o spirit_n of_o iniquity_n wrought_v what_o it_o can_v so_o to_o eclipse_n and_o vail_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n from_o his_o righteous_a soul_n as_o to_o take_v away_o that_o comfort_n and_o joy_n from_o he_o which_o at_o other_o time_n he_o have_v yet_o his_o faith_n pierce_v through_o this_o cloud_n that_o it_o do_v not_o overcome_v he_o but_o he_o overcome_v it_o and_o signify_v his_o faith_n in_o god_n say_v my_o god_n my_o god_n why_o have_v thou_o forsake_v i_o which_o respect_v that_o sensible_a joy_n and_o comfort_n yet_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o this_o deep_a trial_n the_o father_n be_v with_o he_o in_o love_n and_o in_o the_o power_n and_o virtue_n of_o that_o love_n the_o wrath_n become_v mitigate_v and_o qualify_v towards_o man_n and_o to_o speak_v proper_o the_o wrath_n be_v indeed_o against_o man_n but_o never_o on_o any_o account_n direct_o against_o christ_n who_o do_v indeed_o intervene_v and_o intermediate_v betwixt_o it_o and_o we_o to_o bear_v it_o off_o and_o qualify_v it_o as_o be_v abovesaid_a yet_o he_o can_v never_o suffer_v it_o as_o the_o damn_a do_v for_o he_o qualify_v it_o both_o in_o the_o father_n love_n and_o in_o his_o own_o but_o the_o wrath_n which_o the_o damn_a suffer_v have_v no_o such_o qualification_n and_o true_o we_o can_v judge_v that_o the_o father_n be_v to_o speak_v proper_o offend_v or_o displease_v with_o he_o nay_o not_o on_o our_o account_n nor_o do_v the_o scripture_n speak_v any_o thing_n so_o only_o it_o please_v the_o father_n thus_o to_o try_v he_o and_o make_v he_o perfect_a thus_o by_o suffering_n to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v overcome_v sin_n and_o the_o spirit_n thereof_o in_o the_o more_o glory_n and_o may_v be_v the_o more_o fit_v to_o help_v they_o that_o be_v under_o trial_n as_o be_v touch_v with_o the_o feel_n of_o our_o infirmity_n four_o be_v present_v in_o his_o spirit_n as_o aforesaid_a they_o have_v also_o great_a influence_n to_o raise_v in_o our_o soul_n most_o fervent_a breathe_n and_o supplication_n unto_o the_o lord_n not_o only_o for_o his_o pardon_v and_o forgive_a grace_n for_o and_o because_o of_o his_o son_n bloodshed_n his_o suffering_n and_o death_n etc._n etc._n by_o which_o he_o procure_v or_o purchase_v it_o but_o also_o for_o his_o sanctify_a and_o mortify_v grace_n even_o for_o a_o abundant_a measure_n of_o the_o life_n and_o spirit_n of_o grace_n whereby_o we_o may_v be_v enable_v to_o die_v perfect_o unto_o sin_n and_o live_v unto_o god_n in_o perfection_n of_o holiness_n so_o thâ—t_v the_o soul_n may_v strong_o plead_v with_o the_o lord_n upon_o the_o account_n of_o christ_n that_o he_o may_v pour_v forth_o abundant_o of_o his_o grace_n life_n light_n and_o spirit_n because_o that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n have_v purchase_v it_o abundant_o and_o have_v open_v the_o fountain_n of_o the_o father_n love_n abundant_o by_o his_o obedience_n and_o righteousness_n to_o the_o end_n that_o all_o soul_n may_v come_v and_o draw_v out_o of_o that_o fullness_n of_o he_o which_o he_o have_v purchase_v and_o be_v in_o he_o even_o grace_n for_o grace_n joh._n 1.16_o both_o to_o justify_v and_o sanctify_v and_o as_o much_o the_o one_o as_o the_o other_o v._o also_o these_o thing_n present_v in_o the_o spirit_n as_o aforesaid_a and_o in_o and_o thereby_o apply_v to_o the_o soul_n become_v very_o strong_a and_o much_o ease_v and_o refresh_v and_o delight_v in_o its_o become_a holy_a as_o ever_o it_o be_v former_o grieve_v and_o burden_v with_o its_o iniquity_n vi_o our_o bless_a lord_n in_o his_o outward_a come_n life_n and_o way_n of_o conversation_n doctrine_n suffering_n and_o death_n etc._n etc._n be_v a_o most_o noble_a and_o perfect_a example_n unto_o we_o even_o the_o best_a that_o ever_o outward_o be_v be_v or_o shall_v be_v that_o we_o may_v imitate_v his_o virtue_n and_o follow_v his_o step_n in_o all_o godliness_n temperance_n and_o righteousness_n who_o teach_v we_o most_o excellent_a document_n and_o instruction_n of_o a_o holy_a life_n both_o in_o doctrine_n and_o example_n and_o seal_v the_o same_o with_o his_o most_o holy_a and_o bless_a suffering_n who_o know_v no_o sin_n yet_o so_o willing_o
there_o be_v require_v a_o inward_a spring_n and_o power_n of_o the_o same_o life_n of_o christ_n by_o which_o he_o do_v these_o thing_n to_o enable_v they_o to_o follow_v his_o example_n and_o all_o imitation_n without_o the_o soul_n attain_v to_o be_v endue_v with_o this_o life_n which_o it_o attain_v unto_o through_o the_o arise_v of_o the_o holy_a seed_n in_o it_o be_v as_o if_o a_o man_n will_v by_o much_o pain_n set_v himself_o to_o mount_v up_o towards_o heaven_n and_o fly_v through_o the_o midst_n of_o it_o like_o a_o eagle_n or_o bird_n of_o the_o air_n which_o be_v impossible_a for_o he_o to_o do_v even_o so_o as_o impossible_a be_v it_o for_o he_o to_o follow_v christ_n in_o his_o heavenly_a virtue_n do_n and_o suffering_n but_o by_o be_v endue_v with_o a_o measure_n of_o his_o heavenly_a life_n and_o the_o power_n thereof_o which_o be_v as_o wing_n whereby_o the_o soul_n may_v indeed_o mount_v up_o as_o a_o eagle_n and_o follow_v christ_n fly_v with_o he_o through_o unto_o which_o seed_n they_o shall_v give_v the_o most_o inward_a of_o their_o heart_n as_o a_o ground_n for_o it_o to_o grow_v and_o spring_v up_o in_o abondon_v and_o forsake_v all_o those_o thing_n which_o hinder_v its_o arise_v whence_o then_o in_o due_a time_n such_o a_o measure_n of_o light_n and_o life_n arise_v therein_o as_o give_v they_o both_o true_o to_o know_v christ_n and_o to_o follow_v he_o george_n keith_n how_o to_o discern_v the_o conviction_n that_o proceed_v from_o the_o light_n of_o faith_n or_o divine_a principle_n in_o we_o from_o those_o that_o proceed_v from_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n or_o mere_a natural_a and_o humane_a reason_n assist_v by_o argument_n draw_v from_o scripture_n this_o question_n i_o find_v weighty_a on_o my_o heart_n to_o answer_v for_o the_o sake_n of_o some_o who_o mind_n through_o the_o subtle_a work_n of_o the_o enemy_n may_v be_v perplex_v with_o the_o same_o as_o my_o mind_n be_v for_o a_o considerable_a time_n after_o i_o be_v in_o great_a measure_n convince_v of_o the_o truth_n the_o enemy_n of_o my_o soul_n do_v exceed_o work_v in_o i_o to_o cause_v i_o to_o believe_v that_o i_o be_v still_o but_o where_o former_o i_o have_v be_v to_o wit_n that_o although_o i_o have_v change_v my_o judgement_n concern_v many_o thing_n yet_o the_o principle_n that_o sway_v my_o judgement_n be_v still_o but_o the_o natural_a principle_n help_v with_o scripture_n argument_n and_o so_o my_o faith_n touch_v these_o thing_n be_v but_o mere_o humane_a and_o natural_a not_o divine_a and_o supernatural_a and_o consequent_o be_v nothing_o but_o opinion_n still_o and_o that_o i_o be_v still_o but_o a_o natural_a man_n and_o no_o true_a believer_n and_o that_o though_o i_o shall_v join_v with_o the_o people_n of_o god_n who_o have_v the_o true_a divine_a faith_n and_o shall_v do_v the_o thing_n that_o they_o do_v i_o can_v not_o be_v accept_v of_o god_n my_o obedience_n not_o proceed_v from_o the_o true_a divine_a faith_n which_o be_v the_o effect_n of_o the_o true_a divine_a light_n nor_o have_v receive_v the_o true_a divine_a call_n this_o objection_n do_v so_o trouble_v perplex_v and_o disquiet_v i_o through_o the_o work_n of_o satan_n as_o it_o be_v under_o ground_n and_o hide_v himself_o and_o his_o design_n from_o i_o that_o none_o but_o the_o lord_n alone_o do_v or_o can_v know_v the_o inward_a sense_n and_o feeling_n through_o a_o live_a growth_n in_o the_o truth_n for_o indeed_o no_o thing_n in_o the_o whole_a universe_n do_v more_o clear_o appear_v to_o be_v of_o a_o differ_a nature_n unto_o those_o who_o have_v the_o spiritual_a sense_n raise_v and_o open_v in_o they_o than_o the_o two_o aforesaid_a principle_n or_o light_n which_o differ_v as_o wide_o as_o heaven_n and_o earth_n for_o the_o one_o be_v of_o the_o earth_n earthly_a the_o other_o be_v of_o heaven_n heavenly_a the_o one_o be_v of_o the_o first_o adam_n the_o other_o be_v of_o the_o second_o adam_n jesus_n christ_n yea_o the_o one_o be_v mere_o humane_a and_o natural_a the_o other_o be_v pure_o divine_a and_o supernatural_a the_o cause_n then_o of_o the_o great_a difficulty_n to_o discern_v betwixt_o these_o two_o principle_n and_o their_o respective_a operation_n be_v that_o darkness_n and_o confusion_n that_o be_v over_o the_o heart_n and_o understand_n of_o those_o who_o be_v but_o first_o convince_v of_o the_o truth_n and_o not_o as_o yet_o real_o so_o convert_v unto_o it_o as_o to_o be_v leaven_v by_o the_o power_n of_o it_o and_o transform_v into_o its_o nature_n yea_o after_o some_o beginning_n of_o true_a conversion_n wrought_v in_o the_o soul_n the_o difficulty_n do_v in_o some_o measure_n still_o remain_v but_o not_o so_o great_a as_o formerly_z the_o great_a difficulty_n therefore_o belong_v unto_o those_o only_a who_o be_v but_o beginner_n and_o beginning_n to_o travel_v out_o of_o egypt_n and_o babylon_n and_o sodom_n into_o the_o holy_a land_n the_o land_n of_o the_o live_n and_o the_o holy_a hill_n of_o zion_n with_o their_o face_n thitherwards_o to_o who_o also_o it_o be_v a_o great_a difficulty_n how_o to_o distinguish_v not_o only_o betwixt_o the_o naturals_n understanding_n and_o the_o divine_a light_n of_o faith_n in_o they_o but_o to_o distinguish_v betwixt_o the_o true_a divine_a light_n and_o satan_n transform_v himself_o into_o the_o similitude_n of_o a_o angel_n of_o light_n in_o all_o which_o notwithstanding_o the_o difficulty_n be_v not_o so_o great_a as_o the_o enemy_n of_o the_o soul_n do_v represent_v it_o to_o be_v now_o to_o help_v any_o distress_a or_o perplex_a soul_n that_o may_v be_v in_o doubt_n concern_v this_o thing_n to_o such_o i_o say_v since_o thou_o be_v real_o convince_v that_o god_n have_v give_v a_o measure_n of_o the_o true_a divine_a light_n of_o his_o son_n christ_n jesus_n unto_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n and_o consequent_o unto_o thou_o for_o to_o such_o only_a at_o present_a do_v i_o write_v who_o be_v convince_v of_o this_o truth_n but_o do_v question_v the_o nature_n of_o their_o convincement_n why_o shall_v thou_o question_v that_o thy_o convincement_n do_v only_o proceed_v from_o the_o natural_a light_n and_o mere_a natural_a understanding_n of_o thy_o soul_n as_o influence_v by_o scripture_n argument_n and_o other_o outward_a help_n and_o not_o also_o from_o the_o divine_a principle_n of_o the_o light_n life_n and_o spirit_n of_o christ_n jesus_n
for_o certain_o this_o divine_a principle_n which_o be_v in_o thou_o be_v not_o altogether_o idle_a or_o without_o operation_n it_o be_v of_o a_o most_o active_a or_o operative_a nature_n even_o as_o fire_n and_o light_n in_o the_o outward_a can_v the_o outward_a sun_n shine_v and_o enlighten_v the_o earth_n and_o have_v no_o operation_n nor_o influence_n upon_o it_o or_o can_v the_o fire_n burn_v and_o have_v no_o operation_n or_o influence_n upon_o what_o be_v next_o unto_o it_o nay_o sure_o and_o therefore_o no_o more_o can_v this_o divine_a principle_n and_o light_n be_v in_o any_o soul_n but_o it_o must_v certain_o and_o infallible_o have_v some_o influence_n and_o operation_n upon_o that_o soul_n in_o who_o it_o be_v and_o that_o in_o order_n to_o salvation_n who_o day_n of_o visitation_n be_v not_o expire_v and_o the_o most_o proper_a operation_n of_o it_o in_o the_o first_o place_n be_v to_o convince_v the_o soul_n of_o truth_n i_o mean_v of_o somewhat_o of_o the_o truth_n of_o somewhat_o of_o god_n and_o of_o his_o mind_n and_o will_n of_o what_o he_o do_v accept_v and_o be_v well_o please_v with_o and_o what_o he_o do_v reject_v and_o abhor_v the_o word_n of_o god_n say_v the_o apostle_n heb._n 4.12_o be_v live_v and_o powerful_a or_o operative_a and_o sharp_a than_o any_o two_o edge_a sword_n pierce_v even_o to_o the_o divide_v asunder_o of_o soul_n and_o spirit_n and_o of_o the_o joint_n and_o marrow_n and_o be_v a_o discerner_n judge_n or_o reprover_n of_o the_o thought_n and_o intent_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o this_o word_n be_v in_o all_o even_o in_o the_o mouth_n and_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o every_o man_n and_o be_v that_o word_n of_o faith_n as_o paul_n do_v expound_v it_o rom._n 10.8_o now_o if_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o faith_n it_o be_v also_o the_o light_n of_o faith_n for_o in_o that_o word_n be_v life_n and_o the_o life_n be_v the_o light_n of_o man_n and_o this_o be_v the_o true_a light_n that_o do_v lighten_v every_o man_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n as_o john_n declare_v 1.9_o now_o mark_v the_o word_n lighten_v which_o do_v import_v its_o active_a and_o operative_a influence_n and_o virtue_n in_o all_o man_n in_o some_o measure_n or_o degree_n real_o to_o convince_v they_o and_o although_o there_o be_v great_a darkness_n over_o the_o heart_n and_o soul_n of_o all_o unconverted_a man_n and_o woman_n that_o they_o be_v say_v to_o be_v darkness_n yet_o as_o john_n have_v declare_v the_o light_n shine_v in_o darkness_n although_o the_o darkness_n comprehend_v it_o not_o 1.5_o so_o the_o light_n not_o only_o be_v in_o the_o darkness_n but_o it_o shine_v in_o the_o darkness_n and_o work_v against_o the_o darkness_n to_o reveal_v it_o and_o remove_v it_o even_o as_o the_o darkness_n do_v work_v in_o the_o soul_n to_o hide_v and_o obscure_v the_o light_n and_o as_o it_o be_v to_o extinguish_v and_o quench_v it_o in_o the_o soul_n and_o it_o be_v a_o most_o absurd_a thing_n to_o acknowledge_v that_o the_o natural_a principle_n have_v its_o operation_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o be_v not_o without_o its_o influence_n and_o force_n to_o move_v and_o act_v the_o soul_n as_o also_o that_o the_o principle_n of_o darkness_n to_o wit_n the_o diabolical_a or_o hellish_a principle_n even_o the_o very_a spirit_n of_o satan_n have_v its_o operation_n and_o influence_n in_o all_o man_n in_o who_o it_o be_v and_o yet_o to_o deny_v that_o this_o divine_a principle_n that_o be_v in_o nature_n more_o powerful_a and_o more_o operative_a than_o either_o of_o the_o other_o two_o have_v any_o influence_n or_o operation_n in_o they_o at_o all_o and_o this_o i_o will_v have_v thou_o also_o to_o consider_v that_o it_o please_v god_n in_o his_o great_a condescension_n many_o time_n together_o with_o his_o divine_a light_n and_o spirit_n in_o thy_o soul_n to_o make_v use_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o argument_n draw_v therefrom_o make_v they_o of_o service_n in_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o divine_a light_n and_o spirit_n as_o also_o to_o make_v use_n of_o thy_o own_o natural_a understanding_n and_o the_o natural_a principle_n or_o light_n by_o shine_v upon_o it_o and_o raise_v up_o in_o it_o pure_a and_o holy_a conviction_n and_o open_n of_o truth_n together_o with_o pure_a and_o holy_a desire_n in_o the_o soul_n which_o as_o they_o be_v entertain_v become_v a_o true_a beginning_n of_o conversion_n in_o that_o soul_n but_o the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v not_o one_o and_o the_o same_o always_o to_o the_o soul_n in_o this_o state_n for_o sometime_o as_o be_v say_v he_o make_v use_v of_o the_o natural_a principle_n itself_o to_o wit_n the_o natural_a understanding_n and_o reason_n of_o man_n by_o shine_v upon_o it_o in_o a_o more_o active_a way_n and_o manner_n so_o as_o it_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o natural_a principle_n itself_o help_v with_o scripture_n argument_n and_o reason_n or_o some_o outward_a help_n that_o do_v convince_v the_o soul_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o it_o be_v force_v to_o acknowledge_v to_o be_v true_a while_o yet_o it_o be_v divine_a light_n work_v in_o the_o soul_n more_o secret_o and_o hidden_o that_o have_v the_o main_a stroke_n and_o hand_n in_o the_o business_n at_o other_o time_n the_o divine_a light_n appear_v more_o immediate_o in_o the_o soul_n and_o more_o open_o and_o scarce_o at_o all_o make_v use_v of_o the_o natural_a principle_n or_o understanding_n further_a than_o in_o a_o passive_a way_n as_o when_o the_o eye_n look_v towards_o a_o object_n or_o as_o the_o ear_n hear_v a_o voice_n or_o sound_n wherein_o the_o soul_n be_v rather_o passive_a than_o active_a and_o sometime_o all_o the_o natural_a power_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v draw_v into_o a_o deep_a silence_n by_o the_o mighty_a and_o yet_o secret_a work_n of_o the_o power_n of_o the_o divine_a principle_n and_o light_n so_o that_o the_o soul_n by_o none_o of_o its_o natural_a or_o humane_a power_n or_o faculty_n do_v apprehend_v what_o be_v inward_o reveal_v in_o it_o by_o the_o divine_a light_n but_o they_o all_o be_v silence_v bind_v lock_v up_o and_o as_o it_o be_v make_v asleep_a both_o imagination_n and_o reason_n or_o whatever_o else_o can_v be_v call_v a_o natural_a or_o humane_a faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v whole_o suspend_v and_o lay_v by_o as_o of_o no_o present_a use_n and_o the_o soul_n as_o it_o be_v whole_o dead_a for_o that_o present_a time_n unto_o they_o all_o as_o so_o many_o dead_a member_n the_o divine_a light_n and_o spirit_n do_v raise_v up_o and_o awaken_v in_o that_o soul_n a_o new_a sense_n and_o power_n of_o discern_v of_o which_o it_o former_o have_v no_o experience_n or_o at_o lest_o make_v no_o reflection_n upon_o the_o same_o which_o be_v the_o spiritual_a sensation_n of_o god_n and_o divine_a thing_n as_o inward_o reveal_v by_o the_o divine_a light_n but_o this_o kind_n of_o experience_n be_v more_o rare_a to_o new_a beginner_n and_o to_o who_o it_o be_v give_v be_v a_o most_o singular_a and_o choice_a mercy_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n which_o yet_o be_v most_o ordinary_a to_o all_o those_o who_o in_o any_o considerable_a measure_n be_v true_o convert_v unto_o the_o truth_n and_o leaven_v into_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o and_o if_o it_o shall_v please_v god_n at_o any_o time_n to_o give_v thou_o such_o a_o experience_n who_o be_v not_o yet_o so_o considerable_o convert_v unto_o the_o truth_n thou_o be_v to_o receive_v it_o as_o a_o singular_a favour_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n but_o if_o it_o be_v deny_v at_o present_a unto_o thou_o god_n not_o judge_v thou_o worthy_a of_o so_o high_a a_o favour_n thou_o oughte_v to_o be_v content_a with_o that_o other_o way_n and_o such_o a_o convincement_n be_v a_o true_a divine_a and_o spiritual_a convincement_n proceed_v original_o and_o principal_o from_o the_o true_a divine_a light_n and_o spirit_n of_o faith_n and_o there_o be_v virtue_n sufficient_a in_o that_o which_o do_v thus_o convince_v thou_o to_o enable_v thou_o to_o believe_v and_o join_v unto_o it_o and_o to_o obey_v its_o requiring_n according_a to_o the_o present_a measure_n and_o that_o be_v a_o true_a sufficient_a divine_a call_n for_o the_o present_a which_o if_o thou_o do_v slight_a or_o neglect_v in_o expectation_n of_o a_o great_a or_o more_o clear_a thou_o do_v tempt_v the_o lord_n and_o provoke_v his_o holy_a spirit_n moreover_o i_o will_v have_v thou_o to_o know_v that_o thou_o ought_v not_o to_o expect_v that_o measure_n or_o degree_n of_o clearness_n or_o clear_a and_o distinct_a discern_v as_o perhaps_o thy_o own_o mind_n do_v judge_v to_o be_v requisite_a god_n be_v wise_a than_o thou_o and_o do_v better_a know_v what_o be_v fit_a for_o thou_o than_o thou_o do_v and_o indeed_o this_o be_v no_o small_a engine_n
i_o shall_v be_v turn_v but_o now_o many_o when_o the_o lord_n touch_v they_o and_o by_o his_o touch_n infuse_v a_o certain_a secret_a virtue_n sufficient_a to_o turn_v they_o or_o whereby_o they_o may_v turn_v yea_o when_o he_o draw_v and_o pull_v they_o very_o sensible_o do_v resist_v and_o continue_v in_o their_o aversion_n and_o of_o such_o the_o scripture_n say_v they_o draw_v back_o and_o thou_o will_v be_v affect_v if_o the_o tender_a and_o most_o sensible_a part_n of_o thy_o outward_a body_n be_v hold_v close_o unto_o a_o burn_a flame_n even_o such_o sensible_a and_o grievous_a pain_n will_v thou_o find_v inward_o for_o indeed_o thy_o soul_n dwell_v as_o real_o in_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o be_v unite_v with_o it_o as_o it_o do_v in_o the_o outward_a body_n therefore_o and_o real_a practice_n of_o religion_n but_o a_o mere_a counterfeit_a formality_n and_o show_n or_o imitation_n of_o these_o thing_n for_o true_a prayer_n and_o thanksgiving_n can_v only_o common_o proceed_v from_o the_o true_a and_o real_a power_n of_o a_o holy_a life_n even_o as_o sing_v and_o write_v natural_o can_v only_o proceed_v from_o the_o power_n of_o a_o natural_a life_n and_o beside_o they_o most_o lamentable_o cheat_v their_o own_o soul_n for_o by_o these_o and_o such_o like_a operative_a exercise_n and_o practice_n which_o be_v but_o hypocritical_a formality_n and_o show_n as_o be_v say_v and_o through_o their_o continuance_n therein_o they_o acquire_v a_o certain_a natural_a habit_n or_o disposition_n more_o and_o more_o and_o easy_o and_o fine_o to_o perform_v they_o which_o natural_a habit_n they_o set_v up_o in_o their_o heart_n as_o it_o be_v as_o the_o great_a power_n of_o god_n or_o godliness_n and_o many_o no_o doubt_n apprehend_v it_o to_o be_v so_o so_o that_o when_o at_o any_o time_n they_o be_v act_v or_o enable_v to_o perform_v such_o and_o the_o like_a exercise_n somewhat_o more_o fine_o and_o easy_o than_o at_o first_o and_o with_o some_o understanding_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n which_o will_v seem_v unto_o they_o as_o divine_a contemplation_n and_o act_n of_o true_a adoration_n also_o by_o the_o same_o the_o affection_n will_v be_v stir_v sometime_o great_o and_o as_o it_o be_v a_o fire_n kindle_v in_o they_o yet_o it_o be_v but_o the_o spark_n of_o their_o own_o kindle_v and_o not_o that_o true_a divine_a and_o sacred_a fire_n aforemention_v which_o come_v down_o from_o heaven_n however_o it_o may_v appear_v to_o they_o so_o to_o be_v such_o man_n be_v not_o unfit_o by_o some_o call_v habitualistae_fw-la or_o habitualist_n who_o go_v about_o to_o frame_v or_o form_n unto_o themselves_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n whereby_o to_o perform_v holy_a exercise_n through_o work_v themselves_o into_o a_o habit_n by_o such_o counterfeit_a and_o hypocritical_a action_n as_o aforesaid_a but_o true_a and_o real_a holiness_n be_v not_o attain_v unto_o by_o the_o frequent_a work_n though_o never_o so_o sublime_a of_o the_o mere_a natural_a power_n of_o the_o soul_n neither_o be_v it_o a_o habit_n produce_v of_o these_o work_n but_o be_v a_o spiritual_a and_o supernatural_a power_n spring_v up_o from_o the_o divine_a aforesaid_a step_n of_o conversion_n and_o continuance_n therein_o in_o passiveness_n and_o forbearance_n and_o so_o whether_o he_o have_v attain_v unto_o any_o true_a beginning_n of_o the_o divine_a and_o holy_a life_n and_o the_o power_n thereof_o and_o that_o before_o he_o enter_v upon_o other_o operative_a exercise_n because_o that_o unless_o in_o some_o measure_n he_o have_v true_o pass_v through_o these_o step_n he_o can_v perform_v any_o work_n right_o and_o acceptable_o unto_o god_n and_o this_o examination_n and_o reflection_n be_v the_o more_o needful_a for_o that_o even_o these_o step_n may_v be_v counterfeit_v no_o less_o than_o other_o thing_n a_o soul_n may_v even_o seem_v to_o itself_o to_o have_v convert_v or_o turn_v itself_o inward_o unto_o the_o divine_a presence_n etc._n etc._n and_o yet_o not_o have_v true_o convert_v thereunto_o yea_o i_o will_v say_v a_o great_a word_n but_o that_o which_o be_v a_o very_a certain_a truth_n many_o do_v inward_o convert_v as_o unto_o god_n but_o it_o be_v not_o to_o the_o true_a god_n but_o a_o false_a even_o a_o image_n of_o their_o own_o frame_n and_o devise_v and_o as_o unto_o christ_n but_o indeed_o it_o be_v unto_o antichrist_n and_o sure_o this_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o very_a beginning_n of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o iniquity_n when_o satan_n put_v on_o the_o appearance_n of_o god_n and_o antichrist_n of_o christ_n sit_v down_o in_o the_o temple_n of_o god_n and_o be_v axalt_v above_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v call_v god_n now_o to_o open_v this_o a_o little_a more_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v that_o all_o man_n have_v some_o notion_n or_o image_n of_o god_n in_o their_o mind_n by_o which_o when_o they_o speak_v hear_v or_o read_v of_o he_o they_o some_o way_n think_v and_o form_v their_o thought_n and_o conception_n of_o he_o according_a to_o that_o objective_a notion_n or_o idea_n with_o which_o they_o be_v acquaint_v now_o though_o it_o be_v also_o certain_a that_o there_o be_v in_o some_o measure_n a_o true_a objective_n concept_n or_o idea_n of_o god_n put_v or_o plant_v by_o god_n himself_o in_o every_o man_n mind_n which_o be_v in_o and_o of_o the_o divine_a seed_n sow_v in_o every_o man_n yet_o the_o usual_a knowledge_n that_o man_n common_o have_v of_o god_n do_v not_o proceed_v from_o this_o true_a idea_n in_o the_o divine_a seed_n nor_o be_v it_o the_o pattern_n or_o example_n according_a to_o which_o they_o usual_o frame_v the_o thought_n and_o conception_n of_o their_o mind_n when_o they_o usual_o speak_v read_v hear_v or_o consider_v of_o he_o in_o their_o mind_n forasmuch_o as_o the_o divine_a seed_n in_o and_o through_o which_o the_o true_a idea_n be_v receive_v in_o most_o man_n yea_o in_o all_o wicked_a man_n and_o unconvert_v be_v great_o burden_a and_o oppress_v through_o the_o lust_n and_o iniquity_n which_o prevail_v in_o they_o whereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o frequent_o that_o true_a object_n concept_n or_o idea_n or_o manifestation_n of_o god_n in_o the_o divine_a seed_n which_o in_o scripture_n be_v call_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d i._o e._n that_o which_o may_v be_v know_v of_o god_n be_v veil_v and_o cloud_v in_o they_o so_o that_o the_o soul_n do_v no_o more_o apprehend_v it_o then_o if_o it_o be_v not_o and_o when_o by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o lord_n in_o his_o visitation_n upon_o the_o soul_n this_o objective_a concept_n as_o aforesaid_a be_v bring_v into_o some_o measure_n of_o manifestation_n yet_o the_o soul_n be_v so_o intent_o take_v up_o with_o its_o sinful_a lust_n and_o pleasure_n that_o it_o do_v little_o observe_v it_o and_o many_o time_n not_o at_o all_o even_o as_o if_o some_o friend_n pass_v by_o before_o i_o in_o my_o view_n yet_o i_o be_v much_o take_v up_o with_o look_v at_o some_o other_o person_n or_o thing_n shall_v know_v nothing_o of_o his_o be_v so_o near_o and_o indeed_o it_o be_v even_o so_o as_o to_o this_o matter_n the_o lord_n do_v often_o visit_v the_o soul_n and_o pass_v
spirit_n now_o raise_v and_o form_v in_o thou_o for_o this_o be_v he_o who_o the_o lord_n have_v give_v thou_o for_o a_o leader_n and_o a_o commander_n and_o he_o be_v worthy_a to_o have_v this_o place_n for_o that_o he_o be_v a_o infallible_a guide_n instructor_n counsellor_n and_o teacher_n which_o never_o sin_v nor_o can_v sin_v and_o he_o have_v the_o father_n give_v unto_o thou_o for_o a_o head_n that_o in_o all_o thing_n thou_o shall_v obey_v he_o and_o do_v nothing_o but_o in_o his_o will_n even_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o natural_a body_n and_o life_n and_o power_n thereof_o for_o the_o power_n of_o life_n which_o be_v in_o the_o head_n and_o heart_n be_v supreme_a over_o the_o power_n which_o be_v in_o the_o other_o member_n do_v rule_n and_o command_v they_o and_o the_o member_n in_o which_o they_o be_v and_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v here_o and_o where_o the_o inferior_a power_n of_o the_o natural_a life_n do_v not_o obey_v the_o superior_a power_n of_o the_o same_o there_o be_v confusion_n and_o disorder_n in_o nature_n as_o indeed_o it_o have_v fall_v out_o through_o man_n disobedience_n to_o this_o holy_a life_n because_o man_n supreamist_n power_n of_o life_n videlicet_fw-la his_o will_n have_v not_o stand_v in_o subjection_n to_o the_o power_n of_o this_o holy_a life_n which_o be_v its_o supreme_a therefore_o have_v its_o power_n be_v take_v from_o it_o in_o great_a part_n that_o it_o can_v rule_v its_o inferior_a power_n as_o of_o the_o natural_a passion_n and_o affection_n but_o they_o often_o rebel_v against_o it_o so_o that_o many_o time_n a_o man_n be_v lead_v by_o his_o very_a animal_n passion_n into_o thing_n against_o his_o very_a will_n which_o will_v not_o be_v so_o be_v his_o will_n bring_v into_o a_o perfect_a subjection_n unto_o the_o will_n of_o this_o holâ—_n life_n its_o supreme_a and_o high_a power_n for_o than_o it_o will_v give_v it_o a_o perfect_a victory_n and_o dominion_n over_o they_o now_o when_o i_o speak_v of_o the_o absolute_a need_n that_o the_o soul_n have_v to_o know_v its_o warrant_n from_o its_o inward_a guide_n and_o leader_n viz_o this_o holy_a life_n and_o god_n who_o be_v so_o therein_o and_o so_o in_o conjunction_n therewith_o that_o when_o i_o speak_v of_o the_o one_o it_o be_v never_o to_o be_v understand_v but_o in_o conjunction_n with_o the_o other_o by_o this_o warrant_n i_o say_v i_o do_v not_o conceive_v that_o the_o soul_n for_o every_o thing_n it_o do_v be_v to_o have_v a_o absolute_a and_o positive_a command_n nay_o but_o it_o must_v have_v either_o that_o or_o at_o least_o a_o inward_a feel_v permission_n allowance_n or_o liberty_n give_v to_o it_o in_o and_o from_o the_o same_o and_o where_o this_o be_v clear_o and_o distinct_o receive_v and_o know_v it_o be_v warrant_v sufficient_a unto_o such_o who_o have_v it_o and_o whosoever_o do_v any_o thing_n or_o thing_n in_o this_o inward_a and_o feel_v liberty_n of_o the_o holy_a life_n and_o spirit_n of_o jesus_n christ_n do_v the_o same_o in_o true_a faith_n and_o gruond_v upon_o the_o know_a will_n of_o god_n either_o mandatory_a or_o permissory_a and_o if_o this_o permission_n or_o liberty_n be_v not_o grant_v unto_o thou_o thou_o will_v sensible_o feel_v in_o thy_o heart_n the_o holy_a life_n with_o its_o power_n repugnant_a thereunto_o so_o that_o it_o will_v sensible_o move_v and_o stir_v in_o thy_o heart_n against_o the_o thing_n thou_o have_v before_o thou_o to_o do_v iii_o and_o as_o thou_o be_v not_o forward_o or_o rash_o in_o thy_o own_o will_n to_o do_v any_o thing_n without_o the_o warrant_v aforesaid_a of_o the_o holy_a life_n mandatory_a or_o permissory_a â—o_o thou_o be_v to_o be_v as_o careful_a that_o thou_o be_v not_o backward_o negligent_a or_o unwilling_a to_o answer_v the_o will_n of_o this_o holy_a life_n in_o do_v those_o thing_n which_o it_o move_v and_o incline_v thou_o unto_o and_o require_v of_o thou_o for_o the_o hurt_n be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o in_o both_o viz._n in_o go_v about_o to_o do_v a_o thing_n or_o thing_n contrary_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o forbear_v to_o do_v that_o or_o those_o thing_n which_o he_o require_v of_o thou_o the_o one_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o commission_n the_o other_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o emission_n both_o of_o they_o the_o sin_n of_o disobedience_n against_o god_n and_o so_o both_o of_o they_o provoke_v the_o lord_n burden_n and_o grieve_v his_o holy_a life_n and_o spirit_n and_o both_o of_o they_o bring_v weakness_n conâ—usion_n deadness_n and_o darkness_n upon_o the_o soul_n iv._o do_v nothing_o doubtful_o and_o with_o unclearness_n and_o confusion_n of_o mind_n but_o exercise_v a_o perfect_a passiveness_n and_o forbearance_n as_o to_o all_o these_o thing_n which_o be_v not_o clear_v up_o unto_o thou_o to_o be_v the_o mind_n and_o will_n of_o the_o lord_n the_o right_a knowledge_n use_n and_o observation_n of_o this_o be_v of_o both_o great_a comfort_n and_o advantage_n unto_o the_o soul_n as_o we_o have_v often_o find_v by_o great_a and_o good_a experience_n 1._o it_o be_v of_o great_a comfort_n for_o it_o signify_v the_o great_a lenity_n and_o moderation_n of_o the_o lord_n towards_o we_o that_o if_o we_o be_v single_o give_v up_o in_o our_o mind_n have_v a_o willingness_n of_o heart_n in_o simplicity_n and_o uprightness_n to_o know_v the_o will_n of_o god_n perfect_o in_o all_o thing_n if_o some_o thing_n even_o of_o great_a importance_n be_v unclear_a unto_o we_o he_o spare_v to_o charge_v the_o guiltiness_n of_o disobedience_n upon_o we_o till_o we_o be_v clear_a though_o we_o be_v â—ound_v in_o the_o forbearance_n of_o they_o which_o be_v great_a gentleness_n upon_o the_o lord_n part_n 2._o again_o it_o be_v of_o great_a advantage_n to_o we_o for_o first_o it_o rid_v we_o of_o many_o superstitious_a fear_n which_o other_o have_v whilst_o one_o while_o they_o suppose_v they_o shall_v do_v this_o other_o while_o the_o contrary_a and_o still_o imagine_v god_n to_o be_v angry_a with_o they_o one_o way_n or_o other_o which_o beget_v most_o woeful_a superstitious_a fear_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o indeed_o i_o may_v say_v the_o ground_n of_o all_o superstition_n be_v the_o unclearness_n and_o confusion_n of_o mind_n as_o to_o the_o understanding_n the_o will_n of_o god_n one_o while_o over-rating_a thing_n and_o judge_v itself_o bind_v in_o thing_n wherein_o the_o lord_n have_v leave_v it_o free_a and_o then_o again_o imagine_v but_o both_o doubtful_o to_o please_v the_o lord_n in_o thing_n he_o do_v not_o regard_n second_o it_o reduce_v our_o whole_a work_n as_o it_o be_v within_o a_o narrow_a or_o small_a compass_n and_o yet_o not_o narrow_a than_o the_o lord_n allow_v for_o according_a to_o this_o advertisement_n concern_v the_o many_o thing_n that_o come_v before_o we_o as_o duty_n by_o way_n of_o consideration_n if_o we_o stand_v in_o a_o true_a and_o single_a resignation_n unto_o the_o will_n of_o god_n in_o all_o thing_n or_o true_o aim_v thereat_o we_o may_v thus_o reason_n with_o our_o own_o heart_n either_o such_o a_o thing_n be_v make_v clear_a unto_o i_o from_o the_o lord_n by_o the_o manifestation_n of_o his_o holy_a life_n in_o my_o heart_n or_o after_o single_o wait_v upon_o he_o it_o be_v not_o as_o yet_o make_v clear_a unto_o i_o if_o the_o former_a than_o it_o be_v my_o work_n to_o do_v it_o and_o i_o must_v not_o forbear_v whatever_o trouble_n from_o the_o enemy_n without_o or_o within_o i_o meet_v with_o in_o the_o practice_n thereof_o if_o the_o latter_a i_o have_v nothing_o more_o to_o do_v with_o it_o at_o present_a but_o to_o wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n if_o he_o shall_v afterward_o clear_v it_o up_o unto_o i_o and_o so_o i_o may_v let_v it_o alone_o with_o a_o quiet_a and_o peaceable_a conscience_n and_o thus_o you_o may_v see_v there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n betwixt_o do_v and_o forbear_v for_o unclearness_n of_o mind_n in_o the_o thing_n may_v be_v a_o ground_n for_o i_o to_o forbear_v it_o but_o i_o must_v not_o do_v any_o thing_n upon_o the_o ground_n of_o unclearness_n a_o three_o advantage_n be_v that_o thereby_o our_o mind_n be_v keep_v clear_a and_o pure_a and_o open_a even_o like_o a_o free_a and_o clear_a air_n which_o do_v with_o readiness_n receive_v the_o light_n that_o shine_v in_o it_o and_o every_o impression_n make_v in_o it_o thereby_o whereas_o do_v thing_n in_o the_o unclearness_n and_o doubtfulness_n confuse_v and_o disorder_v the_o mind_n yea_o make_v it_o muddy_a and_o gross_a bring_v darkness_n and_o death_n over_o it_o for_o he_o that_o doubt_v be_v condemn_v in_o his_o own_o heart_n four_o it_o give_v we_o a_o opportunity_n to_o cut_v short_a the_o work_n in_o righteousness_n touch_v the_o do_v or_o forbear_v of_o and_o remember_v that_o in_o all_o these_o step_n the_o suffering_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n etc._n etc._n have_v these_o influence_n upon_o we_o not_o as_o they_o be_v present_v unto_o we_o bare_o in_o our_o own_o spirit_n or_o as_o we_o do_v bring_v they_o to_o our_o remembrance_n thereby_o and_o so_o make_v a_o work_n upon_o ourselves_o in_o our_o own_o thought_n and_o motion_n for_o in_o so_o do_v we_o shall_v never_o profit_v our_o own_o soul_n either_o in_o die_v unto_o sin_n or_o live_v in_o holiness_n unto_o god_n indeed_o we_o may_v thereby_o raise_v spark_n of_o our_o own_o kindle_v in_o the_o affectionate_a part_n and_o work_v some_o effect_n in_o our_o heart_n which_o may_v be_v a_o shadow_n or_o likeness_n of_o these_o thing_n but_o can_v never_o be_v the_o thing_n themselves_o but_o as_o they_o be_v inward_o present_v to_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o light_n life_n and_o spirit_n of_o christ_n jesus_n and_o apply_v thereby_o and_o that_o instant_o and_o continual_o for_o it_o be_v his_o light_n life_n and_o spirit_n alone_o which_o both_o give_v the_o true_a understanding_n of_o the_o use_n and_o end_v of_o these_o thing_n and_o also_o give_v unto_o the_o soul_n the_o live_a sense_n and_o feel_n of_o they_o and_o in_o a_o live_n and_o effectual_a way_n do_v only_o and_o can_v apply_v they_o unto_o the_o soul_n and_o whole_a power_n thereof_o for_o the_o work_v such_o suitable_a effect_n and_o impression_n as_o be_v proper_a thereunto_o but_o some_o may_v say_v see_v the_o outward_a come_v suffering_n and_o death_n etc._n etc._n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n as_o it_o be_v know_v and_o improve_v by_o the_o soul_n be_v so_o effectual_a to_o work_v faith_n and_o love_n in_o it_o towards_o god_n and_o for_o its_o mortification_n unto_o sin_n and_o live_n in_o holiness_n unto_o god_n will_v it_o not_o therefore_o seem_v that_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o outward_a come_v suffering_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n as_o aforesaid_a be_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n unto_o every_o one_o for_o the_o attainment_n of_o these_o thing_n for_o how_o can_v a_o soul_n believe_v that_o god_n will_v be_v gracious_a unto_o it_o or_o be_v reconcileable_a with_o it_o but_o as_o it_o look_v upon_o that_o testimony_n of_o his_o mercy_n and_o love_n in_o send_v his_o belove_a son_n outward_o into_o the_o world_n to_o suffer_v and_o die_v for_o our_o sin_n in_o order_n unto_o our_o reconciliation_n and_o peace_n with_o god_n also_o how_o can_v it_o love_n god_n with_o that_o purity_n and_o fervency_n of_o love_n which_o be_v according_a to_o the_o gospel_n but_o as_o it_o regard_v and_o consider_v that_o testimony_n of_o his_o love_n in_o the_o come_v suffering_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o outward_a answ_n indeed_o the_o knowledge_n of_o this_o outward_a come_v suffering_n and_o death_n be_v of_o very_a bless_a use_n and_o advantage_n and_o all_o who_o have_v it_o shall_v be_v very_o thankful_a unto_o god_n who_o have_v give_v we_o this_o testimony_n of_o his_o love_n goodwill_n long-suffering_a and_o power_n in_o the_o outward_a come_n of_o jesus_n christ_n for_o the_o more_o abundant_a help_a and_o enable_v we_o to_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o love_v he_o yet_o this_o i_o say_v though_o express_a knowledge_n of_o his_o outward_a come_v suffering_n and_o death_n be_v very_o profitable_a to_o beget_v faith_n and_o love_n in_o man_n towards_o god_n as_o aforesaid_a and_o aught_o to_o be_v high_o value_v in_o its_o place_n nevertheless_o this_o express_a knowledge_n be_v not_o of_o absolute_a necessity_n unto_o faith_n and_o love_n forasmuch_o as_o the_o outward_a come_v suffering_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n may_v have_v and_o have_v a_o real_a and_o true_a influence_n upon_o they_o who_o know_v it_o not_o express_o for_o see_v he_o have_v taste_v death_n for_o every_o man_n and_o give_v his_o life_n a_o ransom_n for_o all_o it_o can_v be_v but_o that_o it_o shall_v have_v a_o influence_n upon_o all_o yea_o the_o apostle_n express_o mention_n what_o it_o be_v rom._n 5.18_o 19_o how_o that_o by_o the_o righteousness_n and_o obedience_n of_o christ_n the_o free_a gift_n be_v come_v upon_o all_o to_o justification_n of_o life_n look_v then_o as_o many_o of_o adam_n posterity_n suffer_v disadvantage_n by_o his_o disobedience_n who_o never_o know_v it_o express_o so_o why_o may_v not_o many_o receive_v a_o advantage_n by_o christ_n the_o second_o adam_n obedience_n even_o in_o the_o outward_a who_o never_o know_v it_o express_o yea_o certain_o they_o have_v for_o how_o many_o thousand_o have_v be_v save_v before_o christ_n come_v in_o the_o outward_a who_o know_v it_o not_o express_o and_o many_o who_o know_v something_o of_o it_o it_o be_v but_o very_o dark_o and_o under_o vail_n and_o figure_n yea_o the_o very_a disciple_n do_v not_o for_o a_o good_a time_n know_v of_o his_o death_n so_o that_o when_o he_o tell_v they_o of_o it_o they_o be_v astonish_v and_o yet_o they_o have_v both_o faith_n and_o love_n in_o some_o measure_n see_v than_o that_o some_o have_v faith_n and_o love_n to_o god_n and_o be_v save_v without_o the_o express_a knowledge_n thereof_o before_o he_o come_v outward_o why_o not_o also_o after_o his_o come_n where_o his_o come_n outward_o have_v not_o be_v preach_v nor_o reveal_v yea_o have_v not_o god_n a_o way_n of_o save_a infant_n and_o the_o dumb_a and_o deaf_a who_o have_v not_o that_o express_a knowledge_n for_o now_o christ_n be_v inward_o come_v in_o a_o seed_n of_o life_n and_o light_a in_o all_o which_o be_v the_o word_n of_o reconciliation_n by_o which_o man_n may_v be_v reconcile_v with_o god_n as_o they_o join_v and_o apply_v their_o mind_n thereunto_o and_o in_o this_o the_o lord_n god_n do_v give_v a_o sufficient_a testimony_n of_o his_o love_n mercy_n goodwill_n long_o suffer_v and_o power_n unto_o every_o man_n for_o his_o salvation_n whereby_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o he_o to_o attain_v unto_o the_o true_a faith_n in_o god_n and_o the_o true_a love_n towards_o he_o even_o according_a to_o the_o gospel_n and_o in_o this_o holy_a seed_n the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n and_o how_o he_o bear_v the_o iniquity_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o make_v intercession_n or_o atonement_n unto_o god_n may_v be_v learn_v in_o some_o measure_n with_o many_o other_o thing_n concern_v christ_n in_o relation_n to_o he_o and_o his_o do_n and_o suffering_n in_o the_o outward_a which_o be_v a_o outward_a and_o visible_a testimony_n of_o his_o inward_a do_n and_o suffering_n in_o all_o age_n in_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o the_o holy_a seed_n and_o indeed_o we_o find_v that_o this_o be_v only_o the_o true_a and_o effectual_a way_n of_o know_v the_o use_n and_o work_v of_o his_o come_v and_o suffering_n and_o death_n in_o the_o outward_a by_o turn_v and_o have_v our_o mind_n turn_v inward_o unto_o himself_o near_o and_o in_o our_o heart_n in_o the_o holy_a seed_n to_o know_v by_o a_o inward_a feel_n and_o good_a experience_n his_o do_n and_o suffering_n in_o we_o by_o be_v make_v conformable_a thereunto_o in_o which_o holy_a seed_n as_o it_o arise_v in_o we_o such_o a_o clear_a light_n shine_v forth_o in_o our_o heart_n as_o give_v unto_o we_o the_o true_a knowledge_n of_o the_o use_n of_o his_o inward_a do_n and_o suffering_n hence_o also_o such_o a_o precious_a sweet_a and_o powerful_a life_n spring_v up_o from_o and_o in_o the_o same_o holy_a seed_n which_o do_v with_o much_o sweetness_n and_o comfort_n enable_v we_o to_o follow_v his_o example_n in_o the_o outward_a in_o faith_n in_o obedience_n in_o love_n in_o purity_n in_o patience_n in_o godliness_n in_o righteousness_n and_o temperance_n and_o all_o other_o thing_n wherein_o we_o be_v require_v to_o imitate_v he_o and_o this_o be_v the_o great_a loss_n we_o find_v people_n at_o general_o who_o seek_v to_o know_v the_o virtue_n and_o use_v of_o his_o come_v do_n and_o suffering_n in_o the_o of_o mind_n from_o all_o thy_o own_o thought_n and_o imagination_n which_o will_v afterward_o become_v easy_a and_o familiar_a unto_o thou_o as_o thou_o do_v experience_n any_o considerable_a growth_n in_o the_o truth_n yet_o as_o thou_o presse_v after_o it_o thou_o will_v find_v they_o self_n help_v by_o the_o lord_n to_o come_v into_o some_o measure_n of_o true_a silence_n and_o although_o thou_o can_v not_o say_v that_o all_o vain_a foolish_a thought_n and_o idle_a imagination_n be_v put_v out_o of_o thy_o mind_n yet_o if_o a_o considerable_a part_n of_o they_o be_v go_v and_o evanished_a so_o that_o thy_o mind_n be_v somewhat_o more_o cool_a and_o quiet_a and_o still_o and_o empty_a of_o such_o thing_n than_o it_o be_v wont_a to_o be_v here_o thou_o will_v find_v thyself_o at_o some_o dark_a blind_a deaf_a and_o stupid_a that_o many_o time_n they_o have_v no_o sense_n of_o any_o divine_a power_n or_o principle_n yet_o when_o it_o please_v god_n to_o speak_v in_o the_o most_o deaf_a and_o stupid_a soul_n he_o cause_v it_o to_o hear_v and_o raise_v up_o some_o small_a sense_n of_o the_o same_o in_o it_o at_o that_o present_a time_n although_o soon_o after_o darkness_n and_o death_n do_v prevail_v over_o they_o again_o and_o they_o forget_v any_o such_o experience_n as_o if_o they_o have_v never_o have_v it_o how_o do_v god_n speak_v unto_o cain_n and_o expostulate_v with_o he_o we_o read_v not_o that_o it_o be_v by_o a_o outward_a voice_n nor_o be_v there_o any_o need_n to_o suppose_v that_o when_o god_n reprove_v he_o for_o his_o anger_n against_o his_o brother_n it_o be_v by_o a_o outward_a voice_n and_o not_o rather_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n inward_o in_o his_o heart_n and_o conscience_n as_o he_o do_v reprove_v man_n at_o this_o day_n and_o and_o of_o his_o goodness_n love_n mercy_n power_n holiness_n purity_n and_o justice_n and_o this_o be_v more_o effectual_a than_o all_o demonstration_n of_o reason_n or_o of_o the_o natural_a the_o want_n of_o the_o true_a knowledge_n sense_n and_o observation_n of_o they_o have_v be_v a_o grievous_a block_n in_o the_o way_n of_o many_o in_o their_o progress_n in_o holiness_n yea_o have_v hinder_v they_o from_o grow_v up_o to_o any_o considerable_a pitch_n or_o perfection_n in_o holiness_n that_o they_o have_v continue_v as_o weakling_n and_o babe_n therethrough_a whereas_o otherwise_o they_o may_v have_v be_v strong_a man_n in_o christ._n i._o have_v now_o attain_v unto_o a_o measure_n of_o the_o holy_a life_n and_o the_o power_n thereof_o so_o that_o thou_o find_v the_o power_n of_o this_o life_n in_o thy_o heart_n as_o it_o be_v a_o wheel_n within_o a_o wheel_n or_o as_o a_o soul_n within_o a_o soul_n yea_o it_o be_v true_o so_o and_o that_o also_o thou_o find_v thy_o soul_n in_o a_o measure_n of_o pure_a union_n with_o it_o and_o every_o power_n of_o thy_o soul_n affect_v and_o touch_v with_o the_o power_n of_o this_o holy_a life_n in_o pure_a embrace_n every_o one_o as_o it_o be_v kiss_v each_o other_o and_o hereby_o thou_o will_v feel_v thyself_o strong_a in_o some_o measure_n to_o do_v some_o thing_n pertain_v unto_o a_o holy_a life_n yea_o thou_o will_v even_o so_o find_v it_o with_o thou_o as_o if_o thou_o be_v cure_v of_o a_o bodily_a lameness_n or_o as_o if_o thy_o tongue_n be_v loose_v which_o be_v former_o bind_v then_o thou_o be_v to_o stand_v in_o great_a fear_n and_o reverence_n and_o be_v very_o cautious_a that_o thou_o fall_v not_o upon_o do_v any_o thing_n or_o thing_n less_o or_o more_o at_o all_o adventure_n or_o hand_n over_o head_n as_o they_o use_v to_o say_v as_o to_o set_v about_o any_o performance_n in_o thy_o own_o natural_a and_o selfish_a will_n because_o thou_o find_v strength_n in_o thou_o as_o thou_o conceive_v to_o and_o a_o thick_a cloud_n of_o darkness_n will_v come_v betwixt_o the_o eye_n of_o thy_o soul_n and_o that_o pure_a light_n of_o life_n which_o shine_v in_o thou_o yea_o a_o vail_n of_o death_n will_v come_v over_o the_o tender_a life_n in_o some_o measure_n and_o thou_o will_v find_v the_o pure_a life_n in_o thou_o burden_a and_o oppress_v which_o will_v occasion_v pain_n and_o grief_n of_o soul_n unto_o thou_o which_o can_v be_v utter_v and_o of_o these_o thing_n we_o have_v have_v experience_n divers_a time_n so_o that_o have_v not_o the_o lord_n in_o tender_a mercy_n recover_v we_o we_o have_v go_v down_o into_o the_o grave_n after_o some_o measure_n of_o quicken_a the_o reason_n of_o all_o this_o be_v because_o of_o man_n by_o his_o own_o will_n usurp_v and_o presume_v to_o lead_v forth_o the_o holy_a life_n which_o usurpation_n it_o can_v endure_v so_o as_o to_o yield_v or_o consent_v unto_o it_o therefore_o it_o withdraw_v its_o holy_a power_n of_o light_n and_o life_n from_o the_o power_n of_o the_o soul_n concentr_v they_o within_o its_o own_o particular_a be_v and_o thus_o the_o soul_n be_v leave_v in_o darkness_n confusion_n and_o weakness_n and_o the_o tender_a life_n be_v both_o grieve_v and_o burden_a as_o aforesaid_a for_o whatever_o seek_v to_o move_v it_o from_o its_o perfect_a unity_n with_o the_o will_n of_o god_n do_v hurt_v it_o for_o it_o stand_v for_o ever_o incorruptible_a with_o the_o divine_a will_n and_o that_o which_o seek_v to_o move_v it_o to_o the_o contrary_n may_v well_o bruise_v and_o wound_n yea_o kill_v it_o while_o it_o be_v but_o
