the_o church_n wherein_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n be_v plant_v much_o abound_v with_o such_o person_n as_o have_v the_o miraculous_a gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o no_o where_n be_v there_o in_o easy_a and_o intelligible_a expression_n that_o other_o may_v be_v edify_v by_o it_o now_o from_o these_o word_n compare_v with_o other_o place_n of_o scripture_n i_o shall_v take_v occasion_n to_o observe_v that_o there_o be_v two_o way_n of_o pray_v by_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o first_o age_n of_o christianity_n 1._o the_o first_o of_o these_o be_v extraordinary_a as_o when_o the_o spirit_n dictate_v a_o prayer_n by_o a_o immediate_a inspiration_n 2._o the_o other_o ordinary_a as_o when_o a_o man_n pray_v hearty_o and_o fervent_o but_o not_o by_o immediate_a inspiration_n but_o in_o the_o use_n of_o faith_n and_o hope_n and_o all_o such_o other_o christian_a grace_n as_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n and_o the_o cause_n of_o holy_a and_o good_a affection_n 1._o the_o former_a of_o these_o that_o be_v the_o extraordinary_a gift_n of_o prayer_n seem_v to_o have_v be_v of_o two_o kind_n likewise_o 1._o in_o the_o former_a whereof_o the_o understanding_n of_o he_o that_o pray_v seem_v to_o have_v be_v whole_o passive_a so_o far_o as_o not_o to_o have_v employ_v itself_o either_o in_o the_o invent_v of_o the_o conception_n of_o the_o prayer_n or_o in_o the_o utter_v those_o conception_n in_o a_o tongue_n common_o understand_v such_o be_v the_o prayer_n the_o apostle_n mention_n verf._n 14._o of_o this_o chapter_n if_o i_o pray_v in_o a_o unknown_a tongue_n my_o spirit_n pray_v that_o be_v the_o spiritual_a gift_n that_o be_v in_o i_o but_o my_o understanding_n be_v unfruitful_a that_o be_v to_o say_v my_o understanding_n do_v not_o employ_v far_o as_o to_o have_v receive_v all_o the_o conception_n of_o the_o prayer_n from_o the_o immediate_a inspiration_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n active_a so_o far_o as_o to_o have_v employ_v and_o exercise_v itself_o to_o express_v and_o utter_v those_o conception_n in_o a_o tongue_n unknown_a to_o they_o that_o hear_v and_o in_o a_o familiar_a easy_a manner_n and_o such_o be_v the_o prayer_n the_o apostle_n mention_n in_o these_o word_n i_o will_v pray_v with_o the_o spirit_n and_o i_o will_v pray_v with_o the_o understanding_n also_o i_o will_v utter_v the_o very_a same_o conception_n which_o the_o holy_a spirit_n suggest_v to_o i_o but_o i_o will_v use_v my_o understanding_n to_o utter_v they_o in_o a_o know_a tongue_n and_o in_o easy_a and_o familiar_a expression_n concern_v both_o these_o several_a way_n i_o have_v something_o to_o observe_v unto_o you_o 1._o concern_v the_o first_o wherein_o the_o understanding_n be_v whole_o passive_a wherein_o a_o man_n use_v both_o the_o gift_n of_o tongue_n and_o receive_v the_o conception_n of_o the_o prayer_n from_o a_o immediate_a inspiration_n i_o observe_v the_o apostle_n do_v not_o allow_v the_o use_n of_o this_o in_o christian_a assembly_n unless_o that_o either_o the_o person_n that_o pray_v or_o else_o some_o person_n present_v have_v the_o gift_n of_o interpret_n what_o be_v say_v the_o ground_n of_o which_o his_o determination_n be_v that_o nothing_o be_v to_o be_v speak_v in_o the_o church_n but_o what_o may_v edify_v all_o that_o be_v present_a even_o the_o most_o illiterate_a person_n and_o that_o such_o as_o these_o can_v not_o be_v edify_v by_o that_o which_o be_v utter_v in_o a_o unknown_a tongue_n though_o dictate_v by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n unless_o it_o be_v afterward_o interpret_v i_o will_v pray_v with_o the_o spirit_n and_o i_o will_v pray_v with_o the_o understanding_n also_o i._n e._n so_o that_o other_o may_v understand_v and_o so_o shall_v every_o man_n pray_v in_o the_o further_o than_o concern_v a_o particular_a congregation_n nay_o the_o church_n of_o any_o particular_a nation_n christ_n have_v a_o care_n of_o his_o whole_a body_n and_o require_v a_o unity_n and_o communion_n not_o only_o of_o the_o particular_a member_n of_o any_o church_n but_o of_o all_o particular_a church_n also_o these_o make_v up_o the_o catholic_n church_n and_o the_o catholic_n church_n be_v christ_n body_n there_o be_v one_o body_n and_o one_o spirit_n even_o as_o you_o be_v call_v in_o one_o hope_n of_o your_o call_n one_o lord_n one_o faith_n one_o baptism_n one_o god_n nature_n that_o we_o can_v forbear_v to_o love_v ourselves_o nor_o can_v that_o creature_n forbear_v to_o desire_v his_o own_o happiness_n that_o can_v forbear_v to_o love_v himself_o nor_o can_v the_o desire_n of_o that_o enjoyment_n wherein_o a_o man_n have_v place_v his_o happiness_n cease_v to_o urge_v and_o press_v endeavour_n in_o order_n to_o the_o attainment_n of_o it_o suppose_v we_o that_o our_o lord_n live_v and_o die_v and_o rise_v again_o and_o send_v the_o spirit_n to_o his_o apostle_n be_v attest_v by_o universal_a consent_n of_o those_o that_o can_v not_o but_o know_v the_o truth_n and_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o abuse_v it_o since_o all_o the_o rest_n be_v clear_o confirm_v by_o evident_a and_o undeniable_a miracle_n there_o be_v no_o cause_n we_o can_v imagine_v why_o
