first_o touch_v the_o whole_a man_n we_o know_v that_o man_n be_v a_o mix_a creature_n consist_v of_o two_o nature_n soul_n and_o body_n which_o be_v sweet_o unite_v to_o make_v up_o one_o complete_a creature_n the_o body_n endue_v with_o sense_n to_o receive_v the_o image_n of_o all_o corporal_a thing_n and_o the_o soul_n furnish_v with_o a_o faculty_n of_o reason_n which_o apprehend_v those_o image_n do_v discourse_n and_o draw_v consequent_n from_o they_o according_a to_o its_o own_o ingenerate_a principle_n of_o reason_n whereby_o it_o get_v knowledge_n of_o cause_n and_o effect_n which_o sense_n can_v attain_v unto_o this_o be_v the_o only_a natural_a way_n of_o man_n knowledge_n hence_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o discourse_v of_o spiritual_a nature_n the_o knowledge_n of_o which_o lie_v not_o through_o the_o sense_n but_o be_v get_v only_o by_o the_o rational_a power_n or_o force_v of_o reason_n that_o be_v in_o man_n we_o be_v put_v out_o of_o our_o natural_a accustom_a way_n and_o so_o be_v half_o lose_v we_o wander_v in_o uncertainty_n without_o any_o perfect_a knowledge_n or_o such_o as_o may_v content_v the_o nature_n of_o man_n and_o this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v one_o reason_n why_o we_o be_v so_o dim-sighted_a in_o spiritual_a thing_n itself_o the_o soul_n knowledge_n of_o itself_o again_o to_o come_v more_o close_o to_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o soul_n we_o know_v that_o whatsoever_o excellency_n be_v in_o inferior_a nature_n be_v much_o more_o and_o much_o more_o perfect_o in_o those_o that_o be_v superior_a whence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o perfection_n of_o other_o creature_n be_v much_o more_o perfect_o in_o man_n and_o chief_o in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n and_o those_o virtue_n which_o be_v in_o man_n soul_n be_v after_o a_o more_o excellent_a manner_n in_o angel_n and_o all_o perfection_n most_o perfect_o of_o all_o in_o god_n now_o as_o their_o nature_n be_v so_o also_o be_v their_o faculty_n and_o therefore_o in_o like_a manner_n the_o knowledge_n of_o inferior_a nature_n be_v comprehend_v by_o the_o superior_a but_o never_o the_o superior_a by_o the_o inferior_a i_o mean_v proper_o and_o natural_o for_o because_o the_o soul_n know_v by_o certain_a spiritual_a idea_n or_o abstract_a species_n which_o be_v gross_o take_v from_o the_o sense_n be_v perfect_v by_o degree_n as_o they_o come_v near_o the_o soul_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o knowledge_n of_o thing_n according_a to_o the_o manner_n of_o out_o knowledge_n be_v a_o more_o intellectual_a apprehension_n of_o they_o and_o so_o of_o a_o high_a nature_n than_o the_o thing_n themselves_o that_o be_v know_v whence_o it_o appear_v that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o the_o soul_n to_o know_v itself_o proper_o or_o perfect_o yea_o of_o so_o well_o as_o it_o can_v inferior_a nature_n if_o it_o be_v say_v if_o the_o soul_n be_v thus_o ignorant_a of_o itself_o how_o then_o do_v man_n know_v angel_n &_o both_o man_n and_o angel_n god_n be_v superior_a nature_n first_o although_o the_o soul_n can_v know_v itself_o reflection_n 1._o reflection_n according_a to_o that_o proper_a and_o natural_a way_n of_o knowledge_n whereby_o it_o know_v other_o thing_n yet_o it_o know_v itself_o by_o reflection_n that_o be_v by_o behold_v its_o own_o image_n in_o the_o effect_n as_o it_o be_v in_o a_o glass_n but_o this_o knowledge_n be_v but_o a_o shadow_n in_o comparison_n second_o i_o answer_v the_o soul_n know_v angel_n comparison_n 2._o comparison_n and_o both_o man_n and_o angel_n &_o god_n two_o way_n first_o by_o the_o inferior_a second_o by_o the_o superior_a itself_o by_o the_o inferior_a so_o by_o consequent_n of_o reason_n draw_v from_o sensible_a thing_n we_o conceive_v something_o of_o spirit_n both_o our_o own_o soul_n and_o angel_n and_o by_o the_o image_n of_o god_n in_o his_o creature_n we_o conceive_v something_o of_o he_o also_o but_o especial_o we_o know_v the_o superior_a by_o the_o superior_a itself_o infusion_n 3._o infusion_n and_o so_o both_o man_n and_o angel_n know_v god_n by_o union_n with_o he_o that_o be_v by_o the_o work_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n abide_v in_o we_o of_o which_o nature_n be_v that_o immediate_a vision_n of_o god_n which_o the_o angel_n enjoy_v in_o heaven_n and_o the_o saint_n somewhat_o taste_v of_o on_o earth_n impossible_a to_o know_v that_o which_o know_v impossible_a by_o this_o which_o have_v be_v say_v it_o appear_v that_o proper_o to_o know_v that_o by_o which_o it_o know_v be_v impossible_a for_o any_o creature_n because_o to_o know_v that_o be_v to_o be_v above_o itself_o and_o to_o have_v that_o which_o it_o have_v not_o this_o therefore_o be_v proper_a to_o god_n alone_o who_o essence_n and_o knowledge_n be_v both_o one_o and_o all_o other_o nature_n by_o the_o superior_a comprehend_v the_o inferior_a as_o for_o example_n we_o see_v in_o the_o sense_n for_o as_o the_o sense_n be_v so_o be_v the_o understanding_n the_o eye_n see_v but_o it_o can_v see_v that_o it_o see_v beast_n know_v but_o they_o know_v not_o that_o they_o know_v they_o know_v by_o sense_n those_o thing_n that_o eat_v inferior_a and_o subject_a to_o sense_n but_o how_o they_o know_v that_o be_v by_o sense_n cogitative_a the_o high_a perfection_n of_o their_o nature_n they_o know_v not_o for_o that_o be_v to_o be_v comprehend_v by_o a_o high_a perfection_n that_o be_v by_o reason_n and_o thereby_o indeed_o man_n know_v how_o they_o know_v but_o how_o they_o know_v that_o even_o themselves_o do_v not_o know_v otherwise_o then_o by_o the_o effect_n and_o by_o way_n of_o reflection_n but_o the_o thing_n itself_o that_o be_v the_o essence_n of_o
