satisfaction_n to_o god_n justice_n by_o the_o lord_n christ_n for_o our_o sin_n they_o object_n that_o the_o doctrine_n of_o a_o full_a satisfaction_n to_o god_n justice_n on_o our_o behalf_n destroy_v the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n so_o much_o magnify_v in_o holy_a scripture_n in_o the_o gratuitous_a pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n for_o if_o god_n receive_v a_o equivalent_a on_o our_o behalf_n he_o have_v not_o pardon_v we_o but_o only_o discharge_v or_o acquit_v we_o because_o our_o debt_n to_o his_o justice_n have_v be_v pay_v for_o we_o by_o another_o to_o this_o he_o answer_v yes_o the_o grace_n and_o pardon_v of_o god_n to_o we_o be_v most_o free_a because_o though_o our_o debt_n to_o god_n justice_n have_v be_v pay_v yet_o not_o by_o we_o but_o by_o a_o person_n who_o god_n himself_o find_v out_o for_o we_o beside_o the_o satisfaction_n make_v for_o we_o by_o the_o suffering_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n be_v a_o refusable_a payment_n because_o god_n may_v have_v require_v the_o satisfaction_n of_o ourselves_o or_o from_o we_o therefore_o he_o be_v right_o say_v to_o have_v pardon_v we_o and_o to_o have_v show_v most_o free_a grace_n and_o favour_n to_o we_o even_o though_o a_o equivalent_a and_o satisfaction_n be_v make_v to_o his_o justice_n on_o our_o behalf_n again_o they_o object_n that_o god_n can_v not_o in_o justice_n substitute_n a_o most_o worthy_a and_o righteous_a person_n to_o undergo_v punishment_n proper_o so_o call_v in_o the_o place_n and_o stead_n of_o unrighteous_a and_o worthless_a person_n that_o be_v to_o pervert_v the_o nature_n and_o whole_a design_n of_o that_o sort_n of_o justice_n which_o be_v exercise_v about_o reward_n and_o punishment_n he_o answer_v god_n may_v punish_v the_o lord_n christ_n for_o we_o first_o because_o under_o the_o law_n the_o innocent_a beast_n be_v substitute_v to_o death_n and_o punishment_n by_o be_v make_v a_o sacrifice_n for_o the_o sin_n and_o instead_o of_o the_o offend_a owner_n and_o master_n then_o because_o the_o lord_n christ_n free_o offer_v himself_o to_o suffer_v in_o our_o room_n and_o stead_n far_o they_o object_n that_o the_o three_o day_n death_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n can_v be_v equivalent_a and_o therefore_o not_o a_o satisfaction_n to_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n for_o the_o eternal_a death_n and_o damnation_n of_o one_o sinner_n much_o less_o of_o all_o mankind_n for_o suppose_v that_o the_o value_n of_o suffering_n or_o punishment_n be_v increase_v even_o to_o infinity_o by_o the_o infinite_a dignity_n of_o the_o person_n that_o suffer_v and_o suppose_v again_o that_o the_o lord_n christ_n be_v god_n as_o well_o as_o man_n be_v indeed_o a_o person_n of_o infinite_a dignity_n yet_o see_v his_o divinity_n can_v suffer_v nothing_o at_o all_o but_o only_o his_o humanity_n therefore_o his_o suffering_n be_v but_o human_a and_o finite_a and_o consequent_o no_o way_n commensurate_a to_o the_o infinite_a punishment_n due_a to_o one_o sinner_n much_o less_o to_o that_o of_o all_o sinner_n he_o reply_v first_o that_o to_o the_o account_n of_o the_o suffering_n or_o punishment_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n we_o must_v reckon_v all_o the_o suffering_n of_o his_o life_n and_o especial_o his_o agony_n in_o the_o garden_n which_o our_o author_n say_v be_v so_o great_a that_o it_o be_v equivalent_a to_o that_o eternal_a punishment_n prepare_v by_o god_n for_o all_o impenitent_a sinner_n p._n 749._o but_o lest_o the_o agony_n in_o the_o garden_n and_o on_o the_o cross_n shall_v seem_v to_o any_o to_o have_v be_v too_o much_o short_a in_o time_n to_o be_v lay_v in_o the_o balance_n against_o
