the_o end_n chap._n four_o that_o though_o faith_n and_o the_o holy_a spirit_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n yet_o err_v person_n have_v and_o may_v have_v they_o yet_o some_o body_n may_v just_o which_o no_o man_n that_o be_v in_o his_o wit_n do_v ever_o imagine_v to_o be_v due_a to_o the_o desert_n of_o man_n much_o less_o to_o the_o perverseness_n of_o so_o many_o error_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v have_v i_o to_o do_v with_o none_o but_o they_o who_o exclude_v all_o action_n of_o our_o free_a reception_n from_o the_o donation_n of_o faith_n or_o imagine_v that_o eternal_a salvation_n be_v in_o good_a earnest_n promise_v to_o few_o than_o it_o be_v outward_o offer_v it_o will_v be_v suitable_a to_o handle_v these_o matter_n in_o this_o place_n more_o large_o but_o now_o forasmuch_o as_o not_o a_o few_o of_o the_o reform_a abhor_v those_o error_n it_o will_v cross_v the_o design_n of_o my_o discourse_n to_o digress_v and_o expatiate_v very_o far_o it_o shall_v suffice_v to_o have_v touch_v a_o few_o and_o those_o not_o of_o the_o best_a argument_n for_o the_o true_a opinion_n but_o such_o as_o first_o occur_v at_o present_a in_o the_o first_o place_n therefore_o we_o must_v choose_v one_o of_o these_o twain_o either_o to_o imagine_v that_o eternal_a salvation_n be_v upon_o condition_n of_o faith_n real_o promise_v unto_o all_o to_o who_o it_o be_v preach_v and_o offer_v or_o that_o god_n offer_v that_o to_o certain_a man_n in_o word_n and_o tongue_n which_o he_o have_v decree_v not_o to_o perform_v in_o deed_n and_o truth_n whosoever_o shall_v make_v choice_n of_o the_o latter_a i_o entreat_v they_o that_o they_o will_v invent_v a_o new_a name_n for_o this_o thing_n or_o confess_v it_o under_o the_o old_a name_n to_o be_v hypocrisy_n that_o be_v guileful_a dissimulation_n and_o deceit_n what_o they_o imprudent_o ascribe_v to_o the_o most_o high_a god_n but_o i_o have_v little_a to_o do_v with_o such_o as_o have_v rather_o god_n shall_v be_v tax_v and_o convince_v of_o evil_a dissemble_n than_o themselves_o of_o error_n and_o therefore_o i_o lay_v this_o first_o ground_n of_o my_o answer_n that_o god_n be_v faithful_a and_o will_v serious_o to_o give_v eternal_a happiness_n to_o whosoever_o he_o offer_v the_o same_o by_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n unless_o man_n themselves_o be_v want_v to_o their_o duty_n but_o he_o have_v exclude_v unwillingness_n now_o if_o god_n in_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n have_v promise_v eternal_a salvation_n promiscuous_o to_o all_o who_o desire_v to_o attain_v it_o he_o have_v also_o promise_v all_o mean_n tend_v to_o this_o end_n which_o be_v on_o his_o part_n necessary_o require_v for_o he_o will_v be_v ridiculous_a who_o shall_v promise_v to_o a_o beggar_n that_o he_o will_v present_o give_v he_o a_o alm_n and_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n be_v careless_a yea_o unwilling_a to_o put_v his_o hand_n to_o his_o purse_n that_o he_o may_v reach-out_a what_o he_o have_v promise_v especial_o if_o the_o beggar_n can_v receive_v that_o alm_n no_o other_o way_n then_o by_o his_o reach_v of_o it_o out_o nor_o can_v he_o be_v say_v true_o to_o promise_v any_o thing_n who_o reserve_v to_o himself_o a_o free_a power_n to_o bestow_v something_o without_o which_o what_o he_o have_v promise_v can_v by_o no_o mean_n be_v receive_v and_o acquire_v far_o be_v it_o from_o we_o to_o have_v so_o impious_a a_o thought_n towards_o god_n as_o that_o we_o shall_v suspect_v any_o evil_n
way_n that_o bring_v we_o to_o heaven_n methinks_v such_o contemplation_n as_o these_o be_v out_o of_o the_o road_n of_o our_o journey_n for_o indeed_o what_o make_v we_o sufficient_o yea_o abundant_o fit_v for_o eternal_a life_n but_o faith_n work_v by_o love_n for_o which_o only_o we_o shall_v be_v pronounce_v just_a but_o if_o one_o may_v have_v this_o faith_n although_o he_o have_v a_o wrong_a conceit_n touch_v the_o mystery_n of_o the_o holy_a trinity_n what_o hinder_v but_o that_o he_o may_v together_o with_o this_o error_n be_v receive_v both_o into_o heaven_n and_o into_o the_o church_n that_o faith_n which_o be_v due_a to_o the_o divine_a promise_n certain_o experience_n itself_o testify_v that_o such_o as_o err_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o foresay_a mystery_n may_v excellent_o discharge_v this_o part_n of_o faith_n for_o they_o without_o any_o exception_n give_v credence_n to_o the_o holy_a scripture_n and_o to_o the_o apostle_n creed_n and_o therefore_o what_o by_o that_o error_n as_o for_o obedience_n to_o the_o precept_n of_o christ_n certain_o this_o can_v much_o less_o be_v take_v away_o by_o such_o mistake_n for_o neither_o be_v it_o the_o purpose_n themselves_o for_o what_o need_n be_v there_o to_o invite_v we_o with_o reward_n to_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o willing_o perform_v of_o our_o own_o accord_n but_o they_o buy_v happiness_n at_o a_o very_a cheap_a rate_n who_o spend_v nothing_o but_o the_o labour_n of_o their_o wit_n upon_o it_o for_o he_o that_o be_v never_o so_o wicked_a and_o careless_a of_o his_o salvation_n may_v know_v some_o truth_n concern_v god_n nor_o can_v we_o boast_v of_o our_o obedience_n in_o such_o thing_n unless_o we_o admit_v the_o damn_a spirit_n to_o a_o share_n in_o our_o praise_n beside_o the_o thing_n in_o the_o nature_n of_o faith_n uncomprehend_v in_o those_o two_o part_n but_o there_o be_v a_o wonderful_a silence_n in_o the_o sacred_a oracle_n concern_v that_o three_o part_n nor_o do_v i_o see_v how_o that_o faith_n be_v not_o perfect_a which_o be_v lively_a or_o how_o that_o be_v not_o lively_a which_o consist_v in_o a_o manner_n of_o its_o body_n and_o soul_n but_o you_o will_v say_v that_o we_o be_v necessary_o to_o believe_v many_o thing_n which_o be_v neither_o the_o very_a precept_n nor_o the_o promise_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v that_o they_o so_o belong_v to_o one_o of_o these_o that_o without_o they_o neither_o can_v be_v right_o perform_v of_o which_o sort_n be_v the_o omnipotency_n of_o god_n and_o the_o like_a attribute_n as_o also_o the_o creation_n providence_n etc._n etc._n which_o though_o they_o be_v neither_o the_o precept_n nor_o the_o promise_n yet_o can_v the_o belief_n of_o the_o promise_v consist_v without_o they_o so_o that_o a_o error_n in_o they_o be_v not_o now_o dangerous_a but_o altogether_o pestilent_a and_o pernicious_a but_o it_o have_v be_v clear_o prove_v that_o error_n about_o those_o doctrine_n touch_v which_o the_o whole_a discourse_n have_v be_v set_v on_o foot_n subvert_v neither_o member_n of_o faith_n at_o least_o in_o their_o own_o nature_n and_o unavoidable_o chap._n iii_o that_o sincere_a love_n
