of_o the_o apostle_n eph._n 3.8_o unto_o i_o who_o be_o less_o than_o the_o least_o of_o all_o saint_n be_v this_o grace_n give_v that_o i_o shall_v preach_v among_o the_o gentile_n the_o unsearchable_a riches_n of_o christ_n that_o man_n may_v learn_v as_o he_o say_v vers._n 9_o but_o this_o be_v not_o all_o there_o be_v scholar_n also_o of_o a_o high_a form_n in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n sc_n the_o angel_n themselves_o to_o the_o intent_n that_o now_o unto_o principality_n and_o power_n in_o heavenly_a place_n may_v be_v know_v by_o the_o church_n the_o manifold_a wisdom_n of_o god_n vers._n 10._o this_o may_v seem_v strange_a that_o angel_n shall_v learn_v of_o man_n but_o this_o we_o must_v know_v that_o it_o be_v not_o paul_n nor_o any_o mortal_a man_n that_o of_o himself_o can_v teach_v these_o immortal_a spirit_n any_o knowledge_n which_o they_o have_v not_o but_o it_o be_v the_o holy_a ghost_n himself_o who_o be_v infinite_o above_o man_n and_o angel_n that_o speak_v by_o the_o apostle_n to_o the_o angel_n and_o out_o of_o the_o mouth_n of_o man_n do_v teach_v these_o glorious_a spirit_n but_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n in_o the_o end_n of_o this_o knowledge_n in_o angel_n and_o man_n for_o man_n must_v learn_v the_o mystery_n of_o grace_n both_o that_o they_o may_v believe_v and_o be_v save_v and_o also_o that_o they_o may_v admire_v and_o magnify_v the_o riches_n of_o god_n grace_n in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n but_o the_o angel_n do_v not_o learn_v this_o for_o their_o own_o redemption_n who_o never_o fall_v into_o sin_n and_o therefore_o need_v no_o pardon_n but_o that_o they_o may_v glorify_v god_n and_o rejoice_v in_o the_o salvation_n of_o the_o elect._n and_o as_o god_n the_o son_n do_v choose_v to_o unite_v to_o himself_o not_o the_o nature_n of_o angel_n but_o of_o man_n so_o god_n the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v choose_v rather_o to_o speak_v by_o man_n to_o the_o angel_n in_o this_o mystery_n concern_v god_n the_o son_n be_v god_n and_o man_n than_o by_o the_o angel_n to_o men._n now_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o the_o evil_a angel_n also_o do_v learn_v the_o gospel-mystery_n which_o they_o also_o believe_v and_o tremble_v they_o be_v constant_a hearer_n and_o it_o may_v well_o be_v think_v that_o there_o be_v never_o a_o sermon_n which_o be_v likely_a to_o bring_v any_o danger_n to_o their_o kingdom_n but_o that_o some_o of_o they_o be_v present_a though_o for_o no_o good_a intent_n yea_o when_o they_o hinder_v other_o from_o learning_n yet_o they_o learn_v themselves_o though_o they_o never_o mean_v to_o practice_v and_o as_o the_o angel_n good_a and_o evil_n have_v increase_v their_o knowledge_n in_o the_o mystery_n of_o christ_n so_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o they_o have_v do_v the_o like_a in_o other_o thing_n by_o their_o long_a experience_n now_o you_o must_v not_o think_v there_o be_v a_o essential_a or_o natural_a difference_n between_o the_o good_a and_o evil_a angel_n though_o they_o differ_v exceed_o in_o regard_n of_o moral_a good_a or_o evil_n no_o more_o than_o there_o be_v between_o good_a and_o evil_a men._n peter_n and_o judas_n be_v both_o man_n though_o the_o difference_n be_v great_a in_o their_o end_n and_o in_o their_o disposition_n chap._n 3._o now_o i_o come_v to_o speak_v brief_o of_o both_o these_o sort_n apart_o and_o first_o of_o the_o good_a angel_n such_o as_o all_o be_v at_o the_o first_o for_o as_o for_o the_o evil_a angel_n they_o be_v not_o so_o by_o their_o creation_n and_o therefore_o as_o they_o be_v evil_a they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v reckon_v among_o the_o creature_n we_o may_v safe_o say_v that_o god_n make_v no_o devil_n for_o though_o he_o make_v those_o creature_n which_o now_o be_v wicked_a devil_n yet_o he_o make_v they_o not_o devil_n but_o holy_a angel_n excellent_a and_o glorious_a spirit_n but_o i_o shall_v not_o speak_v of_o they_o here_o now_o for_o the_o good_a angel_n 1._o consider_v their_o perfection_n which_o be_v both_o of_o nature_n and_o of_o grace_n the_o lord_n at_o the_o first_o give_v they_o a_o excellent_a perfection_n of_o nature_n whereby_o he_o make_v they_o good_a perfect_a and_o complete_a according_a to_o their_o kind_n so_o that_o they_o want_v no_o excellency_n which_o belong_v to_o create_v spirit_n and_o perfect_a intellectual_a nature_n so_o doubtless_o they_o have_v natural_o admirable_a power_n and_o strength_n give_v they_o as_o appear_z psal._n 103.20_o bless_v the_o lord_n you_o his_o angel_n mighty_a in_o strength_n one_o angel_n invade_v a_o whole_a camp_n of_o soldier_n and_o in_o one_o night_n slay_v 185000_o man_n their_o agility_n speed_n and_o quickness_n be_v extraordinary_a how_o swift_o do_v the_o wind_n fly_v through_o the_o air_n but_o these_o spirit_n be_v far_o more_o quick_a and_o active_a and_o therefore_o the_o cherubin_n be_v describe_v with_o wing_n and_o so_o the_o seraphim_n also_o yea_o they_o be_v call_v a_o flame_n of_o fire_n in_o regard_n of_o their_o inflame_a love_n to_o god_n no_o doubt_n they_o have_v a_o fullness_n of_o all_o perfection_n answerable_a to_o their_o nature_n power_n knowledge_n quickness_n perfect_a holiness_n love_v to_o god_n joy_n in_o he_o unspeakable_a and_o glorious_a and_o especial_o a_o most_o happy_a habitation_n in_o the_o glorious_a presence_n of_o god_n and_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n to_o this_o natural_a perfection_n which_o all_o angel_n have_v at_o first_o and_o which_o the_o good_a angel_n still_o have_v we_o suppose_v must_v be_v add_v a_o perfection_n their_o youth_n and_o consecrate_v the_o first_o fruit_n of_o their_o time_n unto_o god_n be_v exceed_o please_a and_o acceptable_a unto_o he_o 4._o when_o the_o sun_n set_v at_o night_n and_o leave_v we_o in_o the_o dark_a we_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o he_o will_v return_v again_o so_o when_o christ_n seem_v to_o withdraw_v himself_o from_o a_o faithful_a soul_n on_o which_o he_o have_v cast_v the_o sweet_a beam_n of_o comfort_n and_o refreshment_n let_v such_o a_o one_o know_v for_o his_o comfort_n that_o he_o will_v rise_v again_o this_o night_n will_v not_o always_o last_o though_o it_o be_v a_o long_a winter_n night_n a_o tedious_a time_n of_o desertion_n yet_o a_o dawn_n yea_o a_o perfect_a day_n will_v follow_v it_o when_o the_o face_n of_o christ_n shall_v shine_v again_o upon_o it_o again_o as_o the_o sun_n never_o so_o set_v as_o not_o to_o shine_v at_o all_o but_o when_o it_o set_v to_o one_o part_n of_o the_o world_n it_o arise_v to_o another_o so_o christ_n never_o withdraw_v his_o light_n from_o the_o whole_a world_n but_o although_o he_o remove_v from_o one_o nation_n yet_o he_o shine_v upon_o another_o he_o have_v a_o church_n in_o all_o age_n 5._o again_o as_o among_o those_o fruit_n which_o grow_v in_o the_o earth_n such_o as_o grow_v most_o towards_o the_o sun_n be_v sweet_a such_o as_o be_v most_o in_o the_o shade_n be_v sour_a so_o among_o those_o christian_n which_o be_v unite_v unto_o christ_n those_o who_o have_v more_o free_a and_o constant_a communion_n with_o he_o partake_v most_o of_o his_o spirit_n keep_v more_o close_a to_o he_o than_o other_o they_o bring_v forth_o most_o sweet_a and_o savoury_a fruit_n of_o obedience_n their_o service_n have_v a_o more_o please_a and_o heavenly_a relish_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o they_o than_o they_o who_o though_o they_o partake_v of_o some_o life_n and_o warmth_n from_o christ_n yet_o have_v it_o in_o aless_n degree_n and_o be_v less_o careful_a to_o remove_v such_o thing_n out_o of_o the_o sun_n as_o hide_v the_o face_n of_o christ_n from_o they_o therefore_o this_o shall_v move_v we_o to_o draw_v near_o unto_o he_o to_o dwell_v wiâ—h_v he_o to_o walk_v iâ—_n the_o light_n of_o hâ—m_n that_o we_o may_v receive_v heat_n from_o he_o and_o let_v we_o be_v more_o watchful_a that_o we_o step_v not_o aside_o from_o he_o in_o time_n to_o come_v 6._o as_o the_o sun_n be_v able_a more_o effectual_o to_o thaw_v and_o melt_v the_o freeze_a ice_n than_o many_o thousand_o man_n with_o axe_n and_o bettle_n so_o the_o presence_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o love_n manifest_v to_o the_o soul_n and_o shed_v into_o it_o be_v more_o effectual_a in_o melt_v a_o hard_a freeze_a heart_n into_o sound_n godly_a sorrow_n than_o a_o thousand_o threat_n or_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n therefore_o let_v not_o a_o afflict_a soul_n put_v back_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n tender_v unto_o it_o the_o offer_v of_o grace_n in_o christ-iâ—sus_a because_o it_o be_v not_o yet_o sufficient_o above_o all_o thing_n and_o so_o much_o as_o be_v sufficient_a clear_o to_o direct_v he_o in_o any_o duty_n which_o by_o the_o first_o covenant_n and_o law_n of_o his_o creation_n he_o owe_v unto_o he_o so_o that_o as_o god_n know_v himself_o so_o man_n have_v a_o clear_a knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o therein_o do_v bear_v his_o image_n then_o have_v he_o also_o a_o perfect_a knowledge_n of_o the_o creature_n sc_n of_o himself_o and_o other_o himself_o he_o know_v both_o soul_n and_o body_n and_o well_o understand_v the_o nature_n and_o virtue_n of_o each_o faculty_n in_o the_o one_o and_o the_o temper_n and_o use_v of_o each_o member_n or_o part_n in_o the_o other_o and_o this_o appear_v by_o the_o knowledge_n which_o he_o have_v of_o the_o woman_n at_o the_o first_o sight_n this_o be_v bone_n of_o my_o bone_n and_o flesh_n of_o my_o flesh_n she_o shall_v be_v call_v woman_n because_o she_o be_v take_v out_o of_o man._n he_o have_v a_o perfect_a knowledge_n of_o all_o the_o other_o creature_n here_o below_o he_o know_v the_o tree_n of_o the_o garden_n the_o herb_n grass_n and_o all_o sort_n of_o plant_n and_o the_o natural_a virtue_n and_o property_n that_o be_v in_o they_o he_o know_v the_o beast_n of_o the_o field_n the_o fowl_n of_o the_o air_n and_o fish_n of_o the_o sea_n and_o so_o adam_n give_v fit_a and_o proper_a name_n to_o all_o bird_n and_o beast_n so_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o he_o know_v the_o nature_n and_o several_a kind_n of_o all_o mineral_n metal_n precious_a stone_n etc._n etc._n together_o with_o the_o course_n and_o motion_n of_o the_o heaven_n sun_n moon_n and_o sâ—ars_n thus_o do_v the_o understanding_n which_o be_v the_o eye_n of_o man_n soul_n represent_v the_o infinite_a knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o bear_v its_o image_n and_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o call_v now_o hide_a quality_n in_o the_o creature_n be_v not_o hide_v from_o he_o and_o be_v now_o cover_v from_o we_o not_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o own_o nature_n but_o in_o respect_n of_o our_o blindness_n contrary_a to_o that_o light_n which_o be_v natural_a to_o we_o in_o the_o creation_n but_o all_o this_o while_n man_n have_v no_o knowledge_n of_o evil_n he_o know_v not_o what_o ignorance_n or_o error_n mean_v he_o know_v not_o what_o a_o stubborn_a will_n a_o hard_a heart_n a_o pollute_a conscience_n be_v he_o have_v no_o knowledge_n of_o the_o nature_n of_o disease_n nor_o of_o their_o remedy_n no_o nor_o of_o the_o cure_n of_o sin_n nor_o of_o the_o wash_n away_o of_o its_o guilt_n and_o pollution_n therefore_o the_o promise_n of_o this_o new_a kind_n of_o knowledge_n make_v by_o satan_n cause_v the_o woman_n ear_n to_o itch_n and_o her_o heart_n to_o long_o as_o imagine_v herself_o capable_a of_o some_o high_a perfection_n which_o god_n have_v not_o give_v she_o for_o this_o knowledge_n concern_v not_o that_o estate_n of_o man_n or_o do_v it_o make_v for_o his_o happiness_n sect_n 2._o ii_o his_o will_n be_v perfect_o bend_v to_o obey_v and_o cleave_v unto_o his_o creator_n who_o he_o know_v to_o be_v infinite_o more_o excellent_a than_o all_o the_o creature_n and_o from_o who_o he_o see_v he_o have_v receive_v all_o the_o good_a and_o happiness_n which_o he_o enjoy_v he_o be_v full_o resolve_v never_o to_o forsake_v he_o know_v there_o be_v none_o in_o heaven_n or_o earth_n to_o be_v regard_v in_o comparison_n good_a beyond_o comparison_n and_o he_o love_v whatsoever_o be_v agreeable_a unto_o god_n and_o herein_o he_o do_v resemble_v god_n who_o love_v himself_o with_o a_o most_o perfect_a love_n and_o love_v whatsoever_o be_v agreeable_a to_o himself_o he_o perfect_o hate_v whatsoever_o be_v contrary_a to_o god_n all_o manner_n of_o sin_n and_o transgression_n as_o the_o lord_n also_o hate_v it_o if_o he_o have_v any_o actual_a desire_n it_o be_v most_o holy_a but_o i_o see_v not_o what_o he_o can_v actual_o desire_v in_o that_o estate_n unless_o it_o be_v the_o continuance_n of_o that_o happiness_n which_o he_o have_v and_o that_o near_a communion_n with_o his_o god_n for_o he_o be_v full_a already_o and_o have_v as_o much_o joy_n holiness_n and_o happiness_n as_o he_o be_v capable_a and_o breath_n and_o that_o upright_a posture_n of_o his_o body_n be_v a_o fit_a resemblance_n of_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n that_o make_v it_o 2._o now_o without_o the_o body_n there_o be_v these_o strive_v after_o far_a perfection_n but_o now_o compare_v thyself_o with_o this_o image_n of_o god_n in_o adam_n before_o his_o fall_n and_o see_v what_o thou_o have_v to_o do_v how_o much_o be_v amiss_o in_o thou_o and_o must_v be_v amend_v when_o a_o man_n have_v lose_v a_o great_a estate_n and_o by_o some_o mean_n begin_v to_o recover_v again_o he_o will_v scarce_o think_v he_o have_v enough_o until_o he_o have_v get_v as_o much_o as_o he_o have_v before_o he_o will_v fain_o be_v as_o rich_a as_o ever_o he_o be_v man_n be_v too_o greedy_a of_o these_o thing_n but_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v so_o say_v i_o covet_v you_o the_o best_a thing_n thou_o be_v rich_a in_o adam_n our_o first_o parent_n have_v abundance_n of_o riches_n to_o leave_v we_o but_o he_o commit_v treason_n and_o so_o all_o be_v forfeit_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o lord_n now_o we_o shall_v never_o think_v ourselves_o well_o until_o we_o have_v recover_v the_o same_o degree_n of_o excellency_n
