make_v a_o article_n of_o our_o faith_n that_o we_o need_v and_o believe_v the_o remission_n and_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n but_o let_v we_o apply_v it_o 1._o this_o shall_v teach_v we_o not_o to_o be_v discourage_v 1_o for_o those_o infirmity_n that_o be_v in_o we_o for_o there_o be_v such_o in_o every_o saint_n sin_n be_v a_o guest_n to_o evil_a man_n but_o a_o thief_n to_o the_o godly_a which_o they_o will_v not_o have_v come_v in_o their_o heart_n so_o it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o wear_v a_o chain_n as_o a_o ornament_n and_o another_o as_o a_o fetter_n to_o restrain_v they_o therefore_o the_o godly_a ought_v not_o to_o be_v discourage_v but_o to_o assure_v themselves_o they_o be_v under_o grace_n 2._o we_o must_v not_o censure_v man_n for_o the_o slip_n and_o fall_v we_o these_o word_n or_o reason_n of_o the_o promise_n make_v unto_o they_o in_o the_o former_a part_n of_o this_o verse_n that_o sin_n shall_v not_o have_v dominion_n over_o they_o because_o they_o be_v not_o under_o the_o law_n but_o under_o grace_n i_o gather_v this_o conclusion_n viz._n that_o the_o way_n to_o overcome_v sin_n be_v to_o get_v assurance_n of_o the_o love_n and_o grace_n of_o 3._o god_n and_o that_o it_o be_v forgive_v they_o the_o reason_n why_o the_o apostle_n promise_v they_o sin_n shall_v not_o have_v dominion_n over_o they_o be_v because_o they_o be_v not_o under_o the_o or_o by_o the_o hear_n of_o faith_n gal._n 3._o 2._o second_o it_o be_v the_o way_n to_o make_v we_o believe_v the_o promise_n to_o make_v we_o believe_v that_o we_o be_v transform_v 2._o into_o a_o heavenly_a nature_n for_o when_o we_o believe_v the_o promise_n be_v true_a that_o work_v love_n in_o we_o and_o love_n transform_v we_o into_o the_o divine_a nature_n without_o which_o no_o sin_n be_v overcome_v three_o because_o hereby_o we_o be_v able_a to_o resist_v the_o tentation_n which_o be_v either_o for_o the_o enjoy_n of_o 3_o good_a or_o flee_v of_o evil_n so_o that_o these_o promise_n propound_v more_o good_a than_o sin_n can_v harm_v sin_n threaten_v the_o loss_n of_o outward_a thing_n but_o the_o promise_n propound_v eternal_a life_n which_o be_v better_o than_o all_o thing_n else_o in_o the_o world_n four_o because_o we_o do_v delight_n in_o god_n for_o when_o we_o do_v believe_v in_o god_n that_o our_o sin_n be_v forgive_v we_o in_o christ_n than_o we_o look_v at_o god_n as_o on_o a_o merciful_a father_n and_o then_o we_o cease_v to_o delight_v in_o the_o world_n and_o we_o begin_v to_o delight_v ourselves_o in_o the_o lord_n the_o use_n hereof_o be_v first_o for_o direction_n to_o teach_v we_o 1_o the_o way_n how_o to_o heal_v a_o sin_n and_o that_o be_v to_o get_v assurance_n that_o it_o be_v pardon_v and_o forgive_v for_o legal_a terror_n do_v not_o heal_v a_o sin_n but_o it_o be_v faith_n that_o purify_v the_o heart_n and_o purify_n pacify_v it_o as_o a_o traitor_n will_v not_o come_v in_o when_o he_o hear_v a_o proclamation_n out_o for_o need_v not_o to_o be_v call_v on_o to_o good_a duty_n but_o there_o be_v a_o natural_a principle_n of_o life_n in_o he_o whereby_o he_o do_v they_o with_o facility_n and_o constancy_n as_o natural_a action_n of_o life_n when_o likewise_o he_o do_v grow_v in_o they_o for_o where_o there_o be_v life_n there_o be_v also_o growth_n and_o when_o he_o do_v likewise_o desire_v that_o which_o may_v feed_v it_o as_o the_o mean_n which_o may_v strengthen_v he_o in_o the_o do_n of_o it_o as_o if_o a_o man_n have_v life_n he_o desire_v meat_n and_o sleep_n and_o when_o as_o there_o be_v life_n than_o the_o work_n that_o come_v from_o a_o man_n be_v not_o dead_a work_n and_o then_o you_o have_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n it_o be_v not_o a_o fashion_n only_o second_o it_o be_v not_o true_a but_o counterfeit_v when_o it_o be_v like_o the_o true_a but_o not_o the_o same_o but_o want_v some_o particular_a property_n that_o be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o the_o true_a as_o that_o which_o be_v counterfeit_a balsam_n which_o be_v like_o the_o true_a but_o want_v the_o power_n of_o heal_a and_o so_o likewise_o a_o counterfeit_a drug_n and_o a_o counterfeit_a jewel_n which_o want_v that_o property_n which_o the_o true_a have_v and_o the_o want_n of_o this_o you_o shall_v find_v in_o the_o use_n and_o in_o the_o wear_n as_o a_o rot_a bow_n be_v find_v to_o be_v rot_v when_o the_o arrow_n be_v draw_v to_o the_o head_n so_o if_o a_o man_n godliness_n be_v counterfeit_a and_o he_o unsound_a it_o will_v be_v discover_v in_o the_o wear_n or_o in_o some_o particular_a case_n when_o he_o be_v put_v to_o it_o or_o try_v a_o jeweller_n will_v find_v out_o the_o property_n of_o a_o jewel_n but_o a_o ordinary_a man_n can_v do_v it_o but_o by_o use_n &_o the_o wear_n to_o instance_n in_o some_o particular_a part_n of_o godliness_n the_o love_n of_o god_n if_o it_o be_v true_a have_v these_o property_n that_o a_o man_n love_v the_o brethren_n for_o how_o can_v thou_o love_v a_o immaterial_a holiness_n in_o god_n if_o thou_o love_v not_o that_o holiness_n which_o be_v stamp_v upon_o the_o creature_n like_o thyself_o so_o likewise_o rectitude_n and_o uprightness_n of_o heart_n try_v it_o by_o this_o property_n which_o our_o saviour_n christ_n make_v of_o it_o gracious_a speech_n christ_n say_v that_o that_o which_o be_v predominant_a in_o the_o heart_n the_o mouth_n will_v be_v full_a of_o so_o for_o keep_v of_o the_o commandment_n if_o in_o truth_n they_o have_v this_o property_n that_o they_o be_v not_o grievous_a they_o will_v do_v they_o with_o a_o natural_a that_o thou_o have_v and_o thou_o shall_v have_v treasure_n in_o heaven_n &_o so_o may_v thou_o try_v thyself_o when_o thou_o be_v put_v to_o it_o by_o loss_n of_o good_n or_o credit_n or_o otherwise_o three_o it_o be_v in_o the_o power_n when_o it_o be_v strong_a and_o not_o weak_a when_o a_o man_n have_v power_n and_o strength_n in_o do_v good_a duty_n and_o hereby_o many_o be_v discover_v who_o have_v good_a purpose_n only_o which_o though_o they_o be_v hearty_a in_o they_o for_o a_o time_n yet_o they_o want_v power_n and_o strength_n and_o this_o be_v the_o case_n of_o many_o which_o be_v in_o the_o church_n who_o though_o they_o have_v the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o approve_v the_o truth_n in_o their_o conscience_n desire_v to_o be_v save_v by_o the_o practice_n of_o it_o and_o so_o take_v up_o many_o good_a purpose_n which_o yet_o come_v to_o nothing_o because_o they_o want_v power_n and_o strength_n consider_v therefore_o if_o thou_o have_v power_n and_o strength_n to_o perform_v thy_o purpose_n and_o then_o thou_o have_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n but_o not_o else_o many_o will_v say_v i_o be_o but_o flesh_n and_o blood_n that_o be_v the_o substance_n and_o so_o again_o for_o we_o to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o do_v it_o because_o necessity_n it_o lay_v upon_o we_o and_o there_o be_v a_o woe_n denounce_v against_o we_o if_o we_o do_v it_o not_o as_o say_v our_o apostle_n of_o himself_o there_o be_v the_o shadow_n but_o to_o preach_v with_o power_n and_o authority_n and_o not_o as_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n with_o the_o entice_a word_n of_o man_n wisdom_n this_o be_v the_o substance_n five_o and_o final_o it_o be_v in_o the_o power_n when_o a_o man_n go_v through_o the_o work_n a_o thing_n be_v say_v to_o be_v in_o the_o power_n when_o it_o be_v effectual_a when_o a_o man_n bring_v it_o to_o a_o end_n and_o do_v it_o not_o by_o half_n so_o some_o begin_v indeed_o but_o then_o they_o leave_v the_o work_n in_o the_o rudiment_n but_o if_o a_o man_n have_v the_o power_n he_o will_v break_v through_o all_o difficulty_n he_o will_v leap_v over_o all_o till_o he_o have_v wrought_v out_o his_o salvation_n with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a and_o thus_o have_v dispatch_v the_o two_o former_a particular_n i_o hasten_v to_o the_o three_o and_o last_o of_o the_o premise_n viz._n the_o reason_n set_v on_o it_o have_v thou_o any_o lust_n to_o overcome_v set_v on_o it_o and_o let_v i_o speak_v to_o thou_o as_o he_o speak_v to_o gideon_n go_v on_o thou_o valiant_a man_n in_o the_o might_n of_o the_o lord_n the_o people_n of_o israel_n travel_v to_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n see_v the_o city_n wall_v to_o heaven_n and_o that_o the_o giant_n be_v there_o the_o son_n of_o anak_n yet_o
