vild_a thing_n to_o be_v accuse_v of_o whordom_n the_o filthiness_n of_o the_o flesh_n i_o but_o what_o say_v you_o to_o the_o filthiness_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o pride_n malice_n distrust_n holiness_n and_o righteousness_n that_o be_v in_o adam_n be_v but_o only_o that_o that_o be_v suitable_a unto_o a_o rational_a creature_n in_o such_o a_o condition_n and_o when_o he_o have_v it_o than_o he_o be_v to_o trade_n as_o it_o be_v with_o that_o stock_n himself_o and_o to_o live_v by_o the_o stock_n that_o god_n give_v he_o at_o first_o only_o a_o general_a concourse_n of_o god_n providence_n there_o be_v so_o long_o as_o he_o do_v continue_v to_o obey_v god_n that_o god_n providence_n shall_v go_v along_o with_o he_o and_o uphold_v he_o in_o his_o estate_n and_o this_o be_v the_o estate_n of_o adam_n but_o now_o the_o holiness_n and_o righteousness_n that_o the_o saint_n have_v come_v from_o another_o principle_n it_o come_v not_o from_o god_n as_o creator_n mere_o but_o from_o god_n through_o a_o mediator_n from_o god_n through_o his_o son_n it_o come_v through_o christ_n and_o it_o be_v a_o partake_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n and_o of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o christ_n we_o do_v not_o read_v of_o such_o a_o kind_n of_o work_n in_o adam_n only_o the_o text_n faith_n the_o lord_n make_v he_o according_a to_o his_o own_o image_n but_o that_o he_o shall_v have_v his_o holiness_n through_o union_n of_o the_o second_o person_n in_o trinity_n and_o through_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v send_v into_o he_o by_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o to_o be_v make_v a_o temple_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n we_o read_v not_o he_o have_v the_o principle_n of_o holiness_n to_o be_v in_o himself_o but_o we_o have_v our_o principle_n of_o holiness_n in_o christ_n still_o we_o be_v not_o trust_v with_o our_o holiness_n though_o holiness_n be_v convey_v to_o believer_n yet_o they_o be_v not_o be_v trust_v with_o the_o principle_n of_o their_o holiness_n but_o it_o be_v in_o christ_n still_o but_o adam_n be_v not_o so_o adam_z so_o long_o as_o he_o stand_v god_n will_v go_v on_o with_o a_o concourse_n of_o his_o providence_n with_o he_o but_o god_n never_o make_v such_o a_o covenant_n with_o adam_n that_o he_o shall_v have_v a_o principle_n of_o holiness_n lay_v up_o in_o his_o son_n and_o that_o by_o faith_n he_o shall_v fetch_v out_o this_o principle_n of_o holiness_n i_o will_v show_v you_o the_o difference_n between_o the_o state_n of_o adam_n and_o a_o believer_n by_o this_o similitude_n a_o father_n put_v a_o stock_n into_o his_o son_n hand_n but_o so_o as_o he_o tell_v he_o here_o be_v your_o portion_n i_o will_v give_v you_o your_o portion_n go_v and_o trade_n with_o it_o aswell_o as_o you_o can_v but_o you_o be_v never_o like_a to_o have_v any_o further_a from_o i_o but_o only_o what_o you_o get_v by_o this_o stock_n this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o adam_n god_n give_v adam_n a_o stock_n of_o holiness_n a_o stock_n of_o righteousness_n at_o first_o and_o bid_v adam_n trade_n with_o it_o and_o that_o that_o he_o shall_v have_v to_o live_v upon_o shall_v be_v that_o that_o he_o get_v by_o that_o stock_n and_o that_o be_v al._n but_o now_o it_o be_v true_a we_o have_v all_o lose_v that_o stock_n and_o turn_v bankrupt_a now_o god_n be_v please_v to_o set_v up_o some_o of_o mankind_n again_o there_o be_v other_o that_o must_v perish_v eternal_o and_o be_v cast_v into_o prison_n and_o there_o rot_v in_o prison_n eternal_o but_o to_o some_o god_n be_v please_v to_o give_v another_o stock_n yet_o so_o that_o he_o will_v not_o trust_v they_o with_o it_o whole_o but_o thus_o he_o give_v they_o grace_n and_o bid_v they_o go_v and_o trade_n with_o it_o but_o so_o as_o he_o give_v they_o it_o by_o little_a and_o little_a and_o reserve_v the_o main_a stock_n in_o his_o son_n hand_n and_o say_v go_v and_o trade_n with_o this_o and_o as_o you_o want_v come_v to_o christ_n if_o you_o have_v any_o loss_n in_o your_o trade_n come_v to_o my_o son_n and_o you_o shall_v have_v it_o make_v up_o again_o you_o must_v give_v account_n to_o my_o son_n every_o day_n and_o now_o one_o shall_v be_v take_v care_n of_o by_o he_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o loose_v what_o we_o have_v and_o if_o there_o be_v the_o least_o impair_n of_o what_o we_o have_v he_o will_v make_v it_o up_o because_o they_o find_v sweetness_n in_o their_o work_n it_o be_v not_o with_o they_o as_o with_o â—ther_a man_n other_o man_n work_v that_o they_o may_v have_v wage_n afterward_o but_o all_o the_o while_o they_o be_v about_o their_o work_n they_o have_v truth_n come_v in_o and_o heavenly_a notion_n come_v in_o to_o they_o while_o they_o be_v about_o it_o and_o so_o make_v the_o work_n easy_a unto_o they_o this_o be_v happiness_n of_o a_o christian_n that_o the_o while_o he_o be_v in_o his_o work_n the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n shine_v upon_o he_o and_o there_o be_v sweetness_n come_v those_o that_o be_v draw_v to_o holy_a duty_n they_o will_v not_o abide_v as_o it_o be_v say_v the_o son_n abide_v in_o the_o house_n but_o a_o servant_n abide_v not_o always_o in_o the_o house_n so_o such_o as_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n they_o will_v be_v go_v they_o will_v not_o abide_v but_o now_o one_o that_o be_v come_v into_o christ_n and_o have_v a_o sonlike_a disposition_n he_o continue_v as_o we_o say_v in_o philosophy_n no_o violent_a thing_n or_o motion_n be_v perpetual_a and_o indeed_o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n a_o hundred_o to_o one_o but_o they_o will_v prove_v apostate_n at_o last_o but_o one_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o evangelical_n way_n will_v continue_v and_o hold_v out_o unto_o the_o end_n iii_o the_o main_a use_n of_o all_o be_v to_o stir_v up_o the_o heart_n of_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a to_o know_v what_o the_o gospel_n mean_v to_o exercise_v much_o faith_n in_o christ_n that_o they_o may_v have_v much_o comfort_n in_o performance_n of_o duty_n do_v not_o content_v thyself_o that_o thou_o do_v duty_n but_o think_v with_o thyself_o oh_o i_o have_v hear_v of_o such_o a_o way_n that_o christian_n in_o thou_o come_v to_o understand_v the_o way_n than_o your_o duty_n will_v be_v more_o sound_n more_o spiritual_a more_o supernatural_a more_o acceptable_a than_o they_o be_v the_o lord_n love_v a_o cheerful_a giver_n and_o so_o he_o love_v a_o cheerful_a server_n you_o love_v to_o hear_v your_o servant_n sing_v at_o their_o work_n but_o if_o you_o set_v your_o child_n or_o servant_n about_o a_o work_n and_o he_o go_v heavy_o and_o dull_o about_o be_v grumble_a and_o pine_v and_o think_v you_o to_o be_v a_o hard_a master_n than_o he_o do_v but_o a_o little_a work_n so_o they_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n the_o truth_n be_v they_o perform_v little_a duty_n and_o that_o be_v not_o acceptable_a but_o when_o a_o soul_n come_v to_o find_v rest_n in_o duty_n it_o make_v it_o more_o spiritual_a more_o plentiful_a and_o more_o acceptable_a and_o those_o duty_n be_v very_o please_v unto_o the_o lord_n chap._n xxxvi_o show_v the_o rest_n from_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n to_o be_v sanctification_n and_o that_o to_o be_v a_o great_a rest_n lay_v open_a in_o six_o particular_n 1._o it_o be_v the_o right_a temper_n of_o the_o heart_n 2._o in_o it_o the_o soul_n do_v in_o great_a part_n attain_v its_o end_n 3._o in_o it_o the_o soul_n live_v the_o life_n of_o god_n 4._o it_o raise_v the_o soul_n above_o the_o region_n of_o all_o trouble_n 5._o power_n against_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n this_o rest_n be_v the_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n that_o here_o we_o be_v to_o speak_v of_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n and_o in_o this_o point_n there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o of_o useful_a and_o sweet_a thing_n that_o may_v require_v very_o large_a handle_n but_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v as_o much_o as_o i_o can_v to_o contract_v all_o within_o a_o few_o thing_n for_o this_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n there_o be_v in_o it_o these_o five_o thing_n to_o be_v follow_v that_o you_o may_v christ_n all_o our_o sanctification_n and_o help_v against_o corruption_n be_v in_o christ_n three_o how_o christ_n come_v to_o be_v this_o rest_n unto_o the_o soul_n four_o some_o consequence_n that_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n they_o have_v high_a argument_n they_o behold_v he_o with_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n and_o so_o they_o come_v to_o have_v power_n against_o their_o sin_n and_o to_o have_v ease_n in_o their_o soul_n thus_o say_v christ_n come_v to_o i_o you_o have_v corruption_n prevail_v over_o you_o and_o you_o perhaps_o strive_v with_o they_o with_o such_o and_o such_o argument_n but_o come_v to_o i_o and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o such_o thing_n you_o shall_v see_v so_o much_o against_o sin_n and_o so_o much_o for_o holiness_n as_o that_o that_o christ_n be_v the_o great_a prophet_n that_o teach_v and_o the_o great_a king_n of_o his_o church_n to_o govern_v and_o certain_o whatsoever_o be_v bring_v to_o he_o must_v be_v teach_v of_o he_o and_o govern_v by_o he_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o have_v communion_n with_o the_o fountain_n of_o all_o holiness_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o to_o live_v under_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n this_o can_v be_v v._o from_o hence_o follow_v likewise_o that_o for_o any_o to_o be_v hinder_v in_o their_o come_n to_o christ_n because_o they_o have_v not_o that_o measure_n of_o holiness_n that_o they_o desire_v this_o be_v a_o great_a temptation_n for_o any_o soul_n that_o see_v the_o want_n of_o grace_n the_o want_n of_o sanctification_n and_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n for_o any_o such_o soul_n to_o be_v hinder_v in_o the_o come_n of_o it_o unto_o christ_n because_o it_o have_v not_o what_o grace_n it_o do_v desire_v this_o be_v a_o very_a strong_a and_o a_o dangerous_a temptation_n of_o the_o devil_n which_o we_o be_v to_o take_v heed_n of_o it_o be_v a_o most_o irrational_a temptation_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v that_o that_o many_o poor_a soul_n be_v trouble_v withal_o they_o think_v thus_o when_o we_o exhort_v they_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n alas_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v poor_a creature_n i_o be_o so_o vild_a i_o have_v such_o a_o wicked_a and_o sinful_a heart_n how_o shall_v i_o come_v to_o he_o be_v i_o thus_o and_o thus_o have_v i_o power_n over_o my_o corruption_n as_o other_o have_v than_o i_o can_v be_v bold_a to_o come_v to_o christ_n now_o rest_n unto_o his_o soul_n you_o will_v say_v what_o shall_v we_o do_v then_o first_o take_v heed_n that_o there_o be_v no_o secret_a sin_n abide_v in_o your_o spirit_n you_o have_v need_n examine_v and_o look_v to_o that_o for_o that_o will_v be_v a_o thorn_n in_o the_o flesh_n that_o will_v trouble_v you_o if_o there_o be_v any_o secret_a sin_n thou_o live_v in_o it_o will_v be_v as_o a_o thorn_n in_o the_o flesh_n that_o thou_o can_v not_o be_v quiet_a second_o another_o thing_n that_o will_v hinder_v the_o rest_n of_o believer_n be_v that_o because_o they_o have_v not_o so_o much_o as_o they_o desire_v they_o will_v not_o take_v notice_n of_o what_o good_a god_n have_v grant_v to_o they_o because_o they_o have_v not_o all_o they_o will_v have_v they_o think_v they_o have_v
