preparative_n which_o the_o sonl_n make_v for_o this_o passion_n for_o resolution_n hope_n confidence_n and_o staiedness_n of_o courage_n which_o be_v the_o forerunner_n thereof_o require_v this_o kind_n of_o motion_n and_o without_o it_o can_v neither_o form_n themselves_o nor_o subsist_v but_o after_o the_o enemy_n approach_n and_o that_o the_o soul_n be_v rise_v up_o to_o assault_n and_o fight_v he_o she_o move_v the_o spirit_n in_o the_o same_o manner_n and_o all_o stiffen_a as_o they_o be_v she_o with_o impetuosity_n drive_v they_o forth_o to_o the_o exterior_a part_n and_o so_o carry_v redness_n to_o the_o face_n ardour_n and_o vivacity_n to_o the_o eye_n and_o violence_n to_o all_o the_o motion_n as_o we_o shall_v hereafter_o declare_v now_o to_o explain_v how_o this_o dart_v forth_o be_v make_v we_o ought_v here_o to_o repeat_v all_o what_o have_v be_v say_v in_o the_o chapter_n of_o desire_n for_o there_o be_v no_o difference_n in_o the_o motion_n of_o these_o two_o passion_n as_o to_o the_o agitation_n since_o both_o in_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o the_o soul_n issue_v as_o it_o be_v out_o of_o itself_o and_o cast_v itself_o towards_o the_o object_n which_o move_v it_o they_o be_v only_o unlike_a in_o the_o end_n she_o therein_o propose_v herself_o since_o in_o desire_n she_o carry_v herself_o towards_o good_a that_o she_o may_v get_v near_o it_o and_o thereby_o afterward_o enjoy_v it_o and_o in_o boldness_n she_o dart_v herself_o towards_o ill_n that_o she_o may_v combat_v and_o overcome_v it_o it_o be_v therefore_o here_o we_o must_v seek_v that_o satisfaction_n which_o this_o subject_n require_v as_o also_o in_o the_o discourse_n of_o hope_n that_o which_o be_v necessary_a to_o make_v we_o understand_v how_o the_o spirit_n settle_v and_o dart_v forth_o themselves_o at_o the_o same_o time_n we_o be_v only_o to_o observe_v that_o when_o we_o say_v that_o the_o motion_n of_o desire_n and_o of_o boldness_n be_v alike_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v understand_v in_o this_o dart_v forth_o for_o its_o certain_a that_o the_o soul_n never_o stiffen_v itself_o in_o desire_n unless_o it_o be_v accompany_v with_o hope_n with_o boldness_n or_o with_o anger_n forasmuch_o as_o she_o stiffen_v herself_o only_o to_o fortify_v herself_o and_o that_o she_o need_v not_o employ_v her_o strength_n unless_o difficulty_n present_v themselves_o which_o be_v not_o in_o the_o passion_n of_o the_o concupiscible_a part_n as_o elsewhere_o have_v be_v already_o say_v now_o the_o first_o thing_n which_o follow_v this_o motion_n boldness_n whence_o the_o heat_n come_v that_o raise_v up_o itself_o in_o boldness_n be_v the_o heat_n which_o shed_v itself_o over_o all_o the_o body_n and_o which_o by_o degree_n augment_v itself_o and_o proportionable_o as_o the_o impetuosity_n grow_v great_a for_o at_o first_o before_o the_o spirit_n dart_v themselves_o forth_o when_o they_o keep_v themselves_o only_o firm_a this_o quality_n be_v very_o moderate_a as_o it_o be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o hope_n but_o when_o they_o begin_v to_o make_v their_o fally_n and_o darting_n which_o drive_v and_o throw_v they_o forth_o it_o be_v then_o that_o it_o become_v violent_a and_o that_o at_o last_o it_o inflame_v all_o the_o part_n but_o the_o difficulty_n be_v to_o know_v whence_o this_o heat_n proceed_v for_o although_o there_o be_v a_o appearance_n which_o the_o agitation_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n cause_v since_o it_o be_v a_o maxim_n receive_v in_o the_o school_n that_o motion_n have_v the_o virtue_n to_o produce_v yet_o beside_o the_o experience_n which_o we_o learn_v that_o air_n and_o water_n cool_v themselves_o by_o agitation_n and_o that_o the_o shock_n and_o encounter_v of_o body_n by_o which_o we_o say_v heat_n be_v engender_v have_v no_o place_n in_o those_o which_o be_v subtle_a and_o fluid_a it_o be_v certain_a that_o there_o be_v passion_n where_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o spirit_n have_v a_o very_a quick_a and_o impetuous_a motion_n as_o we_o see_v in_o fear_n yet_o even_o in_o they_o heat_n augment_v not_o but_o even_o weaken_v itself_o for_o my_o part_n i_o believe_v that_o without_o stick_v at_o common_a opinion_n we_o may_v say_v that_o the_o heart_n be_v the_o source_n of_o heat_n have_v also_o the_o virtue_n of_o produce_v it_o and_o that_o be_v to_o lose_v this_o quality_n as_o a_o general_a instrument_n of_o all_o the_o function_n of_o life_n it_o must_v have_v the_o power_n to_o augment_v it_o according_a to_o the_o need_n we_o may_v have_v why_o shall_v we_o deny_v it_o this_o faculty_n since_o there_o be_v no_o form_n which_o produce_v not_o those_o quality_n which_o be_v necessary_a unto_o it_o the_o water_n of_o itself_o alone_o do_v it_o not_o take_v back_o again_o the_o cold_a which_o be_v take_v from_o it_o do_v not_o the_o earth_n also_o recover_v the_o dryness_n it_o lose_v but_o what_o be_v most_o considerable_a do_v not_o heat_n augment_v itself_o in_o presence_n of_o its_o contrary_n and_o if_o it_o be_v true_a that_o that_o which_o inflame_v the_o heart_n in_o violent_a passion_n proceed_v not_o from_o motion_n as_o we_o have_v show_v even_o now_o what_o other_o source_n can_v it_o have_v but_o this_o secret_a virtue_n we_o speak_v of_o in_o fine_a since_o the_o soul_n reside_v in_o this_o part_n as_o in_o its_o throne_n and_o that_o she_o be_v therein_o strong_a than_o in_o any_o other_o part_n what_o need_v we_o doubt_v but_o she_o help_v this_o production_n she_o who_o in_o herself_o contain_v the_o virtue_n of_o all_o inferior_a thing_n as_o we_o have_v show_v in_o the_o discourse_n of_o light_n we_o must_v therefore_o believe_v that_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o heart_n augment_v the_o natural_a heat_n when_o it_o be_v necessary_a and_o that_o in_o perform_v their_o endeavour_n and_o stir_v itself_o to_o produce_v it_o they_o cause_v it_o to_o issue_n out_o of_o those_o principle_n where_o she_o potential_o
