surprise_v may_v be_v at_o a_o loss_n at_o first_o in_o respect_n of_o that_o confidence_n of_o spirit_n to_o bear_v they_o till_o by_o prayer_n and_o faith_n recollect_v themselves_o they_o shall_v anew_o obtain_v or_o regain_v this_o wisdom_n even_o strong_a christian_n be_v apt_a to_o be_v astound_v at_o first_o as_o man_n be_v with_o a_o greatblow_n and_o can_v well_o stand_v or_o keep_v their_o ground_n now_o unto_o such_o either_o of_o these_o do_v the_o apostle_n in_o this_o language_n if_o any_o of_o you_o lack_v apply_v himself_o and_o therein_o speak_v to_o their_o very_a heart_n but_o especial_o to_o the_o first_o sort_n of_o weak_a christian_n and_o indeed_o speak_v their_o very_a fear_n and_o most_o inward_a thought_n and_o apprehension_n they_o have_v or_o may_v have_v of_o themselves_o and_o so_o utter_v their_o misgiving_n of_o heart_n in_o their_o own_o language_n oh_o i_o lack_v these_o thing_n say_v the_o soul_n if_o any_o of_o you_o lack_v say_v the_o apostle_n and_o it_o be_v no_o small_a comfort_n to_o such_o to_o hear_v a_o apostle_n from_o the_o immediate_a inspiration_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o suppose_v that_o very_o true_a and_o sincere_a christian_n may_v thus_o be_v lack_v and_o thus_o surprise_v thus_o as_o to_o the_o removal_n of_o their_o main_a discouragement_n which_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n propose_v ii_o the_o direction_n let_v he_o ask_v of_o god_n have_v thus_o speak_v their_o heart_n as_o to_o the_o fear_n &_o apprehension_n of_o themselves_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o fall_a short_a of_o this_o high_a duty_n of_o joy_n and_o patience_n etc._n etc._n he_o now_o direct_v they_o to_o the_o most_o proper_a and_o sovereign_a mean_n for_o the_o obtain_n of_o it_o of_o all_o other_o and_o that_o be_v faithful_a instant_a prayer_n let_v he_o ask_v of_o god_n etc._n etc._n and_o herein_o also_o he_o speak_v the_o heart_n of_o all_o true_a christian_n also_o even_o of_o the_o weak_a who_o refuge_n in_o all_o their_o want_n be_v to_o cry_v to_o god_n for_o a_o supply_n of_o what_o they_o lack_v especial_o when_o they_o feel_v or_o be_v apprehensive_a of_o their_o lack_n and_o want_v in_o any_o grace_n that_o shall_v help_v they_o in_o time_n of_o need_n and_o look_v what_o effectual_a supply_n of_o this_o grace_n in_o tentation_n all_o the_o apostle_n persuasion_n alone_o will_v not_o have_v effect_v that_o faith_n vent_v itself_o in_o constant_a and_o fervent_a prayer_n will_v bring_v in_o and_o obtain_v and_o their_o heart_n will_v in_o the_o end_n be_v raise_v and_o wrought_v up_o unto_o so_o as_o they_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o abound_v in_o this_o grace_n also_o weak_a faith_n when_o it_o can_v find_v in_o its_o heart_n to_o suffer_v or_o so_o much_o as_o to_o enter_v into_o trial_n can_v yet_o pray_v and_o so_o do_v beg_v with_o desire_n unutterable_a to_o have_v this_o grace_n to_o be_v able_a to_o suffer_v these_o trial_n in_o this_o joyful_a manner_n as_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v unto_o and_o the_o weak_a heart_n continue_v so_o to_o pray_v and_o importune_v god_n in_o the_o end_n this_o shall_v be_v give_v he_o as_o here_o he_o promise_v i_o shall_v not_o enlarge_v on_o this_o further_o for_o when_o a_o apostle_n shall_v single_a forth_o a_o mean_n and_o that_o one_o single_a one_o whereby_o to_o obtain_v any_o eminent_a grace_n one_o needs_o that_o mean_v aught_o to_o be_v with_o all_o diligence_n put_v into_o use_n and_o practice_n and_o so_o there_o need_v no_o more_o to_o urge_v it_o only_o observe_v how_o in_o this_o directive_n part_n he_o put_v they_o not_o upon_o pray_v chief_o to_o have_v tentation_n and_o trial_n avert_v or_o keep_v of_o nor_o to_o ask_v deliverance_n out_o of_o they_o though_o that_o be_v lawful_a and_o may_v be_v a_o word_n of_o these_o in_o this_o his_o exhortation_n but_o he_o draw_v the_o main_a and_o great_a intention_n of_o their_o soul_n unto_o pray_v for_o grace_n how_o to_o be_v patient_a and_o joyful_a etc._n etc._n this_o as_o to_o the_o direction_n iii_o his_o encouragement_n to_o pray_n §_o his_o encouragement_n that_o by_o seek_v a_o believer_n shall_v obtain_v be_v draw_v first_o from_o that_o gracious_a wont_a and_o disposition_n of_o god_n that_o give_v to_o all_o man_n liberal_o etc._n etc._n as_o be_v a_o god_n 1._o that_o give_v to_o all_o man_n and_o this_o also_o be_v to_o be_v limited_o understand_v of_o all_o those_o man_n who_o thus_o do_v have_v or_o shall_v apply_v themselves_o virba_n unto_o god_n by_o faithful_a and_o importunate_a prayer_n for_o he_o have_v say_v first_o let_v he_o ask_v of_o god_n and_o therefore_o god_n giving_n here_o must_v be_v suppose_v to_o be_v a_o give_v to_o he_o that_o ask_v again_o although_o it_o be_v say_v that_o faith_n work_v patience_n yet_o it_o be_v prayer_n that_o fetch_v and_o bring_v down_o the_o power_n from_o god_n into_o the_o heart_n that_o work_v both_o faith_n and_o patience_n and_o all_o prayer_n be_v the_o midwife_n by_o which_o faith_n the_o mother_n bring_v forth_o patience_n in_o the_o heart_n ii_o his_o gracious_a disposition_n in_o give_v be_v further_a set_v out_o 1._o that_o he_o give_v which_o the_o apostle_n use_v here_o therefore_o make_v that_o grace_n as_o thy_o plea_n to_o he_o in_o thy_o prayer_n for_o it_o or_o whatever_o else_o thou_o seek_v at_o his_o hand_n 2._o it_o signify_v large_o abundant_o liberal_o richly_n as_o the_o word_n be_v use_v in_o 2_o cor._n 8._o 2._o and_o so_o translate_v there_o you_o have_v both_o in_o that_o passage_n of_o david_n 2_o sam._n 7._o 21._o according_a to_o thy_o own_o heart_n there_o be_v free_o or_o simple_o haste_v thou_o do_v all_o these_o great_a thing_n there_o be_v liberal_o and_o upbraid_v not._n that_o be_v a_o second_o property_n or_o disposition_n in_o god_n &_o his_o give_v the_o sense_n where_o of_o be_v first_o that_o when_o he_o have_v give_v liberal_o never_o so_o often_o nor_o so_o much_o yet_o he_o implicit_a way_n of_o upbraid_v or_o insinuation_n of_o foreg_n on_o benefit_n sure_o verba_fw-la calvin_n and_o aestius_n from_o he_o have_v hit_v it_o who_o put_v this_o scope_n and_o drift_n upon_o this_o clause_n that_o no_o man_n shall_v be_v afraid_a or_o solicitor_n to_o come_v though_o never_o so_o often_o to_o this_o free_a and_o generous_a giver_n nor_o be_v discourage_v within_o himself_o that_o he_o shall_v need_v to_o come_v so_o often_o to_o he_o nor_o forbear_v to_o continue_v his_o incessant_a importunity_n though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o long_a a_o time_n ere_o he_o obtain_v and_o thus_o understand_v it_o be_v as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v god_n be_v so_o free_a so_o simple-hearted_n and_o liberal_a in_o give_v as_o the_o often_o you_o come_v the_o welcome_a especial_o when_o for_o grace_n yea_o he_o hereby_o invit_v we_o of_o his_o own_o free_a heart_n to_o come_v always_o to_o ask_v and_o pray_v continual_o and_o incessant_o as_o that_o parable_n luk._n 18._o 1._o make_v on_o set_v purpose_n show_v so_o then_o a_o frequent_a constant_a importunate_a continue_v in_o prayer_n to_o obtain_v be_v hereby_o exhort_v unto_o a_o second_o scope_n in_o his_o add_v this_o clause_n be_v that_o though_o we_o find_v that_o god_n do_v indeed_o upbraid_v impenitent_a man_n for_o their_o sin_n as_o christ_n those_o city_n yet_o he_o never_o do_v or_o ever_o for_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n and_o former_a ingratitude_n do_v above_o all_o thing_n deter_v man_n from_o come_v to_o god_n lest_o he_o shall_v remember_v their_o iniquity_n and_o upbraid_v they_o with_o they_o and_o it_o shall_v be_v give_v he_o he_o follow_v and_o confirm_v this_o hope_n of_o obtain_v with_o this_o sure_a and_o certain_a promise_n and_o it_o shall_v be_v give_v he_o for_o when_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n be_v make_v thorough_o apprehensive_a of_o their_o own_o want_n of_o a_o grace_n be_v carry_v forth_o to_o choose_v to_o seek_v for_o grace_n or_o such_o or_o such_o a_o gracious_a disposition_n and_o that_o before_o and_o above_o all_o deliverance_n out_o of_o the_o trial_n they_o be_v in_o as_o be_v afore_o observe_v the_o apostle_n have_v direct_v in_o this_o case_n god_n that_o be_v the_o god_n of_o all_o grace_n be_v the_o most_o ready_a giver_n of_o grace_n that_o he_o be_v of_o any_o thing_n else_o there_o be_v no_o request_n more_o please_v to_o he_o or_o that_o suit_n his_o divine_a and_o bless_a disposition_n so_o as_o this_o do_v of_o pray_v for_o grace_n as_o thus_o state_v for_o the_o bestow_n and_o give_v of_o grace_n thus_o pray_v for_o do_v tend_v above_o all_o thing_n else_o to_o the_o glorify_v of_o himself_o and_o it_o be_v the_o aim_v thereat_o that_o must_v and_o do_v carry_v out_o such_o a_o heart_n to_o make_v this_o to_o be_v the_o top_n and_o chief_a of_o its_o most_o earnest_a petition_n the_o god_n of_o grace_n be_v the_o most_o free_a of_o grace_n thus_o christ_n say_v if_o you_o then_o be_v evil_a know_v how_o to_o give_v good_a gift_n unto_o your_o child_n how_o much_o more_o shall_v your_o heavenly_a father_n give_v the_o holy_a spirit_n to_o they_o that_o ask_v he_o our_o apostle_n have_v also_o tell_v we_o that_o though_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v in_o we_o lust_v to_o envy_v that_o yet_o god_n give_v more_o grace_n that_o be_v a_o counterpoise_n of_o grace_n unto_o that_o lust_n unto_o all_o which_o exact_o agree_v with_o what_o be_v the_o matter_n exhort_v unto_o in_o this_o text_n he_o implore_v the_o glorious_a power_n of_o god_n in_o these_o word_n 1_o col._n 11._o that_o you_o may_v be_v strengthen_v with_o all_o may_v according_a to_o his_o glorious_a power_n unto_o all_o patience_z and_o long-suffering_a with_o joyfulness_n and_o to_o draw_v and_o fix_v your_o heart_n on_o this_o glorious_a power_n of_o god_n and_o point_v your_o prayer_n thereto_o be_v the_o thing_n which_o i_o mean_v &_o intend_v and_o indeed_o the_o consideration_n of_o this_o one_o thing_n will_v have_v a_o general_a influence_n into_o all_o those_o three_o head_n have_v be_v treat_v of_o in_o this_o last_o four_o section_n as_o first_o it_o may_v be_v no_o great_a wonder_n head_n if_o many_o of_o we_o have_v be_v so_o deficient_a and_o lack_v in_o this_o grace_n for_o it_o be_v not_o a_o ordinary_a power_n such_o as_o in_o ordinary_a walking_n holy_o do_v assist_v we_o but_o a_o
